you clicked on the video It's called how to play Warhammer for free so I'm going to show you how to play Warhammer for free simple as that I'm also going to show you some ways to have actual things to play the game with for free or super cheap too now content creators are supposed to leave the best advice to the end of the video to keep you watching the video for a longer engagement time but honestly I've been doing this for 6 years and I can't be bothered my absolute number one top tip is just find someone in your local area who is into Warhammer and ask if they can show you the ropes now if you think you don't know anyone who's into Warhammer you're wrong you do you just don't know they're actually into it I cannot stress how useful this is and how fantastic it is for not just learning the game if you want to play but for also getting out of the house being social and making awesome friends I don't know a single person that's into Warhammer that wouldn't jump at the chance to teach someone who was Warhammer curious how to play most semi-serious players have more than one Army so they're all geared up to help you out post on whatever social media you use that you're interested in learning Warhammer and watch everyone come out of the woodwork failing that visit your local gaming Club introduce yourself find their Facebook page or Instagram account and get involved okay that's the big one out the way now let's get on with the rest of the advice hello by the way my name is Guy sorry I haven't said that yet you're watching midwinter Minis and maybe you should consider subscribing if you want to play the game for free good news the core rules for Warhammer 40K and age of Sigma the two main Warhammer games are free to download from the official Warhammer website and we'll leave links to that in the video description I mean there's going to be links to everything we mentioned here in the video description so you know what to do if you're like me though I tend to find it quite hard to learn a totally new skill just by reading about it I much prefer to watch things and actually get hands on now not wanting to toot my own horn but we recently put out an hourong incredibly easy to follow beginner Focus tutorial on how to play your first few games of Warhammer 40K which I think is blood brilliant it took me over 200 hours to make so I would say that but you should check it out as a first Port of Call if you're curious about how the game works now if you're the kind of person that prefers fantasy over sci-fi unfortunately we are not experts on age of Sigma here at midwinter minis but if you're interested in that and not 40K then I'd recommend checking out this tutorial video by tabletop skirmish games which has a very similar format and pacing to our 40K video both of the main games have a dedicated app which have condensed rules and an Army Builder built in they are both a bit feature limited unless you subscribe to Warhammer Plus or own the Codex or battle tone from the army that you want the rules for but they'll both be really helpful as a quick reference if you're just starting out now if you're in the awkward situation of wanting to play an army that has its content paywalled by the app or codex you can reference those rules and stats on a cheeky little website called wahapedia it's clear concise and really nicely formatted and considering it's an unofficial resource I'm not going to lie it kind of puts the official stuff to shame now in the tabletop game of Warhammer measuring distances is important so one thing you will have to Fork out a little bit of money for is a measuring tape I mean if you're an adult chances are you probably already have one but if you're a child try asking an adult if you can borrow one now if your adult doesn't have one consult a more useful adult dice are also an essential part of all Warhammer games but if you don't own any no worries there are tons of dice roller apps and websites that you can use many of them specially designed with Warhammer in mind letting you do easy rerolls ignoring certain results stuff like that again all the links in the video description now some of you might want to give the Warhammer tabletop games a test run virtually and you can do exactly that using tabletop simulator a tabletop simulator which has hugely positive reviews on Steam a massive user base and about a bazillion fan-made Warhammer themed resources the game itself isn't free but it's really cheap for such a useful tool and you can start right now if you want no need to build or paint anything cool cool but what if you want to play the game with actual physical models models cost money right well yes and no there are loads of ways to get models for cheap or free so what I'm going to do now in this part of the video is list all of your options from cheap to buy to you probably already have the stuff in your house all the way through to actually free in fact two of the totally free options on this list are actually endorsed by games Workshop which is totally crazy but true now let's talk about terrain first you've got so so many options here I'm actually excited for you if your budget is limited but not non-existent you can have tons of fun building your own using really basic craft stuff and usefully shaped junk that you've probably hoarded over the years I've made quite a few videos about this from foam board buildings packing foamed fortified walls and serial box Shanty towns it sounds kind of lame to say out loud but the only limit really is your imagination and I suppose the time you want to put into it you can use regular craft glue and craft paint for most of these projects so while you might need to outlay a tenor or so to get some basic materials they'll last you ages and you'll be able to make scrap terrain for pennies a piece if you want stuff that looks a bit more regimented and less janky you can find some awesome templates online for not only vintage style Warhammer terrain pieces but also modern takes on both fantasy and sci-fi stuff I think this is the perfect opportunity to tell you about some of my favorite terrain crafting YouTube channels wock Armory has hundreds of videos about making wargaming terrain on a budget from simple first project stuff all the way through to pretty complex impressive but still incredibly cheap projects Blackmagic craft is also amazing for this showing you all sorts of tips