the materials you are going to need for this is going to be some popcorn kernels whole grain non-GMO Wide Mouth Mason jars preferably wide mouth and then just a pressure canner today we're going to be teaching y'all how to make mushroom grain spawn using corn first you're gonna need some corn 100 whole grain non-GMO the whole grain and non-GMO is practically going to go for almost every Green you use whether it be rice Millet wild bird seeds whole loads rye berries I'm even not if not most all of them you will have to get whole grain non-GMO that's very important so we're gonna be making three bags today foreign [Music] the corn out so just clean it out real quick and be back so I'm gonna go clean this out and I'll be back real quick okay so once you have finished rinsing your corn out preferably you'd want to do this in a strainer but I don't have a strainer right now so I just did it in this but straightener or not as long as you get it rinsed out thoroughly you'll be fine I also went ahead and put some water in the pressure canner and I'll show y'all that right now so you'd want to put about a little maybe about I'd say about two inches more than however much the corn fills up because you don't wanna you don't wanna under fill but you don't want to overfill but at the same time it's always better in my opinion it is always better to put more than two lifts because popcorn when it gets hydrated it gets about double maybe even triplet size I'd say so you just want to go ahead and throw this in here [Music] scoop up the rest of the Corn I got stuck to you all right so once you have that you're just going to want to get this this pressure canner to about a simmering stage not boiling just simmering so it can start to hydrate I'm also going to add about a tablespoon of gypsum real quick so I'm gonna go ahead and add about a a teaspoon of some gypsum real quick you could also use coffee grounds or you can use no nothing this just adds a little bit of nutrients to tear grain spawn which will benefit them in the long run all right a tiny bit more all right there should be enough and then you're just going to want to get this to about a to simmer so I'd say a little bit above medium and then just wait till they start simmering and about every 10 minutes you're just going to want to Stir It Up So the bottom the kernels that are at the bottom don't burn and it'll be good oh you're just gonna stir this every 10 minutes I'll show y'all when I get to the simmering point once it has reached to simmer you're just going to want to set a timer for about 40 to 45 minutes whenever your corn is done simmering and you're just going to want to take it off the heat take it off the stove and then I I usually dump it out in the sink so all the water can filter it through or filter out you're just going to want to clean your whatever sink down you're using with some Iso Purple all right and then make sure no corn is gonna seep through you only want water going out and then make sure you turn your cold water on because this water is really hot and you don't want to damage your pipes when you're filtering it out foreign [Music] everything out and you're just gonna wanna make sure everything is flat foreign you're just going to want to let this sit for about 45 minutes but make sure about every 10 minutes you're stirring it so it can all evenly cool so now that the corn has done cooling down in the sink uh what I like to do is I like to go through the kernels and make sure there's no rotten ones because for a little further along the line when when the mycelium is taking over those rotted ones can lead to content this is contamination this is definitely not a need this you don't have to do this at all as soon as it cools down as soon as this cools down in the sink you can immediately start filling up your mason jars but I just like to do this in order to be safe you can never be too safe when it comes to contam so basically you're just going to want to look through here make sure there's no rotten ones it might take a while this one's kind of messed up so tosses man out and just look through them make sure everything's okay again this is an option all this is not needed as soon as it cools down in the sink you can immediately begin filling up your mason jars now a good way to make sure your corn is is done cooling down and it has absorbed all that moisture is to get tissue paper toilet paper whatever and then just grab some kernels put it on here and wait about five to ten seconds I'd say just just let it wait there like you as you can see there's no water droplets on here looks exactly the same that means the corn has absorbed all the moisture and it is ready to go in your jars now that I have finished going through my corn all I'm going to do is start putting this in the mason jars and a good way to check if your corn is at good fuel capacity or over hydrated or under hydrated is you're just going to want to grab one and then you shouldn't be able to squish it just you should not be able to smush it but once you bite it in half you should be able to easily easily just break through it once you've been in it in half so once you have made sure you can see outside a good Field capacity you can just start filling up filling up your drawers I like to get my jars to about this point right here so there's still room left to break and Shake and it's but it's still pretty full in my opinion was still good enough to shake up when needed someone filling up your jars I like to go to about right above the K so that still leaves room up here for you to break and Shake and you're not it's not too compact so right above the K that's a good that's a good limit to stop your corn or whatever grain you're using in my opinion so once you have put your corn in your jars you're going to want to put three quarts of water in your pressure cooker or depending on the size of your pressure cooker a bit less I'll show you uh I'll show you what this looks like in a second just to give you a look of what it looks like I'm using the lids that I have made here at home but if you don't have access to Lids like this you can use uh lid Tech you can use the lids that come with the mason jars and you can just flip it upside down like that and then you're just going to want to get some aluminum and just put it on tight this will prevent any water from going onto the filter and just messing up the messing with the filter and all before before you do put these in the pressure cooker you're going to want to just unscrew them a little bit not too much maybe about a quarter of an inch just so steam is able to seep through and sterilize everything inside of here so I was editing the video and I realized you couldn't really see how to how to keep your jars a little bit unscrewed so this is about fully closed it's not it's not gonna budge you're just gonna want to turn it or open it about a quarter of an inch so it's tight untied in the bit and this will just allow for steam to pass in through here and pressure sterilize everything in the corn so let me show y'all the pressure pressure cooker real quick about three quarts of water and then you're just gonna wanna load these in here so once you have put all your corn inside and remember make sure to keep the lids about a quarter of an inch open so all the seam can see all the steam can seep through and sterilize everything in there you just want to get your pressure cooker lid and put it on there all right so once your lid is on you're just gonna put your your stove on high and then whenever it hits 15 whenever it hits 15 psi you're going to want to turn this down to a medium and you keep it at 15 psi no uh maybe you can go 16 but just try your hardest just keep it at 15 psi no lower for sure and then wait 90 minutes 90 minutes at 15 psi and then that'll sterilize everything in there I forgot to record for a second but whenever 90 minutes at 15 psi is done all you're going to want to do is turn off the heat and then just let it cool down let it depressurize on its own do not take off the weight just turn off the heat let it depressurize and then let it sit overnight to cool down and when it's completely cooled down you're just going to open the lid open the lid screw on the the Caps of the jars and then just whenever you want to inoculate and oculate your mic helium into it and then be patient
