what's going on guys today is going to be a little bit of a different kind of video but i think it's really important i feel like personal finance and just talking about money in general is kind of taboo and i don't think it should be that way so that's why in today's video i'm gonna be showing you how much exactly i made on my very first twitch payout as a twitch affiliate as well as how many hours i had to stream before i even got to that part and as well i'm gonna show you a couple different paychecks that i've gotten throughout the years just so you guys can get a better understanding of what it's like to be a twitch streamer and you can make a better decision for yourself whether this is something you actually want to get into so if that sounds good to you make sure to drop a like on the video to help other people find this video but let's jump right into it so first thing you got to do is head over to twitch.tv make sure that you're logged in go to the top right corner from there we're going to go ahead and click creator dashboard and we're to find our way over to the insights page which you can see on the left hand side here so click on insights and then channel analytics i'm going to blur this part out this is my most recent month for the month of let's say september because that's my last full month i'm going to blur this out so you guys can't see it so if you guys want to see this make sure to watch all the way to the end of the video but let's actually find the very first paycheck that i've ever gotten from twitch as a twitch affiliate so we're going all the way back to september of right about the 29th which i think was my very first stream ever back in 2017 this was over four years ago absolutely crazy to think about you know what's even more crazy i have one follower and my first follower ever is actually a mod for me and still watches my stream today so retro if you're watching this that's you my man that's who i'm talking about you're the best so obviously we haven't made anything because these are the first two days that we streamed on twitch ever which was the last two days of september so let's go on to the next month we streamed about four and a half hours about five maybe give or take so the next month the month of october we actually aren't affiliated quite yet and we streamed for about a little over 60 hours so zero dollars coming in 60 hours for the month of october we were averaging about two viewers give or take so i'm not quite sure if we had hit the affiliate status yet so let's go on to the next month so this is where we hit twitch affiliate so this is the month of november we have five and a half average viewers we got 91 followers which i feel like is pretty good starting off and our very first paycheck just to make sure we got this right the very first twitch paycheck we've ever gotten as a twitch affiliate was 12.95 and that's after streaming a hundred and twelve and a half hours for the month of november that does not include the 60 hours we had streamed the previous month so about close to 200 hours for about 13 so that was how much a whopping paycheck was for a very first affiliate paycheck on twitch so let's see if it gets better for the second paycheck let's see maybe we had just gotten affiliated halfway through the month i don't know let's see so if we hit right for the month of december okay we made close to 30 dollars but we stream for about 108 half hours so let's just bust out our handy dandy calculator to see what our hourly rate was so we're gonna round up to thirty dollars just cause maybe someone's feeling generous maybe they did a thirty cent donation who knows take our thirty dollars and it took us right about a hundred and eight and a half hours to earn that thirty dollars which makes a whopping 27 cents per hour now that's not too bad right i hope not let's just go on to the next month maybe january of 2018 2018 maybe rainbow skies from there let's see so let's go to january 2018 to the 31st and we actually made less money but to be fair we did stream significantly less time so if we go ahead and pull up the average on that let's round it up to 23 dollars by 77.5 hours we made okay okay almost 30 cents an hour that's actually not awful guys compared to what we had before you know i'll take that just for curiosity's sake i know it picks up i know it picks up because my channel did end up getting a lot of traffic i think i want to say in like march okay 150 hours 90 a little bit better but it's not the greatest i think march is probably the first like big paycheck okay so 168 dollars for a hundred and one and a half hours i mean you know it's like we're still starting out but that's probably my biggest one from there let's just go to the next month okay here we go now we're talking we made 856 dollars in the month of april so that's pretty good we got over a thousand four hundred followers almost 100 average viewers this is when my channel essentially blew up from a game that i was playing at the time you guys remember there's a game called welcome to the game two and i guess i was considered one of the top five people to like first beat it or whatever so i put in a bunch of hours as you can see 164 hours in order to do that and it paid off almost a thousand dollars it's actually really good for a month i actually haven't really had one of these really high paying months in a long time so that's actually pretty freaking good so let's actually just take the hourly on that just for shiggles we'll do 856 dollars