Holy Spirit Power | Dunamis

all right who remembers what i told you i was going to talk about tonight or to what i forgot you guys got to remind me what am i supposed to talk about tonight power and authority part two okay you guys remember what we talked about last week authority okay remember what the greek word was dunamis is tonight remember what what exosia good job last week was exceucia authority tonight is dunamis power we love you so much but i thank you for this opportunity to come and gather together to worship you but i pray that our worship was pleasing to you and is exalting to you lord now as we open your word i pray that your holy spirit would come and speak to us or that you would fill us with the holy spirit whether we would hear your voice it would follow you or that you would sanctify us we praise you we thank you in the name of yeshua amen all right so just a quick review from last week excercia is authority we talked about how it's delegated authority uh that we as ambassadors are representing the king and so we come in his name we come in his authority and it is he gives us his authority because we are his ambassadors that makes sense you guys remember all that so tonight we're going to talk about dunamis exosia is intangible that was something i talked about last week it's not something tangible it's just people just obey because it's you have the authority it's positional it's delegated and people recognize the authority and they obey same way with demonic spirits and things like that they recognize the authority of yeshua in your life and so they obey it doesn't have to have any kind of power attached to it it's just the authority of the one you represent you're representative of yeshua you have the authority of yeshua and so the the enemy will flee because of the authority of yeshua in your life now some of us need to realize the authority we have and exercise that authority at times the enemy likes to tell you that you don't have that authority he likes to make you think that um that he has some kind of power over you when he doesn't but remember last week we talked about how we yeshua has given us authority over the power of the enemy okay and so the authority is very big deal and tonight we're going to look at dunamis dunamis is the tangible power and this word dunamis refers to power might strength and ability and it's where we get the word dynamite so you think about dynamite dynamite it's powerful it's explosive it can be used for good things or for bad things but it's a very powerful weapon and so that's what dunamis is is the power of the holy spirit and so let's look at luke 9 1 again this is a the verse we looked at last week then he called his 12 disciples together and gave them power and authority over demons and to cure diseases dunamis is this power and so let's go over to acts 1 verse 8. let's see what yeshua said there he said but you you shall receive power when the holy spirit has come upon you and you shall be witnesses to me in jerusalem and in judea and samaria and to the ends of the earth so we see that this dunamis this power does not come from inside of us it comes from the holy spirit he said you'll receive this power when the holy spirit has come upon you now how many times i mean just think about how many times throughout the bible you've heard the phrase and the holy spirit came upon them and they did this the holy spirit came upon them and they prophesied the holy spirit came upon them and they did some kind of mighty mighty act you know like a great example of this is samson if you you flip to the book of judges and you look at sam so i'm just going to read one example of this judges 14 5-6 it says so samson went down to timnah with his father and mother and he came up to the vineyards of temna now to his surprise the young lion came roaring against him and the spirit of the lord came mightily upon him and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat though he had nothing in his hand but he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done so samson if you look through the book of judges you see this this is a phrase that you're going to see a lot the spirit of the lord came upon them and they did this and samson is one of those great examples of that that when any time he did some kind of a magnificent feat it was because the spirit of the lord was empowering him to do that and i think it's interesting that you know most of the time when we think about samson we imagine or we you know draw it out or you know when we have a movie and they acted out they always picture him as this big muscly bodybuilder looking guy like the rock or you know something like that right arnold schwarzenegger you know this big muscly guy and i have a feeling that samson was probably just an average looking guy because they said what is the secret of his strength if he looked like the rock you know if he's like six six and 300 pounds of muscle i mean they wouldn't have to ask what's the secret of this guy's strength they say he can he can bench press a truck i mean that's why he's strong i mean look at him he's got muscles everywhere i have a feeling that samson was probably just an average looking guy and they said i don't know what his strength is he can rip a lion apart with his bare hands where does he get the strength he can pick up the gates of the city where does he get his strength it's not because he had