Unknown we'll end the whole video with which methods
may be best for your trip. 00;01;01;07 - 00;01;02;06
Unknown let's jump right in. 00;01;02;06 - 00;01;03;28
Unknown Here's a quick overview of the system. 00;01;03;28 - 00;01;06;06
Unknown So where is Athens, Greece, located 00;01;06;06 - 00;01;12;25
Unknown in this video? I'm not talking about Athens, Georgia, or
Athens, Alabama, or even Athens, California. 00;01;12;25 - 00;01;21;18
Unknown I'm talking about Athens, Greece, located
on the south east side of the country. It is the capital and the largest city of
Greece. 00;01;21;18 - 00;01;22;10
Unknown There are over 00;01;22;10 - 00;01;24;02
Unknown 6,000 islands and 00;01;24;02 - 00;01;25;15
Unknown 13 administrative regions 00;01;25;15 - 00;01;29;24
Unknown in Greece. Athens is specifically located in the Attica
region. 00;01;29;24 - 00;01;33;13
Unknown Keep this in mind for future videos, because
I may reference this at some point. 00;01;33;13 - 00;01;37;22
Unknown The Attica region is divided into eight regional
units or districts. 00;01;37;22 - 00;01;43;22
Unknown There's north Athens, east Attica, south Athens,
west Athens, central Athens, Piraeus, and the Islands. 00;01;43;28 - 00;01;45;05
Unknown You will find Athens 00;01;45;05 - 00;01;47;06
Unknown in the central region. 00;01;47;06 - 00;01;56;06
Unknown Within Athens there are many neighborhoods,
each with its own charm and appeal, such as Kolonaki, which is an elegant and trendy area
with high end boutiques. 00;01;56;06 - 00;02;03;01
Unknown There's Monastiraki, which is a historic area
where it's your main shopping district, your flea markets and it’s centrally located. 00;02;03;01 - 00;02;06;02
Unknown Plaka is the oldest district and it's popular
for visitors. 00;02;06;02 - 00;02;14;14
Unknown It's charming and picturesque and a little
bit crowded. Psirri is artsy, bohemian and the Acropolis,
which is obvious, it has the Acropolis. 00;02;14;14 - 00;02;17;28
Unknown There are multiple types of transportation
available in Athens. 00;02;17;28 - 00;02;22;05
Unknown There is a metro bus, a tram, a trolley, a
train, 00;02;22;05 - 00;02;25;19
Unknown taxis, and Uber or free now. Ride share services 00;02;25;19 - 00;02;29;08
Unknown So there are plenty of ways to get around
Athens on a budget. 00;02;29;08 - 00;02;30;29
Unknown No matter what your budget is, whether it's 00;02;30;29 - 00;02;32;12
Unknown $5 or 5000, 00;02;32;12 - 00;02;33;13
Unknown there's a method for you 00;02;33;13 - 00;02;37;04
Unknown and we'll talk in detail more about each of
those later in this video. 00;02;37;04 - 00;02;44;07
Unknown As you learn to navigate around the city of
Athens, you'll notice the following transportation services and acronyms. So pay attention 00;02;44;07 - 00;02;54;22
Unknown Public transportation is ran by the Athens
Urban Transport Organization, or O.A.S.A. It's a company that issues the ATH.ENA Public
transportation products that we're going to talk about in this video. 00;02;54;22 - 00;02;59;08
Unknown There's the Urban Rail Transport or STASY,
which operates the metro and trams. 00;02;59;08 - 00;03;04;04
Unknown There's also the Road Transport, OSY, which
operates the busses and trolleys 00;03;04;04 - 00;03;06;10
Unknown and the Hellenic Railways Organization 00;03;06;10 - 00;03;07;10
Unknown Train OSCE. 00;03;07;16 - 00;03;11;09
Unknown It's a suburban railway that runs trains to
and from Greece. 00;03;11;09 - 00;03;14;09
Unknown Now that we know a little bit about how Athens
is laid out, 00;03;14;09 - 00;03;18;06
Unknown the different forms of transportation, and
the helpful service acronyms. 00;03;18;06 - 00;03;28;09
