four three two one it's time for our show welcome to PTZ optics live we're now live every Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. eastern eleven a m-- pacific today we're talking about how to livestream worship services amidst the corona outbreak the corona virus outbreak now here in the United States many people are being discouraged to join large gathering spaces yes which is understandable but unfortunately houses of worship might suffer from that hopefully with the power of live streaming you can still stay connected with your congregation yes we hope that you know communities can band together and get through this but the recommendations from the World Health Organization calling this really a global pandemic and outbreak they say that we should just avoid large gathering spaces and there will most likely be a drop in in-person attendance at churches worldwide houses of worship around the world so learning how to use live streaming is really important today we're gonna go over very basic how to livestream stuff how to livestream with a webcam how to livestream with kind of a regular USB camera camcorder and then a PTZ optics PTZ camera it's gonna be a lot of fun let me show you guys the presentation we have planned and then we've got a great coach who's going to come in and teach us how to do this so we've got this great presentation all about how to stream worship services test put this together great little graphic to attach saying I didn't sing in this presentation I do want to mention that I have a book that was published in 2019 called helping your church live stream and you can get this book for free at PTZ optics.com slash book maybe test can put that link in the chat you can also right now we will be shipping these books for free the physical copy directly to your church anywhere in the world that amazon will ship to so if you want a physical copy of this only you know we can only really do this where our company is committed to do this during the coronavirus yes the physical coppy we will mail to you this is a great book to get to your pastor it's a great book to get to volunteers so that the a/v manager the tech team the volunteers and the pastor are all kind of speak in the same language there's a glossary in the back of the book everyone's sharing the same type of vocabulary and we can all kind of get on the same page about what needs to be done to do a nice beautiful live stream for your church shortly we we put the giveaway up a little bit late today so good for the end of the show we are going to host a giveaway so if you want your last chance to enter you can go to ptzoptics comm slash giveaway now to enter forgot about that yes we will be you will get a chance to win a PTZ camera for your church so great time to do that stick around for that that'll be right at the end of the show now our coach today is going to be Tom Sinclair he's joining us his company Eastern Shore broadcasting helps many churches around the world get started and Tom is gonna be the coach okay so just as I will be the interim pastor so I will be over here actually at a kind of lectern area and I'll pretend like I'm the pastor and test will be the unexperienced our audio/visual volunteer so tom is going to be working test through setting up her live-streaming equipment and it's just gonna be very simple this is gonna plug in a USB webcam into her computer she's gonna pull in a USB camera and then she's gonna pull in a USB PTZ camera we're gonna show all three of them with OBS today and then test will livestream to our churches that livestream facebook group so if you join that group it's on Facebook it's called churches that livestream you can see the output of what test is streaming today to give you an idea of the different cameras and and what they look like and everything like that so get your free copy we're going to be shipping these out soon and it's a great book it's got all of the things that you should be thinking about the things that you should kind of want to know about for your church stream setting up your stream it's got a lot of tips tricks and what other churches have found helpful you know all around the world what they're doing how they're doing it and then a big thing I should mention there's just so much great information here how to you know post for privacy and consideration concerns how to legally worry about licensing and make sure you're not you're not worried about that but the other thing too is how to accept donations online and I really think this could be you know a tough time for churches when in-person attendance drops donations generally drop but that doesn't have to happen at your church if you have a plan for accepting online donations and there's a whole chapter about how to do that so again aja Thomas how do you get the book go to PTZ optics.com slash book and you can get you can actually fill out a form where we will send this to you for free or you could just order it on Amazon as well so okay you ready Tess I guess they're ready as I'll ever be all right let's bring on our coach so our coach is coming on in just a second here Tom Sinclair is gonna walk us through how to get started hi Tom good morning guys great to be here thanks for having me Tom is known as the streaming idiot and he is going to walk test through how to do it what we're gonna do if we can do it then I know it can it's funny that you wouldn't you would phrase it that way Paul because tests very first live stream I was her guest and kind of her partner for that live stream and that was like 25 years ago I mean it was amazing two to five years ago eons ago but and and Tessa's experience then was a little a little bit of excitement a little bit of panic you know a lot of that and and that's what people are gonna face when they're live streaming for the very first time it's it's uncertainty you know is it going to work is it going to work the way we want it to work and sometimes you just have to plunge in without having all the questions answered what we're gonna try to illustrate today is how you if you're watching this show live or watching it you know within the 48 hours how you