big muscles it's because the spirit of the lord came upon him and gave him power and when did that power leave right i mean if if it was just his it didn't matter if he shaved his head his muscles would have still been able to work right but he gets his hair cut and all of a sudden he has no strength anymore right so his power you know and obviously this his hair wasn't what made him strong it was the holy spirit working in his life that made him strong but it was because he had rejected all the things that god has done in his life he rejected the covenants you know he had made a he had made an azerite vow since he was in the womb basically and he was not supposed to drink any alcohol he was not supposed to touch a dead carcass and he was not supposed to get a haircut he did all of those things but it wasn't until he got his hair cut that all the power finally left him was like okay you've broken every part of this covenant broken every part of this bow the lord is departing he gave him plenty of opportunities plenty of chances and even though samson was not a really righteous guy i mean you look at his life he was he was chasing women he was jason philistine women god still used him so we think about our life and we think well yeah i'm just not i'm not just i'm not up to status i'm not up to par i'm not holy enough i'm not righteous enough god use people like samson just because you don't feel like you're holy enough you're not like moses doesn't mean that god can't use you in some way right you look throughout the bible and almost everybody in the bible the bible's pretty honest about it it shows us their flaws it shows us when they make mistakes it shows us when they fall short and then it also shows us that they repented or if they repented or not another example of uh the spirit of the lord coming upon people is in the prophets right it says the spirit of the lord came upon so and so and they prophesied we see this all throughout the bible over and over again you see the spirit of the lord came upon them and they prophesied and even with someone like saul king saul okay listen what it says in first samuel 10 10 and 11 it says when they came there to the hill there was a group of prophets to meet him then the spirit of god came upon him and he prophesied among them and it happened when all who knew him formerly saw that he indeed prophesied among the prophets that the people said to one another what is this that has come upon the son of kish is saul also among the prophets king saul you know we know this the history of king saul he was not a great king you know he had a history of uh faltering and turning away from god and eventually it says that the spirit of the lord left him and it just god just abandoned him and he took the anointing off of saul and put it on david and when that happened that really made a big difference in saul's life you know he went from having the anointing of god in his life to being tormented says that a tormenting spirit would come to saul and torment him but it's interesting that the spirit of the lord came upon him and he prophesied he wasn't before that he wasn't a prophet he had never prophesied before and i i don't remember that he prophesied after but he prophesied the spirit of the lord came upon him and he prophesied now there are in the bible they're basically two sources for this type of spiritual power and really it's not just in the bible i would i would argue that there is only two sources this kind of power and it's either the holy spirit or some other spirit some wicked evil spirit some demonic spirit and so when someone has some kind of supernatural power they're either receiving from the holy spirit or they're receiving it from some other kind of spirit and the bible tells us to test the spirits have discerning of spirits and to know whether the spirit is from the lord or if it's not and so you have false prophets who come and they prophesy falsely not by the holy spirit right you have all these different religions in the world too and they do miracles you know you can you can look through some of these other religions and they have miracles they do things they have healings they have different things that have happened over the centuries that they are credit to their gods even in even in the first century the the romans and the greeks the gods that they worshipped the reason they worshiped those deities those idols was because they saw some kind of a power in them they received some kind of power from them it was demonic but people would receive healings did you know that speaking in tongues was actually something that plato wrote about plato the greek philosopher who lived before yeshua was born wrote about speaking in tongues it was it was a it was an act that the pagans even participated in that there was there was a they would get possessed by some kind of spirit and they would speak in other languages that interesting so we have something that the holy spirit does it's recorded in the book of acts and first first corinthians 12 13 and 14 they're the gift of tongues spoken of by the holy spirit but then we have writings from these greek philosophers and pagans talking about some kind of a gift of tongues it's different where does that one come from you know we have today we have people talking about this kundalini right that the this this is a hindu that this hindu religion has infiltrated and and people are having