hello and welcome to crouton crackerjacks today i'm going to show you how you can make your own bacon egg and cheese mcmuffins the mcdonald's way right at home these sandwiches are great you can make a whole bunch of them on the weekends wrap them up in wax paper throw them in the freezer and then during the week whenever you want breakfast on the go pop one in the microwave and you have breakfast ready to go without having to go through the drive-through these are the ingredients that you'll need so let's get started i'm going to start off of course by making up some bacon if you don't like bacon or don't want bacon on your mcmuffins you know you can go ahead and leave it off if you want sausage or canadian bacon you can go ahead and make those as well but i'm using bacon here because that's what i like my mcmuffins with and each sandwich is going to get one slice of bacon that has been cut in half and then once those are done go ahead and remove them from your griddle and let them drain completely on a paper towel and next up you want to go ahead and grill your english muffins so i went ahead and cleaned off my cast iron griddle and i'm going to put about a teaspoon of vegetable oil on there as well as about a half a tablespoon of butter and i'm just going to melt that butter in with the vegetable oil the butter is what's going to give you flavor the vegetable oil is going to prevent your butter from burning but you just want to swirl that around on your griddle and once the butter stops foaming you know that your griddle is up to temperature now go ahead and take your english muffins that have already been split in half and place them cut side down now one thing you will notice when you grill your english muffins is they will have a tendency to dome up and the only part that will actually grill is the very edge so i just like to take some small cans they're heavy enough to weight the center of the english muffin but they're not heavy enough to actually smoosh the english muffin so that will give you enough weight in the center so that way they grill nice and evenly and you just want to grill these for a few minutes until they are nicely golden brown so go ahead and remove those off onto a plate and again clean your griddle and then we can start working on the eggs now for the eggs mcdonald's uses egg rings for their eggs i know most people don't have egg rings so i'm going to be using these they're the rings that go on white mouth canning jars and these work absolutely perfect for egg rings they're about three and a quarter three and a half inches wide across or so but i'm going to go ahead and spray those with some nonstick spray as well as my griddle here now if you don't have these wide mouth canning jar rings you can also use round cookie cutters or biscuit cutters you used to be able to use tuna fish cans however they don't have bottoms that you can cut off anymore pineapple tidbits still have bottoms you can cut off but the tops are kind of funky anyway once your griddle is up to temperature you want to go ahead and crack an egg in each one of your egg rings here now you're going to need one egg for each sandwich and i'm doing two sandwiches here and i'm just going to pinch the yolks here to break them and kind of spread the yolk around inside the white a little bit mcdonald's has a special tool that they use for this i don't have that so i'm just going to use my finger and i'm going to take a smaller cast iron pan you can use whatever kind of cover that you have and you want to cover that and then put in about two tablespoons of water and you're going to baste these eggs basically what's happening is that steam is going to cook the top while the heat from the pan is going to cut the bottom and after a couple minutes you can go ahead and take that cover off and you can see that these egg rings makeshift egg rings come off nice and clean go ahead and take them off be careful because they are hot so use a pair of tongs now the centers of these eggs will not be completely set so i'm going to go ahead and flip them and cook them for an additional 20 to 30 seconds just to make sure that everything is cooked all the way through and then we can go ahead and assemble our sandwiches now to actually assemble these uh you want to go ahead and take some pasteurized processed cheese product also known as craft singles use whatever kind of cheese that you want i like using craft because it's nice and melty go ahead and put a slice on your bottom english muffin and then top that with your little round eggs again one for each sandwich here and then finally you want to place your meat whatever meat you choose to use in my case it is bacon you want to place that right on top of the egg and then go ahead and put the top of the english muffin on your sandwich and put it in the microwave for about 20 seconds just to make sure that everything is nice and warm and your cheese gets a little bit melty on you and there you go that is how you make your very own bacon egg and cheese mcmuffins the mcdonald's way right at home if you want to go ahead and save these for later wrap them in wax paper and throw them in the freezer in a ziploc bag and then when you want a breakfast to go go ahead and take one out and pop it in the microwave and you've got breakfast ready in just about a minute if
