[Music] hey everyone John Deere here and welcome to John Deere's embroidery legacy I've noticed online that custom key fob seemed to be all the craze and they're so easy to do so today I'm gonna show you a quick and fast way to lay out a custom key fob within a software program now I have my hat software open and I'm not gonna do my layout within a new window I'm actually going to call up one of my custom templates and you can set up your own templates and hatch and the reason why is I have a template that I've called key fob and every time I want to do a key fob this is the template that I'll choose and what's unique about the templates is I already have the fabric setting chosen which means that I have it set for leather or suede which is pretty much identical to vinyl you need less density a little less pull compensation and you need longer stitches on your underlay because it has a tendency to put too many penetrations in this you know type of it's really not fabric but it has a tendency to punch hole so this will give me better results by choosing this fabric type I've also chosen a background so that I get a simulated effect as I'm actually working within the design now what I'm gonna do is I'm going to click right here at the zero mark a positioning line and this is going to give me a line that is going to be centered to the zero mark of my design I'm set on us right now and what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna do a layout or a key fob using lettering I'm just going to type in my name now you could do a key fob with a design or you could do a key fob with design and lettering combined or just a design in itself it really doesn't matter what you choose you know as long as you have some type of layout I'm gonna do about let's say 4.7 inches so it's going to be you know about four and a half inches and I'm going to as I have that set up I'm gonna choose probably a different font so let's go here and choose something that's a little bit more fun I'm gonna choose one that's actually called let's do this one here bun twenty five-millimeter and i'm gonna change the color of that to a white color and if i wanted to i could also come in here to my customized design and change the background color of that you know key fob from let's say a lighter color to a darker brown and that way i get an exact simulation of what I'm going to be seeing when it sells out on the finished product it's kind of handy to see that at the same time if I want to I can always just go in and turn off the background colors and go back to the gray which now lets me see that line that I've placed down there for the actual center placement of the design so let's just grab this object I'm going to hit the H key and I'm going to move these over so that I've adjust the kerning a little bit for each of these letters and I have the Jo HN grab this one and let's make the jail little bit bigger than the other letters and then I can slide it over in place and now I can see my layout for my design is done and when I grab this entire object I can line it up so it's marked right on the zero position of the actual ruler and now I know that that is centered to the design itself so I pretty much have that in place now I'm going to turn off the US and I'm going to go to metric because when I'm working within settings and embroider it's usually always in metric and I'm going to then go and highlight the entire object I'm going to go to edit objects and there is a automatic create outlines and offsets and I have it set right now to two millimeters which is fine and I'm going to do the offset count to two as well I can adjust that to two or three or just one and I'm going to click OK and it's going to give me an offset around those objects now here's what I'm gonna do I'm going to grab that color from my resequenced and let's make this black because I need a black thread and again that'll visually give me sort of a guideline and now what I'm going to do is I'm going to grab all of the objects that I don't want and I can very very quickly take those and delete them from the actual design itself now here's the thing if I look at some of these areas here I can go in and edit this and this is the beautiful part of this software is when I come in here and edit these objects I can grab those and delete them and then I can come over here and I can grab these pieces and just grab all those together and let's delete those and I can grab one here and change that and put it in place so this is that the great thing about hatch is you can very very quickly come in here and adjust anything within the design that you want to make sure that it's going to be friendly I don't want any of these really abrupt points down here I'd hate to get in there with scissors and try to cut that all out so I'm just going to grab all those objects delete them and now I have something that is going to be a little bit friendlier for actual cutting on this design so there I have my outline in place and that is actually going to look pretty good right there now the one thing I do want to mention is when I did that offset and if I go back to the offset you're gonna see that it is done as a single run stitch and that is pretty important now I can see where the center point on my design is and I am in metric and I do know that those little snaps for the key fobs they are about one centimeter in width so if I look at this right now I need to make sure that when I do my little key fob area that's going to go at the top here that we fold over I'm going to do this but I'm going to make sure that I measure out at least let's say seven millimeters from either side of this zero position right here so I'm going to make sure that's exactly centered I'm going to come here to digitize and I'm going to choose a rectangle and because I can see right here this would be at about the seven millimeter mark right here I'm gonna take that and I'm going to go all the way over to here and let's go over here to about seven millimeters off of this side as well that way I know that it is perfect and I'm going to hit the LK button now I'm going to grab that object and turn it into an outline which is a single run stitch and this is really just a I guess a guideline for my positioning and what I mean by that is if I do want to put a curve on this here if I want to have a nice rounded edge I can move that one up right there and then I can hit the spacebar and now I have a nice rounded edge but I'm actually just going to use that as a positioning marker for what I'm going to digitize I'm going to make sure this is done perfectly so I'm going to grab this now I'm gonna choose my digitize open shape single run stitch choose the black color and I'm just going to mark right on the lines here exactly what I see and that way everything is touching perfectly and I'm going to then get rid of that original blue one that I put down so now I have my tab for my key fob now here's the fun part when I go to my objects I can see that my lettering is first then I have this object here and let's turn off the true view I have this object here and then I have this fab over here but what I want to make sure is that up I have not a single run but a double run on each of these so I'm gonna go to that original object and then under my digitized I have this one here called backtrack and this is going to give me a backtrack of that and if I hit the H key on that I can see that my start and my stop need to be in the same place so on each of these I have my start and my stop on the same place and that way I know that it's going to start and stop right here on both of these objects then if I go to this object I'm going to make sure when I hit the H key that my start and my stop are there and now all I have to do is hit the backtrack and it's going to backtrack over and when I go here I can see that my start is here and my stop is there and then when it backtracks it goes back over and now the design is done and if I do bring this up full screen right now and let's hit the T key for true view and I'm going to go to the player which will give me simulated embroidery and I can see now that it's doing all of these objects first and then it gets to the key fob it's going to start here go around the design go back around the other side do the top come back and there's absolutely no jumps or trims and it's outlined perfectly if I want to I can come in here and very quickly put down a little circle and that will just give me a marking line to show me where I'm going to actually you know put my key fob my little snap if I want to but I very very quickly generated a custom key fob design that is going to run perfectly on the screen now I'm just going to go let's turn my embroidery background my simulated fabric back on and click the ok button and there you have it we have a custom key fob that is going to be perfectly outlined and have absolutely no jumps and trims in the outline now you can see just how easy it was to create our own custom key fob it was done within a few simple steps in a few minutes of our time now I'd like to