you know this kundalini spirit that's is leading them into doing all kinds of weird stuff and so we've got to have discerning of spirits we've got to know where is this where's the source of this power just because someone has some kind of a supernatural power supernatural gift doesn't always mean us from the holy spirit so you've got to test the spirits remember yeshua warned about false prophets who would do miracles it would work wonders and signs miracles he says that they're false prophets and false teachers so what spirit is leading them what spirit is empowering them so there's two sources of power that we see in the bible and saul after the spirit of the lord departed from him the bible says that he went to seek after that other power source he went to seek from the power source that wasn't the holy spirit we see this in first samuel 28 verses 6 and 7 it says and when saul inquired of the lord and the lord did not answer him either by dreams or by urum or by the prophets then saul said to his servants find me a woman who is a medium that i may go to her and inquire of her and a servant said to him in fact there's a woman who is a medium at indoor the word medium there it means someone who consults with spirits it says you know some translations may say who has a familiar spirit depending on what translation you have a mason medium they say necromancer may say one who has a familiar spirit may say a witch various translations translated differently but it means a woman who speaks to the spirits or someone who speaks to the spirits is what he's referring to and so saul went to find this witch to try to get answers he he didn't get answers from the prophets he didn't get answers from the lord his prayers weren't answered and so instead he decided well i'm going to go seek some other power and he went to talk to a witch to get supernatural spiritual power from another source and this source of power is i would argue what all other religions access whether it be muslims or buddhists or hindus or wiccans any other pagan kind of religion you may think of if they're not accessing the holy spirit for their power what's the other option the only other option is that they're accessing the other spirits the unclean spirits demonic spirits and this is what paul says in first corinthians 10 it says rather that the things which the gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to god and i do not want you to have fellowship with demons and some translations that were gentiles may say the pagans or the heathen they basically mean the same thing so a gentile is someone who is outside of the covenant a pagan or heathen is someone who worships other gods and the terms are used pretty interchangeably in the bible but he says that the things that they sacrifice to their gods they're sacrificing to demons so he's saying that they're idols the gods that they worship their demons they're worshiping demons they're praying to demons and so if they receive any kind of supernatural power is they're being given that power from those demons the bible doesn't deny that demons have supernatural power the bible just tells us not to seek that power right so deuteronomy 18 verses 10 11 says there shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire or one who practices witchcraft or a soothsayer or one who interprets omens or a sorcerer or one who conjures spells or a medium or a spiritist or one who calls up the dead okay he's saying there should not be that that type of thing among god's people you should not be seeking after those types of things the cult types of things witchcraft sorcery spells incantations all those kinds of things and so you know when you see things when you're watching uh movies tv shows things like that that have to do with witchcraft sorcery paganism that shouldn't happen you shouldn't be watching and approving of those things you're allowing that into your life shouldn't be doing that you're playing board games i know there's a lot of board games that have to do with magic video games talking to the teenagers and the kids get it out of your life okay if you've got stuff in your house that has to do with witchcraft and magic you're allowing the enemy access into your home you've got dungeons and dragons or some kind of game like that where where you're dealing with the occult witchcraft sorcery you're giving the enemy access to your life get it out of your life we should not have that kind of thing in our home we should not have that kind of thing in our life don't open those doors that power comes from demonic spirits they worship the pagans they worship demons the bible says now i've heard musicians and actors talk about how they receive power from some kind of a spirit that comes upon them too i've seen numerous interviews of various actors and musicians all saying the same kind of thing that when they get up to do their performance something comes over them and it's like it's like something just took over and it's not even them anymore i mean i've heard robin williams say things like that i've heard uh johnny depp say stuff like that i've heard people say that stuff like that about marilyn monroe years and years ago people had reported that that you know when she was just not acting she was pretty boring but then you put in front of a camera and all of a sudden she's a different person here things about these modern singers people who are right