Unknown Now let's talk about how to get around Athens
on a budget. So get your pen, get your paper, get your
phone ready to take notes, or you can just click the blog link in the description box
down below 00;03;28;09 - 00;03;29;12
Unknown if you don't feel like taking notes, 00;03;29;12 - 00;03;32;23
Unknown So how do you get around Athens on a budget? 00;03;32;23 - 00;03;37;12
Unknown from my personal experience, the best way
to get around Athens on a budget 00;03;37;12 - 00;03;39;00
Unknown and without a car 00;03;39;00 - 00;03;48;19
Unknown is to walk. Yes, walk. We walked everywhere on our trip and we honestly
didn't even really need to take public transportation because we stayed in Monastiraki 00;03;48;19 - 00;03;57;06
Unknown which is centrally located and within about
a 10 to 20 minute walk from just about everything the Acropolis, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. 00;03;57;06 - 00;03;57;24
Unknown We 00;03;57;24 - 00;03;58;10
Unknown walked 00;03;58;10 - 00;03;59;10
Unknown everywhere. 00;03;59;10 - 00;04;06;11
Unknown And once you get from the airport to the city
center, Athens is an incredibly walkable city. 00;04;06;11 - 00;04;18;29
Unknown If you're able, I recommend walking to get
to your destination. It's free, it's good exercise, and a great
way to see the city is to see it on foot. Walking is the best way to get around Athens,
Greece on a budget. 00;04;18;29 - 00;04;22;27
Unknown So get those walking shoes ready and have
a great time. 00;04;22;27 - 00;04;29;13
Unknown In addition to walking, you can also take
public transportation. Public transportation in Athens is easy to
use and it's reliable. 00;04;29;13 - 00;04;36;02
Unknown If you're looking to get around Athens on
a budget, it is an efficient way to cover a lot of ground for a small price. 00;04;36;02 - 00;04;39;09
Unknown If you decide to take public transportation,
here's some useful information. 00;04;39;23 - 00;04;45;02
Unknown Generally, all forms of public transportation
that I'll list in this section operate every day 00;04;45;02 - 00;04;48;01
Unknown 5:30 a.m. to midnight, and Fridays and Saturdays 00;04;48;01 - 00;04;49;14
Unknown until about 1:30 a.m. 00;04;49;14 - 00;04;58;10
Unknown You can buy tickets for public transportation
at the counters of the Metro station, select bus stations, or via automatic vending machines. 00;04;58;10 - 00;05;03;07
Unknown Credit card and cash up to €20 are accepted,
but don't bring anything higher than €20. 00;05;03;07 - 00;05;07;18
Unknown You can also load your tickets and passes
on the ATH.ENA TICKET or the ATH.ENA CARD. 00;05;07;18 - 00;05;10;23
Unknown So what exactly is an Athena ticket or an
Athena card? 00;05;10;23 - 00;05;13;22
Unknown An Athena ticket, also known as a “multiple
ticket” 00;05;13;22 - 00;05;20;25
Unknown is a reloadable paper fare card. And it's best use if you're visiting Athens
for less than 30 days. And this video is going to 00;05;20;25 - 00;05;23;03
Unknown specifically talk about visiting less than
30 days. 00;05;23;05 - 00;05;32;07
Unknown So we won't get into the longer cards, which
is the ATH.ENA CARD. It's a reloadable plastic card that can hold
up to €50 in value for a long term pass. It comes 00;05;32;07 - 00;05;32;26
Unknown in two forms, 00;05;32;26 - 00;05;34;27
Unknown anonymous and personalized. 00;05;34;27 - 00;05;35;22
Unknown Anonymous is 00;05;35;22 - 00;05;46;05
Unknown for those who regularly use public transportation
over a consistent amount of time, it could be short term or long term, but generally
they're made for people who have multiple passes on their products 00;05;46;05 - 00;05;52;20
