How to STOP SINNING over and over again - Dr. K. N. Jacob

oh what a joy to see you this morning please if you don't mind if you're able to tell one person please tell them for me you're looking good [Music] oh yeah last wednesday i taught a lesson which i thought was so important in our bible study i really bring our bible study lessons here this is my first time to bring a bible study lesson to church and i felt completely convinced i should teach this lesson to the entire church for your benefit and for the benefit of many who follow me online so this morning i want to teach on a subject very close to us how to stop sinning over and over again how do we overcome that scene that so easily entangles us that so easily besets us because sin is part and parcel of us as human beings that's what i want us to focus on this beautiful morning and i want to begin by asking you this i know you're looking at me now in church with a very holy eye but deep down your heart you know the scene that you wrestle with that you struggle with the most you know the scene that so easily besets you and targets you there is no single accident where god allowed you to be in church today god is in his manifold wisdom had pre-ordained you and you alone to listen to this message and i begin by asking you what sin do you struggle with the most is it anger rage is it bitterness do you lose temper do you like self-control is it lost are you addicted to porn you are very active in church we can see it on your face you're addicted to casual sex are you listening to me on facebook live and you receive bribe and tied bribe money corrupt money what is this that you struggle with the most now the apostle paul writes to the church at hebrews and talks about that scene he says hebrews 12 verse 1. therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses let us throw off everything that hinders and the scene that so easily integrals the scene that so easily besets us there are many sins on this planet but we all struggle with different sins we don't struggle with the same sin and paul is saying we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses this is hebrews chapter 12 verse 1. remember the bible was not written in chapters if you look at chapter 11 it is the hall of fame in the bible he talks about all the fathers of faith he's talking about them right here the cloud of witnesses he's saying we have champions in heaven who are cheering you on they went through words if you look at the close of hebrews 11 paul says some was laying asunder others were thrown in the den of lions others were crucified others went through fire you have no reason you have no excuse for your sin these people made it through this life and they are cheering you on they are your cheerleaders these generals of faith you have such a crowd of witnesses every time you sin you embarrass them because they have confidence in you they are shamed by our actions they are cheering us on to live a holy life as they did now john says something very interesting he heard from jesus a woman was caught in adultery jesus forgave her her sins but then jesus demurred it after now go and sin no more that's esv version niv says go now and live your life of sin john 8 11 what's the message god expects us to stop sinning as much as sin is powerful god expects us to live a holy life peter says be holy because he's holy god expects us to live a righteous life that's what he demanded of this woman and everyone he forgave their sins in fact any time jesus healed the sick he demanded them also to live a righteous life one day he told someone he healed go see no more lest something worse happens to you and he was referring to hell he was basically telling this guy i have healed you he was a you can walk your way to hell something worse can happen to you i want to answer four serious questions one what is the origin of sin two are all sins equal three is there an unforgivable scene and number four how do we stop sinning i'll take more time with question number four that's where the rubber meets the road that's the practical aspect of today's message what is the origin of sin question number one the bible teaches in ezekiel 28 14 to 17 the following concerning satan the bible says the following concerning satan you are anointed as a guardian cherub for so i ordained you you are on the holy mount of god you walked among the fiery stones you are blameless in your ways from the day you are created till wickedness was found in you your heart became proud on account of your beauty and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor so i threw you to the earth i made a spectacle of you before kings god creates perfection the enemy satan was created perfect he is the only angel the bible calls anointed you are anointed as a guardian cherub and that's god's power in him he is the most beautiful of all created beings and don't forget this god never took away his beauty when he left glory god never took away his power when he left glory jesus said i saw satan fall like lightening to the earth he came full of power the bible says we rest or not again his flesh and blood but again his powers again is rulers against his principalities in high places why because god never takes back his gifts the bible says the gifts of god are irrevocable they are without repentance when god gives you a gift he does not take it back you can speak in tongues preach the gospel heal the sick and go to hell because god does not take back our gifts