hey your friends you're gonna draw a cat inside of a watermelon yeah when it's folded up it'll just look like a watermelon and then when you open it the cat will be inside we hope you're gonna follow along it's gonna be a lot of fun you need your drawing supplies we're gonna use a marker you also need some paper and something to color with yeah you ready to start yes let's first take the top edge of our paper line it up with the bottom and crease it down the middle and out to the corners and if you've already done one of our folding surprise lessons we're just repeating the same steps so you can even skip forward if you can do this part faster all right now let's take that top flap and line it up with the top edge and crease that one down also next let's flip our paper over and repeat that same step we'll take the top flap line it up with the top edge and crease it down this is just a guide fold so we can unfold that last one and flatten it out then flip our paper back over so it opens like this when we're all done then we have some scratch paper we'll put underneath our drawing paper just to protect our table now we're ready to use our markers and we're first going to draw the shape of our watermelon we'll draw the top of our watermelon above the fold i'm going to start here we're going to draw a big upside down u i'm going to start here we'll curve up over and down then let's draw the bottom of our watermelon going below the fold curving around and back up to connect on the other side that's it we did it we drew our watermelon it's pretty easy now we're gonna open up our paper and flatten out the fold so it's easier to draw on once we color this shape it'll look more like a watermelon yeah okay now let's draw the top of our watermelon we're going to extend it down just past the fold on each side i'm going to extend it a little further on each side and we're going to make this look more 3d by adding an oval shape and we want to make sure that this oval shape stays below the fold the top fold then i'm going to curve around like this and then connect back so we got this squished circle we want to make sure that we're drawing below the fold so that when we fold it back up it's hidden nice now let's repeat that same shape inside so that we can draw the center of our watermelon the red part curve around and then connect where we started there i love it now let's extend the bottom of our watermelon up a little higher also and let's add the little kitten pause coming over the edge of the watermelon we're going to draw the letter u right here and we want to make sure that we're drawing above this bottom fold we're going to draw another little u-shape right next to it for the other paw and then let's connect the top of each u and we can also draw little paw lines down at the bottom two little curves and if we go too fast what can our art friends do pause the video yeah if you need extra time now we're going to draw the rest of the watermelon i'm going to start lower than the outside edge this is so we can make this look 3d too so we're going to start by drawing a straight line in between the paws and then we're going to curve up to the edge kind of like we're matching up here and then the same thing on this side curve up to match or connect to the corner okay now we're going to draw the little edge on the watermelon we're going to add another line right here in between and right here on the left side watch this i'm not going to draw all the way to the edge we're going to leave a little space on each side and do the same thing over here nice now ready to draw our little cat we're going to draw the head right here in the middle let's first draw the nose i'm going to draw a little letter v right here below the fold and then let's draw the top of the nose and let's draw the mouth we're going to draw a letter w a curved letter w for the top of the mouth and then we can draw the mouth open so it's even cuter we're going to draw a big letter u underneath oh we could also draw a little tongue inside now let's draw the sunglasses for our little kitten let's draw another letter u over here on the left for the lens on the left side and another letter u for the lens on the right side that matches looks like it's sleeping it does yeah let's draw the top of the lens on each side and let's draw the frame that goes around the sunglasses i'm going to start up on the top we'll draw a curve that matches the lens come down in between and then back up over the other side it's looking really cute then we can draw a little letter c on the left side and a backwards letter c on the right side and then we're going to trace around the bottom of the sunglasses for the rest of the frame so we'll start here trace around and then in between the lenses where the nose goes we're going to go up and back down now let's draw the shape of the head we're going to start next to the glasses or right on the glasses and we're going to draw a big letter u that comes underneath the mouth and connect over on the right side we can draw the top of the head we're going to leave a little space on each side for the ear so i'm going to draw the top of the head right here just a little curve in between the two eyes then we're going to draw an ear we're going to come up curve up and then a corner up at the top and then back down and then let's do that same ear shape on the right side a little corner up at the top and back down mine looks like a dog i think it looks like a cat oh we should add whiskers that'll make it look more like a cat we got three whiskers on each cheek you could add more if you want let's draw the inside of the ears also i'm going to draw another upside down v shape inside and then in between let's draw a little zigzag line and we can do the same thing on the right side now let's draw the body we're going to draw a line that connects from the chin down to the paw we could also add a little extra line for the belly and what's our cat missing a tail a tail let's draw a little curve s curve that comes out and up my marker's squeaky that usually means it's drying out a little bit maybe i need to change it for a new one we're going to draw another s-curve right next to it and then connect them together at the top and then let's complete the watermelon we're going to draw a little curve right here that connects in we'll do that same curve on the other side for the inside of the watermelon and then we'll draw another curve going around that's higher and also over here on the right side hadley we did it we finished drawing our cute summer kittens except we're not completely done we still need to color them yes my favorite part we're going to fast forward so remember to pause the video and take time to color your drawings you ready to fast forward yes hadley we did it we finished drawing and coloring our cute watermelons except we need to show our friends the inside yes you ready on the count of three one two three happy summer i love your little kitten it looks super cute especially the sunglasses i love the little reflection it looks like the ocean i also like the seats and the extra watermelon exploding yeah me too you can also add whatever you want to the inside of your folding surprise you could also color it any way you want we hope you had fun driving
