[Music] [Music] hey good morning everybody welcome back to another episode of concrete with the hosses um it is about quarter after seven and uh it's still pretty dark out however the mixers here we're gonna start working underneath the uh lights of the trucks uh it's pointless to show you because you can't see it but we have our driveway turn around formed up here with the border uh formed up uh everything's wired and re-barred we have chairs underneath the wire and rebar so uh i don't even know if it's worth setting up the camera right now because it's still pretty dark okay so while we wait for tommy matt and stan to get a great pin set me and jim are going to spread some wire here and even though we have chairs underneath that it still helps to keep that wire up [Music] [Music] okay so pads one and half of two or four straight edged and bull floated we have truck number two that's going to finish us off here and then we have our third pad all wired and re-barred we have chairs underneath it ready to go [Music] number three pad is poured straight edged and bull floated and look who decided to show up just in time for some rain so we had to cover pads one and two but you know it was only spitting a little bit however it does help to keep the moisture off so we're gonna go ahead and get our cuts laid out start edging get this ball rolling so we got truck one cut we got truck one cut and uh since we got hit with that little bit of mist we have some water lingering on the top so we're going to give it a few minutes let that water dry off get it rubbed everything reopened and then get it brimmed waiting on truck two to tighten up a little bit so we can finish this cut running down and then get our other cut in uh looks like matt's may be going for it now [Music] [Music] so that's what we're looking for edges nice and cleaned up nice and smooth tool joints in opened up nice and clean we'll let that tighten up and get a nice tight broom on it you guys are working on this pad now that rain's not helping there's nothing on radar within a hundred miles but yet it's dripping on us well they got it all poured uh then we had a little uh rain move through so hurried up and covered everything up we just uncovered that pad letting it dry a little bit we're gonna re-broom it um it looks pretty good just got a couple plastic marks in it and the concrete's still a little bit soft but once you get that rain water on top you don't want to touch it and work it into the concrete just let that evaporate off and then give it a new broom see we just got a couple marks out there uh we'll go ahead and take care of that we're getting ready to uncover this the sky is looking a little bit better over there i hope that comes this way uh we still need to finish this one nice and soft underneath there nice and safe so no rain in the forecast today okay so the concrete's pretty tight but it's just cleaning up that broom mark from the plastic looking actually really good so i'm going to hit this and i'm going to get a coat of sealer on it right away hopefully it's supposed to dry a little bit it's rings again just get a little bit of this footage was it dripping off the house or something that's sweater up here i didn't notice it dripping off the house but it very well could be that wind i'll hit the other side so now i might start making sense uh we have these borders we're gonna pour an exposed aggregate we just moved this form out two feet we have the two feet down the center same thing we moved this form over uh two feet as well the guys are pulling the last one right now [Applause] same thing 24 inches off of the front edge so the whole perimeter will be wrapped with a border as well as separating down the middle so we have the four pads in every section uh that last one is just about ready to broom it hasn't rained for about a half an hour so i think we're in the clear and i know i've said that before so tomorrow we'll come down and we'll pour this all in exposed aggregate just getting a couple uh pins tied in we don't need too many this round is so solid uh about every four or six feet [Applause] not more than 30 seconds ago i said it hasn't rained for about a half an hour and it just started raining real light real life it's not even hurting us so we'll go ahead and get this all brown and a light coat of sealer on it do [Music] okay last two pads getting the light coat of sealer on it i just like a nice light coat and it'll dry quicker with the thread of rain and right back in your face that's really all there is to it on a nice day piece of cake on a rain day not so much fun okay so it's the next morning i know it looks like nighttime still very overcasty we have uh we've got our rebar all in place we have a couple sticking out uh for the driveway that goes around to the barn uh our intersections uh really just beat those up everything's tied and in place so like i said earlier all these ribbons all the border is exposed aggregate the mixer should be here shortly i just went around with a grinder and some of this stone was below our concrete height so i just took a grinder and cleared off the bottom uh that way all the stone is on top of the concrete not not uh in it or under it um looks like we're about ready we'll get expansion joint cut for around the house we were talking back and forth on whether to do expansion joint here or just go concrete the concrete and we're re-barred in real good i think it's a nicer look when we do concrete to concrete uh so that's what we're gonna do here and it'll be separated by a day's pour so that's what we're gonna do so we took our plastic from yesterday and cut it into perfect squares right on top of the pads just for a little bit of protection now if it drips it doesn't matter not the end of the world so we'll start in the middle and work our way back hopefully that shoot doesn't break so it's just a slow process uh we'll get a guy holding the expansion joint and uh star porn [Music] [Music] like i said it's a slow process nice to take your time and be nice and neat a little