so it's that time of year again the big craft season is upon us and to celebrate i am hosting my annual live and free master class the top insider tips to becoming an svg designer if you've been hearing about svgs but you aren't quite sure what they are or how they work or what all the hype is about maybe you've even heard one of the many success stories from others how a single stay-at-home mom provides for her family through selling svgs or how one woman replaced her corporate income within a matter of months selling her designs on etsy i'm totally raising my hand to that one or how crafters are now able to design whatever project they want without the limitations of silhouette studio or cricut design space then you'll definitely want to keep on listening to this because the increasingly popular cutting machines have made svg design a very sought after skill to have that's why in just a matter of days i am hosting my live master class where i share all the insider secrets i've picked up through the years since becoming an svg designer and seller i will also share with you an opportunity to join the designers course to svg files as well as give away some very good freebies which i have never done before so be sure to head on over to pinonposh.com forward slash masterclass to learn more and reserve your spot hey everyone casey here with pen and posh okay so one common question that i get asked a lot is how much money can i actually make selling svg files today so good question so today we are going to go through this i'll share stories that i've personally heard through the year and my own success story as well as actual proof actual data from my own etsy shop and also where you can go to find your own proof where to find real numbers so that you can decide if this is an area that you want to pursue whether it's high in demand or not and you'll have some real figures to go off of okay so first up is a podcast episode that i heard a while back um on the brilliant business moms podcast and i really enjoyed it because this mom was able to replace her income and have a full-time income um supporting her family um solely from selling svg files on her shopify store so on her personal website i sell mine on etsy she sells hers on her own personal website and again she's a single mom so this is their only income and i thought that it was really neat because she actually is in the process of building a house or at least when this episode came out and so that is an episode that i will be sure to link to below um it is an episode with bethany dasco i'm probably butchering that name but she's an svg designer at board and baton design and so you can go check out check that out uh click the link wherever you're watching this video and listening to that one and then on my own podcast the naptime hustle podcast i interviewed one of my students randy hayfin a little while back and the audio on that episode isn't too great but you can go listen to that one as well it's called from crocheter to svg designer a thousand sales in six months with randy hayfin and so um we go through just kind of her whole process of um being completely new to svg to design and transitioning from running a crochet business to um completely learning a new area and launching her etsy shop so her success was made from a etsy shop selling svg designs on etsy instead of like bethany's success story of selling hers on her own personal site so that's another fun one to go listen into and um and to hear the complete story of her transition and i had to throw my own personal experience with selling svg design so i was able to replace my income solely from selling svgs within the first six months i was able to replace my corporate income and i absolutely love it i had you know a bunch of people asking how do you design how do you design and i had come up with my own um process of converting my designs in adobe illustrator into svg designs and i had a lot of people asking me what's your process how are your cut files so high quality and they work every single time in the cutting program what have you done what is that process and so i decided to create a course called the designers course to svg files but just looking at my shop you know i've been we launched in 2016 fourth quarter of 2016 and we now have over 41 000 sales we also have 636 designs on our shop and 3 300 over 3 300 admirers so um we've definitely have seen a lot of success in a short amount of time now if you're wanting some actual data from my shop here it is so this is my um shop dashboard i zoomed in so that i wouldn't give any of my customer information out that's on the bottom of this page but check this out so i have a different part of my business where i podcast and where i teach my etsy course and so even with the other areas that we're in and even with only uploading like two designs a week we're still seeing 618 in revenue so yesterday and that's from this the past seven days so yesterday our sales were 78. today our sales so far it is almost four o'clock and they're at 65 so 6 over what they were yesterday and to me that is awesome because i have put little effort into our etsy shop and the fact that it keeps on generating this much money um is just a dream come true um you know a lot of what we make on etsy we get to keep because we don't have any overhead the only overhead that i have in this svg business is well now lindsay who manages the shop for me she's my assistant so i have that but the only other um overhead that i have is my software adobe illustrator and so i paid 20.99 a month that's covered just from like a few good sales and then the cost of that is taken care of so completely worth it in my opinion and definitely a low startup cost when entering this niche and even starting an etsy shop you don't have to put down any money i think you have to pay 40 40 cents per listing every four months or no sorry 20 cents i think it's 20 cents for every listing for four months and so um that is like next to nothing just to have products up and um like i said um just the startup cost for this business compared to other businesses is like next to nothing so um we can even go back to like 30 days and see what our sales have been so 2 500 like i said the majority of that we get to keep and i i just think that that business that this type of business is awesome we are what's today's date august 17 2020 and so um just to show you that these numbers are real they aren't from a while back um this is real data that we're seeing today and so um i don't think that you could get any more proof than that but that still doesn't say how much can you earn you know i am putting our efforts into i'm not just you know part of the shop you know lindsay operates and