How To Setup LuckPerms on Your Minecraft Server (Add Ranks & Permissions to A Minecraft Server)

hello everyone and welcome back to the breakdown today is something you all been waiting for this is our video on how to set up a lock perm is my recommended permissions plugins permissions plugin we use all my network server plate-up breakdown craft comm the one I recommend you use on your network or non network minecraft server if you are looking to use permissions on your server which you probably should be a dranks do all that stuff luck perms is what I recommend to do it with and that's what we're gonna be doing in this video we're gonna be adding ranks we're gonna be adding permissions I'm gonna go through every single step of setting up luck pumps from looking at the config to getting your rank set up this is an in-depth video we're going over at all but first a message below is actually this page which is the luck perms download page I'm gonna download it for the most recent version because we are gonna be doing this in 1.13 you're doing this for any of the versions listed here you can just download the most recent version they actually keep blurbs backward-compatible which is pretty cool but if we go ahead and keep the file down here we can minimize our browser and then on our desktop here I have our server open so running in this on paper but it doesn't matter as long as you a bucket or spigot this will work paper being a fork of spigot it will work on paper as well I'm just going to drop this into our plugins folder then obviously we're gonna need to run the server I will see you guys once we've ran the server stopped it and we generated our look perms config here in the plugins folder there we go elec firms is and now here we see we have the alarms folder on our plugins folder there go and stop our server and if we open up elect perms here we'll be able to see the config now if we go ahead and edit that config with notepad plus plus which you can find at the third link down below it's a free text editor that I use for all of Maya basically minecraft development here you will find the most documented convict I've ever seen there is so much documentation here he goes over everything I'm not gonna go over everything here because you won't need most of this stuff I try to keep my toilet Orioles pretty a claw bowl - what you're actually going to be using in the real world so let's go ahead and cover a few things first and foremost if you want to set this up on a Bungie server what you'll do is you'll come in here and change the server name from global do whatever you want to call your server right you can call it for example soar Bible right like that if you want to make it a survival server I'm actually going to do that just because let's say I wanted to expand my network in the future this isn't set up as a bungee cord network right now but in the future if you change that it'll be easy because global permissions will go to bungee cord whereas server specific permissions will go to survival so that's something you need to keep in mind so I'm actually gonna leave that change here now if we go on down through here we need to talk about storage method now again this is all very well documented so it kind of explains everything here but basically if you're just going to run this on one server you can run it right here off of this h2 method this is gonna kind of keep everything locally and all of that now if you're going to run this on a bungee cord network you're going to want to use MySQL for your server so what you would do you would come in here and change this to my SQL exactly like that then you would come down here and enter your MySQL database so your address your your database all that stuff you would enter this all down here and you can find this on your minecraft dos most minecraft house come with some sort of database you're sitting on your screen right now apex is database and how they handle all of that it's very simple just copy the stuff there and paste it here however for this we are going to use the default source method of h2 because I'm not setting this up on ax minus QL database by the way even if you're not running as a network server you might still want to use a MySQL database if you ever plan to expand to a network server because you just hook right into that database want you to expand to that but if we work our way down through here you can see all the different stuff that is kind of in this plugin and in this set up now one thing I do want to mention here if you are on bungee cord there's one more thing you need to change and that is this right here where it talks about bungee cording if you have this running on a bungee cord for oxy you should change this option to false either on your back ends or your peroxy to avoid messages basically showing up twice as entries now I'll recommend going ahead in get all out on your bungee cord server and turning it to false on are your servers inside the network here right basically your survival server your lobby server since it's the boss leave it true and your peroxy so your bungee cord servers now I'm gonna go ahead and leave this true here because we're not hosting this on bungee cord but that is just a note if you are going to be hosting on a bungee cord of something you need to do the rest of this you can just read down through it again it is very well documented every single documentation here is at least two sentences on it every single thing so yeah basically all that is outlined there but that basically what you need to know up front and on the front end to be able to get this to work with a bungee cord network or with just a local server so now that we've set up the config here we can go ahead and