How I taught myself to sing (I used to be terrible) / You can learn anything you want!!

hey I hope you're having a wonderful day today I thought today we would do something a little bit different and answer a question that I got on Instagram dm's I wrote that in here can y'all hear TJ in the background what's up TJ I'm back yet at my parents house for today so excited get to see my dog TJ this is from Jessica she asks Justin how did you learn how to sing were you always good at singing no I have dreams of becoming a singer but I'm nervous to get started Jessica I totally understand where you're coming from to answer your first question no I was not always good at singing and I haven't appreciate that compliment thank you that you think I am good at singing but no I really never was good at singing at all when I got onto YouTube I started doing parodies and they were hilarious but obviously I didn't really know how to sing I'm gonna show you this now so this one is a private video on YouTube nobody can see this except for you guys right now I think I did this when I was 12 years old which is probably old to be doing this oh my gosh oh no this is us vocals oh I remember doing this video oh okay we're gonna stop on that okay so I hope you believe me now I definitely wasn't always the best singer again I started doing these kind of parodies that were just crazy and they were funny but after a while I was like okay I really need to teach myself how to sing because I wanted to get into doing actual covers or maybe like original songs I didn't know at the time but I was 12 years old I'm just like okay I don't know how to sing obviously but I want to learn so what i did is i YouTubed I searched everything I could I went on YouTube I searched vocal exercises different warm-ups different techniques about the throat and about the voice or about breathing breathing from your diaphragm right I just went crazy and I would spend about an hour a day literally doing the most ridiculous vocal exercises you could ever imagine so I just go like all day long or like haha you know things like that and I do that all day long prob about like one to two hours a day and then I'd spend another two hours just singing so I just start singing my favorite songs and you know after one to two years I improved and the thing is is that you know my friends were giving me a hard time it were making fun of me but I kept going you know I I didn't really listen to it I kept trying I kept giving it my best and eventually you get better right and so I think that's the biggest thing is that when you're starting to learn a new skill or when you're passionate about something and you're starting at the beginning your friends are gonna probably give you a hard time it just is what it is but don't listen to them don't listen to them keep going keep giving it your best every day do something to try to improve and you never know what could happen I mean after two months three months four months a year you never know where you could be and I know that sounds like a long time but if you're doing something that you're that you're honestly passionate about it it comes by really really fast the first two weeks it'll be difficult but then after you get past those two weeks you start to build a habit you start to really enjoy the process of doing it and that's when it's great because you can just get tons better okay brian is here at my house I think we locked him out I met my parents place here he comes oh oh I think we locked him out of the apartment when I came here I guess I locked the door he was taking the dog for a walk TJ get him TJ get okay I'm trying to remember what we were talking about basically your friends are gonna give you a hard time just push through it keep going I promise you give it give it give it at least two months and and you'll see a great improvement in whatever you're doing and in terms of for Jessica with her question I'm talking about singing advice for learning how to sing advice that's why you always have a case on your iPhone I would recommend just YouTube search it something that I did it was called singing success by Brett Manning I did that and that really taught me a lot of stuff they have tons of YouTube videos out another great one is Eric I think it's arson Oh Eric arson oh she's great I think if you just search like 10-minute vocal warmup he'll come up there's so many great resources on YouTube on google for you to learn and you really can I think the key is getting a habit of doing something every day so maybe pick like a great 30 minute vocal exercise slash warm-up you can do every day whether it's in the morning or on your haircut whether it's in the morning or at night or whenever just do it every day and that's when you're really gonna see results and then I also encourage you just to sing so sing your favorite songs try to voice match your favorite songs and the key really is just get started again this the fixed time good things don't happen overnight you got to put the work in but I promise you guys it's worth it and I really want to encourage you guys no matter what it is whether it's singing whether it's dancing cooking anything anything you're passionate about work on it every day and don't judge yourself every day don't try to get results every day give yourself five months say I am gonna commit to doing this one thing it's simple it just takes 30 minutes but I'm gonna commit to doing this every day for the next six months and you will be shocked at the results that you'll see so Jessica I hope that that helped you again just get started give yourself six months and you never know what could happen same for anybody else out there if you have a passion that you want to get better at you have a vision for yourself in the future that you want to make a reality just get started I have this creepy face staring at me while I was doing that video so I thought let's go ahead and play a little more because it's just too crazy I'm sorry guys I'm