now singing they say that when they get up on stage that something just takes over it's like possession well that's what it is these demonic spirits are going into these people and you know what just like what yeshua said when the holy spirit has come upon you you'll receive power it's the same thing with them when the evil spirit comes upon them they have power and they're able to do all kinds of amazing things and i i heard a story about a guy years ago i think it was like in the 50s or something this black kid wanted to learn how to play guitar i don't remember his name and he couldn't play anything it was he was horrible and he made a deal with the devil and then he was like fantastic at the guitar does anybody know that story robert johnson yeah i couldn't think of his name yeah and so he went to he went to a bar and he tried to play and he was terrible and booed him out he came back and he played and they said it was fantastic it was like a totally different person playing because that evil spirit gave him his ability he had no talent of his own but his when he was overcome by that dark spirit that evil spirit he could play all kinds of stuff you know how many musicians have said that kind of stuff they say that they just have the this this ability they do these fantastic things they don't even know where it comes from some of them do actually know where it comes from they they give them praise and they give them honor they they thank satan for the power but a lot of them don't even realize that's where it comes from same thing with witches palm readers astrologists mediums magicians new age healers they're all working in the demonic realm they're all working under demonic powers with demonic powers the bible says that we have a greater power though we have the power of the holy spirit the power of god is greater than the power of demons but how many christians do we see walking around in that power and authority we have the authority of yeshua the king of kings lord of lords we have the power of the holy spirit and yet how many of us are actually walking in that authority walking in that power you know so many times we see somebody who's who's sick and we're like hey i'll pray for you not right now i'm gonna i'm kind of busy right now i'm gonna go in my way but i'll write you down on my prayer list and i'll take care of it later we need to just you see somebody who needs prayers stop and pray for them and pray with authority pray with the power of the holy spirit calling on god to actually do something in that person's life believing that person can actually be healed believing that the holy spirit can actually use you you know i think so many times and i'm guilty of this you pray with like kind of a half-hearted prayer like not really believing that it's actually going to do anything but gotta go through the motions how many of you guys have ever done that hope is not just me i feel like i've been doing that this week honestly you know i started preparing this message two weeks ago right and last week i talked about authority and this week i'm talking about power right a big chunk of this is about the power of prayer for healing and this week i've been sick you guys can hear it in my voice probably monday i had really bad allergies tuesday i started getting sinus congestion and chest congestion had a horrible cough all week my throat sore and i prayed i prayed pray that god would heal me but i also took some benadryl and it took some pseudo-fed and took some mucinex dosed up on vitamin c b12 um i mean just everything that's in the medicine cabinet i was you know dosing up on trying to get whatever this is out of my system and i friday yesterday as i was kind of putting the finishing touches on this message i kind of felt convicted about that because instead of pressing in and seeking god and seeking him to heal me i was going to the medicine cabinet i prayed i mean it it wasn't that i didn't pray i prayed but i don't think i prayed the way i should have been praying you remember when malia was in the hospital and we prayed i mean we prayed like we never prayed before behalf this church was fasting and people were praying around the clock and malia was miraculously healed okay i mean they she was healed of stuff the doctors didn't even know she had like they found out later when they started looking at the test results they were like wow you had this too and now it's gone i didn't even know you had that like she was miraculously healed because we we pressed in we were persistent with prayer we prayed with faith believing for her healing and we prayed with urgency right and we knew that the situation was serious we prayed with urgency you know i've got i've got a sinus infection yeah is it that urgent no i'm not on my deathbed so when i pray about my sinus affection they pray with the same kind of earnestness that i pray for malia i think that's something we need to realize is that just because the situation is not as serious doesn't mean it doesn't require a seriousness of a prayer our prayers should be just as serious for someone who has the sniffles as it should be for someone who's on their deathbed we pray with that kind of earnestness and authority and faith that's something that i felt convicted about and you notice i still got my sniffles so after this is over i'm gonna have you guys pray for me okay that sound good but back to what i was saying the