so the enemy came on this planet with his gifts with the same power he had as an archangel he came powerful beautiful that's why the bible says he must create as an edge of light people can confuse him for a nature of light so what became of him one thing reduced at that of the ages to demons prayed pride he was in the mount of god means he was surrounding the throne of god until you are so proud dissatisfied with his position as the arch ager in charge of music musicians you need to be very careful you are always the people who are very vulnerable to praise this is what brought the enemy down the enemy was in charge of music there were three arch edges in heaven the other one is michael in charge of the military and then gabriel in charge of communication and in almost all churches today the most proud group are musicians i wish they were all here to listen this musicians are destroyed by pride this was exactly what the enemy had the enemy was the archangel in charge of worship and praise before god now then sin enters our world paul writes in romans 5 verse 12 therefore just as sin entered the world through one man and dead through sin and in this way there came to all people all people all people because all all all sinned so the enemy came and tempted eve who tempted her husband and now the bible says through adam because we are all children of adam we all sinned so we do two types of sin one is the original sin which you inherit and the other one is by practice you are a sinner by birth and by practice this is the reason wickedness continues to multiply this generation is more sinful than the previous generation why we have inherited sin we then pass on them to our children and then they invent their own seeds meaning if you have children and you leave them on this planet on their own they will still sin even neither are breasts fed by angels not by angels so long as there's a human child on their own without even seeing what their parents are doing they will still sin so we are seen as by nature and sinners by practice so in adam all sinned all sins and the bible repeats that again in romans 3 23 for all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of god how many have sinned all have sinned all have sinned so sin entered the world the enemy tempted adam and we all sinned are all scenes equal question number two i'll all sins equal yes and no the yes part is because the wages of sin is death romans 3 23 this is the year's part this scripture applies to all sin big and small whether in thought in word or indeed then suddenly the wages of sin is eternal separation with god unless you bring that sin to the feet of jesus on the cross no matter how small or petty that sin may look the wages of sin is death to that extent all sins are equal but if you look closely in scriptures the bible draws a clear line about sin the bible says some sins lead to death and some sins do not lead to death first john 5 16-17 if you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death you should pray and god will give them life i refer to those whose sin does not lead to death there is a sin that leads to death i am not saying that you should pray about that all wrongdoing is seen and there is a sin that does not lead to death let me repeat if you see any brother or sister this scripture was not written to sinners this scripture was written to people in church if you see any brother or sister i believe there are two interpretations of this scripture and one is a buildup of the other john grew in israel and he had seen people stoned to death there were some scenes if you did them you were reinstated back to the community you were redeemed there was a payment for it but some sins you were stoned immediately to death so one thought john may have referred to some of the scenes where people are punished by killing immediately but john also heard jesus explain about the eternal scene known as blasphemy so while in the old covenant people would be stoned to death in the new covenant jesus made it clear all sins are forgivable except blasphemy so i suggest maybe john here was referring to that sin of blasphemy that leads to death i'll explain it in just a moment now for you to understand the context look at the way sin was punished as they've paid restitution an awkward practitioner was cut off from israel one who committed adultery or a homosexual act or cast experience was put to death and you can see that in exodus chapter 22 and leviticus chapter 20. by the way interesting enough if anybody slept with somebody's wife or somebody's husband both of them was toned to death if an unmarried person a single man slept with a single lady they were forced to get married they were never killed if a thief stole and took something home they were forced to pay with interest if however they stole mangoes to eat and did not carry any they did not pay anything it was not a crime if he's told to eat if even if you got in somebody's refrigerator and ate all the bread nobody punished them they were allowed to do that so sins were dealt with differently and that's why john is saying some of these sins were leading to death now jesus said the same thing jesus the judge of the living and the dead the judge himself said sins on the judgment day will not be dealt with the same way he right he says in luke 12 47-48 jesus said some will be beaten with many blues and others with a few blues in matthew 23 13-36 jesus reserved his most fierce denunciations for the pride and