Unknown And the personal card requires your personal
data like a photo, a valid state ID number, and is intended for those 00;05;52;20 - 00;05;53;06
Unknown staying longer 00;05;53;06 - 00;05;53;29
Unknown than 30 days. 00;05;53;29 - 00;05;57;29
Unknown Again, we'll focus on just these quick trips
for visitors 00;05;57;29 - 00;06;00;20
Unknown If you take public transportation, you also
want to know that you have to 00;06;00;20 - 00;06;02;08
Unknown validate your ticket or you will pay 00;06;02;08 - 00;06;06;01
Unknown a hefty €72 fine if you don't. 00;06;06;01 - 00;06;07;04
Unknown Always validate your ticket. 00;06;07;04 - 00;06;09;28
Unknown And now that we have that out of the way,
let's talk specifics. 00;06;09;28 - 00;06;15;02
Unknown One way to get around Athens on a budget using
public transportation is to take the metro. 00;06;15;02 - 00;06;16;00
Unknown There are three 00;06;16;00 - 00;06;19;12
Unknown color coded metro lines labeled M-1 to M3. 00;06;19;12 - 00;06;24;01
Unknown There's green, which is M1, red, which is
M2 and blue, which is M3. 00;06;24;01 - 00;06;26;05
Unknown And that blue line will take you to and from
the airport. 00;06;26;05 - 00;06;28;12
Unknown But again, we'll talk about that a little
later in this video. 00;06;28;12 - 00;06;36;23
Unknown The Athens metro runs every 5 to 10 minutes. And to ride the metro, you have to purchase
your fare first, then validate your ticket on entry 00;06;36;23 - 00;06;37;18
Unknown and exit. 00;06;37;18 - 00;06;42;05
Unknown Validate your ticket on the right and you
walk through on your left, remember, validate 00;06;42;05 - 00;06;43;00
Unknown your ticket or 00;06;43;00 - 00;06;43;22
Unknown pay a fine. 00;06;43;22 - 00;06;45;24
Unknown I'll also link to the metro 00;06;45;24 - 00;06;50;10
Unknown map in my blog, so don't forget to check that
out. So you'll have that handy when you're visiting
Athens. 00;06;50;10 - 00;07;02;22
Unknown In addition to the metro, you can take the
bus, the tram or the trolley. There are over 60 bus routes that run every
10 to 15 minutes. Unlike the metro, you just have to validate
your ticket on entry only you don't have to validate your ticket on exit. 00;07;02;22 - 00;07;03;28
Unknown There are two trams, 00;07;03;28 - 00;07;07;24
Unknown T6 and T7, that make 48 total stops around
the city. 00;07;07;24 - 00;07;11;07
Unknown Honestly, you'll probably either just walk
or take the metro 00;07;11;07 - 00;07;12;04
Unknown for the most part. 00;07;12;04 - 00;07;20;08
Unknown But now that you know the different forms
of transportation that you can take, let's talk about the different tickets that you
can purchase to load onto your ATH.ENA ticket or card. 00;07;20;11 - 00;07;23;27
Unknown There are single tickets and there are unlimited
trip tickets. 00;07;23;27 - 00;07;27;10
Unknown First, let's start with these single ride
tickets that you can purchase. 00;07;27;10 - 00;07;32;01
Unknown One ticket is €1.20. That's incredibly cheap and is valid for 00;07;32;01 - 00;07;40;27
Unknown a 90 minute journey on any form of the public
transportation except to and from the airport. So the metro, the bus, tram, the trolley is
one ride, €1.20. 00;07;40;27 - 00;07;44;03
Unknown You could also purchase ticket packs, which
is a group of single tickets. 00;07;44;03 - 00;07;46;06
Unknown You can purchase a two ticket pack 00;07;46;06 - 00;07;53;06
Unknown for €2.30, a five ticket pack for a €5,
70 or ten tickets and a bonus for €12. 00;07;53;06 - 00;08;00;28
Unknown Incredibly cheap. You can also buy a single ride on the express
busses, which I'll talk about a little bit later when we talk about airport transportation. 00;08;01;04 - 00;08;02;16
