so what do we look for in non-verbal communicative behaviors one of the most common things we kind of we hear on in referrals for autism assessment is does this childart doesn't make good eye contact query autism it's not just about eye contact part of it is about integration of verbal communication and non-verbal communication it's easy enough to put a message across to somebody using just words but as I say we add non-verbal communication to add color or emotional veilance or to give more information so if I'm excited about something do I show it on my face and is the intensity of my facial expression matched to whatever the experience or the concept was is there sometimes a complete mismatch do they often sort of smile and laugh while they're telling you a story that's actually pretty sad is there anything unusual about the way that they speak those are important parts of non-verbal communication that give you Clues to the details about the content of speech [Music]