save it now that we've set that up let's go ahead and jump on into game so we want to go ahead and start our server and then I'm also going to join in to its a minecraft basically run minecraft and do all that stuff so give me one quick second to get minecraft open and I'll meet you guys actually in this server alright so minecraft is open as you can see the server saying done over here let me go ahead and launch on in wait what is that then it's the best network server in the multiverse played off break down crapcom 1.12 dot - Skyblock 1.13 doll oneplus survival come join us you'll love it if you're looking for an awesome server to play on that's the one for you but what if you're setting up permissions on your own server I get it I get it let's go ahead and direct connect to my ipv4 address and it'll launch us right onto this server over here now once you're in game you want to keep your console up because there's a command you need to run in the console excuse me while I look off screen for a second occasionally I will be looking over here and the reason I'll be looking over here is I have all my commands outlined already that way I get them whatever is incorrect for you right out the gate so what we want to do is go ahead and take this command and type it out it is LP this is in our console by the way and the reason we're doing this in the console is because we're not opting game or anything so LP and then we can do space user the us type your user name whatever it is in my case it is Nick king and then we want to do permission and then we want to do set luck perms right and then dot and then an asterisk right for all and that's on your screen right now you can see it and you can obviously see what that is so we go ahead and hit there and we'll go ahead and boom in-game there it is a Nick King a permission set to true on all the servers we're good we're good to get it set like that on the survival server it's good it's setup we can activate and run all up firms commands from the game now that also shows us that luck firms is in fact installed and working so now that we've done that we can go ahead and start creating groups right we can go ahead and start adding in different ranks to our server it's gonna minimize this column big in the background so what what ranks do we want well let's say you want a VIP we'll do VIP plus and then we'll do an owner rank that would just have everything right eventually once we add in all the part so let's go ahead and do that so we'll slash LP space create group right there does create group and then you just want to give your group a name so we want to do VIP and then we'll do a VIP plus and then we'll do an owner group okay and all we're doing is running this command over and over and over again LP create group space whatever group you want right so we're doing VIP VIP plus and an owner group so now we have all three of these groups created right here so those are good to go you can create as many groups as you want on our server we have like 10 or 11 different groups set up but this is just for the basis of this video free will be plenty if you like most servers you probably your ranks have a pretty cool like prefix or suffix or something like that so how would you add those well that's gonna be done with a lot permis as well and so let's go ahead and do slash LP space group and then we need to define what group we want we can add it to default which is all the players by default players are joining into your server in the default group you can add it to owner VIP VIP plus we'll start with VIP and then we want to do space meta add prefix for a prefix and then we want to set a priority for that prefix so if you want it to be for example one then you instead of this one and what that means it's basically say somebody gets two or three prefixes then with the higher priority is what will show up for this we'll just go ahead and add a 1 to it and then we'll add 2 3 4 so on and so forth and then we want to type the prefix but we want to put it around basically quotations right like that you see that so quotation mark and then we'll do this and then bucket color codes work in here as well so we can do and 6 and then we'll do a VIP do this again and then we will close out the quotations now if we hit inner boom there we go VIP priority has been set on the context of global meaning on all servers right on every single server out there this will have this rank will have the VIP tag assuming gets on your network whether it's in survival whether it is whatever right now let's go ahead and do that for the rest of these real quick so again we just need to come in here and change this to a group of VIP plus and then everything else could say the same except our weight needs to be changed to two because it's a higher of someone's in VIP and the IV plus we want them to have the VIP plus prefix and then we'll go ahead and change this right here from VIP to and to VIP plus and then we'll come back over here and I accidentally hit the up arrow so we need to change these again a VIP plus then hit inner boom there we go a VIP plus now has one and then of course we will do owner real quick and for the owner we'll just do like and see I believe is red and then we'll change that to owner change the weight to three change the group to owner and there you go now the owner prefix has been set for the owner rank pretty simple stuff suffix is the same thing except we'll do slash LP space group ending the group name in this case we'll go ahead and give the owner a suffix of like cool or something I don't know sure so we'll go ahead and give the owner group the meta of add suffix and then we'll go ahead and change whatever priority we wanted this up next if they