can live stream your Sunday service or your Saturday service or your Friday night service this weekend you can do it probably with gear that you already have yes you're gonna want a big fancy set up once you get into it and you know PTZ optics and Eastern Shore broadcasting are happy to to help you with that equipment when the time comes but the ox is in the ditch you know it's we're gonna do whatever we can to help folks that that comfortable physically attending church stay in with the rest of the crowd now you can do it with your phone you can stream live stream straight to Facebook and straight to YouTube with your phone if you've got a youtube account that allows streaming if you've got a Facebook account you can do that if you're an admin on your church's Facebook account you can you can live stream directly to your church's Facebook page and so we'll let you figure that out it's really it's really not that hard but today we're gonna say ok let's have a little bit of a higher quality broadcast than just something that we're using our phone for let's have a a camera which would be our video source and then an audio source that is going to give folks a at least a decent experience if they're watching probably not going to have any titles or lower thirds or play any videos or do any animated graphics or anything like that but at least we're gonna get the message out we can add that stuff later but let's see if we can't figure out a way today to get you live streaming this week with the gear you've already had and Tess is going to be our very inexperienced AV volunteer so tests are you ready I am I'm ready Tom I trust you ok ok so we're gonna leave we're gonna leave the pastor out of it for just a second because he doesn't need to know the nitty-gritty details it's the AV volunteer that's really going to be the one that's going to make this work and so let's take do you have a laptop there that we can use Tess I do so I have a laptop and I have a you different options for cameras okay and I have USB sources on my lap well first before we go to before we go to cameras can your laptop reach the Internet yes we have Wi-Fi and I am plugged into the internet itself via ethernet okay okay so if you have a choice between plugging into your local area network there in your church and using the the internet from that or just using Wi-Fi the plug-in is the better choice because that's going to give you a more consistent more reliable internet connection but I'll tell you I live stream every week from my church using Wi-Fi it's just I couldn't get we physically couldn't get a cable to the PC to connect to the internet so we're live streaming Wi-Fi one of the first things you'll want to do when you get your PC set up in the church is to do a speed test and see what your Wi-Fi not what your Wi-Fi but what your internet speed is there are two speeds with Internet there's download so if it's if there's something coming to you like you want to watch a movie or something like that that's gonna be the download speed we don't care about the download speed we care about the upload speed that's the second speed and that's almost always the slowest speed a lot of times when when internet providers Internet service providers talk about their their speed they'll talk about the download because that's how most people are using it but when we're streaming we're uploading we're sending video and date the data of the video from our location up to YouTube up to Facebook I say up but it's just really it's really out but we'll say up because it's an upload speed so we would like an upload speed that's going to be 5m BPS or greater now i'll tell you i live streamed at my church with a speed that was 0.9 Mbps for about two years so it can be done and the way that we're going to show you how to do it today you're gonna be able to get a a decent quality live stream no matter what your speed is well if it's really really really low you won't but but for the most part if you've got almost any kind of internet connection you'll be able to do it okay test so is test number one you're plugged into the Internet number two are you plugged into power or are you running on the laptop battery my laptop is plugged into power currently plugged into power that's critical for a laptop because a lot of times with laptops if they're not plugged into into an actual outlet and they're running on their own battery they might be running at 50 or 25% of their normal speed and strength so we want to make sure we're plugged into the wall make sure we're plugged into the Internet if we can we want to do our Wi-Fi test okay you know we haven't even turned on the computer at this point have we tests no theory no sure in theory no because what we want to do is we want to go ahead and plug in our camera if we've got one and right now we're talking about a webcam or you guys have got some other fancier cameras that will plug in USB but most anybody can a webcam for for seventy dollars I think that PTZ optics has got a superior webcam show it show us that superior webcam is that yeah there it is right there on the right that's their superior webcam and it just plugs in USB now test tell me does it does it matter whether it plugs into a USB 2 port or does it have to plug into a USB 3 port it is a USB 2 camera so you could do either that's really important test you know how to how to know the difference how to tell the difference best BT to port and a USB 3 port hmm depending on if it has a blue stripe in it or not yes exactly not 100% of the time but most of the time if you look inside the port on the PC or the laptop not on the camera and you see a little blue bar there that means it's USB 3 if you see a little black bar there that means it's USB 2 but the PTZ optics webcam it doesn't matter whatever webcam you get try to put it in the USB 3 port most almost all that will work there and a lot of them will work in USB too even if they don't intended for USB 3 so let's go ahead and plug in your webcam tests ok my webcam is plugged in over here on the right side ok and you'll probably get a notice on green here in the bottom corner if it's a if it's a PC I'm