hey guys welcome back to furniture flipping teacher it's lauren here today is a hot hot day but it's okay because we've got a one day furniture flip coming at you right now with a new to me paint so let's get into it [Music] so this dresser here i got off of facebook marketplace several months ago and it was actually the original dresser that i was going to flip for my brother and sister-in-law which by the way they have their baby boys and they are just so adorable finn and anders so we'll pop a picture up right here for you guys to see them anyway back to the dresser so i ended up paying a hundred dollars for this because it was going to be a gift to them well when i found the other more changing table like thing then i just went ahead and did went with that one so i've had this dresser for a while i over paid a little bit for it but that's all right we still got a flip to do i think that this brown dark color is just a little bit outdated so i want to spruce it up and give it a little bit of a lighter color you know the first step let's remove the hardware so i have been planning this flip for a little while now and i know what color i want to use and i also know that i want to remove this hardware and not use it again on this flip so i actually went to hobby lobby and picked up a few different styles so we'll see which and which one ends up on this guy we're getting used to all the spiders around here there's constantly daddy long legs and different creatures crawling in and out of our furniture [Music] all right all the hardware is off the drawers are out and so you know what time it is time to clean so like i told you i'm going to be using a paint that is new to me and that paint is beyond paint and this video is sponsored by beyond paint so this is something i've never used before and that means that i'm going to be using a new cleaner beyond paint recommends that you use simple green to clean your furniture piece it is a non-tsp based cleaner but it is a degreaser so it's going to get all that dirt and grime off in order to make the surface a little bit it's going to give it a little bit of tooth as the beyond paint brand suggests that you need in order to apply your paint and in order to get the utmost finish so let's go ahead and apply the simple green and then we'll wipe it back we want to get a pretty liberal amount of the simple green onto the surface of the dresser and then we want to let it soak in for about one to two minutes before we wipe everything back you might have noticed my little neck cooling rag and shout out to poppy and her daughter they sent both neiman and i one of these to just keep us cooler in this hot shop and then of course we've got our ac going on us but it's like 95 degrees which means it feels way hotter than that but we're pumping it out we're gonna go ahead and use my clean water and wipe down the dresser all that simple green is all nice and soaked in remember that cleaning is one of the most important parts of flipping and painting because we need to get our surface all clean and ready to have the paint adhere to it well [Music] all right and now we rinse [Music] sometimes i like to speed up the process and dry the remaining water so everything's dry now and this paint is a little bit different than the ones that i use most often hold on just a second it's hot man that heat is seriously no joke but i'm so glad we're using an all-in-one paint today beyond paint is an all-in-one and it bonds primes and seals all in just this jar when i apply it to the furniture there is no stripping needed you don't need to sand which is something that i'm like oh gosh i don't know and then you also don't need to prime because everything is built in you can use it on wood linoleum glass laminate plastic so many different surfaces and it will stick right to it so we're gonna try it out first today on this dresser and we're gonna see how we like it so before we see how we like the paint i did see one little minor fix that i need to make while i was cleaning and that is just down on the bottom and there was just a little piece of wood coming up right there so i'm just going to take some wood glue and clamp that down and then once it dries it'll be as good as new [Music] while that's drying though we're gonna go ahead and start painting on the drawers so let me show you all the materials that beyond paint recommends in order to get the best finish with their paint so there's several options on beyond paints website that can help you get the utmost finish once your paint is dry so you can get the paint obviously and then they have kits that you can use with all the tools that they recommend to use with their products in this kit it comes with a tray a 3 8 inch nap roller there's actually two of those and then a chip brush so beyond paint recommends that you roll their paint on and then in any spots where it's tough to reach with their roller they recommend you use a chip brush and you use a stippling motion like this instead of brushing back and forth then once you're done you'll try and go over every area with that roller again and it'll go on a little bit textured but then it'll smooth out and it will have just slight slight textures when it's dry but that's going to help with the protection in the end so we're going to put some foil into this tray just for some easy cleanup then we'll put the paint in and then we'll get to painting i'm glad that beyond paint has this option of a kit that it has everything that i need all in one package it was about 15 for this kit and if this is going to help me get the best finish with their paint then i'm all for it let's talk about the paint this is going to be way different than chalk paint or acrylic based paint this is going to look like pudding it's supposed to be thick you do not want to thin it out it also says don't stir it or mix it or anything so all we're going to do is pour it into the tray and then we're going to start rolling it on well this is weird so i am using the color pebble and there are 16 choices of colors on their website and they have a pretty wide variety and i'm ready let's go roll on some paint so with my brush i'm going to use that stippling which is just up and down up and down in all of the spots where my roller can't really reach very well and then you kind of roll over where the stippling was done just to smooth it out one last time and then we'll move on to drawer number two it's a pretty easy process overall honestly the roller makes the paint go on a lot faster and i'm already done with drawer number one so let's go to drawer number two [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] code number one is all done with the roller and the stippling and i mean it might have seemed like it was a little bit of extra work but it was not really much longer to do it this way than it may have been to do with a brush just because the roller really helps you get a lot more coverage quicker and then that stippling motion is not really too bad i'm liking how it's looking so far we're gonna let this dry and the one thing with beyond paint that they recommend two to four hours of drying time but they said the longer you let that first coat set and dry the better it's going to hold up protection wise and kind of bond to that surface so just remember that when you're applying that first coat we're going to let this dry now and we'll be back for coat number two i am back for coat number two this morning yesterday we ended up getting started a little bit later we just decided to come back in the morning and finish up this project it shouldn't take much longer this paint is just amazing and it's got all those all-in-one