have like three suffixes which one do we want well we'll do number three because they're the highest one is gonna be the owner one and then we'll go ahead and enter in what we want that suffix to be so quotation and then I'll go ahead and do that we'll make this one I don't know blue is kind of cool and I think blue is and be I'm gonna be I might be wrong on that go ahead and do that and then we'll do I'm cool because why not and then we'll go ahead and close the quotations and hit enter and there we go now that suffix has been added to the owner group pretty simple stuff you can also do this for individual users and say you wanted to give an individual user you just change LP LP group - LP user and then you would give the nicking for example would be your username everything else would say the same hit enter and now if I type test in game I'm going to have the Uncle suffix except in Central's isn't installed you'll need to insist chat installed for those suffixes to show up I'm gonna go ahead install that real quick jump cut there we go now server's restarted if we rejoin here we will have the cool suffix on our on our account so we top test in chat there we go because we have essentials installed we do in fact have that suffix so pretty cool stuff there we're gonna be configuring essentials and I think next week's episode so with that you'll be able to format that better in chat but for now we can see that it's working so now that prefixes and suffixes are added I'm gonna make your hypo whole I have a lot easier when working with luck perms it's a simple thing to slash LP space editor and what this is going to do is launch an online editor that if we click on it click yes we'll be able to add it anything and everything all that stuff you were doing in-game we can do from here currently the only thing you can't do is add groups but the groups we have are already here is we can see mean of owner we have VIP we have VIP plus and then we even have users that are on our server currently who have permissions and this is MIT cane the account we were just on you can see that I gave it the Elector all permission on the global server gave it default on the global server give it a suffix uncool on the global server now let's say I wanted to I was on a network server and I only wanted to give somebody the ability to fly in survival let's say we're actually going to give all of our VIP plus people the ability to fly in survival it's gonna be handled with essentials right dot fly as you can see there it is so essentials dot fly and then we'll also go ahead and come over here to the server and change that to survival hit enter and because we named our server survival remember that on the front end we'll be able to fly in our server here now we wanted to give people the ability to follow all servers we would change this to global right or leave it blank and it would go global and that means all all the servers can they can be your network it would work in this case though we'll just go ahead and make it survival no it works on our server and then if we were to add this to another bungee cord network or add this to part of a bungee cord network it would work out of the gate but nevertheless the IP Plus can fly and let's go ahead and make this in Herot from other groups we need to simply come in here and add a group dot and then whatever group we wanted to inherit from in this case we'll do VIP right go ahead and hit enter and I want to do that across all servers so we're good to leave that as global go ahead and work our way down here we'll change this from group VIP to group default meaning anything that goes into default players is that all players are gonna have VIP players will also have and that's gonna work forward right because VIP has default and VIP plus has VIP VIP plus also gets default does that make sense all the permissions even if they're from an older group pass through to all of the ranks right pretty simple stuff now for owner we want to come in here and do group dot VIP plus right so VIP plus and that's going to allow the owner to had all of the stuff that VIP plus has now I'm going to the purpose of this not give the owner VIP plus because I want to show you that if I'm owner I can't fly and then if I'm VIP plus I can so now what do we do here we've got this how do we add this back in the game we'll just hit the Save button in the top right it will pop up this handy-dandy link and you can come over into game or right here paste that link and boom there you go essentials flies added group VIP to fall added that's good stuff now if I do a slash fly it won't work the reason it won't work I don't have permissions I'm still a default player if we do test here I don't have a prefix of a rank so how do we go ahead and add ranks to people well it's pretty simple just do /lp right this time we're working with a user so healthy user and then we're going to do space again and we're gonna do the player name in this case it is Nick King and then we want to do a parent right like so and then we can either set a parent rank which is going to remove all their other ranks and add a new rank most of the time this is what you'll use or you can do add which is going to add a new rank and they'll keep their old rank let's say you have a player who is a diamond drink of your server you want to also want to give them helper perms in that case you would do add instead of it set here that means they would keep all their diamond rank stuff right while then also getting all the helper commands right someone could be a member of two groups and get permissions from both of those groups but this we're go ahead and do set and then I'm going to do a VIP now that go ahead and hit enter here I shouldn't