not a Mac guy so I'm not exactly sure how Mac net notifies you but it will say that it's it's plugging in and it's probably installing a driver or something like that that's completely normal don't worry about that it also is nice if your laptop or your PC if you're using one is updated with the the latest Windows Update that's always helpful so we've got our camera plugged in and the camera also has a microphone in it and that can get give us at least some audio into the system so with that microphone it's a pretty sensitive microphone let's say we're set up in the back of the church and we're looking forward and so we've got our camera looking forward it's gonna have a wide angle view and it's gonna pick up every baby crying every person coughing if you're stirring around at your laptop it's going to pick up all the stirring sounds so it's not going to be the best way to get the audio into the system the best way to do it is if your church has a sound system is to get a cable from the sound system and plug that into your luck a lot of times you'll need dapped err to do that because the cables coming from your sound system will probably one of those three prong correct cables called XLR or maybe a single spike cable that's a quarter-inch cable and so you'll need to get an adapter and Amazon is full of them if you order today you'll have it by 4 that will take either quarter-inch or XLR and convert it to stereo 8-inch sometimes that's called 3.5 millimeter and that you can plug into the mic jack on your laptop or to the line-in jack on your pc any other round of it will plug into maybe the headphone jack on your soundboard or to an auxilary output or to a main output if you've got one available and you'll talk to your sound people about what's the best way to get the sound to the cable but once you get the cable that's going to plug into your PC or your laptop so now you've got audio coming from the churches on now this is not going to be perfect because it's setup for people that are physically present so it's tuned so if their drums there for example you might not hear the drums because the drums might not be miked so only things that have mics on them are going to be the things that going to be heard on this live stream so but again the ox is in the ditch we're going to do the best we can let's take the live feed from the house let's plug it into our laptop so we've got our camera plugged in we've got our audio plugged in and now test what do you want to use first you want to use YouTube first or Facebook first let's go ahead and use Facebook let's do use Facebook okay so test is the one of the you come off the church's Facebook yeah you cut them off again up sorry Mike sorry Tom go ahead again yeah let's let's take that page fullscreen so that we can so everybody can see in full-screen okay here's our churches that livestream group and I think this would be a perfect destination okay okay all right now at this point test would you like to guess where you're going to go in order to to livestream what do you mean if we're going to start a live stream right now what button would you press in order to okay so I'm gonna assume it has something to do with this live video button oh good guess good guess all right let's try that press the live video button and now at the top we've got two choices there you can see the blue box and the black box and they're a little small for me to read so test can you read them out our first one is a camera source and another one is a connection source okay what we could use a connection if we were using something like OBS or V mix or Wirecast but in this case we're gonna use the camera that's closer rectly she has OBS ready for this okay yes close OBS yes is stolen the camera let me do a refresh there we go okay so where was I live video live video accessing your camera okay there you go and it is it has found a camera is that the camera you want it to find Tess this is the huddlecam looks like it's telling me this is the huddlecam EPT Zee camera I do have a few other options plugged in okay let's start right hand corner you see Tess has got a got a menu that she can choose since she has more than one camera hooked up it picked the first one and saw but there are several others why don't we go ahead and pick the webcam just because that's what most folks would be using okay this is my webcam let's go ahead and put that we're gonna put the webcam on the front of her laptop here so that we can see what it looks like I did it on yours I'm gonna be the pastor over here so I'm the pastor okay I'm on camera down fire and brimstone okay so so Paul is a pastor now we're not going to have the typical abilities to zoom in and pan around and do all those kinds of things again this is a purely we've got to get a live stream going by Sunday we've got to get the word out so we've got video now and Paul is connected to the the sound system there in the church and the sound system of the church is connecting to the laptop so when Paul says hello everybody hello everybody welcome everybody can now hear it okay now we're not live yet we've just got it set up in facebook test what do you think we would want to do next in order to go live maybe write a little something in the description or or press the go-live button well we we probably should give it a description so that people will know that hey this is our Sunday morning at 10 a.m. service come join us live if you can't make it to church that's good all right we're gonna type them just a brief description in there good shot Michael I like the keyboard shot there yeah nice shot Mike yeah that's a good one it's this simple it is this simple alright and should I add a title sure add a title see that option here the title that I add every week when I said livestream to Facebook from my church is my church's name Grace Anglican Church and then in parentheses I put the date and that way since their years and years of these videos online if somebody's looking for a particular Sunday they can find it pretty easily okay now while we're here let's switch cameras now so there's a there's another camera so we're gonna do three cameras