[Music] hi everybody i'm just coming home from logging this morning i have lady and bill with me in the trailer we spent a good morning in the woods [Applause] [Applause] i'm going to get these two unharnessed and brushed and fed and then i'm going to go in and have some lunch myself after lunch we'll get the perch rounds brushed and harnessed and ready to go mow some roadsides and clip around an electric picture come on now [Music] i bet you are so here i'm heading out with buck and ken to go do some mowing and i just want to tell you at the end of this video i'm going to give you an update on earl and his tumor also abby's going to tell you about something exciting we're going to be doing this saturday so to stay tuned to the end of the video to hear all about it [Music] is it made for that perfect [Applause] okay so it's time to mow the roadsides jim always uh does this in the spring and it makes everything look so much better the town comes through and does it but often they're later and this way he can get right up to the fence row as you'll see in a couple minutes [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] so all of a sudden we're all done that was not the plan though we were going to show jim mowing real close to the roadside but i accidentally pushed the wrong button on the gopro and everything zoomed real fast we had good footage of the cows watching and duke and earl were watching and they even winnied and followed along with a team and it would have been fun to show you guess it wasn't meant to be so here i am out in the back of the back field um mowing close to the fence post and we have an electric fence around all of our pastures and we just have one strand of electro fence which works fine as long as you keep the weeds down so it stays hot so i try to always keep the weeds down and of course most of it involves a weed eater going through and clipping all the weeds but on the years that i take the time and mow around the fence post closely with the machine it's all the less work that i have to do on the weed eater so when i do it this way i do it two different ways sometimes before i tell you i have a big old tree across right there i gotta get a chainsaw down here and get that cleaned up but anyways the two different ways i do it is sometimes i'll mow and try to go underneath the fence and come right up to the fence post and stop and then go out around and then try to zig zag back into underneath the fence sometimes i just go as close to that i can and kind of weave back and forth and try to miss all the fence posts and not you know not go up to it just go around and that's what i'm trying to do today but usually the process of doing this i take out if that's posted too but today i hit a few but i didn't actually break any which is good but this is a very hard thing to do with a pair of horses they just have a difficult time swinging back and forth of the machine and some horses do it better than other horses i've had horses that do this really good but i've had horses that just do not do it very good at all these two are doing fairly well as i was doing this i was thinking you know a lot of these local affairs and most local horse clubs have competitions friendly competitions of farm teams and this would be a great competition if someone was making these um having these competitions at their local horse clubs to have some fence posts set up in a hay field and have the driver drive around these fence posts and clip them the best they can and they'd have to have a judge i guess go through and decide which one does the best job but it is one of the harder jobs that you do with horses in my opinion it's quite tricky getting around and getting as much grass from underneath the fence cut without running into bed's pose on this fence here i have mostly wooden posts but i have a few of these small um little white that's supposed to be think what they are now five probably last time's close and of course you could be very careful they haven't hit them wrong right now but it's kind of fun in a way but kind of frustrating away also [Applause] one advantage of having just a single fence is if it's set at the right height a lot of the cows and horses can actually chew a lot of the grass out from underneath and so it's less sweet eaten and it's actually easier to mow because it's somewhat clean do sometimes i will wait and do this job after the hay field is cut and so that i can read back and forth a little bit better without going into standard hay there's just a section there of about you know two feet of grass there by the fence row it's a little bit easier but um i can't wait that long because with my fences if i don't get this grass away they're going to be shorting out and then my cattle will start getting out of the fence so that's why i chose to do at least some of them [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] what is some kind of thick you want it you want to do the next fence wrap thank you i tried last year because i know how hard it is just to try to mow hay say nothing about going around fence post that is gonna be a little hard to dry it's so tall no more manure please brenda's not very tall but as you can see this hay has done very well this year for early june okay let's go back to the barn and see duke and earl our suffolk punch colts and explain a few things about pearl okay so we have gotten the results back on earl's tumor so those of you that haven't been watching our videos closely we had a video a little while back on a tumor that earl or southwark cult here had on his butt and peach my vet came and actually took it off and we had it sent away to cornell to see exactly what it was um she thought one thing then she thought nothing wasn't quite sure what it was and nobody would have until we got it tested through through uh cornell so we sent it down there and we found out it is a little worse than we thought it was originally so she wasn't able to get it all out partially because of the amount of anesthesia she had in it was just a local thing and so she did the best she could with what she had time for to do so now we have two or three other options and i will actually read my text from her to tell you what's going on um so uh i'm not going to read it but uh so it is a s brenda's here so maybe i'll get here to help me uh ex sarados sarcoidosis yes i hope you heard that tumor and uh so so we couldn't go any deeper to get completely velvet out and so um she texts me back and has been talking with another vet to see what they should be doing and so we have like about four different options so she can um put him under general anesthesia and take a lot more of it out and hopefully or maybe get it all she can also do a caustic paste topical but that had to be done many times multiple applications and it's just a challenging area you know back here to do that and then there's also a chemo which would be injected into the tumor what's left of the tumor and there's also an immune system stimulant that can be given but unfortunately she says that none of these um none of the none of these options are more successful than the other so it's really hard to know what to do that we want to do so i'm going to be talking more with her and uh to find out what we will do but that just gives you an update he's doing great right now um he is the the surgery has pretty well completely healed um everything's good there and he's back to normal um but we still do have the problem that we've got to deal with and uh hopefully things will go well with that and i'll keep you updated as to what we will do um in the near future with him but anyways i love that things are going great around here okay so now we'll go to what abby wants to talk to you about uh at least to some of you so on this coming this uh next saturday that's coming up um we have kind of something special going on and i'm going to let you let abby tell you about that hey everybody uh so i just wanted to let you know about something exciting we're trying for the first time on saturday and this is something that we've been talking about doing and we're hoping to do more of in the future but we just want to try it out um this is going to be specifically for our patrons on patreon um so if you are interested in becoming a patron or you want more information on that our there's a link in the description below and we can also put a card up for it um and so you can click on that and find more information but we're going to be doing a zoom meet and greet slash question and answer time on saturday this coming saturday june 12th at 2 pm eastern time and we chose 2pm because we're hoping that it might accommodate different time zones i know we have a few patrons right now that are from europe so hopefully that will be a good time for you and if not maybe we'll do it again at a different time but hopefully some of you can come and join us we are looking forward to hearing some of your questions maybe hearing about your farms or just if you have questions for us or want any more information you know you can come and ask us so um if you have questions about this then you can put them below in the comments or if you're not familiar with zoom and you're not sure how that works you could also comment below and we can do our best to help you as much as we can get that going but we're really excited to meet some of you somewhat face to face and um learn more about what you're doing and how you're working with horses or not working with horses or if you have questions um so yeah we're very excited for this and um it's gonna be i think it's set up for like 40 minutes so we're going to start with that and like i said we hope to do more things like this in the future so we're looking forward to this and hope to see a lot of you there i hope you enjoyed the video and we'll talk to you guys later [Music] you
