hi y'all my name is Kimberly Cahill and today with the help of Katelyn Jernigan we're going to teach you how to tack up your horse western style make sure to thoroughly brush your horse to remove any debris that may cause pinching or irritation make sure to always brush your horse in the direction of the hair growth to prevent discomfort next use your brush to remove any foreign materials from the saddle pad or liner that may scratch your horse now you want to place the style pad on the back place the saddle pad above the wither and slide it down so that the front of the pad is slightly above the wither a good indication that the saddle pad is facing the front is that the wear leathers are facing towards the horse's head and not the tail before you grab your saddle make sure that the cinch and breast collar are secured on the saddle and not hanging place the saddle on your horse gently don't slam it down on the back now is a perfect time to check both sides to make sure that the saddle pad underneath didn't shift let down your cinch on the offside the saddle should be on the wither of the horse so that the rigging is in line with your horses heart girth now let down your let go run your let it go through the Cinch and back up to the rigging and repeat this process for extra security place the Cinch pan through the let it go at attention that is just tight enough to keep your saddle and saddle pad in place this will give your horse a chance to get comfortable with the tightness of the cinch now tie off the excess latigo at the reeking like you would a necktie reach across your horse's neck and bring the breast color around your horses chest to secure it to the d-ring on your saddle if your saddle doesn't have D rings you can run it through the rigging attach the center strap of the breast collar to your cinch if you're using a weather strap now you would bring it over the horse's neck and secure it in place place the reins around the neck and take the halter off buckle the halter around the neck so that your horse is not able to walk away while you're putting on the head stall and with one hand slide the head stall up and with the other hand place the bit in the mail make sure that the brow band is even and adjusted just below the ears buckle the throat latch so that it is not too taut these are the basic steps and tacking up your horse don't forget to retighten your cinch before you get on don't forget to Like and subscribe if you found this video helpful you can find more information about our products by going to Jeffers equine comm or by calling 1-800 Jeffers we hope to see you in our next video
