How to Create a Windows 11 Recovery USB

hey everyone it's ken here from northern viking every day today i have a quick windows 11 tutorial for you we're gonna be showing you how to create a windows 11 recovery usb so if you have a major hardware failure your computer crashes and you need to reinstall windows 11 on your system this recovery drive will help you reinstall windows on your computer it's really quite simple to make now a couple things i do want to mention is this recovery usb will not store all your personal files your photos your apps those will all be lost this is purely to reinstall windows on your system and get it back up and running so we'll show you exactly how to do that today you will need a flash drive or thumb drive of at least 16 gigabytes so keep that in mind maybe if you do need one i'll put some links below in the description to some of my favorite brands let's go ahead and dive right into showing you how to create a recovery usb for windows 11. [Music] so let's go ahead and start out by inserting our flash drive into our computer into the usb port so i'll do that right now and here we are on my windows 11 desktop i've got that usb flash drive installed and it's really quite simple to create this recovery usb so the first thing we need to do is do a quick search here at the bottom you'll see a little magnifying glass if you're not seeing that you can just left click on your start menu here and type in here where it says search i'm going to go back to the magnifying glass here and in this search area we're going to type in create a recovery drive so just go ahead and type that in create a recovery drive and just hit enter and i've got a little pop-up here i'm just going to go ahead and hit yes here it says do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device and once you've done that it should pop up and look something like this it says recovery drive create a recovery drive even if your pc can't start you can use a recovery drive to reset it or troubleshoot problems so this is what we're looking for today you'll see a little check mark here backup system files to the recovery drive make sure this is checked and turned on and once you've done that go ahead and hit next here it's going to start searching for the drives that it can back up the system to or windows 11 to on your computer so i'll come back to you once it's done that all right so it found my flash drive here it actually found two drives it found my flash drive which i have named ken um yours might be the brand of your flash drive maybe it's lexar maybe it's samsung maybe it's sandisk so i might say that there as well it also found my internal storage or solid state drive on my computer so we're going to make sure that our flash drive is selected here and then we're going to go ahead and hit next and again your flash drive needs to be able to hold at least 16 gigabytes of data and everything on the drive is going to be deleted so if you have anything important on that drive make sure it is backed up before you do this process so let's go ahead and hit next here again it's going to give you a warning that all your personal files on that flash drive will be deleted so again make sure those are backed up and we're going to go ahead and hit create here and it's going to create that recovery drive for us so i'll come back to you once it's finished this process all right so that all finished up there it says the recovery drive is ready that actually took about an hour for that to complete my flash drive is a slower and older one let's go ahead and hit finish here and you can see it actually changed the name from ken to recovery and all the information is on the drive there so i've ejected and pulled out my thumb drive and really it's that simple to create a windows 11 recovery usb hope this video did help you out if it did make sure to give it a thumbs up also remember to connect with me on social media and subscribe here on youtube i'd love to have you join the northern viking community thank you so much for watching and until next time take care
