hi welcome to another video if I get it done on repast today as you can see we're inside the garage today's project we're going to insulate the garage doors because with winter approaching you know the lot of coal pusher that do is especially when their real end like this type of the door here these are very thin aluminum of the coal from the outside comes right through Italy even though this sometimes that on the door itself you may do some condensation on this a moisture and when it gets extremely cold that moisture freezes so we have this hint that you can get and what we're going to do is going to insulate the doors with a with a thick insulation a little over an inch thick and we're going to cut it to size and little slide it in push a little bit on the door see and they have like a lip right here and there's a lip right up here as well and here and yes so what we need to do is we need to take the insulation put it up underneath here and give it a minute here so it stays there and it doesn't fall out so little what the panel's look like and I'm going to show you how it works like I said they make a lot of different kinds this particular one is actually I've seen people that do them with just regular insulation that you wouldn't use up in the ceiling to me that's not a very very good way to deal with it but to each his own which is what that type of insulation you would actually put some kind of sticky pieces through it sticks on the door comes true when you push the installation over it looks very baggy this looks much more professional when this one is done so let me show you what they look like these are the panels and most of the time these will fit any eight-foot garage door because like seven or eight-foot garage a little bit water that needs to be you can see that the back of the unit you see how it's a very smooth finish that looks like a painted finish it looks really nice when it's put on there that looks like a very professional job so the correct installation is actually it has these grooves cut into it the reason that the grooves are in there is because if you took this insulation you tried to bend it you see how it starts to bend if you bend it too far it'll snap with the grooves in there it allows you to bend it just a little bit further without snapping too good it bends into those grooves gives you that a little bit of a bend that's like that all right so then we're going to see as you can see it's a little bit longer and it needs to be so what we're going to do is we're going to cut them down and then I cut them down to the size this way and we may have to cut them this way I'm going to measure in the say so let me get some tools and we're going to do - I'm gonna do the left or the right door so let me get the tools and we'll continue okay now to do this job you really don't need a lot of tools this is what you're going to need I'm gonna you don't have to but I'm gonna put a piece of wood down underneath this here so I get a nice straight edge just to cut on top of you're going to need something whether it's a square like this was some kind of a straight edge a piece of wood or whatever you have so you can cut the insulation perfectly straight you're going to need a pen to mark on there our pencil will not work because it's it's like a very shiny material so little off with that we're gonna need a razor blade was something like Televi money for something very very shocked to cut through here and you want to make sure is very sharp because if it's dull you know the one that ripping the paper and it's gonna look terrible so they she have a nice sharp razor blade we're going to make sure we have something measure the exact length of the insulation piece that I put in here and last but not least you're going to need a ratchet I believe this is a 10 millimeter wrong it's an 11 millimeter you're going to need a ratchet with a loving going to be the socket and I'm going to show your water radio when you look at the lock on here see how this pockets hatches these screws in the back stick through about probably an inch through the back over here so what we're going to do is we're going to back these screws out just a little bit just so we can get the insulation behind it these screws don't stick here with Swan but these sticking a little bit furthest so let me loosen this up and then I'm going to show you how to to cut the insulation and measure it okay so now the screws are back down a little bit the insulation will go right behind it and like I said these screws here don't stick out far enough to interfere with the insulation all right so the next thing we're going to do now is a little trying to measure this as close as possible without having it too long or too short I'm going to show you what I mean if you look in this side right over here you can see this space was in a slide right here we want to get the insulation behind this in here as far as we can to this very corner back in here so we're gonna measure from in the back right here right there touching up against here I'm gonna measure it over here I'm gonna get an exact measurement and we have forty six and seven-eighths we're gonna measure the bottom and make sure forty six two seven eight all right next thing we'll let it in them till they come over I'm going to call our panel we'll get a measure twenty six and seven eight I'll bet I'm actually the other side now exactly 46 and 7/8 as well now we have what two points right here we are going to cut the shiny side first good you want the shiny side to be a perfectly smooth cut so now we're going to line this up with the mocks let it take a razor blade it's a Libby night whatever you have and we're gonna make a cut make sure you won't you square so it doesn't move and what I recommend to is you probably thinking you can just snap this up here break that off and have a nice scene yet don't do it because if you're trying to snap the door if it's going to break it regular and you're gonna have a problem with it so what I'm going to do now so guys come over here we're going to transfer that mark right here we're gonna transfer