How To Fold An Origami Dragon

hey art friends we're going to do another origami project today right checkers yeah what are we folding today a dragon [Music] all right checkers we got some origami paper don't we yeah for this art project if you don't have origami paper at home you can use regular printer paper and just cut it into a square before we start right origami paper is just a square and it's usually colored on one side and then white on the other right yeah you ready to start yeah all right checkers you get to use black paper yeah i'm going to use green paper how come you're using black paper because i want i'm going to do an ender dragon cool you're going to do an ender dragon from minecraft that sounds like a lot of fun all right you ready for the first step yeah okay first step is we're gonna fold our paper in half okay so we can flip it over so that the white paper or the white side is inside and we're gonna fold fold it in half there we go make sure it's all lined up nice nice and even right with the edges and then make sure those those uh folds are nice and crispy right crispy okay then we're gonna open up that fold and then we're gonna fold it the other direction in half same fold but just the other direction make sure it's lined up this dragon we'll leave a link i'll leave a link in the description where we found the instructions for this but this is the coolest thing this is the coolest dragon that i've ever seen and he's super easy too so i thought it would be fun to do all right so now i got it open back up we got a little plus in the middle now we're gonna flip it over and we're gonna fold it diagonally so we're gonna fold this corner up to the top like this so uh in origami there's um a lot of steps or a lot of uh projects that you can do they start with what's called a bird base so it's the base that you'll end up folding um for a lot of other it's the same steps you would start with for a lot of other projects and that's called a bird base and that's what we're folding right now okay so and i think it's called the bird base because a lot of times it's used for birds or flying things so i opened it back up and then we're going to do the same fold the other direction oops line that corner up make sure it's lined up so that all the other corners are lined up when you fold it there we go so now we should have it and if i'm going too fast our friends composite yeah but we'll have an x and also a plus and the way that we folded it will make it easy to fold this next step okay okay so we're going to kind of poke it up in the middle so that there we go so flip yours over and poke it the other direction so it's like mine there we go and then we're going to take the corners and fold them take the two outside corners fold them in like this and press this down so we have a diamond good job and then you want it to open down at the bottom awesome good job checkers okay ready for the next step yeah okay so we're gonna fold this edge right here to the middle of our model like that crease it down then we're going to fold this other edge on the other side to the middle just like that step squeaky fingers oh really squeaky [Laughter] super squeaky okay now we can fold this these are all going to be guide folds so we can fold this top down and that's going to help us with this next fold and then we can open it all back up now we're going to take this bottom flap right here and open it and then reverse those top ones so that you so that it will lay flat might need to kind of mess with it a little bit there we go but it should open up and lay flat like that there you go all right okay now we're gonna flip it over and we're gonna do the exact same thing on the other side okay okay so i'll go a little faster this time our friends composite if they need to but we're going to fold this edge to the middle and then fold the other edge to the middle also okay and then we're going to fold this top edge down or the top the top triangle down and that's going to be that gold of the guide fold again you're going fast huh then we're going to open it up and take that bottom flap open it towards the top and then reverse those folds at the top so that it will lay flat okay now that we got it flat like this we're gonna take this top flap and fold it down and you'll see the smaller one inside now we're gonna flip the whole thing over so it's on this side okay okay and then we're gonna take this side flap right here this is the wing we're gonna do our first wing okay so see how you can take it fold it up like this you can bring it up and then we can fold it straight down like that you know what we could also do is we can take this fold and get a guide fold in there so let's see if this works i'm going to fold it like this first and then open it back up and then we'll take this flap and then we can open the inside like that and then it will lay flat i'll do it slower on this other side okay for our friends so we're going to take this top this top flap right here we're going to fold the edge to line up right there and this is a guide fold do you got it okay let's hold it the same let's keep it the same way okay so we'll flip it around so that it's like you're like mine there we go and then that way we can look at it and then it matches right okay so we got the same thing so this is a guide fold so now we're gonna open it up there we go and then we can so we can fold it kind of back up to so that it's standing up right and then inside here we can take our finger open up that flap and then squish it down like that yes just like that good job awesome dude that's really cool okay so we got the two these are gonna be the two wings all right so now we can flip it over on this side and then we're going