hi there my name is Vince from my mate Vince comm and in this video today we're gonna be setting up the PlayStation 4 pro now this video is intended for beginners haven't set up a console before or those of you that might not have set one up in the last 10 or 15 years so when you get your PlayStation 4 Pro it will come with a lot of the cables already in the box so I've just got them all out on the table here ready to go so first of all we need to have a look at the back of the console to see the different connections that we have so if you look here closely you can see that on this side here we've got the power cable so that's where the AC power supply is going to go next to that we've got an HDMI cable that's going to carry the picture and sound to the TV it will do both of them next to it we have an aux port normally used for a PlayStation camera we don't need one of these this is only optional if you're using certain games and also things like your PlayStation VR the virtual reality then you have to have a camera plugged into there but we won't be setting that up today next to it we have an optical connection an SPDIF this is where you would use a Toslink cable this is if you were to connect it up to a separate sound system so at the moment by using this one HDMI cable we're going to get picture and sound to the TV but some people like to connect it up to a surround sound system in which case then you can use this or on certain headsets gaming headsets they use an optical connection in which case then you would use it there next to that we have a USB ports we also have two USB ports to the front on the right hand side we were use the USB ports for various different things if you want to do an external hard drive for example but mainly you would be using it for charging up your Dual Shock 4 controllers that's these PlayStation 4 controllers here in the PlayStation Pro you get a version 2 DualShock 4 controller as off when the video was made next to that we have an Ethernet port this is where you would plug in your LAN cable if you wanted a wired connection rather than a Wi-Fi connection at the front is very simple this is where we put our disc in in this top section here we have an on and off button here and it's a physical clickable button and we've also got a button here to eject the disc so first of all let's plug in these cables let's start with a power cable like the power cables shaped like that and you can only plug it in one way so you can't get it in upside down or the wrong way you just have to make sure that it's fully pushed in so make sure it goes all the way in now we're going to plug in our HDMI cable that looks like this this is the one that gives us picture and sound to the TV again it can only go in one way so if you have a look at the shape there make sure it's the same shape as that so what happens is the wide bit is going on top so it's going to go in that way around and lastly you don't have to do this because it will work on Wi-Fi but you will have a much better connection if you just use an Ethernet cable this is where you were plugging your ethernet cable also known as a LAN cable your local area network cable now you don't get one of these in the pack but you can get them very cheaply from eBay and Amazon or you might already have them from when your service provider gave you the initial pack when you connect it to the Internet to begin with so basically that's what they look like here they've got eight gold pins on them and what this allows you to do is it allows you to have a wired connection rather than a wireless connection and a wired connection will always be much better than a wireless connection so it doesn't matter whether you get cat5e cat6 or k7 because even the cheapest cat5e will still allow a thousand megabits per second which is going to be more than your service providers currently giving you depending on the country you're watching this right if you're wondering where it plugs in to so one end goes in here and it's going to be go pins up with the tab at the bottom and it clicks into place like so and then the other end is going to go into the back of your root so we call it a Rooter another person to the world you will know it's a router this is a uk-based one here again it's what your service provider gives you and if you have a look at this back one we have four ports and it says here Ethernet Gigabit Ethernet so we will plug it into one of the yellow ones not the red one but one of the yellow ones and we just plug it in it doesn't matter which one it goes into it can go into any of them and then that will give us our wired connection if you're going on the Wi-Fi routes again you will need to have a look at the back of your router and you will need to see what your router is called so the SSID is the name of your router because you need to connect to your one and not your neighbor's one you will also need to make a note of the wireless key they make it handy here because you can bring this over to your equipment because this might be the other side of the house it might not be called a wireless key on yours it might be called a password or a passphrase but either way what will happen is you will click on your SSID and then when you will have to enter in your wireless key I highly recommend if possible to go for a wired one it's only if it's no way of getting a cable from here to here then go for Wi-Fi but if you can use wired so now we're going to turn it round and what we're going to do is we're going to charge up the PlayStation 4 controller this is also called a dual shock 4 and what we need is we need to get our USB cable that came with it and if you have a look here we've got one at the back so we can charge it from the back or we've got two at the front and it does have to go in the right way around so if you have a look it's like split into two can you see here there's white at the bottom and this empty at the top we want to put the white at the bottom so it's empty at the top that's the way we want to insert it and we're just going to plug it in there like so and then the other end is called a micro USB and that's going to go into the top of the controller here and again it will only go in one way yeah so you can see that the top side is slightly bigger than the bottom side so we need to put it in in the way it fit so the top side is going to go here like so and then what will happen is that will now charge our controller up when we've plugged in our PlayStation 4 to the AC power outlet on the wall now first time we use this controller we will have to plug it in to sync it up to the PlayStation 4 probe via this cable here also if you were to bring this to a friend's house you're then gonna have to plug this into his PlayStation to get it to sync up to this PlayStation so not only does this lead charge it it also allows it to sync up remember it's wireless so it needs to sync up or pair with the console that you're playing