properties so you know one more coat adding the hardware back on and then we'll be all finished overnight i put my kit my tray and my brush and my paint inside of a plastic bag and i recommend that you do this just just to keep the air out of it but that's so you don't have to necessarily dump your paint back and all of that stuff but i did end up grabbing the new roller head it does come with two so i just decided i'll use one for the first coat and i'll use one for the second coat so we're gonna open this up and we're gonna do the exact same process that i did yesterday with the first coat rolling on as much as possible and then just stippling with that chip brush in the areas that i can't quite reach with my roller [Music] [Music] okay our second coat is all finished up my next step is to let this dry i'm gonna let this dry for about an hour and then we will talk about hardware and then this baby will be finished so i am just thrilled with the amount of time that this took me it took me about an hour and 15 minutes yesterday and then about an hour and 15 minutes today so right now we're only three hours into this flip this paint is amazing you guys i love the way that it goes on really easily and then it also really flattens out and smooths itself out but yet it's also going to have awesome protection when it is finished and dry so i'm gonna let this dry and then we'll be back for hardware the top coat second coat is all dry so it just i mean you know there's like a tad bit of texture but it's not something that you can really tell you can't see any of the brush stroke marks or the roller marks or anything like that so i'm really pleased with the finish of this and it really feels durable too it's it's not a matte finish but it's more of a satin sheen probably between matte and satin so i really uh like this finish now we come to the best part is picking out hardware and i thought that the big bulky hardware that was on this piece before just wasn't gonna suit it after i gave it a makeover so i went to hobby lobby and i picked out actually three different types of hardware if you haven't been to hobby lobby they've got amazing hardware over there and usually i don't find myself there but this time i just didn't have any in my stash that i thought would look good and so i just went on over there and luckily it was 50 off we've got some choices basically so i've got the handle pulls the cup pulls where you pull and it would look like this and the only thing i'm worried about with this one is that because of the little lip here you wouldn't really be able to get under there very well but i do like the kind of smaller unique size of this cup hole so i think even though i'm not going to use it on this piece i am going to keep it in my stash for sure for another flip and then that leads me to these two so this one is a bit bigger and it's got some different texture on it it almost reminds me of like a snake skin texture or like a golf ball but kind of bigger dents instead of the circles and then we've just got a plain shiny knob that is really really chic and i like this one a lot i put them on here like this and then i actually took to my instagram at furniture flipping teacher if you're not following us be sure to follow us over there because oftentimes i do polls like this so i put a poll up and i said vote on which one you think i should do for these drawers this week and lo and behold and a lot of people have voted actually last time i checked there was over 800 people that voted so far and it's only been up for about two hours so that's pretty awesome but it's an overwhelming number of this guy right here who is the one who was voted the most so i think i'm gonna go with this one i gotta go with the people you know i personally think i liked this one a little bit better but it does allow me to use this knob on another flip right now i'm going to grab all of these out and we're going to get these attached and we're going to roll the drawers in and then we'll be ready [Music] [Music] it's done this was such a quick quick quick flip that i had a lot of fun doing it it was very therapeutic and different to use the roller with the chipped brush stippling motion it was just a different technique that i had never tried before but i'm glad that i did because i really enjoy the way that this paint just went on and then i love the final product so if you voted for these knobs you got your vote and i agree i think they look great i think the other ones might have just been a little bit too small for these drawers but the finished product is great our next step here is to move on over to the staging wall and then we'll be able to talk a little bit more about beyond paint as well as what i'm planning to list this for let's talk about beyond paint so like i said this could have been a one day makeover since i got started a little bit later yesterday i ended up having to work on it for two days but overall it only took me four hours something that helped me get this project finished in under four hours was the fact that there was very minimal damage the only part i had to fix was just to glue that piece back down so that's one thing that i've said before but i want to really hone in on make sure that when you're seeking out pieces that you're getting quality furniture and that you don't have to spend a lot of time on the repairs and the fixes and things like that now if you're into fixing furniture and something is headed to the landfill and your dream is to grab it and see what you can do with it and you don't mind what time you put into your pieces then by all means do that i have a couple of pieces that i've gotta do that with we are a hundred dollars into this dresser and then with the hardware that cost me about 18 so really not too bad 118 dollars in and then i'm planning to list it for right around 300 to 350. we'll see it's a pretty neutral color i'm assuming that it'll go pretty fast i can list it as a changing table because that's really what it's made for or i can just list it as any dresser it is just a really nice dresser the drawers move in and out really nicely which is something that i always go for so that again i don't have to fix it but then also so that the customers are happy with it now let's talk about beyond paint one more time because this was my first time and i really want to share with you guys what i thought of the paint as i said several times now it went on so easily the brush and the roller technique is super fun to do and i know that's weird that i'm saying that it's fun but i just love doing this stuff you guys and it's fun to try different techniques sometimes whether you're brushing it on or spraying it on or rolling it on i really love all techniques now beyond paint does need two to four hours to to dry in between coats the longer the better so it was probably even a good thing that i did let it dry overnight but the other thing is that it is a little bit more susceptible to scrapes and scratches in that first two to three days so you want to be really careful when you're using beyond paint and just be careful with what you said on it be careful with what you hit it up against and things like that and maybe this will be one that i will keep off the market for a couple more days just in case something someone wants it immediately then you know i want it to be able to cure for that two to three days but after that two to three days it should be good to go and then it cures fully after 30 days i really enjoyed using this beyond paint if you guys are interested there is a link down below in the description and you can try out one of their 16 colors i am going to be using beyond paint in