today right time so we started with the webcam now the next one we're going to use is a newer camera from huddlecamhd this is the new 4k II PTZ camera now Facebook does not support 4k streaming but this camera allows you to very easily zoom in like a PTZ camera up to 3x optical zoom digital zoom and you still can it outputs to Facebook so let's show that test so now we're going to try this is a little bit more expensive than a webcam it's $500 so it's a little bit bigger than a webcam but now we're going to show what it's like from this angle so now we can zoom in a little bit the best maybe I should have tested it and folks this is the exact kind of thing that you can expect to go through as you're setting it up for the first time it's like okay we're putting these feast parts together we're not quite sure if they're gonna work and they may not appear to work but don't give up like look look at Paul Paul you're not gonna give up there he's got it going there we go okay so this is the webcam and then this is zoomed in and so we this is pretty much more like a regular production good job Paul now if somebody wanted to get one of these cameras can they get it by the weekend this camera is not shipping yet so this is not available yet but it's I just wanted to show that interesting digital pan tilt zoom and now we'll switch to our third camera which is going to be a PTZ optics camera right Mike and Tess is going to use an xbox controller to control it if you've got a young volunteer she's gonna use just just the d-pad and the trigger buttons fro it and now we've got a PTZ optics camera with the USB cable so it's still just plug and play and now maybe you can walk test through the U operating at PTZ camera tom and some of the reasons why churches want to use that ya PTZ cameras are great I'm not for me with the Xbox controller so much but the ability to set up what we would call presets where you can have a shot where you know where the pastor's gonna be if there's going to be a baptism you have a shot where you know where the baptism Cana be or there's somebody that's speaking from a lectern you can set a preset for that shot if the choir is gonna make a special presentation you can make a preset for that shot you can have a series of presets that you've already framed up just perfectly you know left and right up and down got the zoom correct and and you can with a click of a button move the camera to that position in the preset now what test as with the X with the Xbox controller it's a little bit more like a game so she's going to use one of the pads to go left to go right to go up and down and then another pad to zoom in and out do you want to show us that test yes I think we're just trying to grab the camera feed so here I'm using this controller so we've switched Facebook to now use the PTZ optics camera you can see it there in the little blank in the column on the right side now this you have a better shot at getting by the weekend but I don't know there we go so Xbox controllers are really great because you can get them on Amazon for just you know $20 and you can give it to a volunteer and they know how to use it and zoom in and out but also churches are really big spaces usually so it's nice to be able to zoom in 50 feet or a hundred feet from the back of the sanctuary and zoom in and show folks what's going on absolutely absolutely and we build a lot of PC systems for churches and we supply them with a lot of PTZ optics cameras and the reason why the PTZ optics cameras are so popular is because it does allow you to have one camera that can serve multiple shots without an operator standing behind it so you can put this camera on the wall you can put it on the side wall the back wall you can mount it on the ceiling I've got a church up in Rome Georgia that mounts it on the ceiling and flips the image and flips the controls so that the controls work intuitively with it and they now have the ability to have I think they've got ten different shots that they're using one camera for they have the one camera so they've slowed down the panning motion so that it's not a quick pan and you can do that very easily they're using vmix I'm not that familiar with OBS but I'm sure OBS has the ability to control the speed of the pan as well but but that's the kind of thing you can grow to what we're talking about today is being able to livestream something this-this-this weekend I realized I'd never press go high and test at any press life let's go back to that shot of the screen yeah why don't you hit go live there I want it I want to see this really happen test let's see if we can really get the live stream going should I press the button let me get back to my space go ahead hick alive absolutely and now for anybody who wants to see this it should be in churches that livestream Facebook group so can you see at ass is it working is it live-streaming is it not I think we are live you confirm Tom do you see it on your side can anybody in the chatroom tell us is is the livestream working I'll leave a comment okay maybe maybe someone else can cut can you comment Tom I want to just see if it's working if anybody else cuz there's so there's one viewer but that might be you test there's another viewer there's another Tom's in oh look it even told me that Tom joins look at that so I could say hello Tom so it is that's how easy it is Wow so there's there's there's our interim pastor right there now there's gonna be a little bit of what we call latency or delay between live and what you see here it could be 15 seconds it could be 30 seconds it could be as much as a minute it just depends on network traffic and how hard Facebook is having to work on this kind of thing so don't expect that somebody's going to be able to watch this and watch the live thing and see the same thing at the same time there's gonna be that latency there and that's okay the folks that are watching at home or wherever they are they're not going to know that there's latency they're just gonna know that hey I I get to see what's going on in my church how cool is this how cool is this now one of the other fact facets to this or parts to this puzzle