unbelief of the religious leaders not the sexually immoral the drunks the corrupt the sexually immoral jesus restored them but jesus spoke cussing words to those who declared themselves righteous the teachers of the law the pharisees in this particular passage of scripture matthew 23 13 to 36 jesus speaks seven curses in modern language seven wars to the pharisees for their self righteous attitude jesus's greatest struggle were people who pretended to be righteous in the sight of man but they themselves knew they were sinners those are the only people jesus had a problem with jesus had no problem with quote unquote the ordinary sinner and this is a question to you as a church the most dangerous thing you can ever do is to attempt to bring your resume to god your credentials of righteousness and holiness and that's why jesus made it clear every single you pray in the lord's prayer he said forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us repentance was a daily prayer repentance is one of the four elements of prayer worship thanksgiving repentance and then your petitions for elements of prayer you must never make any prayer i'm not talking about giving thanks for food i'm talking about your personal private devotional time must never be complete without forgiveness in the old covenant before they could make any prayers before god they had to repent their sins and sacrifice for their sins in the new covenant jesus is our ultimate sacrifice but he expects us to repent our sins not to pretend to have our own righteousness we can only be clothed with the righteousness of christ question number three is there an unforgivable sin is there an unforgivable sin yes it is called blasphemy this is not my discovery jesus himself said it mark 3 28-30 jesus said truly i tell you people can be forgiven all their sins and every slaughter they utter but whoever blessed famous again is the holy spirit will never be forgiven they are guilty of an eternal sin he said this because they were saying he has an impure spirit context jesus had cast out demons from a man and then the pharisees the custodians of the law said he is doing this by the power of belzebab the prince of demons that's another word for satan and then jesus was was explaining to people when i speak it is the holy spirit to pick my words and bring them into action it is a spirit of god who brings order for example in the creation god spoke then the holy spirit did the job the holy spirit is the omniscient part of god he's the omnipotent part of god he is the omniscient the omnipotent the omnipresent part of god jesus was in one place at any given moment you could touch him you could feel him and the holy spirit was everywhere it is the holy spirit is all-powerful so jesus is saying when i say the word the holy spirit drives the spirits away when i speak the holy spirit does the action if you then say the spirit in me is an impure spirit then you may be guilty of an eternal sin now let me give you caution there is only one category of people who can blaspheme god these are people who are born again believers spirit filled who have been used by god directly in doing serious miracles they understand who is god for example the apostle peter the apostle peter just to give you an example god used him to raise a clip of god used him so much so that his shadow healed the sick god opened the prison doors for him open gates the angel escorted him to the city street this is a guy who knew that he knew that he knew that he knew god is at work now if such a guy denies god i'm saying if he did not do that don't misquote me if such a person denies the power of god he can never be forgiven and that's what paul explains in hebrews 6 4. paul says for it is impossible for those who have been once enlightened and have tested of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the holy ghost and have tasted the good word of god and the powers of the world to come and have fallen away to renew them again unto repentance seeing the crucified to themselves the son of god afresh and put him to an open shape so when you see a muslim deny christ say things against the holy spirit or a hindu or an agnostic or a navist that is not blasphemy they do not know what they are doing they say that to jesus on the cross they mocked him if you are the son of god come out of the cross jesus said father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing that is not blasphemy blasphemy is for those guys who truly understand god the bible says look at this verse and they have tasted the good word of god and the powers of the world to come these people like the apostle paul says he has been to that heaven god has taken him through a tour in heaven what he saw he's not even permitted to write or to speak about someone like the apostle john he had a glimpse of the new jerusalem it's details boiled in oil and he could not die someone like daniel how on earth can god rescue from lions that have been stirred for two weeks you get out of that pit and then you come and tell us there is no god that is the condition of blasphemy did they qualify that is what jesus is talking about here those who get into blasphemy will not be forgiven in this life or in the life to come any other sinner starts forgiven so long as they repent any other sin is forgivable john the same one who wrote about the sin that leads to death which is blasphemy makes it clear to the rest of us that christ forgives all sins so in first john 1 7 through 9 but