How to crack a combination lock for key safe, this method should work for suit cases as well

today i'm going to show you how to crack one of these um combination lock this is a key safe that belonged to a colleague of mine who inadvertently change the combination and he doesn't remember what it is so i told him i would try to crack it open for him so all you need is a few pieces of paper um that's thin enough to slice through the slides down this gap here but it has to be strong enough that it doesn't collapse as you slide it down the whole idea is these four these four dials underneath and they look like this they're not the the barrel or the cylinder isn't um a full circle there's there's one part that's going to be flat so the idea is that we we find where this flat piece is on these four dials so what we'll do is um we'll put the paper down the gap here and as we're turning the paper will stay pretty pretty um in position but as you turn it and it gets to where it's flat you feel that the paper will just dip down and that's where you know um where this line is so once you've lined up all four of these things in once you've lined it all up or this this flat line once it's all lined up you know that that's the correct positions for the numbers so let's have a go what i've done is i've taken this piece of paper i've put it down the gap here and i've drawn a line i've drawn this this line to show um where the position is so where it's sitting so what i'll do now is i'll just turn this digit one at a time and when that piece of paper or when i turn this to where the cylinder is flattened out the paper should drop so as i'm turning i'm just pushing the paper very slow very slightly just pushing it down all right so that's a definite drop there so if i just push push it again that lines you can you see that lines going up and that's going down so for this particular digit i found where the cylinder is flattened out so we're here all we have to do is now repeat the process on each of these numbers so here we go oh this is right there this is low so what i'll do i should show you i'll turn it see the paper get pushed up so there okay so i've got these two lined up now so let's see i keep turning oh i think that's there so let's put some paper down there's a drop there push it out see that that goes up so that means there's a digit there okay let's go to the next one looks like this paper is about to give up so let's turn it around use a fresh corner so let's make a mark i'll make a mark and we'll turn the numbers i think that's there because let's just drop down let's keep turning and see if it'll get pushed up yep see it's gone up that's where it's dropped so so what i've done is i've found i've lined up the barrels so the flat part is all here now the flat part is on lined up along here so we'll try to open it if that doesn't open it just means that um the this flat part is not in the right position on the opposite side so if i turn this five times one two three four five the same thing on the next digit one two three four five same one two three four five one two three four four five okay so all that i've done is i've turned the flat part of the barrel to to the opposite side so it's back here now so let's see if these are open and it opens there you go hope that helps someone thanks for watching
