the steam deck OLED and the Lenova Legion go are both fantastic handhelds but believe it or not they're more different than you might think from software to Hardware to game support to even pricing they have a lot of differences that might make one better than another for certain people and so what I want to do in this list is give you five reasons why you should buy a steam deck OLED over a Lenovo Legion go and before you get mad and say that I'm a legion go hater or anything like that just know I made the exact same video but in Reverse about why you should buy a legion go over a steam deck and I'll leave that link in the description below if you want to check it out I really like both of these devices but they are two different devices so I'm just trying to give you guys good buying information all right with that other way let's get started the first reason why you should buy an OLED steam deck over a legion go is the obvious one it's price the legion go starts at 700 bucks for a half a terabyte drive whereas the steam deck OLED starts at 550 bucks for a half terab drive both models can then go up to a terab drive but your starting price is $150 difference where the steam deck is cheaper but the pricing difference doesn't really stop there if you try and find the cheapest Legion go that you can find on eBay or something you're not going to get that good of deals because the legion go is relatively new and there aren't that many of them being sold they also aren't being very heavily discounted on sites like Best Buy or something on the other hand if you're willing to shop around used for a steam deck you can get a used LCD for I've seen them as cheap as 200 bucks because came out with the OLED model all of a sudden the used Market got flooded with LCD models so if you're willing to forgo some of the upgrades of the OLED model you can get a used LCD model for Crazy Cheap so if you're super budget conscious 100% the steam deck either LCD or OLED is the way to go the second reason is when you're going to use your handheld like a handheld and you're going to hold it in your hand and that's size and ergonomics I have extensively used both of these devices and in my personal opinion because ergonomics kind of are personal opinion the steam deck is remarkably more comfortable to hold especially long term the legion go is bigger heavier the controllers don't feel as ergonomic to me and part of that is because the legion go has the FPS mode where you can take the controllers off and use one of them the right one as a mouse but that makes it less ergonomic when in handheld mode and that makes a big difference for me personally it means the legion go never really sat right in my hands and it always felt a little bit awkward and clunky whereas the Ste duck on the other hands feels super comfortable more like an Xbox or a PlayStation controller the third reason and this is probably the biggest and most divisive reason is because of the software support which is basically Steam OS versus Windows and I'm just going to be honest with you I have used several Windows handhelds I bought the rogg Ally I bought the Lenova Legion go and in my opinion windows on handhelds just isn't very good Windows doesn't have a very good mode for how you're supposed to operate a handheld that touch screens work okay the controllers work okay kind of but clearly Windows is not designed to be used in a handheld what that means is you're often going to be navigating menus with the touchscreen where it's an awkward place to use a touchcreen or using the onscreen keyboard where it's awkward to use an on-screen keyboard or there just so many things where Windows is kind of clunky in this form factor on the other hand Steam OS is built tailor made for the steam deck and it runs perfectly your experience on a steam deck is going to be much closer to something like a PlayStation on or an Xbox whereas on the legion go Windows while it does have a lot of its pluses a lot of Pros it's user experience is going to be a lot more like a PC which means you have to do a lot more of your driver updates and software updates and things can just be a little bit trickier to use now that does mean you'll have access to more games on Windows which is a huge Plus for Windows handhelds but it's just to say while Windows does have its advantages it also really has its disadvantages Lenovo does have their own software that's supposed to help mitigate this problem of using Windows in a handheld mode and it does work okay but in my experience it was nowhere near as seamless as what the steam deck can offer so if you're someone who doesn't really like tinkering the steam deck is going to give you a more seamless experience straight out of the box and if you're going to pick up a steam deck you're going to want to carry it around with you and my favorite way to carry it around is today's sponsor Tom talk and their EDC sling bag this bag has been totally designed around the steam deck so it perfectly slots in your steam deck and you can fit your Kindle and your airpod or whatever other accessories that you have and it fits really nicely it looks Chic and modern and because it's water resistant you don't have to worry about ruining your steam deck because you're walking outside in the rain the sling bag also has these really cool rotatable straps so it's super easy to throw the bag behind you and then bring it back because it can just rotate so it doesn't get all twisted up it's pretty nice it's one of those little things where I didn't think it would make that big of a difference but it actually is way more convenient especially if you're going on an airline or something and you're constantly getting in and out of your bag it just makes it way more convenient so if you want to check out the sling bag I'll leave it in the link below and thanks again to Tom talk for sponsoring this video the fourth thing and this is actually one of the biggest things for me is battery life when I did sort of a worst case scenario for battery life where I'm testing Elden ring with the frame rate uncapped on both of these devices which is a AAA game and it's going to push both of these devices as hard as they really can be pushed on the Lenova Legion go I was getting about 1 hour of battery life which that sounds bad but that's actually better than the Rog Ally did in the same test but when I did that exact same test on the steam deck OLED I got about 2 and 1 half hours of battery life and that sounds kind of crazy but when you think about it it's not that surprising the steam deck and the legion go have the exact same physical battery size but the legion go can pull up to 30 watts in its custom mode whereas the steam deck can only pull up to 15 watts so it's no surprise that the steam deck has dramatically better battery life and if you're going to play games like indie games where you don't need that much horsepower you can lower the TDP on the steam deck and the steam deck performs much better at lower tdps than the legion go does so if you're looking to squeak out the most battery life 100% the steam deck OLED is Miles Ahead of the Legion go a caveat to this battery life section would be that although the steam deck does get better battery life the legion go is getting better performance but I'm not doing why you should buy a legion go this is why you should buy a steam deck so ignore that and the fifth and final reason why you should buy a steam deck over a legion go is the community support and ease of use and what do I mean by that the steam deck is sort of the darling of the handheld industry right now which means it gets a ton of support from its Community from things like software where you have stuff like Dei coming out which is a community built plugin that adds a ton of useful features to the steam deck or even things like buying cases or skins or Hardware modifications the steam deck has a ton available all it takes is one click on Amazon and you're going to see you can buy a ton of different accessories for for your steam deck and while the legion go does have some accessories and some software that's made by the community it has nowhere near the same Community size nor the same Community engagement so it's just not supported in the same way and if we go one step higher out this is just me theorizing here but I'd be willing to bet that the steam deck is going to get software support from valve for a lot longer than the legion go is going to get software support from Lenovo that's just a hunch I don't know that that's true but Val has put a lot of eggs in their handheld basket and Lenovo still has all their laptops and their PC business and all those things and I don't think they're willing to put as much time and support into the software for the legion go as valve is that's just my opinion I could be wrong let me know if you think I'm wrong in the comment section below but so far I've seen it in the amount of software updates and Bug fixes that come out to each device the steam deck is just constantly getting better and better and while the legion go has had some improvements especially since launch day it hasn't had the same revolutionary software speed that the steam deck has all right so those are my five reasons why I think you should buy a steam deck OLED over a legion go if you think I'm wrong let me know in the comment section below and please be civil about it let's keep this civil again like I said earlier it's not that I'm a legion hater or I think it's a bad device I've already made a video on this exact thing but in reverse on why you should buy a legion but I'm curious to see what you guys think do you prefer the steam deck OLED or do you prefer the legion go they're both really I don't think you can make a wrong decision here it's more what would be better or worse for your specific use cases and that can be tricky to answer all right if you have any questions let me know in the comment section below and I'll try to get to them I've been Sam and I'll see you guys in the next one peace
