hi guys I'm me hello welcome back to the channel and welcome back to the very colourful land of the skittles the cars here parked up in the long-term storage where they live but today I'd like to talk a bit more about something many of you who've been asking me to do with the costs of running cars like the Ford GT and the McLaren Senna I've alluded a bit in the comments to how much more those cars costs to run and to use and to maintain than say the AMG GT are the Vantage GT eight the 675lt Spyder or even the Ferrari GT C aller so that's currently over at my flat in Germany and Frankfurt well it's a bit of a fuel for thought we've not done one for a while so let's run through this have a bit more of a deeper look at what it actually costs to run cars like this it's also going to turn into a bit of a garage update I've got some news to tell you as well some plans for what's coming up so stay tuned don't go anywhere that's all coming very shortly - so let's get started then and go into this in a bit more detail many of you out there particularly the squad the regular viewers amongst you and yes we've just had squad skittles and behind me we've got the Shamima Beals as you'll know that's a bit of light-hearted fun don't take it too seriously but you'll also know that I'm not a big fan of garage Queens I believe that cars like these are built to be driven and driven hard used as intended and that's exactly what I try and do in the last couple of weeks have been totally insane as you've probably seen it is genuinely mind-blowing what's been going on of course with these two at the Nurburgring also taking the GT to Silverstone but the different events I've been to around Northern Europe so far meeting so many of you and as we put it I'm incredibly lucky that I'm living at the supercar dream and it's so awesome to be able to share it with you give you an experience and sense of what these cars are like and today I'm going to be talking about the other side of that some of the costs behind it why the centre and GT are so much more expensive to run than say the LT the GT 8 the GTR and the loo so now before we get onto that lots of you asked me about this location where I store my cars it is actually a private car storage it's not a public location it's not somewhere that people can just come down and take a look and I've talked about this before but there are actually cars right in front of me and right alongside which make these look almost a little bit pedestrian some very rare very special very expensive cars are around so mine are in pretty good company now the reason for this is that although I would love a man cave a private garage where I could hang memorabilia put all my spare bits and pieces like wheels and tires and all the pictures that we've taken over the last couple of years it is of course very important with my travel schedule remember how little I'm in the UK that the cars are secure they're being looked after they're under covers on trickle charges somebody's checking in on them all the time to make sure that everything is well and having that I guess sense of peace from the security is pretty important at this stage maybe in the future and if anybody out there has a good idea do let me know do drop a message because one day the time will come but for now this is the perfect location to be storing all of the cars on to the cars then so here at the moment we've got the LT GT 8 the GT the centre the GTR and benzine Benz Mustang over in Frankfurt is the GTC Borla so and the Heritage RS the red RS is currently at my flat here in London but it's gonna be heading over to mountain to do a couple more things with it as well before I'm next back but just as a reminder the LT is actually coming up now to being about three years old in that time it's done 12,000 miles it's been to spar the Nurburgring road trips fuel Faction down to Bosnia and Montenegro lots and lots of fun things with it the GT 8 has been to the millimetre it's been down to Rome it's been around Sardinia fuel faction as well also around the Nurburgring up to Scotland around Knockhill tach cars done just over 6,000 miles in two and a bit years the GT already hard to believe this car is only about four months old but it's been around the ring it's been around good word it's been around Silverstone it's got 1300 miles on the clock but many more to come including activities very far and wide that I've been alluding to as well the centre just under a thousand miles but also around the ring around the GP at the Nurburgring - and again lots more coming with it I'm even going to be taking it over to a pretty famous circuit as well very soon the GTR while I'm sure you know this car it's about 18 months old it's got 19,000 miles on the clock the rentec twin-turbo upgrades I don't drive it all that much the moment but I do think I'll do more driving with it and fingers crossed in the not-too-distant future it's going to change and become a GTR Pro as well but I like to keep a hold of it because it's such a fantastic car to drive and enjoy so what about the costs why am I saying that these two are in a different territory to the likes of some of the others well there are things that are pretty similar ultimately each car takes up one parking spot that costs the same two to part them up things like tires that's pretty equivalent from one to the other fuel is actually pretty much the same depending upon them all as well I mean the GT is not the most economical in the world and it has a tiny fuel tank but those two are pretty similarly economical in fact depending how you drive them they all are really so those aren't particularly big differences where the differences come in are of course to do with the buy prices but most importantly insurance now insurance is a big big thing with these kind of cars of course especially with what I'm doing they need to be covered properly for everything that I do with them and that lands me a very very big bill but where it gets interesting is if we just think about this a little bit let's take the LT spider and the center for this comparison so the LT spider had a new price of about three hundred and forty thousand pounds the Sena had a new price of about eight hundred and thirty thousand pounds to be completely honest with you so we're talking what two and a half times the difference now the L T's insurance cost to the seller's insurance cost is six times the difference so basically because of the high value because of the risks the center is vastly more expensive to insure than the 675 LT same story goes if you compare the GT 8 to the Ford GT and actually the center is about eight