[Music] foreign [Music] hey Rob Latham with compact holsters here I've got Daniel and I want to show you what you're looking for in gripping the gun when the gun's in the holster a lot of people do it wrong and a lot of it's because the equipment isn't set up right so go ahead and draw your gun and show me empty probably get holster up so the process of moving to the gun there are two directions you basically can either come from the scoop draw from the bottom and come up which I don't propose most people should do and the other one is downloaded because I like the contact point in my hand to start between the web of my thumb and my trigger finger and the back of the gun an established a position a lot of people can't get a good grip in the holster and a lot of times it's because the way the holster is set up one of the great things about the modularity and being able to change hangers and get different positions and move it around on the belt is you can adjust it one of the worst things is that people adjust them wrong so let's check out what your setup here is down so why are we starting the same way let's just basically look at the positioning where it's at look forward so your body's in the right position so now let your hands hang hang naturally to the side put your hand on the gun though so I'm always looking for the position of where I would want his shoulder to move so if you watch go ahead and put your hand back down his shoulder right now when he draws go ahead and do it see how his shoulder has to rotate up and back that's not bad but if you notice when I do it this motion occurs right that's about all that happens so right now I'd say he's got his gun a little further rearward on the Belt than would be perfect now there is always a compromise like I'm set up here basically as a competition setup so I'm going to have the gun a little farther forward I don't care if it gets in the way of things because I'm all about the speed and the consistency of the grip he might have moved it back and down to get it out of his way because say he's operating primarily with a carbine or a rifle at that point we want to get the gun out of the way but the draw stays the same so Hand goes down okay come on to the gun so once you've established a grip you want to always make sure if possible there's room for your thumb no you're perfect you want your thumb to have room to clear between whatever part of the hanger of the holster or the body of the holster there is even if you're you're taking off a release mechanism like on a ct3 that's the position your thumb goes through to actually release the mechanism so then your hand is fundamentally in the proper position his height is good on the gun because his shoulder isn't cocked up and forward to give room for his elbow and his and his wrist so his wrist is in almost a straight line through to the gun that's good because what you don't want is this like imagine your gun was set up in this position which right A lot of people set them up like this so see what's happened to his wrist it's broken and he can't even get a proper grip so if I go ahead and put it back in so in that position if you look there's a straight line down his hand into the ejection part of the gun that's perfect so let's practice the the draw has multiple components to it the most important is your initial contact with the gun because it's hard if you grab the gun incorrectly like if I grab it low I can't get the safety off of this guy want your hand to be in the right place wedged all the way up into the to the firm part between uh the the thumb and your trigger finger up against the web there so go ahead and do a draw where you just get the gun out of the hole the motion's pretty good do it again okay so now go to the gun quickly see a lot of people think the trick on the draw is to be slow and smooth yeah the problem is that's slow I don't care about the smooth part I care about what if he had to draw fast I don't need to teach you how to draw slowly you know how to do it you grab the gun you make a nice grip and you move around you're comfortable and you draw the gun that's not what I need out of him I mean I need him to get the gun out of the holster quickly this is where the holster makes a big difference so go ahead and draw again so see how that time he snatched the gun out of the holster that's what we're looking for do it again we're gonna speed up a motion put your hand on the gun so actually take your hand go into this position practice this motion you have to do it again so just the speed everything that's Speedy about a draw occurs in this area what happens out here is something else that's presentation doesn't matter this part needs to be quick so start with your hand above okay and snaps the gun out of the hole perfect so that is the definition of a fast draw now the next thing you look for is how long they hesitate before they move to the gun so right now I'm setting them up in a position of of perfection so he starts right there so it's really easy at that point to do this on the draw to make a nice quick snatch motion right but if he stands here in the puzzle and goes beep or whatever happens it means you need to draw and you go like oh I think I'll move slow and then do this it's completely lost that you actually drew the gun quicker so now we're going to work on the movement two on and then draw the gun so literally do this that's all I want to do yep faster to the gun s get yourself set first right and then go faster again see how he's kind of sneaking up if you watch that on slow-mo his hand comes from behind and that's okay by itself part of that's because the gun's a little bit back around behind him so probably that's okay let's leave it there let's say it needs to be in that position I don't want everybody watching this going like oh I can't move everything around to the position where it's perfect for a competition shooter and you're right you can't so I'm fine with this but we got to change his arms angle or his hands half see how his hand is forward to the gun that means it has to come back and that's okay because what if your draw came from a hand position up let's go do a transfer like you're shooting carpet you're going from here now go to the gun we'll see how he's getting lost with his thumb is coming in and you watch that that's better so he's got to learn where's the position you really need your hand to go to behind and forward right even like from here you did it perfect you went from here and went back but you went here back and forward I'm fine with that here you have to do the same thing so your hand ax actually go back and forward yes do that again do it 5 000 times see how smooth that is see how quick that is so does your hand feel like it's going back and forward and you're doing it right if it feels like that because even if you're doing a concealed draw where you had a cover garment that you were using an exposed holster but a cover garment that's the lotion your arm would make it would go here and clear and cut it to learn that motion yep do it again okay now go to the point where you draw the gun out of the hole the whole process faster you know the trick to doing a fast dry right is go fast but it's but it's hard so that's why we've come up with things like slow is smooth and smooth as easy and easy as fast and Fast and Slow or whatever they really are remember that position so your hands are wanting to come down and find it so it your hand is telling you where it Wishes the gun was but you should learn after one or two repetitions that the gun's not where you want it to be it's where it is so let's say instead of coming to where go to the gun position let's say you go to your attack position from here feel that so go that far back so when you come back when your hand goes from the transposition it actually goes no further back it goes to here yes it's gonna feel funny but do it because what right now you come straight down onto the gun he does this one and actually attacks attacks the bottom of the Tang of the gun more than it does the grip come back more back and forward back and forward yep okay most of this is just muscle memory his arm position is pretty much perfect okay so you're gonna go to the draw go ahead and do the same thing the draw do it again so instead of being slow on again draw fast so the condition the circumstance we're dealing with is this which is stupid that I'm right here and the way that you're standing there trying to have a stand oh I saw a stand and shoot with you this is stupid let's say I'm here and about ready to attack you and grab you you know what won't work smooth and slow so what point do you have to do or what do you have to have now speed speed go fast do it again I like the hand position you're going to you're just not there it was you're just not used to coming up on the bottom of the but on this part of the gun used to coming right above and the problem with that is sometimes you're here he's going straight onto the gun sometimes you're here sometimes you're here yes such a subtle little difference yeah yes yes yes yes yes see the boy can learn do it again all the way to your presentations as soon as you have a component what happens something else falls apart that's why we have to do so many repetitions this is one of the few things you can do as far as shooting where dry firing is just as good as life firing to learn a technique foreign that's the one I'm looking for perfect so the motion isn't necessarily straight to the gun is it no it's back first right and I like that because then you'll never miss I could change the gun that could be a different style gun so you're not so finely tuned to one single little position what happens if this gun for whatever your body position or whatever is turned or something and the gun was further back you'd still get it it was further for you you'd still get it so that's that draw stroke and that angle that your hand's moving at is the best for the Tactical shooter because that point he's always going to find the bottom of the gun okay draw all the way to the look pretty good hope you got that one he did a couple of them right there so now it becomes an issue of repetition and I don't know how many so tell me in your brain what you're thinking of doing there's only one I know there's only one thing just focusing on going backwards yeah you know you can't go too far back too far back will be slow Ed up with a good thing you still end up with a good grip because you're attacking the gun perfect Daniel everybody Daniel
