so about three months ago we made a video on resizing the proxmox hard drive image and I showed you how simple it was I think the total video was maybe two minutes long and there's been a lot of commenting on you that it doesn't work well I've tested it multiple times and I it does work so I decided Well after thinking about it I decided to make another video to show you that it worked but also I feel that some of you may not have realistic expectations of what the video is showing you so it's showing you how to resize your hard drive or amount of storage inside of proxbox not how to do it on your operating system so inside of VM you have a full operating system running if you are going to increase storage space you have to go through a various set of other steps to do just that with your operating system so you have to make what's called your partition larger and if you don't do that you're not going to get more actual storage space but I'm going to show you today that your storage size that you can enlarge your partition to actually gets larger so with that let's go over to our proxmox web interface and look at the whole entire process of it so here our proxbox web interface you can see that I've just logged in and you can see I've made a couple of images and here's the first image here so if we go ahead and start this up and we'll open the console so we can come inside of Ubuntu the fastest and easiest way is to go to utilities and go to disks now we've already enlarged this to make sure everything was working right before the video and you can see our initial petition was originally set up for 34 gigs and we've added an extra 11 to it to make 35 and our total package here so right now our disk size is 45 gigs now there's always been a discrepancy between the disk size in proxmox which is supposed to be 42 gigs and the disk size shown in Ubuntu and I've never exactly figured out exactly why that is but I think it has to do something with the way the formatting and the software is set up so I've always kind of disregarded it knowing that if I add 10 gigs I'm getting 10 gigs and so forth so with that let's shut down Ubuntu it shut down correctly so once this green light turns off right here we can go ahead and go through the process of resizing this drive all right so we're gonna go to hardware and we're going to select hard drive now once we've gone to hard drive we can select disk action and resize and to keep this fairly easy we're going to add 10 gigs and notice the size we put in is in gigs we hit resize and we now change to 52 gigs from 42 gigs so now if we were going to go back to summary we also see 52 gigs here and we can go ahead and start this up and open a console so everything starts up and if we see now we can see that the hard drive has indeed increased and we have 21 gigs free from 11 gigs free so with this you'd have to now go through some steps to actually enlarge this drive to usable space but as far as proxmox is concerned in proxmock and this being a proxmox and tutorial we have enlarged that that drive by 10 gigs and that's what I want to show you today because my previous video just shows you quickly how to get it done it doesn't take into account how to actually enlarge that on operating systems and some of you guys have commented that either it didn't work or that the tutorial is too simple well it really is that simple inside of proxmox you're going to have to figure out what you need to do for your operating system from this point but there are other tutorials out there and if you need help I'm gladly can provide you with a few links on how to do that for your operating system if you ask so with that have a good night and thank you for subscribing and watching our video
