how to actually fix ticking spacebars everyone knows you're supposed to lube your stabilizers this prevents them from creating any rattly noises when you press down on the keys but one problem people don't tell you about is ticking this is when lightly pressing on a stabilizer key causes it to make a loud tick noise it sounds like this and it's horrible so we're gonna get rid of it i've done tons of research on youtube and reddit to find a solution but nobody knows the real answer most people say use more lube but this does not work and the ticking comes back others say to wrap the wire in heat shrink or plumber's tape but this did nothing for me other people say to use the holy mod which does help but does not fully get rid of it for some people and we'll talk about that in a second still others recommend balancing your wires so they're perfectly straight or buying better keycaps so they're not warped at all but this isn't a solution that's available to everybody and sometimes it just doesn't fix the issue if you want to keep your keycaps not mess around with wire balancing and permanently fix ticking this is the video for you so first things first how does ticking actually happen as it turns out there are two types of ticking the first kind takes place inside your stabilizer between the plastic of the little insert and the metal wire this is what the holley mod aims to address the other kind of ticking is between the metal wire and the plastic clip what happens is that some part of your keyboard is misaligned usually this is a bent metal wire one side of the stabilizer has the metal wire resting on the plastic but the other side has the metal wire slightly above it pressing down on that raised side is going to cause that ticking noise the only person i could find who had a solution to this was this guy he suggests putting cotton underneath your stabilizer wires and taping it to your pcb but his methods are a bit messy so let's do the same idea with a different approach we'll be using the tried and true tool of keyboard modding the band-aid just cut a rectangle on the edge of the band-aid pad so you have some part to stick it down with and some part to go under the wire now slide the piece of band-aid underneath the stabilizer wire while the stabilizer is installed to ensure a tight fit for the space bar just put one piece on the right side and one piece on the left side press the sticky part down with your finger and you should be all set but even this doesn't stop ticking completely for some people in my case i had to use the holy mod as well check out this tutorial by hamajineo if you'd like to see how to do the holy mod effectively i performed a slightly less messy version of this on my own stabilizers and this combined with the band-aid underneath wire was enough to completely stop my ticking problems to be clear this is not a substitute for lube this is just an additional step you can take to make sure ticking never happens and now let's hear a sound test to see how well our methods worked and that's it i hope this video made your stabilizers sound better than ever don't forget to like and subscribe and check out my other youtube channel where my wife and i review movies sounds magically delicious thanks for watching
