How To Make Extra Money In 2021 - Furniture Flipping Side Hustle

hi guys welcome back to our channel today we're going to be transforming this old tv stand into a bar cart and we're also going to be talking about ways you can make extra money in 2021 [Music] we got this tv stand for thirty dollars uh just on facebook marketplace um but we kind of saw some really cool bones that we thought would look really awesome as a bar car so we are going to take the bottom off of this so this part here is just some particle board we're going to remove that and then put some cool mid-century legs on it um we're also going to knock out the glass and put some cane in it and put some new handles on it and paint it so i think it's going to be a pretty big transformation it's pretty cool because it you know it was an old dvd stand but i think it'll be cool for like holding drinks or glasses or anything like that all right so we are gonna pop off these handles and replace them with these these are just from an old house flip we had they're just extra um but we're gonna paint them gold kind of make them fit our vibes a little better we ended up choosing a more circular handle because this piece is really boxy and so just to kind of like soften it up so we're gonna paint that and stick it right there we're gonna have to fill in one of these nail holes um but it's gonna look really good so this top trim piece right here is a little bit awkward and just unnecessary so we're gonna take it off because we think it'll look cooler without it but we're hoping that they weren't hiding something ugly underneath it here we go why are you making me do this there we go okay nice i just got some nail holes to felt okay but i think it'll look a little more sleek without it so it's no big deal yes i'm glad we did that all right so when i first saw this piece i thought it'd be really hard to take this bottom section off i didn't think it'd be really possible but if you look it's just particle board and it's just screwed on so i think it'll be really easy you don't even have to break it yeah i don't think i even have to break it out pop right off i think [Music] all right let's see if these end pieces come off too hey hey easy as that i'm sure whoever watches this will try it and it'll be like impossible easy as that right so we got these legs at menards for three dollars a piece which is a really great deal i think we also had to buy these little angled mounting plates which i think were another couple bucks but um it'll really make a big difference and you can kind of already picture it it's gonna look it's gonna look cool so um we're gonna spray these gold the bottom uh metal part just to match the handle and then we're going to do a nice dark stain on these oak legs um and we'll link some similar ones below that you can get on amazon too if you don't have a menards near you so first i'm going to tape off our legs so that we can paint this part gold and then we're going to stain this part later um we're going to be using this today it's a rust-oleum metallic gold this is one of our favorites because it's a nice like more yellowish greenish gold we don't really love using golds that have that reddish hue in them and then after we sand our cabinets we're going to be using this ultra matte premium rust-oleum black this is our first time using this so we'll let you know how it goes so we put them on the bases so that when we paint this we don't have to keep rolling them and waiting for it to dry so jamie will just paint it just like this so for our stain color we chose minwax special walnut this is our favorite stain it's kind of like a medium brown so we'll show you the finished product so i'm just doing some light coats on this it's kind of cold we're going to turn our heater on after we spray just to help it dry faster so we don't get any drips but if you live in a cold climate spraying in your garage you're going to definitely have to warm it up somehow so now i'm going to be measuring for my cane we're going to be taking out this glass part and then try to take out the center piece as well so i'm going to measure the full length across so it's about 14 i'm going to give myself about an inch seam allowance just to be safe um so that we can tack it in on the other side and have some extra so that's 15 and then this side is almost 17 so i'm going to say 18. and then i'll have to cut out cut off some extra cane later so after we cut this cane i'm going to soak it in a little bit of warm water because when it's cane gets a little bit wet it's a lot easier to work with and then when it dries it dries really nice and tight so that's what we're going to do next you have to soak it for about a half an hour here's our piece [Music] so while we're letting our cane soak we broke it oh my word so sarah went a little too hard with her hammering and actually broke the front door so we have a little bit of a problem here but um we just took a little time to reassess what we're gonna do and i think we have a solution so let me show you what happened um basically this is just you know particle board stuff so that piece broke um what we're gonna do is take the middle piece that we were going to take out anyways cut that to the right length and then put it all back together so it'll maybe add an extra 45 minutes or so to our project but it could have been a lot worse [Music] all right so now that we have our piece cut to length and then the holes drilled in for the dowels we're just going to use a generous amount of wood glue and glue it all back together and then if there's any extra spots we do have some wood filler too just to fill some of the holes and things like that so we'll get that done and we'll get to painting so that gluing the dowel trick actually works out pretty well you can kind of see what the door is going to