At last, a non-dickhead, non-anti-socialite motorcycle vlogger (am I using the correct terms?). Informative and entertaining.

I haven't actually ridden in the dry for a good few months now. Anyone know a good video for riding in the dry? One of the sad realities of living in the north of ireland

Phase 1: Curse the weather app. Phase 2: Suck it up, do what this guy says. Phase 3: hide dyed-black palms/hands from triggering an HR racism investigation.

Always weird when you recognize where the rider is riding and everything is so familiar :p

edit: you rode right by where I work!

Rode five hours on back roads, from dc to philly for a two day stay. It rained the entire time. This is the stuff i've had to learn as a dc commuter.

huh is that the most epic riding condition you've ever seen or what I am a hero test test test test test test is is the perfect motive organ level yeah I think it is oh it's raining and I'm just kidding of course I knew it was raining that's why I have a camera on my helmet and a script in my pocket that says how to motorcycle in the rain rain rain give me more rain otherwise this video is gonna look super lame-o but it sounds good a couple hacks when it comes to rain gear number one if you're gonna buy rain gear make it high vis it's low flat light every time it's raining people can't see you so if you're riding around in black waterproof swell that's just a wasted opportunity you should look a lot like that guy highlighter yellow burning everyone's retinas off I'm sure Steve is gonna have a wicked graphic for that wear them rain clouds that when you can pick a dry line I mean the cars their tires are moving water out of the way so I might as well go into telling the tire line right the alternative which is a bad one is to ride right in the middle I mean it's like yeah I have escape routes but along the only wet patch and this is the part where the cars drop oil and crap onto the road and especially when it just starts raining and that's the part that's gonna be most wet I do actually ride in the rain a lot contrary to what this situation would indicate stuff from the Explorer city or Explorer series Rika Beck City I'm talking about I'll shake the can am we got absolutely hammered with rain the KTM shoot we actually shot in the rain for a significant portion of it we sure don't do that often leave the vents on your helmet open seems counterintuitive because you're gonna close up everything else because uh but uh with the helmet events you kind of want to leave them open to prevent fog you're not gonna get that much moisture in there anyways though I don't worry about it gear hack number four if you forget your nice waterproof gloves go find a diesel pump where are you diesel well this one doesn't have it alright I'll try another one yo this is a downpour Ryan f9 very intense Rider look in Montreal they make legs just for motorcycles and they randomly get wider and smaller this is mmm this is line painting at its finest let's see the funny thing here is that actually brings me to a point is that I should avoid painted lines when I'm riding in the rain because they're very slippery it's not actually the pavement that gets that slick when it's wet on decent tires and on decent payment you have almost as much grip in the rain as you do in the dry and of course I'll caveat that by saying you know even if you have the best rain tires like ER floors like Road Jacko ones and videos videos link below on those stars even if you have the best tires hey if you ride them to 40,000 kilometers like the forum hero that brags about his mileage and it looks like a car tire then you're not gonna have that much gripping you're gonna aquaplane all over the place the speaking of aquaplaning that's why i should avoid puddles you know standing water more of a hazard for aquaplaning also in montreal it may cover up a hole or a pothole that actually doesn't have a bottom we got hits that go to the molten centre of the earth here the city and you don't want to fall in one of those look at how much Rainier it looks on the south shore this looks beautiful when I exit this tunnel it's gonna be a hurricane you're all gonna think wow this guy's super intense and my vlogs gonna be back on ready ok not quite but it is raining that's at least something so what was I talking about um flat tire isn't aquaplaning and yes yes yes so the additions to the pavement are what's dangerous the payment itself you actually have a lot of grip in the rain it's the oil on the pavement and the painted line and the wooden bridge and the railroad tracks and the manhole covers oh my goodness there's no signs to tell you where manhole covers are gonna be and if they come up in a corner and they're usually lower or higher than the the pavement surface and so you're dropping onto something that has the lower coefficient of friction so you're sliding on that it's a bad scene manhole covers whoo those are sketchy in the rain ah this is nautical weave and of course when I'm riding in the rain I want to leave a longer following distance ahead of me and make sure the guy behind me isn't riding my ass because I don't want to end up going from riding this bike to riding the hood of that car or the hood of the car behind me so lots of following distance everyone's braking braking is stoppage distance power whatever is shortened in the rain you just want to do everything