hi guys welcome back to my Channel today is another tutorial so I'm going to be showing you how to create an editable template using canva now editable templates are a really good way of adding an extra income online and is something that I've been doing since around 2018 to end consistent passive income so if you stick stick around I will show you how to do it so I'm Sarah Meyer and I help creative people find ways of earning an income online so if that sounds like something you like then please subscribe to my channel and like this video and drop a comment below let me know what you think so let's get on with the tutorial so first thing you need to do is go to canva.com and open up the opening up onto your screen so then we're going to create a design now what I'm going to do for this template just for the sake of the demonstration I'm going to do a template as a an invitation card so now you can use canva and and do this particular editable template tutorial for any uh template so it could be a social media template it could be um a planner page template so you can do quite a lot of different things um a lot of different templates using the same technique so first thing I'm going to do is I've opened up a new page as five by seven inches because that's generally sort of the the standard size that a lot of people would expect to purchase um an invitation card from you so I'm going to name this quotation one just the sake of the demonstration so the first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to come up to elements and I'm going to choose I'm going to type in Floral and just see what it brings up so let's have a look at the graphics now just a note um to do editable templates or to save a file as a template you are better off getting the kansa pro subscription it is possible to do it with the free version of canva although it is a little bit tricky there's a bit of a workaround that you can do it but it's it's much better to have the pro version of canva to be able to to create templates with um but when you are creating editable templates for customers using canva I would advise against using the pro elements so the pro elements are on here anything that has a little Crown here is a pro element because if you sell your invitation or template whatever it is your social media and branding to a customer and they don't have canva Pro they would then have to purchase a subscription or take out a free trial to be able to use your elements your pro elements so I would always recommend and using the free elements I'm going to use this one here because I quite like this um nice for a sort of a wedding invitation template so I'm just going to resize it here so it fits the text in I'm just going to move it across just slightly even though it's not centered I always like to look at it and do it by by eye so if it looks sort of out of Center then even if it is centered then I usually try and move it a little bit so now I'm going to add some text so if you come down to text we're just going to add a heading and let's make a name up I don't know what would you have for a wedding invitation uh David um Gemma there we go so I'm going to change the size it's actually I'm not I'm going to choose a nice font there so I'm going to choose a nice um let's have a look a nice handwritten font see so you can again with a font try to avoid if you're selling these as templates on Etsy or creative Market or wherever you're selling them try and avoid using the fonts with the little crowns on there because these are pro fonts again so your Custom Air would purchase your template and then have to purchase a license as well so they're probably not going to be very very happy about that so I'm going to actually choose a font because there is one that I quite like which is nice for uh sort of invitations and it's a free font and so what I'm going to do I'm just going to make this slightly bigger and I'm going to change the line spacing yeah put it into the middle maybe just make it even bigger again I think it needs to be bigger no maybe not actually so I'm just going to line that up actually I'm going to make it slightly Less in terms of letter space and there we go so that's our main text on there so I'm just going to add a little bit of text to sort of this is just like I said it's just a demonstration to show you how to create one yourself so you know obviously the design will look um how you want it to look I'm just sort of doing it really quick so I can show you quickly how to create um a really simple design um let me have a look foreign text add a bit of body text that's what I should have done it's just easier because it tends to not have to make you adjust the text box all the time celebration okay join us to celebrate there we go I'm just going to make this um of a case and I'm going to change the font because that doesn't really go with it um I'm gonna find a a nicerif font something simple um I don't know which one I'm looking for I'm just going to type it in let's try it now there we go that's all I wanted um that's quite nice um I'm gonna do the spacing on here actually I'm going to do a little bit more what's that looking like to make that smaller slightly bigger I am a real perfectionist when it comes to when it comes to arranging uh text there we go let's have a look and I'm just going to put some more text underneath uh just some sort of dummy text let's have a look and take it off caps so usually underneath you put a date today uh something place let's make it up City oh G DD 56 let's think 7 RT that'll do us um I'm just going to change the actually change that because that's some cats and I don't want it in caps um I'm gonna bring it down a point size and yeah so yeah so you know when you finish your invitation I'm just going to leave it as that because I'm only doing this quickly as a quick demonstration you could um like I said you could create your invitation and then what you need to do is obviously the all of these bits there would be able to come in and edit it so what you would need to do is you would need to name it obviously at the top something a little bit more creative than invitation one um and then you would come over to the top here where it says share top right hand side and you would click on template link and then it would give you a link so you copy that now what I'm going to do I'm going to put that on my and I'm going to paste