How To Have Screen OFF Downloads On Your Steam Deck!!

what's going on guys so today I'm going to be making a quick video that I thought a lot of you guys would probably want to know this will work on both the steam deck LCD as well as of course the steam deck OLED and I'm sure that's where most of you guys are going to be really caring uh to do this this is how to have your screen turn off while you're downloading games of course if you just got your new steam deck OLED um you don't want the screen on all the time while buron on Modern OLED Leeds isn't really a big concern and to be honest leaving the screen dim on for a night uh while everything downloads isn't going to hurt it realistically but for those of you who are like me who want to take zero chances whatsoever this is going to be the video for you so first and foremost it doesn't work in game mode I don't know why valve hasn't added this yet but it's fine you're going to head down to power and you're going to switch to desktop mode it'll take a second to load up here and then um you know pretty soon we will be in KDE plasma right here um in our desktop environment if my track paddle work there we go so first you're going to go to steam right here and of course you're going to head to your library it looks like I got some stuff to update as well and I will be um no it's just some Shader updates okay well uh I will be installing Dave the diver uh it's only 2 gab I intentionally picked a small game because I don't want to have to wait a ton of time um for stuff to reinstall so first let's do how you actually um get the screen to turn off so um what you'll do is you'll head down here to your system settings it's worth just hitting Steam X just to have your virtual keyboard pop up and then you're going to want to type in just put like sleep mode um into the thing right here and you will see right here I believe it's in advanced power settings nope it was not there we go um energy saving the one right above it so you can have dim screen on right here for a minute but screen energy saving switch off after 1 minute I think this is going to be at like 30 by default right here so make sure you have it set to just uh 1 minute if you want it to just turn off you know as soon as it can if you're setting it to download for the night uh so now let's install uh Dave the diver here and let's see um if it'll even have to minutes to um turn off so we'll do this and I'm just going to set this down right here and we can watch the screen turn off in about a minute it's a good thing that my WiFi is absolutely terrible uh on the steam deck OLED I don't know why it was supposed to get better I used to get like 300 megabytes a second downloads and now I only get like 80 um on my OLED I don't know why it's fine it'll last perfectly enough time for what we need so it's okay see see the screen just dimmed right there and then in a couple of seconds we will see any second now come on Steam deck since they're both set to one minute I think they put a little bit of a gap in between them there we go it dimmed again come on it's so close turn off come on there we go it turned off right there I'll let it sit for another minute just to kind of prove that it's still downloading so the screen is completely off off as you can see nothing is on it whatsoever again this will work on the LCD as well so that's even be even more noticeable to see that the screen turned off um so screen is completely off and uh we will in a couple minutes here um I'll flick the trackpad so it'll turn back on all right this should be enough time I'll flick the trackpad back here and you can see there we go completed Dave the diver right there fully installed while the screen was off so again you can have this go completely on overnight um you know when you first get your OLED or if you're just downloading a bunch of games maybe you bought during the steam Autumn sale uh if you want to see some good game recommendations I'll leave an iard above to my video on that uh but regardless yeah that's how you do it so pretty quick simple video yeah thank you for watching if you found this video helpful uh a like and a sub would mean a lot and I'll see you guys later hopefully have a good one