if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of jesus his son purifies us from all sin how much sin or sin how much sin all sin a suicide see talk to me a suicide sin god forgives all sin so even if you fight someone has committed suicide don't buy those archaic and biblical doctrines that that person has gone to hell because he's murdered now she said this murder is self murder but god forgives all sin including self murder don't ever try to judge anybody believe if we claim to be without sin that's where the problem is verse number eight we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us if we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness all unrighteousness how much unrighteousness or unrighteousness if we claim we have not sinned we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us john is very clear the problem is the moment you claim to be sinless the problem god has is the moment you claim to be without sin that is making god a liar who said we have all sinned and before creating adam he made provision for your forgiveness the redemption plan the redemption package of jesus coming to redeem us from our sins was thought out before adam was created god has no afterthought god is never surprised by our sins he's never surprised by our salvation let me even surprise you god does not sit somewhere to write our names in the book of life when we get saved come for the bible studies for the details of that god does not after that he already knew you are going to receive him as lord and savior and that's why in revelation john says all those whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of this world other versions before the foundation of this world so the moment you claim you're not a sinner you're saying all that guarded on the cross the suffering of jesus was not needed i'm righteous so you're making him out to be a liar but if you confess so long as you confess god forgives you all sins and all unrighteousness let me therefore put it to you this morning only one sin will lead people to hell only one sin the unconfessed sin the unrepented see how then do we stop sinning that's the most important today i want to invite you to critical thinking not just to listen with your spirit but listen with your mind god says come now let us reason together isaiah 1 18. so open up your spirit open up your mind to what i'm going to teach you because this can set you free from sin forever i want to propose today for you to be free from sin it's a matter of the heart and the matter of the mind your heart must be regenerated by god and your mind must be renewed by your character heart is a god thing character is your responsibility neither of them will set you free it has to be both so the gateway the beginning the entrance is the heart so god renews you regenerates you redeems you and then you follow it up by character formation character building follow me closely the heart is a god thing that has nothing to do with you that's a god thing the might is your thing god will not do it for you character is not something given to us it is something we determine through our habits when i was teaching this last wednesday my son zigg brought a very deep preparation he said when they were asking me questions and giving their feedback this is what he said he said from his perspective there are two struggles here on one hand is a church that only emphasizes why people need to be changed by god the god part people need deliverance they need god and they ignore the part of the might on the other hand are these people the agnostics the aides the psychiatrists the psychologists the muslims the jews the world that emphasizes the mind working on your mind and mind meditations for you to have a good character now either extreme is a lie we have believers who teach the gospel and they make you believe only god will do it there is nothing required of you so they invite people for deliverance prayers every single sunday for people to be redeemed and delivered from soul ties from masturbation from pornography from homosexuality from adultery from there from bitterness from rage then on the and they do it every sunday you fight believers born again christian spirit filled sunday after sunday they are going for deliverance prayers i'm telling you this is still deception on the other hand are churches that never teach about the place of the holy spirit they only convince people all you need is to build your character it's about your habits it's about your mind it's about good attitudes inspirational talks read some good self help groups this notion suggests man can redeem himself from sin and it is also deception i want to show you from scriptures to back my claims i'll start with the heart now jesus said in john 8 34 very truly i tell you everyone who sins is a slave to sin sin is a bondage that's what jesus is saying jesus is not calling it an addiction he's calling it seed it's a bondage whatever scene you do you are a slave to that sin that sin is your master slaves don't work when they need to work they follow the instructions of their master if he says you work at four in the morning you start walking if you are slave to a certain sin that sin controls you tells you when to do it and you have no power over it you are helpless before that see you are at the body that's what jesus is saying jesus explained sin comes from the heart not the mind sin does not come from your flesh before you do what you do with your hands with your eyes