Unknown Those are €5.50. 00;08;02;16 - 00;08;04;04
Unknown And remember, these single tickets do 00;08;04;04 - 00;08;04;10
Unknown not 00;08;04;10 - 00;08;08;23
Unknown include Airport Metro or the Express bus unless
indicated. 00;08;08;23 - 00;08;14;02
Unknown There are also unlimited travel tickets. You can get a daily ticket for €4.10 that
is 00;08;14;02 - 00;08;14;10
Unknown not 00;08;14;10 - 00;08;16;24
Unknown valid for the x80 bus to the airport. 00;08;16;24 - 00;08;23;01
Unknown There's also a three day tourist passport
for Unlimited 80 bus line and an airport round trip, 00;08;23;01 - 00;08;23;29
Unknown metro ticket. 00;08;23;29 - 00;08;25;24
Unknown And that is €20. 00;08;25;24 - 00;08;28;14
Unknown Or you can get a five day pass for €8, 20. 00;08;28;14 - 00;08;31;04
Unknown Those are pretty much it for the public transportation
tickets in Athens. 00;08;31;04 - 00;08;32;23
Unknown So is there an Uber in Athens? 00;08;32;23 - 00;08;36;08
Unknown Does Athens have Uber or taxis or ride sharing
apps? 00;08;36;08 - 00;08;36;20
Unknown Well, 00;08;36;20 - 00;08;37;01
Unknown yes. 00;08;37;01 - 00;08;38;20
Unknown Uber is available in Athens 00;08;38;20 - 00;08;42;16
Unknown as well as a European app FREENOW, which is
like an Uber. 00;08;42;18 - 00;08;43;14
Unknown Taxi rides are 00;08;43;14 - 00;08;45;10
Unknown really, really affordable. 00;08;45;10 - 00;08;47;24
Unknown I'm saying Uber. I'm saying taxi. So which is it? 00;08;47;24 - 00;08;50;10
Unknown And I typically don't say this, and in fact,
I have 00;08;50;10 - 00;08;51;13
Unknown never ever 00;08;51;13 - 00;08;56;10
Unknown said this in a transportation video before,
and I've made videos on how to get around 00;08;56;10 - 00;09;00;02
Unknown Paris and Rome and London, Miami, Chicago,
Barcelona, 00;09;00;02 - 00;09;01;23
Unknown those links will be the description box below. 00;09;01;25 - 00;09;04;20
Unknown So this may come as a shock to the Frolic
& Courage family, 00;09;04;20 - 00;09;05;06
Unknown but taking 00;09;05;06 - 00;09;09;22
Unknown taxi is an easy, affordable way to get around
Athens on a budget. 00;09;10;01 - 00;09;12;00
Unknown I said it, I said it. 00;09;12;00 - 00;09;15;00
Unknown Taking a taxi is an affordable way to get
around 00;09;15;00 - 00;09;21;19
Unknown and know that when you use an Uber in Athens,
it will actually summon an official taxi, not a regular person driving their regular
car. 00;09;21;19 - 00;09;30;16
Unknown So how much is an Uber? Or rather, how much is a taxi in Athens? Taxis start at €1.80 with a €4.00 minimum
no matter the distance. 00;09;30;16 - 00;09;35;02
Unknown At this price, it is a very affordable way
to get around Athens for shorter distances. 00;09;35;02 - 00;09;36;20
Unknown As long as traffic is light 00;09;36;20 - 00;09;39;06
Unknown a trip within the city will run you under
€6. 00;09;39;06 - 00;09;52;00
Unknown I mean, we took a taxi a few times and during
our trip and each time we got it coordinated by either the restaurant staff or a hotel
staff. So there were no language barriers or anything
like that. And it was a fast, affordable way to get around
Athens on a budget. 00;09;52;00 - 00;09;56;07
Unknown Other than taxis or public transportation,
should you rent a car or drive in Athens? 00;09;56;07 - 00;09;57;08
Unknown What about parking? 00;09;57;08 - 00;09;58;05
Unknown You can drive, 00;09;58;05 - 00;09;59;19
Unknown but honestly, parking is terrible. 00;09;59;19 - 00;10;00;12
Unknown Don't do it. 00;10;00;12 - 00;10;02;00
Unknown I don't recommend you doing it. 00;10;02;00 - 00;10;10;01
Unknown It’s easy enough to get around Athens by