it down here this is where I tend to when I'm doing stuff I tend to put all my text on a notepad so I know where I am so then what you would need to do is you can upload that to say if you've sold on your website or on Shopify or Etsy you couldn't just upload the that link um to you know you need to put it in in the form of a PDF file um because that's what most platforms sort of accept is if there's a PDF file so what I would then do is I would come back to the home page and create another design and I would do this one as a you know simple document A4 or um letter size whichever size you know is standard for Where You Are and I've got some what I would do is I would put you put your logo at the top so I'm just going to quickly um let me think let me quickly create a logo I did do to do that's quite a nice list design I'm just going to do this really really quick just for the purposes of the demonstration so um let me have a little text so let's think of a name for your shop so we'll have a pretty papers there we go I would leave that that font quite like that font and I'd make it a little bit bigger no I wouldn't actually make it I was there to five and I would space it out a little bit and actually make it a bit smaller yeah so you know if you say that for example that was your logo I would put that at the top this is how I do mine when I'm doing when I'm selling editable templates this is exactly how I do mine I have a standard um A4 page PDF document that I save in canva and all I do is I update the link each time I create a template I update the link use the same template and jobs are good and so I have for the sake of this example I have a bit of body text I have created some dummy text so so I would you know put something underneath such like thank you for your purchase from the name of the shop that I thought of thought of earlier and I would put that as the same font just it's a good it's a nice simple uh serif font and I'll make it a little bit bigger there we go yeah so I'll do something like that and I would add a button which um did do a quick Pro element so we don't want that oh actually we can we can use Pro elements if you're not actually using it in your template so but yeah just you know you could just do a button I'd just use a button here or if you want to you could just use a really simple go into the shapes use a simple square and you could just make that into a button like like so um that would work as well and again that's going back to text I would add a head in so you would only have to do this once and then you could use the same the same PDF page you could use that multiple times for each template just remembering to go back in and change the link so it it takes them to the template that they've purchased and then just update it and on computer so I'm just going to use a really standard um Samsung font I'm going to make that smaller actually not too small I'll capitalize it and I'm going to make that I'm going to make this black and I'm going to make this white fold White so this is where they your buyer your customer would would go in find this and make it really obvious that you know this is a template click here something that tells them to click on the link um and then you would just put your link here which I'll show you in a minute but just before I do what I like to do on on here is I like to just put a little bit of a um uh terms and conditions disclaimer underneath uh it's always good to have your because obviously when you create something it automatically has your you know you own the copyright because it has a digital stamp um of when you created it on your computer but it's always a good idea just to just to have something in writing which they receive which goes through your your copyright terms and conditions just so if anything did happen you would have it there that you know these are the terms and conditions that I've specified um and you'd have it there in black and white so I'm just going to do that so I'm going to unbold and I'm going to hmm I'm going to make it bigger so what I'll do is when I finish this template I'm going to actually save this as a template um and I'm going to put a link into I'm going to put the link below so you can actually use this if you want to I'm going to save this so you can use it for free so I've done it now so what I'll do is I'll create this is a template and if you click the link below you'll be able to access this download it onto your canva account and you can actually just use this put your logo on and it has all of the information here you can change it as you want so now now we've got the link so I saved the link here but you can you can just go back into your I'm just going to move that you can just go back into your your template and then again you can just re-copy the the link now what I do is I don't put the link on the text I actually put the link on the shape the reason I do that and just um right click on here and go down to link is because it if you do it on the text it underlines the text and it just looks a bit scruffy so I I tend to do it this way so the links on there so now all you have to do is um add a head in now I usually call it something like um your your template here and your template here and then I download it and click on share and then I download it now when you download it you need to download it as a PDF and standard not print because if you look if you download it as a PDF for print it'll flatten everything and you won't have the link in there so you need to load download it as a standard PDF um download it to your computer and then what I'm going to I'm going to open it up from my download file moments downloads it's not done yet why is it not in there hmm let's do that again I don't know why that's not did it let's download it again so download as a PDS standard download it I'll open it up here so so that will download onto your computer so save it and remember to each time obviously you do a new template to update the link on here so what your customer will receive you will upload this to your uh whichever Marketplace you're selling on whatever platform you're selling on so if you was to sell this on Etsy you would upload this as your PDF that you're selling to the customer so obviously they'll open their file when when they've made their purchase and they will click here and it will take them to here and they can actually click on