manages that for me now but i'm podcasting and i'm teaching this course and i'm doing other things and i decided to branch out and also um go a part different route because i love to be doing multiple things i love to be teaching people i love um to be switching it up i get very very sick doing the same thing over and over but let's just look at other people who have had success with selling svg designs too so let's go over and this is a testimonial page from some of my students who have taken my design course and the success that they're seeing so again a common question that i'm asked is okay is it really possible to earn passive income from selling designs um svg designs and yes absolutely so krista burch and pine design on her etsy shop she saw 800 sales just in the past month and she had only been open four and a half months so crazy um sarah she says i launched two months ago and i'm seeing a hundred sales during covid that's crazy and then randy that same um student of mine who i interviewed on the podcast a hundred or sorry a thousand sales in the first six months and then christy with crafty christie's creations um she made more in her first month than in the previous six of owning a etsy shop selling other products selling physical products and so um definitely definitely an area that is on the up and that people are seeing a lot of success in today and i could go on and on but i wanted to share with you a couple tools that you could be watching and using um as a way to see hey is this are people really making money at this is this really a thing and how much are they making and so this is craftcount.com um i'll be sure to link to this too and in craftcount.com these are all just successful shops successful shop selling items on etsy now this is everyone right um but if this is a hide a profitable area you would think that we could find some svg designers so let's take a look so top sellers by category i like to look over here in the digital um art not everybody not all svg designers are in the digital art area but a good thing to be watching for is if you see any svg design shops within like the top ten and look key here one of them is svg cutables now for some reason um craft count doesn't have these links these links are like broken so i'm going to type in her shop spg cut to bowls is that right did i get it right svg cuttables with 128 thousand 444 okay yes this is her so um this is jennifer obviously and jennifer is pretty much killing it and so all that she sells is svg cut files dxf cut files and let's go back to craft count so this is all the top sellers from august 17th and right up there at the top there is a shop selling svg designs and you look you know she's been on since 2015. i don't know if she has always been um creating svg cup files that's something that we don't know necessarily um but she has a hundred and twenty eight thousand um 754 sales um and i mean this shows this page on craft count shows that she was in the top three um in the top three of shops that had the most sales on august 17th within the digital art category so that to me is proof enough but if you want to go the extra distance you can create a an account on e-rank.com i use e-rank all the time i'm not affiliated with them i'm i just love them um and this is what you'll see so this is you know da stats from my own etsy shop but if you go up to up here to uh competition and let's just click on like top sellers um usually i'll even just like type some and i actually know what they are you can search like svg but i know a girl that's probably more than likely on here and already in in the top uh of the cellars on etsy and that's shorts and lemons um there's another girl oh what's her name cuttables yeah no so cute at pleaks applique as i always say epliques but let's open both of those girls these girls are killing it and they have been on the top seller list for years and i just love their shops so go check out their shops if you are buying svg designs they are so so cute okay so this is so cute appliques and um and you can see here you know um these are all just svg's svg files so she has been on for let's see her shop is six years old and this is how many sales that she has had during that time each day okay so let's just pull up the calculator and do the math so she is at 123.72 i am so sorry they are doing construction in my office building and it's really annoying um okay so and these are you know if you click the little question mark it says the average number of items this shop has sold each day since it was created okay and so um if we go over to her shop you know click on a listing and open it up in etsy then we can see how much it is and even go back to her shop and see how much each of her svg's are priced at okay and so she's right around like the lowest item is 355 is what i'm seeing so let's times this by 3 55 whoops oh no that's right okay wow so that is what she's making each day 439 on average that's just the average you know usually that it can fluctuate right and so that is insane definitely um is bringing she's bringing it in okay so great job melissa she is killing it for sure okay and now the other shop that we saw was shorts and lemons and if you've been following me you've heard me talk about her i just love her shop she focuses on t-shirt design so svg designs that are made to go on a t-shirt so they are completely ready um you can see her sales rank um is 10 for the us and so that is amazing like she is definitely bringing in and you can read it right here so the estimated national rank this shop has on etsy in terms of the number of items sold since the shop was created um so again her the average uh sale the average number of items that she has on her site or on her shop and she's been open 4.2 years on her shop is 181 and so if we go and we pull up 181.57 that's the number of sales she is earning each day and if we go open up her cute cute cute spgs and see where they're priced at let's see okay so she has hers priced at about 3.99 is the lowest that i'm seeing so 3.99 she's making 724 on average each day so just saying you do the math for the rest of the year but pretty much in short these people are making bank svg designs are definitely high in demand and there's proof out there that it is possible to make a living selling them so let me know if you have any questions i'd be happy to include any other figures or answer any questions be sure to hit subscribe and be sure to head on over to a free live master class that is coming up september 1st and 2nd and if you're seeing this after september 1st and 2nd of 2020 that's okay still go to pinaposh.com forward slash course and you'll learn more about it there all right i'll see you guys next time bye