walking or by taking public transportation. And there's honestly no need to rent a car
unless you absolutely have to. 00;10;10;01 - 00;10;13;15
Unknown So now that you know the ticket types and
to put your tickets on an ATH.ENA CARD, 00;10;13;15 - 00;10;17;24
Unknown I'm but you're probably wondering how do I
get from Athens airport to the city center. 00;10;17;24 - 00;10;18;22
Unknown It's pretty easy 00;10;18;22 - 00;10;20;28
Unknown but requires a special airport ticket. 00;10;20;28 - 00;10;24;11
Unknown You could take the metro, the bus or of course,
summon a taxi. 00;10;24;11 - 00;10;26;01
Unknown Let's first start with the Metro. 00;10;26;01 - 00;10;30;02
Unknown This is what we did. And it's also what you saw in my Athens vlogs. 00;10;30;02 - 00;10;34;05
Unknown The metro from the airport to the city center
of Athens takes around 40 minutes. 00;10;34;05 - 00;10;42;01
Unknown Your tickets are valid from 90 minutes and
you can transfer to the tram bus, but not one of those airport express busses to your
final destination. 00;10;42;01 - 00;10;42;07
Unknown So 00;10;42;07 - 00;10;48;05
Unknown the metro runs every 36 minutes from about
6:10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on a specific timetable. 00;10;48;05 - 00;10;55;08
Unknown It costs about €9 one way €16 two ways,
or you can purchase a three day tourist ticket I mentioned for €20 00;10;55;08 - 00;10;59;09
Unknown So how do you get to the city center via metro
from the airport. You want to take 00;10;59;09 - 00;11;06;15
Unknown Metro line three because it connects directly
from the airport to Syntagma and a lot of the most popular stops in Athens. 00;11;06;15 - 00;11;10;08
Unknown So once you get off the plane after you go
through customs, follow all the signs 00;11;10;08 - 00;11;12;07
Unknown to ground transportation and baggage claim. 00;11;12;07 - 00;11;13;19
Unknown Once you get to the baggage claim area 00;11;13;19 - 00;11;15;12
Unknown You're going to look for signs that say, 00;11;15;12 - 00;11;17;07
Unknown exit the airport, “to trains.” 00;11;17;07 - 00;11;25;07
Unknown You're going to walk across the street, pass
all the taxis and follow the signs that say “to trains” until you reach elevators
and you're going to take that elevator to the first floor. 00;11;25;07 - 00;11;29;14
Unknown You're going to go across the walkway to the
metro station and there you can buy your passes. 00;11;29;16 - 00;11;39;03
Unknown You've got three options for your passes. That airport ticket for the bus for 90 minutes. You've got the metro tickets for €9 to €11
for 90 minutes. And there you have it. 00;11;39;03 - 00;11;40;11
Unknown Of course, you're going to 00;11;40;11 - 00;11;44;13
Unknown scan your pass, walk through the gate and
be wary of gate hoppers 00;11;44;13 - 00;11;46;15
Unknown because they really do exist. 00;11;46;15 - 00;11;49;15
Unknown you're going to go down two flights of escalators,
stairs. 00;11;49;15 - 00;12;01;03
Unknown Once you go down those escalators or those
stairs, you just sit on the train. There's only one train going towards Nikia
on that metro line three blue line. There are luggage racks available, space for
your carry on, 00;12;01;03 - 00;12;02;24
Unknown and seating is pretty much spaced out. 00;12;03;02 - 00;12;09;25
Unknown It's a 45 minute ride and you can exit at
the Syntagma Square station or the Monastiraki station and that's it. You're done. 00;12;09;25 - 00;12;14;02
Unknown That's how you get from the Athens airport
to the city center via metro. 00;12;14;02 - 00;12;19;11
Unknown Like I mentioned before, beware of metro jumpers
who will squeeze through the turnstiles with you. 00;12;19;11 - 00;12;21;04