times the price to insure the GTR so where the GTR is something like 2,000 pounds per year you can more or less work out where that means the centre is a bit over 15,000 pounds to insure the car and don't forget also that's based on a limited mileage so in the UK we have a very funny system with insurance so this actually needs a little bit more explanation in most countries you basically insure the car and more or less anybody can drive it here in the UK you need to insure a car but you also need to specify exactly who's driving it and everything that it might do in the modifications and the factory options and just about everything so it's a really long complicated process to get insurance and I'm very lucky that I've got a great broker who helps me get all of that sorted out but it does mean that it ends up costing quite a lot so the GT and the Sena are basically limited in terms of what they can actually do I can only do a few thousand miles a year with each of them whereas the other cars I've lowered it now because I don't drive these two so much but when they were new I could put 10,000 miles a year on them and that was all okay now the other side of that that you also have to think about is the actual value of the cars now one of the reasons that many people don't do crazy mileage with cars like this in fact I think my GT is the first UK delivered GT that even did a track day one of the first to go around the Sun around the Nurburgring the center the first McLaren Center to go around the Nurburgring one of the reasons for that is what happens to the value of them both down to the mileage that you do but also down to how they're driven a lot of customers if you're intending to sell a car don't want to see a cart they're looking to buy that's been doing track laps that's been driven really harvests done v-max runs that's done anything fun everybody wants a karma that's been a garage Queen now from my experience this is actually totally backwards because cars that have been used properly have been serviced maintained driven the engines have actually been used which means they're more reliable less things go wrong with them anything that has gone wrong with them has been fixed along the way because of course supercars have small nickels all the time I told you about the GT the Sena has some tiny stuff as well but this is all completely normal so it's a really backwards thing I think the UK is much more about this than perhaps other markets here it makes a huge difference so for example the type of things I'm doing with the GT are not helping the value of this car one bit but I don't care because it's a keeper for me it's a car that I want to keep a hold off forever and I'm going to use it and as you've seen it at Silverstone the ring the Nurburgring GP and at Goodwood it's soon to be doing many more tracks around the world as well so for me it doesn't matter so much but you can see why for some people all of this is actually a pretty relevant factor so insurance is one of the really really big ones like I said tires it makes very little difference yes okay maybe it's slightly harder to get the sport cup 2 s in the fitment for the Ford GT than it is to get the AMG GT are ones which are much more readily available due to simply how many more the cars are on the roads and the fact that the majority of them or many of them are here in the UK for example but the cost is pretty similar I mean pretty much whatever you're doing a set of tires for these kind of cars is 1200 1500 pounds the centre may be slightly more for its Trofeo ours I think they might be a touch more than the normal McLaren Trofeo ours like her on the LT but I have a storeroom filled with lots of spare tires and wheels for different cars or stock wheels for example from the GT the winter tyres for some of the cars spare wheels as well from the red RS so that's some of it the other side of it is what happens if anything goes wrong well let's be honest about this if you're driving a car and you park it on the streets in London and somebody bumps you or scratches around a corner with one of these oh my goodness it won't be fun of course they've got paint protection which will help from paint protection film which will help from gentle scratches if somebody brushes past and maybe even could take away completely from any damage but we're talking carbon-fiber body panels we're talking special paint colors multi-layer paint colors MSO paint colors so if something what's happen you just it's it's scary it's very very scary which is why those cars cost so much more than this because that's just Mercedes black and it doesn't have anywhere nearly as many carbon panels some of them are these front fenders for example those are carbon fiber but the bulk of the body isn't which means it's much less expensive if something happens and even let's talk about wheels if something happens to McClaren's ultralight central lock wheels on the centre those are really expensive whereas the AMG GT are ones albeit these are the lightweight option rxc wheels from AMG I think they're only a grand a grand and a half per wheel which comparatively is a huge huge huge difference so basically to run these means being aware of the mileage so having to transport them to lots of places and transporting cars can cost a lot of money as well don't forget if you want to send a car from let's say London to the Nurburgring you're looking at one or two thousand pounds just for that you want to send it to Monaco maybe even more the GT soon actually to be going in a truck down to Italy costs even more we're talking a couple of thousand pounds but I can't just go and put a thousand miles on it driving it down because of the insurance cost if you think about couple thousand miles a year for a five-figure sum for insurer the mileage or the cost of insurance per mile is actually really very very high as well some cases we could be talking about 10 pounds a mile it almost just for insurance that's really scary actually when you think about it like that way so they need to go by truck then here's another funny problem this is very much firstworldproblems if you want to do a trip with the GT or with the Sena you don't have luggage space you need another car to follow you with somebody driving it which means more hotel rooms wherever you go which is totally fine we're gonna be heading off on a a team trip with the GT also with the GTC fall or so for this we're Shmi tour so it doesn't matter at all that Lister has plenty of luggage space but it is a funny thing that you need to think about also lots of you guys asked me about the gumball 3000 will I do gumball