to fold this edge right here to the middle okay and this part is so it's going to be connected to the wing so when we fold it it's going to do some other things so we're going to take this edge and we'll start down at the bottom and watch when we start down at the bottom i'll show you what happens when we get to the top so we'll start down here make sure that it's folded in the middle and as we fold it up to the top it's going to want to lay flat so we just kind of make it work if that makes sense so see how this wing did some funny things because it just wants to fold flat and it's connected to it so start i'll help you on this one so we're gonna start down here at the bottom make sure that it's folded flat to the middle or that edge is folded flat to the middle and then you can just kind of run your finger up inside like that and then it will start folding it'll start doing some stuff to fold flat like that isn't that crazy it's kind of cool how it does that yeah there you go so it's got this little cool diamond or tr triangle shape right here to connect to the wing so i'll do that a little slower on this side okay so i'm going to start we'll grab that this edge right here on the tail make sure that it's folded to the middle down at the bottom and then i'm going to run my finger up inside that fold right here so that it can lay flat so you kind of just you can kind of just work with it until you get it to lay flat and it should look like that when you're finished so it's got these little parts of the wing that are connected yeah so there's one little piece that's missing see how right here when you run your finger up up inside that fold this part right here you can reverse like that down so that was pretty tricky that was a little tricky but our friends can practice that and rewind it but the point is that you just want to make sure that everything lays flat when you're done all right dude now we're gonna we're gonna take our dragon we're gonna fold it in half so all of that stuff is on the inside okay okay and then this is gonna be so these are his wings pointed down and then his head is the thicker piece and his tail is the thin so this is his tail and this is his head okay so now we're gonna fold back this front wing the front part of his wing see how that all fold back like that yeah and then we can do that on the other side too fold it back that way we can work on his neck and his head now we're going to fold his neck and there's a bunch of stuff on the inside that's going to help guide our fold so when it's folded like this we're going to fold against all of that stuff on the inside so we're using that as a guide so fold it up you should be able to fill all that thick paper in there can you yeah so that's where you're gonna fold against okay and this is gonna be a guide fold so we can open it back up and then this we're going to reverse so we'll pop it the other direction like that there we go oh one sec i'll get mine i'll get mine fixed and then i'll come over and help you make sure that it's flat there we go all right just like that so go ahead and reverse that whole thing there you go and then reverse that other fold yep you did it that's it perfect good job so that's his neck and then we need his head to come forward so we're going to do a guide fold coming forward like that good job awesome checkers okay and then we're going to do the same thing open that up and then reverse that so we can open it up a little bit and then we're going to reverse that fold back the other direction so that his head is like that did you get it yeah that looks awesome okay his nose is a little pointy huh yeah so let's take his nose and then we can just fold his nose inside so he's got a flat nose like that you got it look at that that's super cool huh yeah okay so now we can fold his wings back in front and his neck will be behind his wings isn't that cool yeah okay and then we can do the same on this side fold this wing back in front good okay now let's get his tail and we're gonna make it look more like a dragon tail so we're gonna do the same thing that we did up here but we can just do it without folding without doing a guide fold so we put our thumb inside and flatten it out and then we'll reverse the tail inside so it looks like that good job that's awesome and then you can kind of guide where you want that tail to be before you squish it down make it flat make the crease in there good job dude awesome perfect okay now we can fold what we'll do one more so put your finger back in there flatten out the tail and reverse it one more time so that it's kind of doing a zigzag huh maybe like it's flying in the i'm wind to do one more except i kind of want that pointed down i want to tell point it down a little bit more i'm going to pull it down before i flatten it good that looks awesome i like how curly your tail looks all right so we got his tail all done let's open him up and we're going to do one last thing on the inside right here this is where his arms are right he's got his cool arms connected to his wings we can take this inside part and fold it so that his hand the hand part of his wing is sticking out from the wing like that and i'm going to just hold this side to match like that and then he's it looks like his hands are popping out of his wings good job man you did it that looks awesome huh yeah this is pretty cool dragon don't you think i think he looks super awesome you put some purple eyes on them don't you think try that uh or the uh try this colored pencil will that show up on the black yep awesome dude it totally looks like an inner dragon don't you think yeah then flip them over cool dude [Music] awesome that looks really cool did you have a lot of fun making your ender