Unknown We've had some people try that on us 00;12;21;04 - 00;12;27;18
Unknown and honestly, like we are not together. I don't want to be seen as aiding and abetting
these Metro theft schemes. 00;12;27;18 - 00;12;38;03
Unknown So as you're going to the metro from the airport,
just watch your back to make sure nobody tries to jump in with you on your ticket and make
it look like you're together when you're really not doing anything illegal. 00;12;38;03 - 00;12;43;08
Unknown Aside from the metro, you can take the bus. You can take a city bus or an airport express
bus. 00;12;43;08 - 00;12;56;17
Unknown I would recommend the Airport Express bus,
but all the busses run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every 30 minutes, and directly
connect the airport to the Syntagma, Piraeus, and a couple of other inner city stops. 00;12;56;19 - 00;13;01;07
Unknown The Express busses have an “x” before
the bus route number. On the bus. 00;13;01;07 - 00;13;11;19
Unknown Your ticket is valid for one trip and you
can purchase this express bus ticket from the vendors or on the bus directly. I prefer if you have exact cash, but again,
nothing more than €20. 00;13;11;19 - 00;13;14;07
Unknown There are a number of express busses that
you can take 00;13;14;07 - 00;13;19;00
Unknown with the Airport Express bus to the city center
of Athens is bus x95, 00;13;19;00 - 00;13;19;11
Unknown which will 00;13;19;11 - 00;13;22;18
Unknown lead you to Syntagma Square and take about
one hour. 00;13;22;18 - 00;13;29;17
Unknown There's also bus x96 to the cruise port x93
to different stations, x97 to a different metro. 00;13;29;17 - 00;13;36;00
Unknown But x95 is your Airport Express bus to Syntagma
Square in the city center of Athens. 00;13;36;00 - 00;13;43;22
Unknown The tickets cost only €5.50 for one way. You can pay cash or credit card via the kiosk
or cash on the bus. 00;13;43;22 - 00;13;45;21
Unknown But again, nothing greater than €20. 00;13;45;21 - 00;13;46;26
Unknown try to have exact change, 00;13;46;26 - 00;13;50;29
Unknown How do you get from Athens airport to the
city center via that express bus? 00;13;50;29 - 00;14;02;26
Unknown the airport, once you go through customs,
you're going to follow signs that say “to busses” and walk to the ground floor arrivals
level between exits four and five. You're going to take bus x95 to Syntagma Square 00;14;02;26 - 00;14;07;10
Unknown The bus will drop you from Othonos street
in Syntagma Square in front of the Euro Bank. 00;14;07;10 - 00;14;16;16
Unknown So you're going to be dropped off right at
Syntagma Square. And from there you can either walk to your
hotel or your accommodations or take a short taxi or jump on the metro. 00;14;16;16 - 00;14;17;14
Unknown It's up to you. 00;14;17;14 - 00;14;23;24
Unknown You can also take a ride sharing service to
and from the airport to the city center of Athens. Now, if you take a taxi or an Uber or a 00;14;23;24 - 00;14;29;24
Unknown FREENOW it's going to cost you €40 to €60
depending on the time of day, and it will take about 45 minutes to an hour. 00;14;29;24 - 00;14;33;25
Unknown If you're going to take a taxi, you have to
ask if the taxi takes credit cards 00;14;33;25 - 00;14;36;05
Unknown before you jump in and throw all your bags
in 00;14;36;05 - 00;14;39;29
Unknown and y’all, cash is king so try to have some
euros on hand with you. 00;14;39;29 - 00;14;43;29
Unknown Similar to the Metro, you're going to follow
the signs to the trains. 00;14;43;29 - 00;14;49;10
Unknown right before you cross that street, there
is going to be a slew of yellow taxis waiting for you. 00;14;49;10 - 00;14;58;13