bit faster [Music] [Music] so [Music] okay onto the last side right here here and here we like the concrete nice and stiff uh not splashing the stone not making any mess [Music] [Music] okay comb stretch just want to give this a nice little mix here where we start at the kill them on top thing [Music] [Music] so the concrete's been on the ground about 15 or 20 minutes just starting to edge everything and get it all cleaned up we just want to put a nice rolled edge you don't want to leave this inner line because you might see that in the exposed so we try not to leave that line and just roll the edge so again put it on time lapse and you can watch us do that so we're just stringing these straight on through snapping a line on there and that'll be our cut so right down the centers these will all connect our intersections and then center as well just got to do these up here [Music] okay after the cuts are all in everything's dead just want to come down over the floating trout [Music] making sure the tip of the float rides on that concrete we don't want to have a little bump there [Music] i like that i like to take my trowel just cut that in just a little bit deeper to ensure that crack's going to go there and not here or there so everything is tried nice and smooth now we just have to take our edgers and what we want to do like all this slop here you just want to re-roll that back ever so slightly right like that just a nice defined line [Applause] notice how i'm not letting this inner line touch at all just re-roll [Music] oh continue that around the whole perimeter and the middles [Music] so once more this is what we're looking for for the exposed aggregate just nice true corners trout smooth edged nice so now we'll go ahead and spray our surface retarder on here and we put two nice coats on there you don't want to miss any spots uh so nice two two applications of it and then we'll go ahead and get it covered up with some black plastic and it's important to use black plastic so the sun doesn't come through and bleach it and change the shades black plastic that's what i'm looking for just a nice fairly heavy coat it doesn't matter if you hit the existing concrete it'll wash right off and it won't hurt that concrete it's already sealed and secured so i always give it a good heavy coat let it set a couple of minutes and repeat it's kind of a greenish color so looking back at it see if you can pan that and get it in the way you can really tell if you miss spots [Music] okay finished up second coat everything is totally saturated you can see it's just gathering in the joints won't hurt anything that'll just wash out tomorrow covering it up with black plastic we've done it both ways where we cover it and we don't cover it it just comes off a lot easier when we cover it to get it through the night [Music] okay everything's covered weighted down so we'll uh put up our caution tape around the perimeter again that way anybody knew showing up here hopefully they don't walk on it so we'll be back in the morning uncover and power wash see you then all right everybody we're back over here at the driveway exposed aggregate border job that we did yesterday i have our power washer hooked up over there the water's cycling through it now so we don't have any air running through the lines i'm gonna go ahead and just kind of uncover one section at a time that way it's gonna help to keep it from drying out and makes it a little bit easier to to expose the aggregate hence the name exposed aggregate so after we pull the plastic off you can kind of see it still has a little bit of a green tinge to it still looks a little bit um not wet but there's definitely some moisture still on the border and once i get it uncovered i'll give you a better better view of it but i am anxious to get going and show you guys this i know a lot of people have been asking to see some exposed aggregate [Applause] so ideally what you want is for exposed aggregate to look like this after you uncover it see how my fingers still rough it up that's good this is going to come off easy now stuff like this it looks a little bit drier 99 percent of the time this comes off but we had air getting under the plastic and drying this out that's why this looks like it so this is going to be a little bit not difficult to get off it's just not going to the cream isn't going to come off like this over here however no big deal we'll get it power washed off i need to put my boots on let me grab my wand the water should be good and cycled through now what you want to make sure when you're hooking up your power washer is that you have water coming out right like that if you start running air through your power washer it's gonna it's gonna cause a lot of problems i do want to say before i fire up the power washer if you've never done this before and you're gonna try doing it yourself understand that you're going to end up power washing the same spot about 18 000 times before it's actually cleaned also you know it you're not just power washing you know this stuff here you're going to be power washing the siding the garage doors the stone work pretty much everything in a 15 to 20 foot vicinity you're going to be power washing because that slurry will go everywhere so we're going to get the power washer fire fired up and get going [Music] hey see what i mean we did this one two by two square and we have slurry all over the stone all over the garage door there's no clean way to do this there's no easy way to do this so you just always have to make sure to come back and power wash that off that is the best way possible to do that [Music] [Music] so [Music] okay everybody here it is all of the bordering is exposed and cleaned see how it just kind of accents this whole entire area so yeah that's a wrap for here well almost we got good bit good bit of concrete left to pour sorry it's been a long week uh we're doing a driveway here a driveway coming out around here driveway there front sidewalks so but for now the turnaround's done hope you guys enjoyed it [Music] you
