HOW TO INSTALL A METAL ROOF (PART 6)

[Music] [Applause] [Music] now that we got our corners put on next thing the last thing really is to put our ridge cap on I got a little scrap piece here I'm gonna use in basically that this is what it's supposed to set like on top of the the corners here it's gonna be out even or maybe just slightly past maybe an eighth inch or so won't hurt nothing and then just make sure it's lined up here in here and I need to snap a chalk line all the way across the roof on both sides in order to put my foam closures on so they're nice and straight so when I sent my ridge cap on top of the foam closures the ridge cap and the other thing we'll do too is you can notice whenever the foam closures are pretty fixed when you raise it up you see if my lines are no longer even with the ridge cap because we raised it up so I'll mark I'll come up a half-inch from the line come up 1/2 inch which is where I'll actually snap my line on each side I'll do the same at the other end and I'll snap my line and put my phone closures on [Music] all right get ready I got my line snapped here and getting ready to put my floaties on figured this'd be a good time to explain the Benton closure so the company I deal with has these types of enclosures basically they set like this and these are like a brillo pad almost they allow the roof to breathe without long so basically this end has a little notch so you want that in forward because your next piece will set on top of it like that so you peel the sticky backing off I just tuck them down and it'll blow all over the yard then we'll put these right at the line that's nice and tight against we'll just continue that all the way [Music] and now that we got in foam closures down next step is to solar rage get in at the end here you can see there's gonna be a gap in here so what I like to do is just rip off one of these vents out of the Ottoman a leftover closure and just stick it to the bottom side you just keep it back a little bit and whenever I install it it will keep the bees and the rain and stuff out of it and still go squeeze it down until there's about a 8 inch gap right it up against the rib maybe they have any foam post sticking out a little bit you can just tuck them up in as you go you also want to lap it at least the foot bring it back to the next rib and then you want to laugh towards the west wind if there she was loving north and south you'll laugh it to where if you're pulling the driveway you won't see your NC [Music] so once you have your pitch count tacked on basically the ends are screwed we'll go to the middle of the ridge about an eighth of an inch pop then we'll come halfway between the middle and we'll put another first make sure the foam is tucked up underneath it the reason for that is if you start on one end and work your way down it'll gradually pull your Ridge down it'll wrinkle [Music] I'd like to hold my finger here so I can tell how close I am to the wrist [Music] [Music] [Music] now is making sure the drill is at a 90 degree angle with the roof you don't want it straight up and down or it'll pull on your ridge cap and wrinkle it as well so always have it at a 90 degree [Music] now in the corner we'll just put it kind of in the middle of the corner middle up and down yes so it lays flat on the one once I'm done just make sure that some are pulled down tighter than others just make sure they're nice and smooth looking back from what would be the road or the driveway make sure that this is fairly straight [Music] [Applause] another thing I want to point out is when putting these foam closures in then they stick really well but the glue that holds them is temporary and over time it will dry out so it's very important that you run your screws down through your foam closure you don't want your phone closures up here and then you screws all the way to bottom I know a guy that had a barn and he did that and they blew out and then everyone and when he would snow he'd have a foot of snow down through the middle of snow with blowing underneath there so very important to have your screws go through your phone whatever metal in underneath there in wall trim here last thing we need to do take these solid foam closures and just tuck them up underneath here and they'll lock together like a puzzle almost on the end have them up underneath about a quarter inch we'll just run a screw down through make sure you go through the phone closure just put a screw on each rip all the way down through there [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
