one of my favorite things in the world is homemade bread I like the way it tastes and I like the way it smells it was one of those things my grand both of my grandmothers taught me it's something I've always took for granted but I want to share with you how I make bread today on the Channel please punch like And subscribe for me that helps me out a bunch we're making homemade bread on the mountain today [Music] foreign [Music] so the first thing you got to know when making bread number one you're gonna get messy number two it is quite time consuming but it is well worth the effort the first thing you want to do is get the ingredients you're going to need some sugar you're going to need some salt you're going to need bread flour run down if if you live in town run to a grocery store get you some bread flour and obviously you're going to need some yeast I'm going to show you what kind of yeast I I'm not you know I'm not pushing this brand or I'm not making any money off of it or whatever this is just what I happen to you it's active dry yeast uh I also I use it for other stuff that that I'll show you down the road but this is good stuff and the first thing you want to do is you want to get that yeast working and in order to get yeast working it has to have uh sugar uh to react with so what you want to do is you want to get you about a fourth of a cup of of hot water and I'm just going to get some really hot water here as hot as your hand can stand it the reason it has to be hot is because uh the yeast has to react and it's not going to react in a cold environment so we're getting about a fourth of a cup and guys again I do a lot of eyeballing that'll be close enough we're going to pour that in there it's really hot you're going to need uh two tablespoons of sugar I've already put that in my cup and then you are going to need about I'm going to say half a tablespoon of yeast sometimes it's more sometimes it's less it depends on the humidity and you're going to hear me talk about that more as we go along the humidity outside the heat that kind of thing it can affect what's going on inside I'm going to start out with a half a tablespoon of yeast and I'm going to dump it in a cup with my hot water and my sugar and that heat and that sugar is going to make that yeast start working and then I just take a fork Stir It Up real good and I'm just going to set this down and I'm going to get my other ingredients together and I'm just going to let it sit it should start to rise a little bit in this cup you want to let it sit for a minimum of five minutes okay and I will show you what that looks like when we come back come back it is just a gooey yucky mess but I'll show you when it begins to rise what it should look like okay so why our yeast is in the cup doing its deal and I'm actually watching it now and it's starting to react a little bit but while it's in here getting hotter uh you can go ahead and get your other ingredients together you are going to you need to start out with one cup of bread flour go ahead and get that set aside you're going to need one teaspoon of salt you're going to need two tablespoons of melted butter make sure it's melted if it doesn't it's just going to lump up when you start your mixer uh here's the key three-fourths a cup of Buttermilk now you can use whole milk don't use skim milk okay it'll come out it's just not good buttermilk's going to give it a better flavor the buttermilk I'm using today is buttermilk that I have left over from where I made butter in one of my other videos so use buttermilk if you have it on hand you're going to need 3 4 a cup of that you're gonna get that one cup of flour and you're gonna dump it in initially when we get started and I'll show you how to do that um and then we're going to add another cup to it as it is mixing so one teaspoon of salt two tablespoons of melted butter 3 4 a cup of Buttermilk and one cup of flour all right two it's eventually going to be two cups of flour we're going to start out with one let me say this depending on the humidity outside depending on the heat outside you may end up using a little more milk you may end up using a little more flour that's where you you know you just gotta trust your instinct as you make bread more and more you can really start to watch it and you're going to know pretty quick uh what you need to do so go ahead while we're waiting on this uh to to cook or to to react the yeast to react go ahead get your ingredients together and set them aside I've already done that I'm ready to go that way I don't have to stop while we're filming and do that kind of thing so I'm going to put all the ingredients in the description but if you're following along right now and making it as we go go ahead and and get your ingredients together okay so I want to show you what it looks like now see this is the water the sugar and the yeast see how fluffy it's gotten so we are ready to roll and we are going to start putting the ingredients together see look at that that's what it's supposed to look like okay so I've got a fancy mixer you don't necessarily have to have anything this fancy um to to cook with I mean to uh to put this together with it just helps okay so we're going to go ahead and start putting everything together first thing I'm going to dump in is the yeast I just showed you we're just going to pour that in okay it looks something like that that's our yeast water sugar combo um here's our two tablespoons of butter dump that in all right I'm gonna put a cup of flour in here for slop we're gonna go with a teaspoon uh what what did I say yeah a teaspoon of salt I usually eyeball this but for demonstration purposes I will actually measure it out Kaboom there that is uh and then the key ingredient this is our buttermilk this is actually homemade buttermilk this is what was left over after I made butter earlier so uh yesterday so what I want you to do is save your buttermilk and if you can't save your buttermilk or you don't make butter run the store and get buttermilk and we are going to dump that in all right and now all I'm going to do is I'm going to get it mixing but what I also need to do is I need to get another cup of flour and start adding that as it is mixing so stand by let me get my other flour ready and we will get this going okay we're ready to roll I got my flour ready and we're just going to add this a little bit at a time I'm gonna put this on the lowest setting and get it spinning all right and just let it do its thing it's amazing to me how yeast works I make some wine and that kind of thing and just for yeast to do what it does is amazing to me okay so we're going to go ahead and add this in and when this really gets to where it needs to be it's going to start to rock it will actually get so thick that it's hard to to uh for the mixer to turn it as a matter of fact I'm gonna go ahead and crank the speed up another notch I'm going to add a little more flour add it a little at a time now you're gonna have some that get stuck to the side you may have to take a spoon or something stick down in there all right and as you can see it's starting to turn to dough now I can tell you right now because of the humidity outside where I've done this so much I'm probably gonna have to add quite a bit of flour to it today all right so I'm gonna shut this off and it's still way too gooey we're gonna put that in I'm gonna