their user template and it will save a copy onto their canva account so it won't affect your copy there'll be no effect for your copy now I did mention that the there is a way of doing this without canva Pro uh it is a bit of a sort of a workaround and it's not the best um it's not the best it's almost streamlined way of doing it because the cat some things can go wrong so the other way of doing it is to um let me just I can remember how to do it uh so you would you would do here anyone can access this using a link so you could actually just get the link and send it to somebody you could obviously do it the same way the only problem is they would need to you would need to make a copy of it and they would need to make a copy of it otherwise if they started editing their templates it would edit the original so you that's the only problem with with doing this without canva Pro so what I'll do um just before we finish the video I'll do a really quick demonstration of of how you can do a really simple mock-up for your templates now obviously depending on what templates you have would dependent depend on what sort of mock-ups you would need so um for the purpose of this demonstration I will create another design and I would what size is it you know let me just double check let's see um listing photo size two seven two seven by 2025 so you would create another design custom size 2027 what was that two seven oh by 2025 two seven so it's wide by 2025 so that's the dimensions that um they actually recommend for your listing size photo size so you create a new design now if you have canva Pro you can use some of their uh Pro images uh photos again this is this is for your um Etsy listing it's not something you're going to pass on to the customer so I actually found this one here in their photos I literally searched for um I think it was like invitation mock-up um and it brought me loads some of them are pro elements sorry Pro photos if you you know but obviously you can use those if it's just for your listing image um I I found this one which is actually was a free one and I quite liked it now I get a lot of my mock-ups if I'm using photo mock-ups I don't always use photo mock-ups but I'd buy a lot of mine from Etsy and there's some really great shops on Etsy that sell photo mockups uh I'll list some places below as to where I get mine from some of the shops that I use so again arrange it onto your um canvas and then what you could do you could you could you there's two ways of doing this actually I'm just gonna get rid of that on that you could download this as an SVG SVG file with transparent background and then you could then pull it into here so you would once you've downloaded it you could upload it into here and that would compute is really slow today that would then pull it through as a transparent so you could just lay it over the top and I'm not going to do that I'm going to do it the easy way I'm just going to copy and command or control and C on your keyboard or you can just if you can copy yet copy and if you right click and then I'm just going to paste the whole thing onto here and it does it for you with a transparent background it's the quickest and easiest way of doing it let me just I should have grouped that before I did that and group it and you know you know what I mean I mean it's not lined up I would spend a bit more time obviously lining it up and making sure it's neat but you can use that as your um listed image uh you could do a number of different ones what I always sort of like to do is put something on the front of there which says um I want to do that color I might do it black maybe make it transparent or not as transparent sorry sort of uh opaque and I would put something like some text just to let people know that it's an editable template because unfortunately what am I doing unfortunately what I found is that a lot of customers particularly Etsy customers don't read that it's a editable digital download and I think it's a physical product so I always not always but you know if it's something that looks particularly lifelike I tend to put in the listen image digital um download uh obviously you can do it however you want just that's too big it's one of those days right let me have a look so yeah you know just something on your uh there's something on the front that tells your customers it's a digital product I am I am a little bit too perfectionist when it comes to text and arranging it on my product so something like that so you could use that perfectly good mock-up doesn't cost you anything if you've got cans of pro you can use for the pro photos um or you can download you can purchase them from Etsy you know just a few pounds and you can use those for your listed images that's what I do and there's some really good uh images on unsplash as well which you sometimes you get some good um images that you can use as mock-ups so I would just I usually call it sort of whichever name for the listing it is and then I usually put mock-up one and then mock-up two three four and then you would just download that again here but I would download that as a JPEG and you could do it as a PNG but it it pngs tend to give you massive file sizes so I tend to if it's just going on Etsy or particularly if it's going on a website because you want to keep the file size as small as possible if you uploaded it to your Shopify website or Squarespace or wherever it is because you know two two if the file sizes are too big it will slow your website down you don't want that so make I tend to stick to JPEG and I do try and pull the quality down a little bit if it's on a website if it's on Etsy you know it starts their problem so I'll leave it where it is um and then you just download that upload it to Etsy and or wherever and and it's done so I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial and you've got something from it uh drop me a comment below let me know what you think um I will do another video going into the different ways of doing editable templates because there are other ways you can do it you don't just have to use canva and there's three different ways that I use for my editable templates so I'll do another video uh with with the different ways of doing it and I will link that below and um let me know what you've thought what you think and remember to subscribe if you haven't and I will see you in another video thanks for watching bye