pieces to this puzzle is the ability for for viewers who would be maybe church members or maybe just passers-by to be able to contribute that's gonna take a little while to set up you can set it up through PayPal you can set it up through Facebook there are lots of different ways that you can set up an online giving type process you might not be able to get that ready by this weekend but with a good fiery sermon from our interim pastor here and the mention of a mailing address you could probably get some checks in the mail there's a mail is still gonna be working okay one to thank everyone online looks like a lot of folks have been requesting free copies of our helping your church live stream book Thank You Jose from Maryland who we're gonna be shipping you out a copy of this book in just a moment dan Mae from Minnesota will be sending you a book as well everyone gets a free book today California Jay a Thomas from Merced California will be shipping you a book Gregory Brooks from st. Louis Missouri where I got married where my wife is from will be sending you a book today very excited to do this Jeffrey Helton from Spokane Washington while Washington is really the epicenter of this epidemic right now I hope you're doing well out there I'm so glad that you're getting the book and getting started so hey I'll leave from Richmond Texas we'll be shipping you the book and then we've got Davis Rigby so everybody if you want a free book where we're shipping these out directly to you guys so that you can get a copy it's PTZ optics.com slash book awesome well thank you so much Tom we are gonna try to fit in a podcast today where we can talk about this so our next step is selecting a giveaway winner I just want to note too that I believe mr. Sinclair has his own show at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time directly after our show so we invite you to go watch that after this Thank You Tess that's a great plug yeah if anybody's interested it's streaming Idiot's you can watch it on Facebook or you can go to our website that's dreaming idiots comm Joe Womble are you here what is the distance from the sound booth to the pulpit stage I'm not sure if there's some questions that they want us to answer really there is quite a few questions let us know Tom maybe you and I should answer any of these questions that are coming in we're happy to answer any of the questions really quickly and then I'm gonna be saying calling out names and putting them in the chat rooms to find a winner yes you can get a digital copy Alvin PTZ optics.com slash book yes digital copies are available and the audio book is also included if you want to listen kapil would like a copy of the book just fill out the form yes the xbox control should work with a wireless controller yep it should work and you if you want to go wireless the best way to go Wireless is to use the iOS Android or Kindle app with Wi-Fi there's almost no latency at all it's really a great app and it's good now will this work with vimeos livestream studio application yes it will PTZ optics cameras do work with livestream studio and we have PTZ camera control filled in so take out just Google or go to youtube look for PTZ optics livestream studio we've got a great great video out there will the e PTZ cameras work with the joystick yes and no I have to explain this yes it will work with the ptzoptics camera control app and the joystick you may have noticed that these that was a USB ptzoptics camera being controlled with the joystick there's also an NDI version of this huddlecam HD e PTZ cam it's only $4.99 so it's a 4k NDI camera and this camera here is controllable with any IP joystick the iOS camera control app so you can control this with an iPhone and Android IP joystick all of that this is a full nd ihx 4k p OE camera right so dan may tom did you see this breaking news yes didn't I call you yesterday and tell you what's gonna happen you did you did I'm hugely disappointed but it's probably the wisest move you know nobody wants to put their employees in a position where they might get ill for a company that would be a huge liability so I see that as the very best reason for doing it not to mention the fact that you don't want your employees and your associates to to become sick I don't think this this virus is quite as mean and nasty as the media would say it is it does seem to only affect us older folks but you know so does the flu so nevertheless let's keep going so this Sunday you can live stream using these tips and tricks that we've talked about we didn't have a chance to go through the YouTube methodology but it's very similar and if your church already has a youtube account then you can probably least livestream this weekend Dana mate I don't think you'll be able to set up a livestream account and live stream on the same day I think there's a little delay between the time you set up a new YouTube account and are able to livestream it so interesting I didn't know that oh that's a good point Tom if you have YouTube you know there was a time I don't know if it's still true Tom that you needed to get a certain amount of subscribers or watch time in order to livestream I wrong yeah I'm saying that I think now it's just a time a time period a waiting time period I think it's a like a 24-hour waiting period I actually assigned my ten year old grandson up for one and so we had to wait oh that's fun Paul is there a working microphone on the USB 4k PTZ uh yes there is it has a microphone okay all right so we've got a winner Daniel May all right we're gonna pull we're gonna spin this wheel to see it with Wednesday free ptzoptics camera then we're gonna run to our podcast studio and do a quick podcast ready one two three go let's see what it is a lot of great prizes on here - you can win a camera light you can win a lot of different things but the PCC cameras with everybody 100 camera light ok we will send you a camera light Daniel so just send me an email at Paul dot richards at ptc optics comm we got a run to our podcast studio thank you so much for joining tom it's been a great show stick around for the podcast thanks Tom we'll chat soon bye guys Hey