it is coming from your heart your body organs are slaves captives of what is going on in your heart in matthew 15 18 to 19 jesus said but the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart and these defile them for out of the heart out of the heart out of the heart come evil thoughts murder adultery sexual immorality that false testimony slaughter these are all the fellow person but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them you know jesus used the occasion when the pharisees complained that the disciples are not washing their hands they are unclean and jesus tried to explain how you eat does not defile you you may get germs it's not good to eat with unwashed hands but it has nothing to do with spiritual purity all scenes murder adultery sexual morality death including stealing government money corruption because i know many people in africa who take corruption money and tithe that first testimony slaughter they all come from the heart those are the words of jesus so unless something happens in the heart of a man and you can never change your heart unless there is something god is doing in your heart you will never be free the good news is this jesus said in john 8 36 if the son sets you free you will be free free indeed no matter the bondage you're going through no matter the scene you're struggling with this is your day of a miracle all you need is to surrender to the lord jesus christ and he will set you free from that sea he will break the chains of sin the enemy does not like this kind of messages because he would want the church to remain in bondage the devil would prefer me to continue giving you inspirational talks but this is the message that will set you free to have a good fellowship with god and then claim your heart towards god only jesus can set free the hearts of men ezekiel 11 19 to 20 the bible says and i will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them i will take away their stony stubborn heart and give them a tender responsive heart so that they will obey my decrees and regulations then they will truly be my people and i will be their god what is the bible saying here unless god does his job your heart will be hostile and stubborn towards god you are not able to obey god's decrees and regulations unless god reclines your heart towards him god hardened the heart of phil to manifest his power god hardened the heart of nebuchadnezzar to manifest his power and as god softens your heart you cannot receive the good news god had in the jews paul writes a sensitive scripture so that salvation may come to the gentiles this is this is to let you know it is your responsibility to know this you are saved by grace in christ alone by grace and grace alone so only god can shorten your heart to be responsive towards god and to obey the law of god this can only happen by the grace of christ but then there is your part the mind romans 12 2 the bible says do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your might then you'll be able to test and approve what god's will is his good pleasing and perfect will now this is not the god part this is your part do not conform there are things this world is doing they have accepted them as part and parcel of the society every pastor every saint we have been told to accept the society as it is we are to accept it accept the society as it is that we can divorce and remarry as many times as we want let's accommodate everybody's sexual orientation i know you don't like it that's the pattern of this world the bible say do not conform you have a choice to make there are many churches that will teach you different things from what i'm teaching you and they're available for you but i'm telling you right now what is that tick or is that gamble is your soul your eternal soul what is that risk what is that take is your eternal life a day will come paul says when people will hire preachers to tell them what their itching ears want to hear let me just make it plain here i will never preach what your itching ears want to hear you have a choice to make i will preach the truth that will lead the few that god will bring my way to heaven i will call sin by its name and i know there is a narrow path at the narrow way broad is the way that leads to destruction jesus want if your interest is seven you can stay with me if your interest is a preacher who will preach what you want to hear you're in the wrong place here is the deal there is your responsibility and there is god's responsibility i want to demonstrate that and close the message i said the beginning of the journey is a change of your heart this is the god part then there is your part the character let me give you two contrasting stories for you to understand my message on one heart is two teenagers both of them 17 years of age joseph and daniel on the other hand are two grown-ups samsung and david follow me closely samson and david were anointed of god literally daniel and joseph were not anointed don drew stones at me the anointing in the old testament was literal real they used to use a horn samson was set apart as another right from birth set apart from for god they are only three nazarites in the bible samsung john the baptist and jesus they could never shave their hair set apart from birth anointed of god david was anointed as a teenager both some son and david anointed of god had character flow samsung slept with woman after woman after woman lack of character killed him david exposed himself to a naked woman