and tricks on how to turn junk and very affordable materials into cool terrain with beginner friendly techniques Eric's hobby work shop is a masterclass in what you can do with Pham board and a little bit of imagination and Hidden Gem for me is crooked staff terrain who specialize in making amazing terrain pieces that are basically just printed texture stuck to foam board and stuck together into legit some of the coolest beginner friendly tabletop terrain I've ever seen go follow them all right now please now if you fancy getting some inspiration for your own terrain projects the subreddit po Hammer is absolutely worth your time look at some of these amazing builds okay but that's not exactly free is it you know free like the title of the video guy no but honestly if your first few games of Warhammer don't look like this you're doing something wrong this is a right of passage you need your chaos space r to be defending a pile of toddler's bedtime books your rampaging Orcs will die before they surrender their industrial Silo made of tinned food and these necrons are sure there's an ancient artifact hidden within the Jenga Block Fortress use whatever you have to hand and have a blast doing it okay you've got your terrain sorted now you're going to need some models the most obvious way to to get models for cheap is by looking for bargains on places like eBay Facebook Marketplace thrift stores car boot sales yard sales bring and buys stuff like that the Holy Grail of Warhammer bargain hunting is finding parents who are selling all of their grown-up kids toys and have no idea how much it's worth that's how I bought about £1,000 worth of vintage Warhammer for 50 Quid this method is pretty slow and it takes a lot of work on your part but it can be super rewarding when you find great Bargains also be on the lookout for stuff that's misspelled Warhammer or warhammers are a classic but you might want to make something else do the hard work for you so check out fatfingers.com which will search for misspellings of your Search terms on eBay and that way you might find some crazy Bargains that no one else has spotted because honestly no one's searching for Warhammer or Warhammer the thing is if you just want a few basic models to play your first few games you do not even need Games Workshop models the only people who care about using official models are official tournaments or players who you probably don't want to be playing your first few games against anyway substitute other game pieces or small toys for the models you want to use in your intro games you can even make your own models this is my warlord Titan the largest most expensive Warhammer model ever made but this is my scratch built orc gargant made from boxes broken toys dud wires and random junk that was just going to go into the recycling otherwise all in all this model cost me about £2,500 but this model cost no more than 50 with a bit of trial and error time and Imagination you can make some seriously cool memorable hobby things the YouTube channel miniature hobbyist is great at this and one of my favorite videos of his was when he made a great unclean one from scratch out of random junk and spro what an absolute Legend back in the day even white dwarf used to tell you how to scratch build your own models out of card the iconic Bane blade tank even started out like this if you're an origami fan or just like the idea of making some awesome stuff out of paper and card there's a huge papercraft community in Warhammer and some people have made absolutely Sensational paper and card models and vehicles that have to be seen to be believed there's tons of cool templates and resources out there if you want to discover more speaking of paper stuff have you noticed that despite being not very user friendly the Warhammer website is full of pictures of all the models choose what you want to play screenshot paste get it roughly the right size is print them out cut them out and stick them to some card or a bottle cap and boom you've got a super cheap Army to play your first few games and before you roll your eyes at me even Games Workshop did this in the second edition 40K starter set with the cardboard orc dreadn I mean even cutout models is kind of The Artsy version you could just cut out your own little card counters and write whatever model you want to use them as simple draw a little picture or a portrait if you're feeling really f fancy and again before you start going oh this is so far removed from the spirit of Warhammer what's even the point this is literally a suggestion from the first ever Warhammer 40,000 rule book right at the back of Rogue Trader it has counters for Space Marines and space AWS for you to photocopy cut out and use in your first intro games to help you get your head around the rules so that was obviously one of the only officially sanctioned methods of getting models for free but the other one is well just go into your local Warhammer shop and say hello I'm thinking about getting into Warhammer can you help me with my first model and they'll literally give you a model to build and paint for free it's just the one mind but it's still a pretty cool thing they do I know a lot of independent local stores will also do similar things often running paint and take sessions for newcomers to the Hobby stuff like that yet another reason to support your local stores old J Bears isn't going to give you a free model that's for sure also Warhammer stores give away a free mini of the month with any other purchase so always be sure to ask ask if you're just dropping in for paint stocks do run out though so check back regularly and again if you're wanting to get into the painting side of the hobby don't be afraid to ask people you know who you suspect might be secret tabletop nerds if they can show you the ropes of painting minis annoyingly mini paints themselves tend to be quite expensive because they're usually really high quality High pigment stuff but starter sets are often the best value rather than individual paints so that about covers it I suppose I hope you've enjoyed this video and for me to you I just want to honestly say welcome to the Hobby and I wish you the absolute best of luck on your Warhammer Journey if you've got any cool cheap or free Warhammer ideas please drop them in the comments and we simply couldn't make these videos without the awesome team of supporters we
