hi everyone in this video I want to show you how to set up your old Wi-Fi router as a Wi-Fi extender or a Wi-Fi repeater recently I replaced my dink AC 2600 Wi-Fi router with this very good Asus RT ax3000 router and in some parts of my house like at the extremities of the house I don't get a very good Wi-Fi signal so I thought that instead of purchasing a new Wi-Fi extender that I convert my old dealing router into a Wi-Fi extender so let me show you how to do it first you need to Hardware reset your old Wi-Fi router and to do this I'm going to be using a very Advanced technological tool so this is a very Advanced technological tool just push it up and then pull it down and you need a toothpick to do this or any other of course sharp object so all routers usually have a reset button on the back here so for the dlink it is this one here so I'm going to just push it in for 5 seconds and now the router should reset so notice here the orange lead light on the dlink so it means it is resetting so while the router is resetting you need to connect it to your PC with an ethernet cable let me show you and notice here that I connected the ethernet cable to the land ports of the router so choose any Lan Port of the router and do not connect it to the one port of the router otherwise it will not work so here I connected the Lan cable to the router and to my PC and after the router reseted we need to start configuring it so let me switch to the screen recording to show you how to configure it so now on your PC you need to go to the administration page of the router for this open the web browser so here I'm going to open my Microsoft Edge and first you need to get the IP of the router after it was reseted so I'm going to Simply here search for dink default IP address and notice here that the dink default IP address for 99% of the dink routers is 192.168.0.1 so let's go to this IP address so here simply click on agree first so let me click on agree of course if if you're using another brand this will defer but the steps the main steps remain the same so here it's telling me that it's not connected to the internet so of course this is normal so click on I understand and here th hcp connection keep it as it is click on next and here give your Wi-Fi network any name so let me give it here the name kst1 so this will be the extended Wi-Fi network I'm going to show you later how to use it and how to connect to it so let me put the password also KS then of course put a strong password for you but here for the purpose of this video it is okay like this now press on next and here on this page you need to put Administration password for your router so let me put here kst 10 of course in real life put a very strong password so click on next and this is a time zone next keep my device updated next and next and now the router is being configured give it a second to finish the configuration so of course we need to configure it yet still the initial configuration of the router is finished press on okay and let's log in to the router with a new password and notice here that it doesn't have internet which is very normal at this stage we need to go to the main router's Administration page to get some information about the IP address that we're going to configure here so let me open the administration page of my ASUS router of course here if you have another router open the administration page of this router and in your router's Administration page you need to go to Lan and under Lan you need to go to the hcp server and on this page you need to get the information about the range of IP addresses that this router is Distributing and here you see that my router is Distributing addresses from 192.168 15.11 until 192.168 5. 254 so it means that I have the addresses from 2 to 10 that are free and that I can use for my old router of course the address here one is reserved for the router so we cannot use it so we can use from 2 to 10 in case your router is Distributing addresses from 2 to 254 you need to get an IP address that is not used by another client and to know this each router is different but on the Asus you can go to the network map and then click on clients here under clients click on view list and here you see what are the IP addresses that are distributed on your home network and you get an IP address that is not used by any other device so in my case here I'm going to get the IP address 192.168 50.3 to configure my dink router so our work on the Asos is finished let me close the administration page and let's go back to the dink routers Administration page so here under settings scroll to network under network settings you need to put the IP address that we identified in our new router so for me it is 192.168.1.3 and subnet Ma leave it as it is under advanced settings here make sure that the hcp server is disabled and then here simply click on Save and wait for the router to save the configuration and while the router is saving its configuration we need to disconnect it from the PC and connect the same line port to the new router so let me show you how to do it so this is the ethernet cable so I disconnected it from my PC and you need to connect it to any empty Lan port in your new router so here I'm connecting it to an empty lamp port and see now both routers are connected of course now I put the routers one next to the other for the purpose of this video so that you can see the setup one next to the other so that I can explain it but in real life it's better to put this router far from this router and to avoid putting a long Ethernet cable because it defies the purpose of a Wi-Fi extender you can use something like this power line ethernet adapter so in a previous video I made I explained how to use this so this will convert your power line into like an Ethernet cable so that you can transmit data on it and this way you can put this one next to your new router and one next to the old router far in your house and this way you have the two routers really separate now that everything is configured let me show you how to connect to this extended Wi-Fi network so I'm going to switch to screen recording once again and show you how to connect to kst 10 and now on my PC I will demonstrate to you how I will be connecting to the new extended Wi-Fi network so this is a Windows 11 PC so I'm going to click on the Wi-Fi icon here on the bottom right corner and then I'm going to click on the arrow and then here I'm going to search for the the new Wi-Fi network which is KS 10 and here it is and let me put it on connect automatically by the way if you put both Wi-Fi networks like the main Wi-Fi network and also the extended Wi-Fi network as connect automatically when your device falls out of the range of one of the Wi-Fi networks it will connect automatically to the other Wi-Fi network and this way you'll have a full coverage throughout your house so this is what I'm doing here so I'm going to keep connect automatically and then I'm going to click on connect and I'm going to put the key so click on next and now it should connect and here it is connected and let's test internet if it is working on it here I have an internet speed of 33 megabits per second and I'm getting the full speed on the extended Wi-Fi network by the way I have affiliate Links of all the devices that I used throughout this video especially the technologically advanced toothpick distributor here if you make a purchase using my links in the description I will gain a small percentage at no cost to you and this would greatly help my Channel I want to thank you all for watching and I hope that this video was useful to you in case it was please share it subscribe to my channel and