have fly right because the V I pee if we come back over to here our VIP group right here does not have fly right so I'm not gonna be able to fly if I'm in this group buddy's last flight doesn't work but if I type in chat you can see that I do have the VIP prefix there now we go ahead and this time do set VIP plus I will get fly so now finally if I do slash fly in chat fly mode is enabled and I can fly up pretty simple stuff now all plugins are going to have different permissions we're just using essentials for this one because it's easier right that's the best thing now the great thing about this online editor is you can change everything want to change your prefix let's see I'm the VIP plus currently let's say we don't like this being the color to whatever that is I've honestly forgotten let's say we want to go in here and change it to color 7 right we can do that I don't even know if that is one but let's make it blue I like blue we'll do blue so there we go change that to b4 blue there and then let's say we want to go ahead change these to white on the ends right like so so do hand F and then move that color code to our only VIP plus is blue and the things around it are white we can go ahead and also add a space at the end if we want to put a space before the name hits go ahead and hit enter there and now if we come back over here and save this click that link copy it into game right like so boom there we go now if I type in chat with test we can see that the prefix is actually gone why is it gone well interesting thing you need to make sure every time you change something in game right I added myself - VIP plus and when I did that it didn't change over here this isn't in real time I'm still group default over here so if I now change myself to a VIP plus over here and then save right go back into game I will keep my rank right like so and now if I type test we can see that that rink has changed those are white and there's a space you can change suffixes in the same way so if we come over here this is on my account not on the owner rank or anything we can change the I'm cool suffix from being blue to let's say black and zero I believe is what that is put a space at the beginning of that Suffolk's go ahead and save it right like so paste it into game and just like that now we've got the on cool suffix in black so pretty cool stuff there that is now set up you've kind of got your idea of how suffixes work how the online editor works let's go ahead and talk about giving groups weight allowing you to then be able to upgrade to them and things like that so first and foremost here let's go ahead and talk about adding weight to groups now in that scenario earlier I talked about someone who had like a diamond to rank on a server but also was becoming a helper if you wanted them to have the helper tag and not the diamond tag on their prefix what you would do is actually come in here and add a weight to those ranks so let's go ahead and do that so VIP let's go ahead and make that a medal way so to do this you would just type in meta dot W e IG HC dot and then whatever you want the higher the basically the higher the weight the one that it's going to take so what would be the lowest it would have and then obviously I'm just gonna copy that come back over to VIP plus we're gonna change that to two right and then we're gonna go over to owner and change that to three meaning if someone has all three of those ranks the owner prefix and suffix will show up because those are the higher weights so pretty simple stuff there that's how that works and that's how rank weights work is there something I wanted to mention here if you want to give some any multiple ranks like in that helper and then also a rank to play your scenario you don't want to take permits away from them by making them helper but you want to show the helper badge and that's how you would do that so basically that's the ins and out of luck perms from here on you just add in your commands and whatever you want those to be let's say well I'll go ahead and add essentials dot game mode or actually we'll just give all essential permissions by using the Asterix there to the owner and we only want to do that though on the server survival which is our server and game we named at the beginning of this and then let's say for a VIP though we'll go ahead and give them the ability to do essentials set home right I think that's is it essentials pom I see that's what's really cool if you I would just recommend pulling this up but if you don't have this it's going to tell you a lot of the stuff that's going on here tells you a lot of the permissions that are available not all of them though so what is two essentials game-mode dot all basically give this one creative and then with that that'll actually filter up into VIP Plus who has fly and then that will filter on up into owner but it won't because we didn't give owner all the permissions here however we did give them all the essentials permission so I have those so I'll go ahead and change that real quick to let's say what should i what should I make this essentials nickname so I think we do essentials not Nick that might work it might not work I don't have the essentials perms right up in front of me they will be linked in the description by the way along with all of our permits documentation so let's go ahead and copy this come back over in the game paste this in we'll see some stuff change here so we can see all sorts of metal weights added we've also added essentials game mode all allowing me now in VIP plus because I'm here from VIP to do slash GMC for example go ahead and turn that off and if I actually set my rank back again with /lp user username parent set to VIP now I'll be