Unknown We actually took a taxi on our way back from
Athens to the airport, and it was about €50/€55. We had a 2 a.m. 00;14;58;13 - 00;15;01;09
Unknown call time at the airport for a flight that
left at 5 a.m.. 00;15;01;09 - 00;15;05;05
Unknown it was hilarious because as soon as our hotel
called that taxi, our driver came. 00;15;05;05 - 00;15;07;16
Unknown He was so friendly and so nice. But 00;15;07;16 - 00;15;10;02
Unknown I don't know where he got this from, but maybe
it's experience? 00;15;10;02 - 00;15;13;29
Unknown as soon as we got in, he could tell we had,
you know, U.S. accents and he's like, 00;15;13;29 - 00;15;15;13
Unknown “you guys are Americans, right?!” And 00;15;15;13 - 00;15;15;23
Unknown we're like, 00;15;15;23 - 00;15;16;19
Unknown “yeah, we're Americans.” 00;15;16;19 - 00;15;16;27
Unknown He's like, 00;15;16;27 - 00;15;21;22
Unknown “All right! Americans like to go fast. Europeans don't like to go fast, but I will
get you to the airport fast!” 00;15;21;24 - 00;15;24;02
Unknown And boy, did we get there fast. 00;15;24;02 - 00;15;30;14
Unknown I mean, we had our seatbelts locked in tightly
because this guy was flying through the streets. 00;15;30;14 - 00;15;37;17
Unknown And I'm so glad nobody was on the road because,
I mean, we got to the airport and, you know, instead of 45 minutes to an hour in like 30
minutes 00;15;37;17 - 00;15;38;21
Unknown with our lives intact. 00;15;38;21 - 00;15;41;24
Unknown but we got there - no problems, no issues, 00;15;42;22 - 00;15;46;05
Unknown and it was just fine. So you can take a taxi just know it's going
to cost 00;15;46;05 - 00;15;50;21
Unknown more than the different transportation methods
that I mentioned, but it is available 00;15;50;21 - 00;15;53;12
Unknown and you might have a thrilling experience
out of it too, like we did. 00;15;53;12 - 00;16;03;01
Unknown I also mentioned that you can go from the
Athens airport to the cruise ports if you want to catch a cruise. I didn't personally do this, but let me give
you some advice on how to do it. 00;16;03;01 - 00;16;11;02
Unknown The cruise port is about 28 miles or 45 minutes
from the airport and about 20 to 30 minutes away from central Athens, up to an hour with
traffic. 00;16;11;09 - 00;16;17;22
Unknown So just make sure you leave early just in
case there's any additional traffic or strikes or any number of things happen. 00;16;17;22 - 00;16;21;15
Unknown Public transportation will drop you off nearby
the ports. Then you will have to 00;16;21;15 - 00;16;22;20
Unknown walk from there. 00;16;22;20 - 00;16;37;03
Unknown For this reason, I recommend taking a taxi
or an Uber or FREENOW or coordinate transportation with your cruise line. This way you can order a car that will fit
all your luggage and it'll cost around €54 to €70. 00;16;37;03 - 00;16;42;17
Unknown But if you want to take your chances with
all your luggage, you can take the metro or bus. 00;16;42;17 - 00;16;47;26
Unknown If you're going to take the Metro, you exit
at the Piraeus metro stop. And then you've got to walk, from what I understand, 00;16;47;26 - 00;16;51;22
Unknown about a mile to the ports with your luggage. You can also take 00;16;51;22 - 00;17;03;26
Unknown that X80 Express bus to Piraeus, which also
stops at the Acropolis and Syntagma Square. It only operates between May and October every
35 to 40 minutes from 7 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. 00;17;03;26 - 00;17;05;12
Unknown It takes about 30 minutes 00;17;05;12 - 00;17;06;02
Unknown from the city 00;17;06;02 - 00;17;07;13
Unknown center to the port. 00;17;07;13 - 00;17;22;19
Unknown There are 16 stops that stop at major sites
