hi my name is John Gibson I'm with All American roofing and today we're going to talk about the proper installation technique off the roof shingles into the valley this is a critical part of the roof with a lot of water flows through so please stick around and learn more what we're gonna do here going is we're gonna shingle in the valley we have to we have to bring the shingles as far path like about minimum 12 inches past the center of the valley and we can't have any nails within 12 inches of the valley basically right and ears you'll see the situation's we'll have here is a problem that we've got like the end of the shingle comes in to the valley and we're not getting enough coverage there so we're gonna have to take that out a single tab in the core and then put a full shingle and after that that's really critical that we get push really tight down into the valley so we don't get any air in the valley doesn't kind of okay see this one here it's too close to them we can't nail this shingle in here anywhere so once again we'll put a single tab in but we might have to put what's called a double tab in here just turn the shingle upside down on the car [Applause] and then we're gonna the proper coverage in this one here then we can nail it and those that we put in or not within 12 inches keep the shingles away y'all's push your shingle down at the top and the bottom you can see for pushing it down at the top bottom only it's cuffing it's up it's you're pushing down both banks nails in then go [Applause] you lap the shingles up underneath these wants to get that proper distance going up and in this jingle we've got more we've got more water coming down this elevation so then this elevation so we're gonna it's called a half lace Valley so we take these shingles up up onto this elevation and then we bring these shingles down on top of this and then that actors our value right from the center of this valley we're gonna go about fifty mil over to the right hand side when we make this final cut so we overlap these and then we'll cut them back and then that will it gives it a bit of a trough for the water to come down [Applause] so when you're doing valleys right there's another one it's good timing you're always have a tendency of going a little bit crooked into the valley like it's hard to gauge you know I mean like you know I'm not using the gauge on the gun to gauge it so when we go into the value you'll drop or you'll go up it's like I'll gauge the gun to get it perfect but then I want to put this value 1 in III I'm just you know on the edge of the shingle I can gauge it here but I'm not going to good gauge there so we will strike every fourth line across horizontal lines that will catch that if you put the horizontal line and lift that shingle up it's important that you don't really wail on it you can rip in and see it's naanum since we know it's not important to gauge off these ones right when you pick what this is square with the line so then we're just gonna put this shingle on and align it with this here and then once that's kind of square there [Applause] now we're going to cut the value okay
