[Music] hey everybody I'm Dominic amaroso from xme DIY in this video I'm going to show you how to patch one of these very common uh holes in the wall common because uh kind of like the same size of a a fist maybe or I don't know maybe a high door anyway the great people of stra flex sent me a patch called a Perma patch I'm like What's this thing so I looked at it like wow check this out it's very strong it's all perforated meaning nice bonding for the sheet rock and check this out on the one side of it it has it's all outlined for different uh for your your uh your Outlets your uh receptacle boxes uh and even your um ceiling uh lights all right well now that we have a hole what we want to do is clean it up we have all the stuff that's loose on here just want to clean it up you want to get anything that's loose and obviously sticking out now you can get a knife clean up little Edge there all right just make it look all nice and clean all right our hole is all cleaned up and we have our patch now being that our patch is bigger than our hole we want to do we want to apply enough joint compound that is going to go behind the patch but enough of it to cover the patch itself so just simply just get your uh joint compound and put it on and you'll see that we yeah actually we need more all right our all our joint compound is applied which is slightly larger than our patch and just place our patch over our our hole push it in with your fingers a little bit and now just hold like on one side and start pushing the mud now check this out as I push this patch in you see all these holes look how the joint compound really comes through what that's doing is bonding all this really nice boom okay all right look we got our first coat on our patch is embedded it's drying up which is really cool me I really like this thing cuz it's nice and thick and strong so where your hole is once all these these holes are filled in and it dries in the other side it's going to make it all nice and strong so it's not going to be like a soft spot that just looks good after it dries you can go ahead and put your second coat on or even kind of like I almost got like a second coat on that one right away now a trick for doing a patch first I mean this mud's a little thick sometimes you might want to thin it up a little bit just just like whip it around a little bit makes things smoother and creamier when you do a patch and it's kind of hard to go across like One Direction and all that I kind of like I give it a a little bit of a circle like that if you see if you hold the knife and like where the where the paint is you know the on damaged area you know hold more pressure on that where you're actually just like tilting the knife up a little bit so when you come around it makes a nice clean Edge on this so it does it's not as not raise as much and just make things a lot easier for you makes the inside look a little poopy but you can cut that down with a bigger knife again this is a small knife which makes it more difficult you get a a bigger knife even to make it that much bigger and then after this dries and actually you start going wider with this one little tip though when you're doing it being that you're going to have a painted wall and not you know Raw cheat Rock like this sand it down a little bit little little you know so sandpaper clean it make sure there's no grease and dust on that cuz you want that joint compound to stick hey check this out here's an outlet or a switch and the sheetrock installed wasn't all all done all that really uh you know little little off if you will I mean kind of like a crappy job so what do you do replace the whole sheetrock or if it's an older house you're doing little reming whatever it is normally want to start filling in the holes here putting the mud around maybe a little bit more than I have here on my knife like that and you want you would get regular uh joint compound tape and start putting the tape around and blah blah blah like that which can be a big pain in the butt check this out from straight Flex another Perma patch look at that it's already all preut out so if uh you're not a good sheet rocker and you got a whole house full of like screw-ups like that awesome check it out baboom a patch is created which I like again just like the other one hold it down so you don't end up sending it over to your neighbor's house embed the mud clean it let it dry a little bit more mud [Music] there I mean check that out bam like almost done you got to put more mud on it of course you know cuz you don't want everybody to know that you screwed up when you're putting your sheet rocking okay for this video got two coats on you can see this one how it's becoming wider and our nice Outlet our little patch here we have two coats on it now what I would want to do is go even with a third coat on it more like a thin skim coat let that dry they would give it a light sanding the great thing about these patches opposed to like the uh the metal ones that you would find in the store they have like when you start sanding them cuz like a little bit raised or thicker get like a waffle effect on it and all of a sudden you may not even see it right away But like after you paint you're looking at the wall you're like who the hell threw a waffle at the wall all right so these definitely I like them they're strong they're easy look take them right out of the package boom you don't got to go looking for all kinds of weird looking stuff I like them they're pretty cool the outlet ones look at this I mean like I showed you you got a whole pack of pack of them here they're all pre-cut you don't got to like look around for anything crazy and you even have little ones say for your your door this particular one well we needed a bigger patch cuz like I said it's like uh the size of a fist I don't know how it happened but uh being that the person that maybe put that hole there is now into anger management class we don't have to worry about fixing any more holes like that anyway where do you get them homed depot.com or the store itself uh straight flex.com you can go to my website I have a link to where you can get them they are real reason able price and I tell you make things a lot easier anyway I'm Dominic that's a hole that's a fist hole hope you learned how to fix it see you next