like the planetarium, the Acropolis Museum, the Theater of Piraeus, the Modern National
Art Museum, etc., etc.. So you can take this bus when you are at the
cruise port to get to the city center. 00;17;22;19 - 00;17;25;04
Unknown And from when you are in the city center to
get back. 00;17;25;04 - 00;17;35;00
Unknown You can also take bus x96 from the Athens
airport to the port of Piraeus as well. And like I mentioned earlier, that takes about
an hour to an hour, 15 minutes. 00;17;35;00 - 00;17;37;26
Unknown just like you would take the bus from the
airport to the city center, 00;17;37;27 - 00;17;42;19
Unknown you follow those signs “to busses” and
then you jump on the appropriate bus. 00;17;42;19 - 00;17;47;29
Unknown now that you know the different ticket types,
how to get around Athens on a budget, the cost of those tickets 00;17;47;29 - 00;17;54;16
Unknown and how Athens is laid out, which ticket is
best for your trip to Athens? From my experience, honestly, I'd recommend 00;17;54;16 - 00;17;58;03
Unknown purchasing an airport ticket to get to the
city center and then walk around. 00;17;58;09 - 00;18;07;18
Unknown You can take an Uber or a FREENOW or a taxi
for longer distances if traffic is light and if you're pressed for time and you want to
see the major sites, There are also 00;18;07;18 - 00;18;10;25
Unknown bus tours and I'll link a few of those in
the description box down below. 00;18;10;25 - 00;18;20;16
Unknown But honestly, it really depends on your itinerary,
who you're traveling with, how mobile they are, how often you need to travel using public
transportation and your expectations. 00;18;20;16 - 00;18;24;10
Unknown I can't tell you what will work best for your
specific itinerary, 00;18;24;10 - 00;18;26;16
Unknown but once you have your itinerary set, 00;18;26;16 - 00;18;45;01
Unknown I recommend using Google Maps to determine
the best way to get from point A to point B and to figure out where those closest metro
stations are to what you want to do. And from there, if you see that there's a
lot of handy bus routes or metro routes, then I recommend buying a metro ticket or a bus
ticket or one of those ticket packs. 00;18;45;07 - 00;18;52;12
Unknown But if you find that the walking directions
are actually faster than any type of transportation, then you know, you just need to get from the 00;18;52;12 - 00;18;55;01
Unknown airport to the city center and then walk around
the city. 00;18;55;01 - 00;19;01;24
Unknown If you want a private airport transfer where
somebody will wait for you at the airport with the little signs You can also book one
of those, too. 00;19;01;24 - 00;19;04;20
Unknown I will also put a link to one of those in
the description box down below 00;19;04;20 - 00;19;09;17
Unknown The cost varies by the number of travelers,
but it's also a really comfortable experience. 00;19;09;17 - 00;19;18;19
Unknown As you've seen, there are a lot of great affordable
ways to get around Athens on a budget, so choose what's best for you and enjoy your
trip. 00;19;18;22 - 00;19;27;15
Unknown If you found this video helpful, please give

who's also going with you to Athens. 00;19;27;15 - 00;19;32;03
Unknown Thank you so much for watching. And I'll catch you in the next video where
you'll see exactly 00;19;32;03 - 00;19;36;02
Unknown what it's like traveling around Athens for
three days in my vlogs 00;19;36;02 - 00;19;40;19
Unknown you can also see where I ate in my Athens
playlist link at the end of this video. 00;19;40;19 - 00;19;48;02
Unknown I hope that this video helped you plan well,
have fun, and travel the world to Athens, Greece. I'll catch you in the next video, bye!
