as far as cooling my garage Jim I'm just gonna go through the options in which I think is the best option so the first thing that I tried is an evaporative cooler I paid like $120 at Lowe's I'm not gonna go into the science behind how one of these machines work but basically I found that it was it cooled more than a fan but less than an AC so it also made things pretty humid in the in the garage which is really bad when you have a lot of when you have high heat and high humidity it's pretty much miserable so I definitely would not recommend an evaporative cooler for that reason in at least in a climate like Las Vegas I think it was I think it actually made things worse with the humidity that I put into the air so I can't recommend that option the second thing that I did which was a little bit more expensive was I bought a portable AC unit a portable AC unit basically needs to be vented it comes with a hose and the hose needs to be vented somehow so I just so happen to have a vent in my garage so I just stuck the hose in there if you do not have one you're going to need to create one somehow you can't just you know have the hose go back into the house because that's gonna you know put a lot of dust and whatnot into the house so that's not something that you can do if you open the garage door a little bit to stick the hose out too much heats going to be let in so I don't recommend that option either now the final thing that I did is I spent more money so the portable a/c was about three hundred dollars I purchased it used pretty adequately in that sense but as far as cooling the whole garage I don't think it did the best job at that I think that it it worked decently but I think that the main benefit was if you were standing right in front of it so that still wasn't all that satisfying to me so I decided to upgrade to a mini-split based on the recommendation of my friend last option I spent a little bit more money I spent a little bit under $500 I got a mini split a/c with heat pump 12,000 BTUs I got it on eBay and I spent a little bit under five hundred dollars including shipping on it alright guys so this is what a mini split a/c unit looks like as you can see it's mounted at the near the top of my ceiling it's not centered in my garage just because of I have an adjustable slot rack and this would interfere with closing that so that's why it's mounted over here it's a pretty simple concept to explain so this is the indoor unit there's also an outdoor unit where those the hoses on the Left go the outdoor unit is it's it's not super huge but it is it is a big thing that you would have to put outside so keep that in mind the other thing is as far as installation goes this took me and my friend about two hours to do just the two of us if we were to have hidden the wires it would have taken a lot more time to do so we just did it as simple as possible but basically what I do for this is I actually have you look here I have a smart a wife ice plug and what I do is I actually just on my phone I've set up a schedule where this will kick on about two hours before I start working out and by the time I come home from work at 6:30 you know and I'm ready to work out at 6:30 the gym is a very comfortable temperature so out of the three options that I've talked about this is by far the best option this actually the entire garage gets like a very comfortable temperature it's not ice cold like it is in the like in the house with a/c running but it is very comfortable in this garage and oh the next thing that I want to talk about just before I close the video is this is what one of the very first things that I did is I installed what's called garage door and relation you can pick it up at like Home Depot or Lowe's this is I have a two-car garage so a garage this size basically you you need about two packages which is going to cost you about hundred dollars but just doing this made a pretty large difference in temperature since a lot of the heat is actually coming from the garage door so what it is basically is it's a like a styrofoam piece and on the other side there's a aluminum reflective layer and it does a pretty good job at keeping a lot of the outside heat from escaping I do need to put some weather stripping down last but not least this is just a pretty standard method but I recommend getting a high velocity fan they blow up they circulate a lot more air than a regular fan and they're like maybe twenty dollars more expensive so I definitely recommend it I'm actually probably going to get a fan that you know is not a floor fan and also possibly a larger fan anyways guys these are the things that I do to make and keep my garage cool I highly recommend the mini split I highly recommend a high velocity fan and also Garage Door insulation if you have any questions leave a comment and I'll try to answer as soon as I can and if you liked this video give it a thumbs up and subscribe if you want to see