it with so the first time you use it you will have to plug it in here like so now when there it doesn't matter which USB port you use when you plug it in for the first time and it's synced up that will forever be synced up with this one now till we sync it up with something else so for example your mobile phone or your friends console now we then need to plug in the other side of the HDMI into the TV now depending on the TV you plug it into you may have to plug it into a special port so if we have a look at the back of this TV here you can see that I've got my HDMI ports here two three and number one now this is a Samsung TV but it is one of the cheaper Samsung TVs this is basically a 4k TV but so it's only allowed HD are on HDMI one it will not allow it in HDMI to HDMI three so remember with the PlayStation 4 Pro and for that matter a new Playstation 4 they allow HDR which is high dynamic range which basically means it's more colorful there's more colors for you to look at so the whites are whiter and the blacks are blacker so if you were to look up at the sky you would see more definition on the clouds so it's well worth enabling the HDR if your TV allows it so in this instance it will only allow it on HDMI 1 so I have to make sure that I've plugged my HDMI lead from my PlayStation into this port here it will not allow HDR in any other port although it will allow 4k on all the ports not HDR if you've got a more expensive TV then it will probably having them enabled on all the ports or it may not so you need to check that and you also need to go into the settings of the TV as well to make sure that it is enabled so let me show you that now so we're going to turn our TV on and what we're going to do is that you just pop it on mute for the time being what we're going to do is we're going to go to settings this one here remember it will vary on your TV and I'm going to go across to picture and on this Samsung TV I need to go down to expert settings now one here they don't call it a HDR they call it HDMI UHD color and if I go on to enter on that one there at the moment I've got it on because I also use this for my Xbox one s but by default that is set off so if it's on/off it's not going to enable HDR you have to set that one so on and just to prove that it doesn't work on HDMI two and three on this TV you on others it will if I was to go there it doesn't give me the option on HDMI to to turn it on or HDMI three but it does on number one so double check that yours is definitely turned on on HDMI UHD color if you've got a samsung tv if you got LG Panasonic or Sony or one of the other brands you need to double check what they're called in HDR so I'm going to go to close so now I know that that's set up for ports one so now we just need to turn on the PlayStation 4 pro so I'm going to go over to the wall socket and I'm going to turn on at the wood and now we need to turn on the PlayStation 4 Pro itself so if you have a very close look here you can see that there's a little on and off symbol here button here I'm just going to tap and now you can see a nice blue lights come on and that's going to start to boot itself up now on your TV is not going to auto switch to it so we now have to put it on to the correct source so on this TV I need to go to source and I need to go to I called it games console you'll need to go to HDMI one or whatever you port you've plugged it into so I'm gonna go to games console now and now it's gonna bring up the PlayStation menu this is another TV in the house here and on this one is called input so it's often known as source or input but it's the button that you need to press to enable you to select through the different inputs on the TV right and now I've got my PlayStation here and you can see at the moment is charging so when this is charging it will have a nice amber light going on and off indicating is charging when you set up your PlayStation 4 Pro when you press the PlayStation button this will become player 1 and then you will see now that it will go to blue first time you set it up I have done a very long video on this where I've got the real setup of it you will have to go through every single step and you will have to set up PSN account so your PlayStation Network account but basically once that set up that's how you do all the cables and the Ethernet cable and stuff so for example if now you just want to double check that you have got HDR and 4k if you go up using the left analog stick or the d-pad and if you go across to where you have this tool box here this like Workmen's bag then if you go to X this is settings go to X and then if we were to go down and down to where it says sound and screen and press X let's have a look at our video output settings at the moment is set to automatic which is good so let's press X and it will bring up all the lists here that my TV can handle so as you can see the bottom to here is 4k you've also got 1080p so depending on the TV these two might be blanked out if yours is a 1080p if yours is a 720p all of these are going to be blanked out apart from 720 but if you leave it on automatic then you know that the PlayStation 4 is going to give you the best possible picture that you can get so let's press circle to get out of that if you have a look HDR it's also set to automatic and let's go down to video output information to see what I've actually got now if you have a look up here it says current video output signal I've got twenty eight forty times 21 sixty at sixty Hertz so the twenty eight forty times twenty 160 is the 4k resolution and then sixty Hertz is the same as 60 frames per second and a frame per second is basically on a moving image is made up of frame so for example when my hands moving down here now it will be one frame two frames three frames four frames five frames etc and it's doing sixty of them per second so it's going to look really smooth and if you have a look down the bottom it says HD are supported but basically we've got the best one here because we've got HDR supported and we've got 4k resolution at 60 frames per second 60 Hertz we're just going to press the PlayStation button to get back home now once your controller is charged up you can unplug this and it will stay in sync with the playstation 4 pro so now we can just use it as a normal wireless controller now you do get a little headset in with the original pack that you get but it's only a mono headset so it's not the best the microphone is okay but you can your friends won't sound great through this so if you're going to be using a lot of the online features playing with friends and stuff then it would be best to get yourself a decent headset to plug into there or you can get a wireless one that will plug into the optical connection at the back or a USB version as well but if you have a look here now on the one that you get be careful when you plug this in because it has got a microphone built into it and if you have a look here it