it to the top right there what is that same thing over here and now we have about two marks on the back of its here or no use a razor blade again and you can see you get a nice clean cut when you have a saw blade it's been we're going to do that when I come over to the door and we're gonna take this we're gonna put it only do this when you have first we're gonna catch it in the bottom right here and we're gonna catch it over on this side now we're gonna push it in this way as far as we can but see how now see over here it doesn't reach this is actually too thick so what we're going to do is we're going to pull only with one hand on top pull it a little bit here and get it uh neat yep just like that just a little bit see how it's underneath here in here and now we're gonna work our way over the exact same thing once you get to this point we're going to push the material this planet as far as we can until it touches right in that corner right there and we'll then lift off in place put it behind that lip okay pull out right here the way through the same thing right here that's it that's all happy all right so now I'm gonna tell you this too don't assume that this is forty six and seven-eighths don't assume that each panel is twenty six and seven days sometimes you'll have it off just a little bit and you know you want to make sure that you measure it exactly up on top and on the bottom see how to progress so let's measure this one right here and I will show you how to put it in behind this piece right here grab our measuring tape exact same thing you guys touching the back over there throw this corner right there far as you can I'm gonna measure here and they're also forty six and seven eighths so let's grab another panel we're going to measure forty six and seven eight [Applause] okay so give me that whole box well into the exact same thing line it up so that it's even on the on the two marks that you did take your razor blade and try to hold your razor blade or utility nice straight you don't want to be cutting crooked like this you want to be cutting straight up and down so we're going to run it across that very easy that cuts the outside shiny part right there one more time we had right yeah yeah way to do the same thing on this side here come on a square or a piece of wood or whatever you using for a straight edge put the razor blade on there and just cut across and again you see it's a nice clean cut all right just what I always do as well now you see this is the end here that I cut this is the end to I put in the back here as far as I can this part over here doesn't have a lip see how this is nice and smooth you there's no lip to hold it in so we're gonna push the cut in in over here so all right we're gonna take like this before the break again push it in just a little bit it's old it touches all the way in this corner right over in here are you point that is in that fall and I think this one will detach the body and we're going to put the bottom of that lip just like that you're going to pull out of this hand push with this hand together underneath [Music] and that's it that's how second panel now unless we can tighten it back in because the screws here and now then go into that that insulation and then we'll hold the insulation as well from sliding around not focused on the home but then actually go right into the insulation okay so this palette is now finished this tile is finished we can take it down with the mouse on the bottom [Music] okay we want to just point out to you now is that you will get us why these insulation panels well you know we can't get behind this one and that one at the same time so what we do with it we're actually cutting a small piece of insulation we've mentioned how far in it goes and it's about two inches so we're two inches in here and you but once we slide that panel in over there we can't push the panel we're still going to have that two-inch gap in there so what I'm doing is I'm cutting a piece of the insulation from the old one we're going to stick it in here so that when I push push the new panel in it's going to buck right up against it nice and tight so all right let me cut that 2-inch piece and I'll show you how to put it in okay now we have a panels cup and then put them back in you know what they go on like this [Music] well and that will take our panel we actually cut as well we're going to bring it into this side over here first if you want to push the panel all the way back in there I'll cut side that we cut we're going to put it inside like this our factory cuts on here we're going to keep up against the side VSO again we're going to take it we're going to take this we bend it slightly just together and that's it now you can see that this panel here touch it right up against that piece of insulation that I put here so we have no more void in a hollow area where cold air can come through so that's it this is it all the way we're going to continue with the other panels now I just want to tell you my help is he has to see what they can do to help along the way [Music] [Music] [Music] all right so as you can see just taking a few extra minutes and putting the paddles in this slide here it'll definitely cut down on the amount of draft through here this insulation is gonna make a big difference comfortable at the time last year in here it was extremely cold and here it was almost as cold in the garage as it was outside this year there's going to make a difference night night and day it'll save you on the the heating course as well because your car wash will retain the heat especially if you pull your vehicle in the garage at night and the heat from the engines in the garage will definitely keep the llama llama so that's it you're all set the material itself really wasn't that expensive I got into one of the larger plots the home goods stores but the material is available you can look online you can find it online as well and as you can see a little bit of time and you got a perfect job all right so that's it we're all set all right as always thanks for watching and I'll see you on the next one