divided by 164 hours that's 5.22 an hour compared to the whopping 27 cents an hour we were making before that's pretty freaking good but as you guys know with twitch and relying on people's generosity in order to basically pay your bills isn't exactly the most um safe thing okay so let's go to the next month i guarantee it's not gonna be anywhere near this because let's go next month boom 226 dollars still pretty good like honestly like when you're first starting out that's not bad that's going to pay you know a bill or two depending on what kind of bills you have go the next month 400 like now this is getting more respectable compared to the 27 cents an hour we're making before this probably still kind of close it really depends on like what you're streaming and how much traffic you're getting next month uh 300 next month uh 200 oh my god look at that look at that look at this we streamed 367 and a half hours and only made 235 dollars so this should be eye-opening for a lot of you out there who's like oh my god twitch is such a quick way to make money and sometimes it can be sure but just don't rely on all the times let's do 235 divided by 367 and a half hours i don't even know that's like streaming like freaking 18 hours a day that's ridiculous that's absolutely ridiculous what is it 63 cents an hour that's actually more than i expected but still that's actually disgusting i don't know why i streamed this much probably because i was going for the grind if someone ever tells you to go for the grind or the grind mentality don't listen to a man you're gonna burn yourself out don't the grind mentality is total nonsense don't fall for that all right so let's just go ahead and skip through let's go to like let's say my most recent one so right now we're in the month of october so i'm just gonna do september so september was the last big month that i just had this is like four years of streaming it's about 429 it's not bad especially since i only streamed you know less than 27 hours so if we take the hourly on that real quick let me bust out my calculator i don't know why i keep closing it so let's do 430 divided by let's say 27 hours that's more respectable it's about 16 an hour you know that's better than minimum wage in a lot of places but i've kind of gotten it down to a science where now i'm focusing on like shorter streams that i put as much quality and production value into it as possible instead of doing like 12 hour streams with just me talking like this and i hate my life you know i've managed to keep my streams extremely short and just like action-packed in my eyes maybe they suck i don't know you guys can let me know in the description down below in the comments if you guys have been there but also twitch link is in the description down below anyways so that's what i've been focusing on right so let's go and do august august we made eight hundred and ten dollars in that month that's actually really good if i'm being completely honest with you guys i usually average around four to five hundred dollars a month on twitch after doing this for you know four years so honestly like it's not full-time income but that's the part where i wanna talk to you guys about now i'm gonna switch to full screen this is where i really wanna stress you guys on being a full-time twitch streamer or content creator you cannot rely on just twitch being your like main income and i know a lot of you guys do and there's nothing inherently wrong with it but later down the road you're gonna have some really bad months and it's gonna stress you the heck out so that's why i always preach diversify your income streams cody what the heck does that mean that means making sure that you have different streams of income flowing in and twitch just being one of them sure you can have some banger months like i did like 810 for the month of august that's great right but the next month i think i only made half of that so it's like if i had a bill that was 800 and i only had 400 i'm screwed right so that's why i always suggest you guys work on different income streams whether that be like driving for uber on the side or if you just want to start a youtube channel like i have my youtube channel teaching you guys about this now and that's opened up several income streams from affiliate marketing to youtube ad revenue to my course on how to twitch stream which is in the description down below and just other things like that even sponsorships as well so i really just want to stress to you guys like how important it is to have multiple income streams and not having to rely on people's generosity for your well-being because sometimes it's not going to work out and it's going to be super stressful and you're going to wish you hadn't put yourself in that position but i really do want to talk about more personal finance when it comes to the life of being a twitch streamer so if you guys have any video ideas or anything you want to know about me being a twitch streamer content creator anything like that leave your ideas in the comments down below and i'd love to make more follow-up videos to this because talking about money should not be a taboo topic i'd love to talk to you guys more about it and help you guys out in any way that i can i'm going to be fully transparent with you guys i got nothing to hide so in the meantime make sure to drop a like on the video if this helps you out and watch these videos on the side here they're going to help you out too but my name is cody and i'll see in the next one