look like um the only problem is now it won't shut because it's too wide at the bottom so i have to take the door off and then run it through my table saw but taking these few extra steps is really going to make a difference and i think it's going to look really good when we're done [Music] all right so i just finished sanding and now i'm going to get to painting so when you're painting big pieces like this it's really important that you always use a respirator those seams can get pretty nasty so let's get going so we finished spray painting these ends gold and now we're gonna stain this part um so i'm gonna tape off this gold so that we don't get any stain on it i'm just gonna dab a little bit in this paper towel and kind of wipe it on i like to do it thin i don't want it to be too dark it's so pretty so i just finished staining these they still have to dry but look how good they turned out all right so i just finished my last coat of paint is starting to look really good we're going to quickly put on these legs and then bring it inside to finish up with the cane i already have marked two inches in on each side so i'm just gonna screw them in it should be super easy so we are on the last step of our process um and that is to put this cane on we actually ended up soaking this in coffee grounds because i didn't want it to be so stark white but i didn't really want to stain it either so we'll see how it dries but i think it'll give it kind of a nice um a little bit of like a worn in look but still look new so what you do is you are going to line it up and then you have to staple in between every single circle to make sure it's really nice and secure and then at the end we'll go in and cut off the edges and so right now this is a little bit wet we just took this out of the sink but when it dries it'll get really nice and tight [Music] so we had to wait for the cane to dry overnight and jamie just put this door on and it looks so good so this is the finished product it actually took us a little bit more time than we thought but we're really happy with how it turned out and we're actually going to keep it we really love the size of this piece it's perfect for a spot that i have right by our entryway so that's why we're gonna keep it um and i really love the cane look right now it's really cool um and i'm really happy with how the legs turned out it's just like a perfect little piece for us we bought this piece for thirty dollars on facebook marketplace so between buying the legs which was about twenty dollars and the spray paint the cane and the stain we have about 40 extra dollars into it so that's 70 total um i think we could probably sell it for 150 to 175 so for us we've decided to keep it because we really love it we have a perfect spot for it in our house um and 100 profit isn't really that much for how much work we actually had to put into this but we think it turned out really well so even though we're not selling this particular piece of furniture we've actually been able to make thousands of dollars flipping furniture over the past year we did a lot more than we thought we would um you guys enjoyed watching the videos so we just kept making them and it was really fun for us but it's also been a really great way for us to make extra money we've actually been really inspired and we've had a lot of people reach out to us and tell us that they've tried our furniture flipping methods and they've been able to make a lot of extra money that have helped them pay for some really basic necessities loans yeah rent glasses tires like things that they need but really didn't couldn't afford so it definitely is a really great way just to have extra money and just to kind of build up your savings sarah had a dentist appointment today that i'd not appreciate jamie doesn't really believe in the dentist i'm anti-dentite he's just a dentist yeah and you're an anti-dentite i go every six months like a good citizen but so i went in for my six-month cleaning supposed to be like an 80 bill and i walked out of there with like a 700 bill and so that was like a perfect example of like something i need to pay for and i need to have done but i don't want to i don't want to pay for that instead of having to like dip into our savings or wait for a paycheck to come around um we're able to pay for that unexpected expense just by using extra money that we have from flipping furniture so if you're looking for a way to make extra money in 2021 we suggest first just identifying a skill that you're already good at you may have more skills than you think and if you absolutely have no skills check out skillshare but just identify a skill and then think of a product or service you can offer around that skill a very good friend of ours her name is jasmine she is an incredible talented artist she does a lot of really cool watercolors and she was able to do something really unique with her art and actually make money from it so at first she went into coffee shops and art galleries and she kind of put her work out there she also sells around christmas time a lot of like pet portraits and house portraits and family watercolor portraits um she has a really successful online etsy shop um she also creates digital products so she made some watercolor little icons for our website we can show you guys just some really unique stuff that she's found of ways to make money with her art so she took her talent of watercolor art and turned it into a product that she can then sell and make money from so once you have that then you just need to learn how to get your name out there and market your product social media is a great way to do that but also thinking outside the box like sarah was saying how jasmine went into coffee shops and found just different ways to get her name out there so we made a video on what we believe is the
