How To Make Let's Plays

hi guys today we're gonna talk about how to make a let's play youtube video we've talked in the past last video we talked a lot about making evergreen content this is a great way to get people to your stream and a lot of people we've got a lot of people riding in a lot of people have asked well what about Let's Plays or Let's Plays a good idea I mean I'm playing the game anyways right there's I see Let's Plays out there are Let's Plays great evergreen content and my answer is both yes and no and the reason I say yes and no is because there's a lot of Let's Plays out there right just like there's a lot of how-to videos out there so in that respect no it's not the best evergreen content but you can make a good evergreen content by putting your own spin on it by making sure your SEO and your tags and your titles are really good and we're gonna talk about that here today what makes a good let's play and how you can make good let's play videos to upload to YouTube first what is a let's play video for those of the normal what a let's play video is it's basically a streamer or a gamer or a content creator who plays the game chops it up into parts so it'll be called duty part one campaign Call of Duty campaign part two call duty campaign part three they'll chop it up let's say they chop it up into ten 15 minute segments or even by levels right each level is one video and they upload them to YouTube in sequential order and you as a viewer can go through and watch the let's place I myself have experienced many games this way that I haven't played but it they're cool because they bring the viewer in in a way that makes you feel like you're experiencing the game as well you are just not you're not playing it right so you you get to see it you really gets you get to learn the game see how the game is played learn the crazy cool story stuff like that but you're not playing the game yourself I do this with games that I know I won't have time to play or games that I know I'll just have no interest in I'll sit and watch a let's play I have a couple of my favorite let's play youtubers that I really enjoy so what makes a good let's play what do you have to do to set yourself apart for a let's play first make sure it's well produced audio is going to be key here as if you have crappy audio if a user can't hear your voice then and and hear it clear and it's not on par with the quality that the game audio is it's it's an immediate turn off particularly in a let's play now I would stay away there are Let's Plays and there are big let's play YouTube creators who don't have any sound I would stay away from that because you're just unless you unless you go through and very very very highly edited they're big right and so they're able to do that they're able to do that without their voice they're able to just play the game just show the game they're big enough that they get advance copies so on day one of game release the entire game has been played it's released as a let's play and people are able to go through it that's how they're able to do that I would stay away chances are you're not to that level yet if you are great that's something that you could do but if you're your chances are you're not to that level yet I would stay away from Silent Let's Plays so audio make sure that your audio is is key make sure your entire video is very well produced this means edits you're gonna cut out anything that you think maybe drags right you think you're a movie you're creating a movie here a game is just a movie go through edit out anything that you think drags right for instance if you're walking forever in favor forever and forever if ready to do something creative that makes it entertaining for the viewer to go if you're doing a Madden let's play a lot of I watch Madden Let's Plays I really enjoy native or even seasonal NBA 2k let's plays they edit a lot of streamers will edit out a lot of let's players will edit out the play calling part right so I've just seen play after play after play after play I'm the result of those plays highly edit highly well produced make sure your production is on par I would highly recommend for capturing your let's play footage OBS you're probably already using it if you're a streamer and then make sure just bump up your bitrate make sure your bitrate when recording is super high to get the highest fidelity video that you can and then edit it along with this are you going to be on camera I would recommend being on camera because ultimately just like streaming it's you that the person is going to watch I would I would recommend being on prank camera for these let's plays where do you put just position your camera you don't want your position your camera to be over the radar right or maybe there's items at the bottom of your screen or the top of your screen you want your camera to be in the least obtrusive place possible so that viewers can see you but also enjoy the game and the let's plays at the same time the key here with quality is to adjust your settings and your delivery over and over and over and over again until you get the highest possible production value that you can with the let's play the name of the game and let's plays is production value keep adjusting keep tweaking to get the highest production value that you can how did you set yourself apart sin let's play I would highlight the unusual highlight things that nobody else is highlighting let's say I'm gonna use Red Dead Redemption as an example here because this is a game that has a lot of unusual stuff Grand Theft Auto is the same way I would highlight the unusual people the unusual characters the unusual scenery for instance in Red Dead Redemption you can go up into the mountains in the snow and they're not a lot of people know this but there's a conquistador that's frozen from way back when and you can take his make that and make that a let's play episode going up and finding this crazy cookie store maybe you enjoy a role playing a little bit maybe you do voices as you go and play through the game the best let's play videos have something unusual they have something interesting that they're focusing on find your lane in the let's plays find something unusual focus on something different and interesting that will make your let's place different from everybody's else else's that will set them apart and that will grab the interest of the viewer next and you know this if you're a streamer already personality is everything let your personality shine that's why we have a camera that's why we have a mic you are playing the lets through if it's a scary game show off what you're scared about if you love call of duty and you love the campaign and you're just blown away by Piccadilly Circus the crazy chaotic scene that it is highlight that show that zoom in on your face at times and zoom out and show your reaction don't be afraid to react don't be so serious talk to the camera as if it's a viewer talk to the viewer as if they're there sitting in the room with you while you're playing your let's play make them feel like they know you that you're best friends that they're just sitting along with you for the ride allow your personality to shine this helps set this this is ultimately ultimately when I decide what let's play to watch it's all about personality I have some personalities that I really enjoy some content creators that I think are hilarious that I think are a good time that I enjoy their insight into the game as their that's that's one of the biggest factors in determining what let's what let's play videos I want and finally don't spoil the game in other words do not focus on explaining what happens each step like now I'm gonna look in this bucket now I'm gonna open this chest you're stating the obvious they can see that that's what you're doing now this works for for streaming because you're trying to be entertaining live on the let's play it's a little bit different it doesn't work as well focus on interesting segments during your let's play right create a segment like alright our mission is this how are we gonna go about this mission let's say it's hitman that we're playing hitman is a great puzzle game there's a super interesting game that you can do let's play okay this is what we got to do we have decisions we can choose any way to do it here's my strategy I'm gonna go through the kitchen grab the knife kill this guy from behind while he's eating spaghetti okay here we go guys and then boom that's a segment you go through you do it you focus on it instead of now I'm gonna press a to open the door now I'm gonna press B to open this chest now I'm gonna press X don't do don't do that don't do that focus on the narrative aspect the storytelling the unusual or interesting segments of the let's play don't spoil the game by hyper micromanaging micro narrating every action you're taking focus on the narrative focus on the characters themselves the story itself now that you've created you've highly produced you've highly edited you've chosen interesting scenes you have a great narrative you've done the let's play to the best of your ability and you think you've just nailed everything when you upload it to YouTube this is key you're gonna have to make an interesting thumbnail you're gonna have to focus on the keywords in your title and also in your tags or else nobody's ever gonna find you let's play if you're building a brand make sure that your handle matches your brand right that you're you're you don't want to be like scientists 24 for your YouTube channel but meanwhile you're just doing call of duty and first-person shooters that doesn't make any sense right make everything make your avatar really make sure your YouTube channel is complete it's put together you have a schedule of how your you have a you have a format of how you're gonna release your Let's Plays of how they're all gonna look I would consider putting a reaction in each of your thumbnails a lot of people will just put a picture of a game part one right here's a picture of Call of Duty and this is part one everybody does that so why am I gonna click what sets that thumbnail apart from your let's play I would include yourself I would include an interesting scene something that's different and then name each section one part one something different than part 2 part 2 something different again focusing on the narrative focus on the interest in segments of your let's play let's place they're a great way lots of people do them and when done right Let's Plays can be fantastic creative interesting evergreen content take your time make sure you do them right right make sure you focus on the