and his body responded as expected trying to cover up is a daughterless deed he murdered her husband anointed people sinned you can preach on sunday anointed of god and sleep with different women murdered through saturday sleep with different men monday through saturday anointing does not protect your character am i communicating these two guys who are anointed of god don't try to cut out demons they are not demons and the people who are trying to cut out demons are playing games in church you cannot be spirit filled and be demon possessed you cannot be anointed of god and be demon possessed christ and the devil cannot during the same person no demon possessed person lives a normal life jesus cast out demons from people all those guys who are demon possessed they did different things some lived in the cemetery some were cutting themselves some were drawn by demons in fire others in water nobody who was demon possessed lived a normal life the woman who was caught in adultery in john 8 11 jesus did not cast out any demon from her he simply told her go and sin no more this is a character problem this is not a demonic thing this is a character problem go and sing no more you can be anointed and live insane am i communicating now daniel and joseph were ordinary church members they had not received the anointing oil they were men of character joseph the bible goes an extra mile to say he was very handsome it is interesting because that's not how we describe men we describe girls as pretty cute blah blah blah for men we don't say that we talk about their height or maybe their muscles their degrees we talk about their money we talk about their achievements we don't define masculine gender by how cute you are but these two characters the bible is careful to talk about their physical the bible says when daniel was compared with all the other kids in in babylon he was the most handsome joseph was so had some and he was a very very beautiful woman who wanted to sleep with him i know she was beautiful in them days in friendship people like potiphar were marrying the most beautiful girls in the land so definitely he had natural feelings for such a beautiful girl you know when people hear of potiphar's wife they think of an elderly grandmother this was a girl who was so cute in her 20s you see how you go paragasha i'm telling you the truth and you know what joseph decided i am not going to sin he resolved he didn't pray over it he didn't fast over it he did not cast away demons from potiphar's wife he simply left the scene his was an awkward situation he was in charge of the house every single bedroom so you can understand how it was easy for her to lure joseph to the bedroom he thought he's supposed to fix the light bulbs he thought there is something that needs to be fixed in the bedroom and he was in charge of everything if potter came in the bedroom and found it mercy joseph would have been in a bad corner but he still chose to be jailed accused falsely of rape because this woman knew if joseph says ahead of him she will be killed the men then were rudress they saw women as sex objects he could have killed the wife so she decided let me go ahead of him and create a lie fabricate a lie this boy was trying to rape me but let me tell you god leaded him from jail to the prime minister of his country and god lifted daniel from the den of lions to the prime minister of his country when you become a a man and a woman of character eventually god will vidicate you god will raise you up that's the truth so so i need you to see these two things so that we don't lose it there is a hard part done by god and there is the character pardon by who you so god has the transformation of the heart value must form the character and i have given you two examples there are many where you can be anointed but still seen and two people who are ordinary church members they are not decons they are not pastors but they chose to be men of character they had no duty in the synagogue but they chose to have character you see character is like a cable with reds every day you ever dread every day you ever dread the threads of character are too weak to be noticed until they're too strong to be broken once you form habits you don't have to keep them the habits keep you habits daily express our character you don't choose your character you choose your habits your habits choose your character your habits dictate your character your habits betray they reveal they express your character once you do something so long it becomes part of your subconscious system and that becomes your character i want to pray for you i don't know what the lord has said to you today i want to take a moment please and ask god what are you telling me this morning what are you saying to me this morning take a moment every time you listen to the word of god ask yourself what is the lord saying this morning [Music] lord may you renew all might may you incline our hearts towards you may you remove the hostility in our hearts [Music] forgive us our sins oh god cleanse us from all unrighteousness [Music] we are your children the work of your hands grant us victory of our sins grant us victory over sin the world and the devil in jesus name we pray amen if you're watching me on facebook live and you want to receive the lord you may see what he has installed for you in jesus name amen walk this week in victory walk this week in power walk this week as a child as a prince of the mosaic god i love you church and only the
