before we move on to the series and learn how to play gloomhaven you have to first get gloomhaven ready to play so if you don't already have a storage solution for your components in place i'll show you the relatively inexpensive solution i found over on boardgamegeek that makes setting up your scenarios a breeze keeps your table neat and organized during your games and most importantly gets everything to fit back in the box [Music] so if you're like me the first time you unboxed gloomhaven you couldn't wait to start playing through your first scenario then you start punching out the 18 punch boards and realize that there's no place to put this stuff in the box so that's when i started my search online to see what was out there for any solution to be considered for me it had to move pieces neatly from the box to the table it had to be easy to find any components and it all had to fit in the box so for around 90 u.s broken token makes a really nice storage solution that meets all of my criteria there's also several custom storage solutions you can buy in etsy anywhere from 100 120 u.s but i didn't quite want to spend that much so i kept looking and the one i ended up using was a solution posted by ryan h over on board game geek which uses plano storage boxes and as long as you have a few basics lying around the house like plastic bags and ink for your printer this solution will cost between thirty to forty dollars u.s and i included links to everything you'll need down in the description so you'll need three plano 3600 stowaway boxes and you can typically find these in the fishing section of your local sporting goods store or of course at many retailers online you can get a four pack of these online for about twenty dollars us and you even have one extra which i'm sure you can find a use for somewhere you'll also need one plano 3601 box and this one's a bit thinner than the 3600 by six tenths of an inch or 1.5 centimeters this box is a bit more expensive but you'll see it's well worth it when you find that this is the key to fitting everything back in your original gloomhaven box for tools and supplies grab a good scissors a hobby knife a hacksaw blade a few pieces of cardstock ink for your printer scotch tape and a few sandwich size storage bags if you want to use the same sizes of storage bags i used for mine i also put a link to these in the description once you have your tools together you'll need to print the legend inserts that tell you which pieces go where in your boxes there are some good ones that were created by ersos and brent bolden over on board game geek and i put a link to these files down in the description so there's three of these you'll need to print out for the 3600 boxes one for the map overlay tiles one for the monster standees and one for the monster cards and the rest of the standees the one for the 3601 box is for all of your status tokens so just to make sure these legends are a bit more durable i recommend printing these out on cardstock but you can just use regular paper as well the files you'll see are optimized for a4 paper so if you're printing in regions of the world where this size is readily available you're all set but if you're printing in the us where eight and a half by 11 inch paper is a standard then you're going to have to reduce a scale a bit to fit the whole image on one page you'll see i didn't do this on the first couple i printed but then i figured it out also when you print i recommend printing one side at a time and printing on the other side so that the legend appears correctly whether your lid or the box is open or closed printers are all different so i recommend running a test on your printer first using a cheap piece of paper and printing in black and white to figure out what works best after your legend inserts are printed cut out each box insert and if you printed these to the correct sizes then you'll also need to cut out these small sections for the hinges and then on some of the 3600 boxes you'll have to make this little notch for this little plastic piece that sticks up on the lid so i didn't do anything too fancy to attach these to the inside of the lid i just used four or six rolled up pieces of scotch tape so it's like double-sided stickiness and then put those on the cardstock and then i press them firmly in place once you have the legend inserts attach the inside of the lid of the boxes then it's time to insert your dividers the legend will show you where all the dividers get placed so i used the scissors to separate all the dividers that come in each one of these boxes and after struggling with a few of these i realize that you have to completely trim the edges of these dividers smooth and they go in a lot easier if you notice that on this map overlay tile legend it shows no divider in this certain section and that's because we need a little more space to put in the largest map overlay tiles what you have to do is remove the divider in this area by using your hacksaw blade and hobby knife start by sawing each side of the divider and make sure your saw blade is angled so it doesn't start sawing through the bottom or the side of the box [Music] after that slightly bend the section you want to remove and use your hobby knife to start scoring the base of this piece just remember of course to use extreme caution when doing this and keep your fingers away from the blade after you score this a few times you'll cut deeper and deeper and feel it give more and more keep doing this until you can snap it off clean out the plastic shavings from the space and you're ready to fill these up so let's do it [Music] next let's get our box organized so everything fits back in it first remove everything from the box even the insert on the very bottom and you can get rid of the foam and the insert as you won't need these anymore or you can repurpose it for some other game that you have next put in all four of the plano boxes then put in all of the character class boxes after that put in your character miniatures i bagged all the remaining attack modifier cards and put these next to the miniature boxes bag your monster stat sleeves and put these to the side of the miniature boxes i put these along with random item cards and the boss that was too big to fit in the box here beg your road cards and monster stat cards and stick these in the space next to the miniature boxes make two bags of the item cards and place these on top of your miniature boxes then the same goes for the player reference cards random dungeon cards and city cards place the hit point in experience dials on top of these and then the four small map tiles take your sealed envelopes and a couple other small loose items and you can tuck these by the plano boxes then tuck the narrow map tiles in the same area now it's time to put in the rest of the map tiles and i put mine in like this and it seemed to work fairly well [Music] top everything off with a scenario guide rule book map board and large sticker sheets and you are set the map board sticks up just a bit as it overlaps the top of one of the plano boxes but you'll see that the box top almost slides down to the bottom of this box now if you don't mind if everything fits in the box or not you can look deeper through the bgg thread posted by ryan h you'll find alternatives where you can put your map tiles into a file folder for easier retrieval or you can dedicate your fourth plano 3600 box for sorting and sleeving your cards and even there's one option where you can buy a deeper plano box and sort all of your cards the solution i showed you worked for me but i'd be interested if you have come up with ways to tweak this a bit to make it better or if you use a different storage solution or variations of this let me know in the comments so now let's get on with learning gloomhaven i'll post the next video here and in the description as they're released so i hope to see you there
