happy New Year everyone I'm Adam Hague from 3D games I've decided that for 2023 I want to build up an army of Menace tourists to defend the lands of Gondor with tabletop Miniatures a fantastic looking base can really help your soldiers to stand out on the battlefield and in this video I'll show you how to make some amazing looking miniatureth and osgillia themed bases for cheap [Music] pre-made textured bases can be expensive and personally I find that making your own custom bases is much more satisfying to make these spaces I'll mostly be using milliputt and blue stuff which will be linked in the description firstly heat up some blue stuff and press into the flagstone texture that you want to capture for this I used both the old ruins of Middle Earth set and the new battle of askilieth ruins set focus on areas that have the most interesting flagstone patterns the blue stuff will need to cool before removing this could be sped up by placing your molds in the fridge once the blue stuff is the molds can be peeled away from the terrain initially I used a mix of green stuff and milliput which was pressed firmly into the molds once set I removed the texture traced some 25 millimeter bases and cut to size this proved to be a little difficult because the material was quite brittle straight green stuff would have been better for this as it would be easier to cut the pieces were then super glued onto the bases it was actually a lot easier to Simply squash a blob of milliput onto each base before pressing them firmly down into the mold once the milliped is set it's a simple process of trimming the excess millipat is also a lot cheaper than green stuff and works perfectly for making bases like this an alternative method for making effective looking textured bases is with using a textured roller when doing this I found it helped to spray the roller with water mixed with a few drops of dishwashing detergent this helps reduce the amount of millipat that sticks to the roller now it's time to paint them start by priming them with brown followed by tan sand I spray this at oblique angles to leave the darker brown in the recesses heavily dry brush with a light gray followed by a lighter dry brush of white focusing on the raised texture next use washers to add depth to the recesses and some griminess to the flagstones for this I used the Army painter strong and dark washers these were thinned down with a little water the paper towel to remove any excess wash ethonian camo shade is then used to add some spot color which adds to the griminess and realism depending on Personal Taste you can then go over the bases again with a light dry brush of white to pick out the raised details in areas where I'll be applying tile grout I paint rhinox hide followed by PVA glue a mix of tile grout and soil is then sprinkled over the areas with glue before brushing off any of the excess these areas of dirt create a nice point of difference from the flagstones and reinforces the look of a ruined City such as those Gilead I couldn't just leave them like this so to create some extra details I found a variety of fallen leaves in the garden I used a leaf punch to create a whole lot of fallen leaves to give the bases an autumnal look these were scattered Loosely before sealing them and the tile grout by applying drops of isopropyl alcohol followed by matte sealant for the bases without tile grout I carefully glued the leaves in place with PVA this takes patience but is well worth it in the end the spots of color from the leaves really helps these bases to pop the bases are finished off by painting the rims with rhinox hide the different styles of Flagstone create some great variety while still maintaining cohesion and a sense of unity your Miniatures will need to be pinned and super glued onto these bases the old Slaughter Miniatures have to be cut from this slot before doing this pinning them in this way will ensure that they are firmly fixed to the base and will not simply break off when not if you've enjoyed this video hit like And subscribe and drop a comment below if you'd like to support the channel buying your hobby suppliers from any of the affiliate links in the description is a great way of doing this no extra cost to you and it seems a little cash our way which can then go back into making more content thanks for watching and good hobby and guys