in one of those unfortunately it's completely outside of possibilities because the insurance price for gumball alone would probably be enough just for a one-week road trip to actually buy the AMG GT are just to insure it for a week to give you some perspective and you have to put all of these things you know in your preference order and I would love to actually have attended the gumball 3000 this year but unfortunately like two years ago the dates are just a bit of a clash with other things i've got going on so i'm hoping to fly down to the start to at least be part of it and film some videos for you but i don't think i'll be able to take part unfortunately this time around so while I absolutely love driving these kind of cars as much as I am you can see why I'm also being conscious in the background of what they're actually costing and what the risks are to do with them now as I've kind of said before these are all basically keepers I have no plans to sell any of those four cars any time soon the Heritage RS also in the same boat at the moment the red RS because of the things we're doing with it the GTC Follis so maybe for two years three years I don't know what the future for that holds but these cars these keeper cars I want to maintain look after keep them fresh you know if you do too many miles in them one the car becomes a bit too familiar but - you also wear it out whether that's the Alcantara on the steering wheel or the interior in general or just picking up small nickels and little things small stone chips on the windscreen that kind of stuff the less you drive it the better and nicer and tidier it is which is completely ironic again but that's why other customers down the line care so much more the gt8 amusingly actually is sitting here with its front splitters on I don't normally have those installed but I came back from the drive the other week up to pro drive at the GTA club and left the bond afterwards despite it sitting here because I don't think there are any plans to take it out in the immediate future so yes sometimes I wish I had more time sometimes I wish I could just take the LT and go off on a journey but I'm so busy making these videos but also the other things that we do is should meet 1:50 the companies we're working with marketing all the different business side of things that it doesn't give the time that there was in the past just go off and drive so I go from press events to motor shows because it's the content right I think you guys enjoyed these videos and I quite enjoy doing that as well and obviously I do drive the cars off camera if I go out for dinner or something I'm hardly rolling a video about it and they do all find their way out so what's happening next well the big next trip is this year's where's Shmi and for this year's we're Shmi tour it's going to be based on taking this car down to Italy to have something done to it a few small little modifications being made then I'll be in the GTC for loose so for literally weeks to go all around we're starting in Germany where the car is we're going through Austria through Croatia into Italy across to France the top marks Monaco along the way so many stop offs and different events and even some flying bits as well and when we're in Italy will be picking back up the GT to go with the GT and the list so over to Monaco which I cannot wait for those two cars together is just going to be truly truly mega then after the we're Shmi tour I come back to the UK briefly sort some things out Goodwood Festival of Speed and the likes but then comes the big one here is the plan this car is going to be getting onto an airplane to fly to America the American supercar is going for an American adventure truth be told since I got my driving licence when I was about 17 years old I've plotted out here in the UK at 17 that's the legal limit I plotted out this route around the u.s. that I wanted to drive I've always gone back to it when I got my second car a BMW 1-series I went back to the drawing board that was when I was 21:22 planned again where I'd love to go if I put it on a boat and sent it over or something but now that I'm lucky enough to be driving this car it's the one it has to be done so that's the plan at the moment to send it over to start on the East Coast to head down towards Florida to go across country across the south over towards the west coast you can imagine all the events or summer activities pebble beach car week quail all of those different parts and they're lots and lots of epic stops along the way believe me lots and lots and lots of things that are going to be going on that isn't necessarily even going to be the end of the tour for this it might be a bit of a world tour that continues but I'll tell you more about that in the future as well so what else is there to tell you oh one other thing keep your eyes peeled something might be joining this lineup there's a color that's missing very very very soon and I don't mean the g63 the Supra or the Griffith something you didn't know about until this very point in time is coming right around the corner a color that is missing from the lineup so stay tuned for that I'm looking forward to revealing it it might be a bit of a surprise but nonetheless new Shamima Beale inbound but there we have it really a feel for thought a little bit of insight into well the costs of the center and the GT how they stack up how they compare I guess I didn't really touch on servicing the Ford it's a Ford they actually charged a very reasonable amount for the first oil change service because about five or six hundred pounds then the center I haven't had to service yet but it runs on the same schedule as the LT one year or ten thousand miles I think it will be one or two thousand pounds at the end of that list so Ferraris massive win for Ferrari there's seven years servicing a warranty package when you buy a Ferrari or an approved use or actually any Ferrari that is completely ideal so there servicing is again a sip pretty similar thing between the different cars like fuel and tires but uh yeah there's a bit of an insight into it all thank you very much watching I hope that's been informative and giving you a little insight as well into the plans for the wear Schmidt or the America tour with the Ford GT and where things are going to go after that as well with let's say a few more surprise arrivals later this year I'll tell you more about that very soon too so thank you very much as always guys for your support without you this wouldn't be possible and I can't say thank you enough but that's it for this time I'll be sure to see you again very very soon Cheers you
