what's up guys welcome to new Unreal Engine 5 tutorial and today I'm going to learn on how to make footsteps I'm going to be using meta sounds in order to randomize a bit the pitch and make them more Dynamic each time that they play and also gonna go ahead and synchronize them perfectly with animations so when the foot you know go ahead and touches the ground we go ahead and play this one all right it's gonna be a very easy beautiful so let's get started but first check out the link in the description to get out with some unreal ending courses on winbox alright so the first thing you want to make sure is that we have the Mana sounds plugin enabled so let's go ahead into edit plugins and then search for meta sound and then you can go ahead and enable this and it will probably pop up that it seem better it's okay go ahead and click this and now another pop-up will go ahead and appear down that you have to restart the editor go ahead and restart the editor and now when you come back the plugin will be enabled all right so I'm going to be using a base footstep sound because we're not gonna entirely make it with meta steps that's pretty complex so what we're going to do is kind of use a generic footstep sound which I have on here just go ahead and listen to it so yeah go ahead and use whatever sounds you want um I got this one from freesounds.org you know it's just a very generic footstep anyway let's go ahead and start out by creating the meta sound uh option okay let's go ahead and right click so sounds now you will see a meta sound sword so this is going to be our meta sound underscore footstep as go ahead and oh my God didn't don't even know how to type over here footstep with two o's there we go let's go ahead and open this up so I do have a beginner tutorial on medicines so I'll be linking description just in case you want to see it after this video anyway so we want to do is go ahead and play this sound over here so just go ahead and get the on play and just go ahead and say play and now we can also input a wave player in that case it's going to be used mono and then we can just go ahead and type the output into the output and then on finish into on finish so now the Menace I will know when the uh sound has finished playing and we can go ahead and now put it into our speakers and stuff so now we have to select our first step sound over here let's go ahead and find it and if we press play there we go we can go ahead and hear it like normal now what we want to do is go ahead and make it a bit more Dynamic we're gonna go ahead and basically change the pitch a time that it plays into random value between two you know between the maximum and a minimum okay so what we want to do is get the pitch well first of all I'm going to Showcase I mean how we'll look for example now you can hear this but if I were to put a pitch up for example 10 you can see how it changed so basically we can kind of dynamically change it so go ahead and put this default as zero and now we can get the pitch ship and add a random float and now what we can do is get a minimum so in our case go ahead and drop down into -3 and the maximum I'm gonna go ahead and actually Crank It Up into seven so now if I press play you will see that each sign that replaces it will randomly change between them you probably maybe don't really appreciate a lot um of course you can change the minimal and maximum to be more you know exaggerated and see more but probably when you go ahead and test it yourself you will find a very useful now some of you may be wondering if actually we need to plug this into play into the next and then on next into here so it will kind of pass through this node and then play your sound the answer is actually now we can directly go ahead and plug it into play it will actually go ahead and it's like a pure call from here and we just go ahead and get the value from here and then we'll do it okay so you know to test this icon for example but here you know 100 and you will hear us too that is totally random so it doesn't matter if you don't connect it into next and stuff but anyway so what we want to do now is go ahead and play it when the animation plays and when the footstep you know when the foot touches the ground and stuff so what we're going to do is go into characters and mannequins and let's go ahead and find the Queen which is the one that I'm gonna be using right now of course you can find whatever animations you're using for your character right now if you have your own character or you have many you can go into its animations anyway we want to go ahead and open the walk animation of your character let's go ahead and open this one up so just ignore the shotgun it will spurn another tutorial anyway so now we want to get the camera to be a bit on the angle so we can properly see uh the the footsteps touching the ground basically so we can see over here that over here it cannot make the fat the first uh step over here so I'm gonna go into notifies and when we have the first track we're going to go ahead and properly align with our timeline right click and notify and then play sound so now if we select it I'll go into the details panel if you don't see this you can just go into window details we can now go ahead and select the Mana sound that we have to just created so Ms underscore 47. and then we want to do is go ahead and do the same so when the other footstep gonna touch it there we go with there we can go ahead and add another play sound notify and then again with our MSR score footstep and then we're gonna see that it again goes ahead and links over here another thing that we can use to go ahead and select it Ctrl C then click in the track and then Ctrl B so it will do it a bit faster and then the last first step over here there you go so now we press play we'll also go ahead and hear it on here in the preview and you can see that using only one single you know sound wave we can dynamically see Meta sounds change the pitch in order to make it more Dynamic and it's like we have different variations of it but we actually only have one and it is so so useful so now we can go ahead and save a thing now if I were to press play you'll see that when I walk you'll hear the footsteps now you only hear it once because I actually forgot it to go ahead and also applied in the Run animation so I went to Queen we also have to do it in the Run okay it's because it has a blank space and it went from walking into running very fast so let's go ahead and do the same in running let's go ahead and get the camera angle to be a bit there we go and then the first first step over there kind of and then on here let's go ahead and your notify please sound and again we want our MS on the score footstep sorry Ms underscore footstep and then we can selected go into C now you can see the ready and Rewind you can play some tags over here which kind of goes ahead and aligns when the feet touch the ground so if you want you can go ahead and kind of just put them over there and it will perfectly replace I didn't actually um remember about it but yeah you can go ahead and use these markers but of course you're using your own character you probably don't have this so you kind of want to do what we did with the first walk animation which is kind of fine spot so now if I press play you can also hear in the preview and now when I close it and press play you will see it and here it is when we play the game really cool and also there's more thing that we can do as you go into the jumping animation which I believe yes and many we can go into the land and go in here and now when it lasts we can also play a sound so basically how about here go ahead and actually I have it here we can just paste it over here all right and then you know the sound will play when I land so now it's like I'm running I jump I land play a sound and continue so yeah this is very powerful you can go ahead and use it we will turn workflow you want to play any sound dynamically between the pitch and you know in your animation or stuff so yeah guys join my Discord I have just opened it so if you want to join Link in the description anyway with that said let's if you found the video helpful I really appreciate you could like the video and subscribe to my channel I have lots of my review engine parts so if you want to check it out go ahead and now yes pretty cool and also there's more thing that we can do and