will say mic on and off so at the moment that's on and if I was to do it there it's off so if we put it on now everybody will be able to hear what you're saying so if you're on some online chat theme you know playing on the game multiplayer and then somebody comes in the room and you're having a conversation with them turn it off otherwise everybody else in that party is going to hear what you're saying so let me just show you this working because the turn off for a second the PlayStation does have voice control so if I was to turn it on and say playstation all commands you can see now that's brought up the commands down the bottom start settings start settings home screen and you can see you can work your way around using the voice commands so right now I'm gonna unplug that the reason that has to keep shouting at it is because this isn't attached to me this needs to be closer to your mouth now when it comes to playing a game all we have to do is take the disc out and we need to put it in label side up and it will take it in for us so when we're handing our disks just be very gentle with them either handle them from the middle or the edge here and then all we need to do is we need to put it in this top section here and the PlayStation will bring it in for us so I'm just gonna offer it up and now it's gonna take us in there the first time you play a game it's gonna take about 15 to 20 minutes or sometimes more before it fully loads up because it's got to get all the data off the disk onto your hard but then after that it's just a case of inserting a disk and it would just work straight away so when I press X now it's gonna start loading up that game now let's say now that it's fully loaded up and we're finished with that game what we have to do is hit the PlayStation button and it's going to bring us back to this menu here and then if we hit the option buttons when we're over the game so right now you can see that we're over the game we'll just press the options button and it brings up this here now we can press closed application and it would just close the game down and it will keep the disk in the PlayStation so you can play it again but if you want to play a different game just go down to remove disk and then press X and then what will happen is in about 15 or 20 seconds the PlayStation will eject this and there we go we can just take it out again nice and gently so it's always labeled side up mirror side down now we also have an eject button here so if we were to have gone to close application instead and the disk was going to stay in there we could have just pressed the eject button and then it would have ejected the disk for us and when we come to turn off our PlayStation we can either put it in rest mode or turn it off completely if you put it in rest mode then depending on the settings you've done you will still be able to charge up your controller and you will still be able to get updates and stuff when it's in rest mode but let's say now if you wanted to move the PlayStation to a different room or bring it to a different house then you would need to close it down completely also if you're ever having problems with it close it down completely and then boot it up again and hopefully that will often solve a lot of problems so to turn it off again we just need to hold down the PlayStation button and it's going to bring up the quick menu here and then if I was to go down to the power I can go over and I can go into rest mode where it will still do the functions like charging this or I can go to turn off ps4 and that will turn it off completely and that will allow me to unplug it from the actual wall itself so if you're moving this to a different room this is what you would want to be doing so let's turn off the ps4 and what will happen is now is say say do not unplug the AC power cord when the power indicator on the ps4 is lit or flashing so if you have a look now if you look closer you can see that it's still flashing there so right now we can't turn it off in the but fully goes out so they're still going there we go and now it's completely turned off so we would be safe now to unplug it from the AC outlet and we would be safe to move it to a new location also when you unplug it completely it's not using up any electricity when you leave it in standby mode in rest mode it's still using a small amount of electricity but when it's off like this you can unplug it's not using any electricity now when it comes to the games you've got to be careful because on some games you do have to have PlayStation Plus to be able to play them so if you look at overwatch here it says in a small writing down the bottom internet connection and PlayStation Plus require to play so what PlayStation Plus is it's a subscription service that you have to pay to PlayStation to allow you to play online with other players worldwide so when you play against people in other countries for example now it costs between 40 and 50 pound normally front and your subscription but with that you will normally get a couple of games free each month and if you've got a PlayStation Vita you'll get a couple of games free for that as well so a lot of people think it really is worth it basically one of the main fun about gaming consoles is the online playability so it is actually worth the extra expense to play it but just bear in mind if you're buying this for a present for someone then if you were to get this game then they're not going to be able to play it until you pay that additional subscription and also you need to know that you've got enough space so on that PlayStation Pro I've got one terabyte of space which is the same as a thousand gigabytes of space and if I was to play this game here it's gonna take up 43 gigabytes Ratchet and Clank is gonna take up 27 gigabytes and overwatch is going to take up 20 minimum of 20 gigabytes so you can see how if you've got a lot of games you will soon eat through that so roughly speaking you're gonna get over 20 games of this size on that one terabyte but if you go over it's not a problem because you can just buy yourself an external hard drive for example a one to terabyte one and then you'll be able to load loads more games up also parental controls if you're setting this up for younger children then you might want to limit what games they can play so for example if you have a look here if you were to set up the players ages three to six they can only play games that are labeled as three this is in Europe and if you were to label it up as 12 to 15 they can only play games that are labeled as twelve and you can clearly see on the game's here to play horizon zero dawn it says sixteen seven on Ratchet and Clank on overwatch is 12 so if you were to set this one for 12 to 15 euros then you wouldn't be able to play horizon zero dawn so there we go I hope you enjoyed that video please give it a thumbs up if you liked it and please subscribe for more how-to videos take care bye now