mix that in and I can tell you right now we're going to add some women don't have to add as much as I thought so we're gonna shove some of that flour that's stuck to the side on down in there oh yeah starting to look like it's supposed to okay so what you want to do is you can turn it off and then we are gonna scrape this off the sides help it out a little bit we may not have to add that much you want it to be very dry looking in other words when you take it out of this bowl you don't want it to stick to your hand okay see how it's turning into a ball now I'm gonna actually and I've done it so much I can kind of tell when it's a little too gooey I'm gonna lift this up and it is too gooey so we are going to fix that by adding a little flour and when I say a little just add a little bit about that much sometimes you have to do that sometimes you don't it depends on the humidity and oh it's getting ready it's getting perfect matter of fact I think it's ready to take out okay so let's lift it up oh it's so close I think I'm going to add just a little bit more just a touch more there you go I like it to be kind of dry some of y'all are dying right now saying go ahead and take it out but let's let's actually foreign it's starting to rock a little bit these I don't know if you can hear it or not but the mixer is actually starting to strain that's what you want to hear okay that's what you want to hear that is ready to work with and now comes the fun part okay so I'm getting down here with it all right I put this here because I want to show you my this is my favorite part of making bread it's ready to take out of the mixer you can see I've put some flour on my counter my counter is really clean I always scrub it with a disinfectant every time we use it so it's really clean you can use a a board if you want to whatever you want to use but I need to get some flour on my hands so I'm going to go out of the picture I'm not important you watch this so I'm gonna spread this around then I'm going to go into my mixer I've got it on my hands make sure you have it on your hands and it's a little bit more gooey than I like but we're going to take care of that in just a second okay oh yeah we're gonna be able to work with that so you can see it's sticking to my fingers well when you get it the way it's supposed to be it's not going to stick to your fingers and we are going to need this bread okay and what we're doing now you got to remember it's got yeast in it so we're pushing that air out of it use this part of your hand use the heel of your hand okay use the heel of your hand look at that ball we have now look at that see it's still sticking just a little bit go ahead and get some of the more flour on there and we are just going to push it you've got frustrations if you're mad take it out on the bread okay take it out on the bread what I like to do is we're going to put this in a bowl and we're going to let it rise for at least 30 minutes okay now as cold as it is outside today it could very well take longer do you see how small this is now what we want to do is put it in a bowl keep it in a warm place and let it rise now I will take my bowl a lot of times sit it on top of the oven and let the bottom of the bowl get good and warm okay so I'm ready to transfer this to my bowl and I want to do a before and after shot with it so you can see just how much it's going to rise remember you've got yeast in this ball now yeast is in there mixing with the sugar it's mixed mixing with Heats mixing with the water yeast is going to make this rise the more heat the more humidity you have the faster it's going to rise I'm predicting at least 30 minutes okay so stay with me I'm going to put this in a bowl I'm going to let it rise and then we're going to work some magic okay so I have my ball of dough here I have my bowl put you a little butter or something inside your bowl you notice I did that just grease it up a little bit that'll help it come out uh later on see how uh in comparison to my hand you see the size of it we're going to take it drop it in and then we're going to cover it up with a towel help keep in as much heat that also if you if you're cooking in the summertime uh you know you might have some flies flying around that'll keep them out of it then we're just going to set it aside and guys I'm going to let it set for about 30 minutes and then we're going to see how much it has risen after that time okay so stay with us okay let's check out remember how small it was okay now look at it look how big it's got look what that yeast made that do so it took longer than 30 minutes it actually took about 45 minutes maybe an hour I don't exactly remember but it's a cold day outside it's also very damp outside but you can see how much bigger it is and it is so fluffy you can actually feel it so what we're going to do pick it up and I want to show you the sheet of the baking pan I have here just a regular loaf pan you can pick these up anywhere or you can get little mini pans and make mini loaves of bread so what I'm going to do I'm going to try to do this one-handed quack and it goes okay and we are just gonna put it in there okay all right okay it is ready to put in I've got my oven set at 350 degrees we are going to go for about 25 minutes I actually forgot to take one of my other pans out of there it's all right I'll move it we are going to slide this dude in so we're gonna go about 30 minutes 25 30 minutes and then we'll check it out all right folks it all to be done oh look at that wow I believe that's gonna do right there good stuff hopefully it'll fall out and it did get a good look at the bottom got a little flower on be all right and there she is and it's very hot as a matter of fact the way this smells I think I need to get a little butter and cut me off a piece just a taste test okay I'm not trying to make you jealous or anything like that but you cannot imagine what this smells like right now look at that you take that a little bit of butter I'm just letting it melt on there not even rubbing it let that melt look how hot that is isn't that ridiculous somebody says that's fattening I agree it is but boy it's good so I'm gonna do a little taste test here that butter is melted on there nicely as you can see matter of fact it's melting out all over my hand that is so good you can't imagine what this tastes like what this smells like that is hot it's about so hot I can't eat it got that homemade melted butter on top of it please go back through the video and I'll tell you what I put the ingredients and steps and all that I put them down there in the description and make it easier on you but share this video out with your friends like it subscribe one more thing I forgot to mention you can make two or three loaves at a time cut them up into slices and then freeze that and save it and then just toast it when when you know you pull it out of the freezer I do that a lot that way you don't have to make bread every time you you want some but for right now I'm gonna finish eating this I'm gonna slice this up after it cools a little bit and get it in storage if I know my daughter she's probably gonna smell this and come running anyway so I don't know how much of it's actually going to end up in the freezer listen God takes care of me he taught me how to do all this through my grandparents God bless you and thank you for watching [Music]