slower in the rain you want to turn more slowly sort of put that pressure on the wheels gradually when I go to break I want to kind of break at first just to load the suspension and load the tire and get those sipes clearing water out of my path and then I really ramp on the Liebherr pressure and get that like stopping you just do everything gradually and you'll find that the tires actually have a lot more grip than you expect no that's it that's another all right pro tip if you find yourself in a panic situation you're steering a corner in the rain and you're not sure you're gonna make it or you're coming up into something and you're gonna hit it whatever trusts your tires there are a lot of accidents that happen in the rain just because someone thinks that they can't lean lower or else the low side or because they think that they can't brake harder or else they'll talk to the front and crash and instead they just end up hitting something or running right of the road and crashing anyways it is better to just trust your tires because there's always more grip in there on wet surfaces then do you think there is oh I've never been so happy to ride in the rain honestly this is this is a good I do actually love riding in the rain oh I mean I actually mean that it's it's not a cool it's fresh it's a cool experience so long as you're prepared for it and by that I just mean gear right you know you got the rain pants over your boots you have your jacket over your rain pants and I have my gloves over my jacket I have a pin lock visor in here also for the anti fogging and it is a yellow one I always get a yellow pin lock buzzer begin because it helps you see more in flat light conditions that's always good and if you're not a fortune 500 company owner then probably you're not buying gore-tex in which case especially if you're on a lovely scrambler like this you just stand up every once in a while I'm not gonna clear the water off your pants get that water off there because even cheap water proofs will pretty much stay waterproof so long as you don't let the water pool and soak through somewhere if I set off without my waterproof gloves all I need do is come to a gas station and I need to hunt the diesel pump and they usually have these plastic gloves that are actually waterproof you can put them on over your regular ones and I don't think this one hasn't always keep a couple of plastic bags handy for your valuables oh [ __ ] I didn't say that I said here yeah ok if you get caught out in the rain before you put your rain pants on get a plastic bag put it over your boot and you can slide your three rain pants smoother than Barry White in a slip and slide which is actually what I said in a life hack video that features that clip I'll link it again down below but anyway there's your hack when you're turning corners in the rain I always kind of lean my body a little bit far off the Blake like this like this and like this the reason for that is not because I'm a new variety who's trying to look cool because this actually doesn't make you look cool what it does do is it makes it so that the bike doesn't have to lean that far over and less likely to lose the tire so that's why I lean more when I ride in the rain remember anything today it's cuz I'm tired if he knows that my voice is a little bit flat today it's cuz I was filming an epic shoot with this bike like and it was this morning that it ended sometime I'm not running on much sleep out here the review is killer though I'll link it down below if you want to see it hey you can cut that next bit of me riding when I go through this other important reason to keep a following distance is pretty decent is the spray and this guy's kicking up a ton of stuff and for my visibility through my visor I should I should be a decent way back I could also put rain axe on here and as my life hack video will show you can also take a potato cut it in half put it on your visor it's really starchy and it helps the rain to be dried off of there have to follow you anymore good thing I already recorded the part that I wanted to these vlogs are so much less impromptu than you think they are it's all planned it's all planned 49 is a phony ooh that's another thing to mention when you ride in the rain it's tempting to tuck up you know to to dig your elbows in and just stiffen up and punch down an earner like our [ __ ] table and do that to sort of stay warm but you should resist that temptation because when you're tight on the motorcycle you're dangerous on the motorcycle you need to sit upright stay loose keep your regular riding position and yeah you're gonna get cold faster and that means you're gonna have to take a break sooner which you should do anyway take lots of breaks when you get cold get cold and go get a coffee it's fine don't try to cheat your way into more and longer mileage by just tucking up and and going on rigid on the bike it's a bad trade-off yep dressed off the audio or the camera first you like to do sort of an end shot [Music] third time's the charm if you leave home without your gloves and go to the gas station there's gonna be a diesel pump when you go to the diesel pump it was there that you can use you put them over your gloves and they will help to keep you dry ooh all right Steve I'm gonna trust your very lifelike photoshop skills make it look like there's a bunch of rubber gloves there perfect