able to change my game mode right I can do /g EMS but what I can't do is slash fly because I am NOT in their correct rank I need a higher rank to do that if I go ahead and set myself as an owner alright so we go ahead and change this to owner will be able to do test we can see that I have the owner prefix but what I won't be able to do is slash fly because I don't hear that or cited GMC because I don't inherit that I should however be able to do slash Nick and then change my nickname to Knicks games the proper nickname there we go now that's changed and boom now my display name is Knicks games yeah that all works it kind of yeah I move faster there at the end but you can slow me down if you need to and using you know the cogwheel and change my speed to like 2.5 but basically this is luck perms everything you'll do from this point on you won't use commands for unless you're adding someone to a rank let's say through by crafts which are going to be doing a tutorial on later that's when you would use a command otherwise or adding a new group or something like that otherwise to add permissions use /lp editor come in here and edit them added them on the line and then save them that is the easiest thing in what I love about luck perms over all of the other permissions plugins let's say for whatever reason you need to set something to boss right you want to set something to where people don't have it right you can come in here and enter that so now if the owner inherited the permission it wouldn't have it because it's set to false right so you can do that by changing that right there so pretty simple stuff there there's one more thing I want to go over and that is tracks and what tracks are is basically the ability to promote or demote someone from a rank on your server so on our server it's pretty simple it goes VIP VIP plus and then owner so let's go ahead and do /lp create track and then we can name this track whatever I'll just name it upgrades write something simple like that so that track is now successfully created then we want to do slash LP space track and then we can go ahead and use the upgrades track that we just created you want to put the name of your track right there so upgrades in our case and then we go ahead and append and then we're gonna add the first group and our track which is going to be a VIP right like so boom there we go now we want to go ahead and append another track will do a owner on this one I guess so do owner there but we actually forgot in the middle there and as you can see it says he goes a VIP and then it goes to owner but VIP plus actually goes in the middle what do we did we have a redo at all no we don't it's pretty simple do /lp and in this case we're going to do track and then upgrade but we're going to change one thing here and this time we're gonna do insert then we're gonna do our ranked VIP plus and then whatever slot you want to insert it in in our case it's going to be two because it's not one two is currently owner we want to make VIP plus number to make owner number three that's what this is going to do hit enter there and now you can see the progression is VIP - VIP + - owner now let's say you want to go ahead and promote me from a my owner right now I actually have to demote me first yeah cuz they're you can't promote me first so let's go ahead and / LP and then we're going to do user and then my username and then we're going to demote and then we're going to do the upgrades track so it's LP space user space username and then space demote and then whatever track you want to upgrade or demote them on so upgrade so now as you can see I've been downgraded if I do test I have the VIP plus suffix we can do that again it'll demote me to VIP if I do test there we go now we want to provoke somebody it is /lt space user space username which is me Nick King whatever your user name is I'm gonna put that there this time we're going to do promote right like so and then the name of the track which is upgrades hit enter and now we are VIP plus there it is and we can run that command again and we will be an owner boom super simple stuff and that is permissions I've kind of given you everything you'll need to know you might have to watch this video a few times and I'm sorry if I went pretty fast in some areas it's just a lot of information to cover and I wanted to be the best luck programs tutorial out there I think with this video we've accomplished that I've went over tons of stuff be sure to just pull up your permissions list let's say you wanted essentials permissions right here is the essentials tab right I had to go to here and download this earlier if you come in here you'll be able to see where their permissions are at by going to the wiki right down here as you can see and click on their wiki takes us off to their essential X wiki and then you can see the updated permissions list right there click on that and here are all of the essentials permissions I'll recommend adding in permissions for every single permission here whether it's - owner whether it's to a user whatever or your server our server permissions right now or huge I mean massive currently there are hundreds upon hundreds of permissions because we have multiple servers on a bungee cord network each server having specific permissions I wouldn't recommend ever using global permissions unless you are 100% sure something like a prefix or a suffix or a inheritance from a earlier rank right other than that I would never use global permits because it's better to use a per server and to keep things exact where you know that if I there's a permit issue you're just looking on one server not your own entire network it can be a mess that's what you always see me over here making the