the witches the palm readers the astrologers the mediums they all get their power from from the dark spirits from their unclean spirits from the demonic spirits and things like martial arts yoga eastern meditation those kinds of things are what they used to channel those spirits i know a lot of people they think that martial arts okay i don't think so if you've done any study in martial arts it is very much a spiritual thing now it's one thing if you want to you know exercise and do some kicks and punches and you know punch a punching bag or something like that and exercising and learn how to do self-defense that's one thing but the martial arts themself the eastern religious martial arts they all have to do with the religion they all have to do with their spiritual practice and when they do stuff like you know like in karate and they yeah you know and they punch through a brick or something they are channeling spiritual power to do that and that's what they tell you if you listen to any of these martial artists they'll tell you that that's when they the words that they say they're speaking a word of like power that calls on that spirit to give them their ability to punch through that wall you know you see this little tiny guy who can break 12 bricks with one punch it's not because he has so much muscle you know again it's like samson he's like this little tiny guy is not that strong and you know you think about what what about his knuckles why didn't that brick just tear through his knuckles it's because he's channeling supernatural power yeah i understand he's probably practiced a lot too and he's toughened up his his knuckles so that they don't break as easily but still there's only so much that knuckle can stand up against and it's going to break so how does he do that because he's channeling demonic spirits yoga is the same way people think well it's just it's just stretching no it's not just stretching it's it's a spiritual act it's a it's participating in the worship of demons okay and if you're practicing yoga stop you can stretch you know it's there's nothing wrong with stretching and down touch your toes i do that it feels good on my back sometimes you know but there's a difference between stretching and yoga you got to be careful it's just like you know there's a difference between exercising and doing martial arts learning how to do self-defense versus practicing martial arts there's a difference eastern meditation is another one right eastern meditation is about emptying your mind you know they they try to get you just to clear your mind of all thoughts get rid of all thought in your mind empty it completely don't let anything be in your mind that's the goal of eastern meditation well the bible talks about meditation but it's the other way around it says fill your mind with the word of god let the word of god be so saturating in your mind so fill in your mind that it's consumes all your thoughts when you empty your mind as an easter egg meditation what what happens you empty your head you have no thought you have no awareness you have no control you just empty the room and you give demonic spirits full access you give them the room to just come in and fill it up with whatever they want by emptying your mind what did yeshua say about casting out demons right he said you cast out a demon sweep the house make it clean but you don't feel it what happens he brings back seven more so you don't want to empty your head you want to fill it with the word of god so that's the difference between eastern meditation and biblical meditation but uh you know we see this this power struggle throughout the bible these demonic spirits rising up against the spirit of god and we see this acted out in numerous places but one specific is the book of exodus when moses goes to lead israel out of egypt what happens you know first he shows up and we have these magicians pharaoh has these magicians and they they do a lot of the same stuff that moses does you know he throws his staff down and becomes a snake they throw their stabs down they become snakes his staff eats their staffs right he turns the the water to blood they turn water to blood you know like there's this kind of showdown between them that they're they're doing trying to reproduce the same things he's doing and they're able to do it you know it wasn't just cheap parlor tricks they when they had power they had a that's why they were the magicians a pharaoh they actually had access to the the dark arts they were powered by demonic spirits and they could do a lot of bad stuff but then it got to one point where they were like you're afraid and they said this is the finger of god as these plagues were coming in egypt and moses wasn't backing down they finally got to the point where they're like we can't do this what he's doing we can't do this is the finger of god that was the great showdown between moses and the gods of egypt and every time he did something it was to show up that our god is better than your god our god is greater than your god and the egyptians had lots of gods so they had to send lots of plagues right so why is why is this power given to us why does god give us power and authority well moses was given power so that he could do what god had called him to do right god gave moses power and authority he said okay you you have a task to do let me equip you for that task because what was moses response god says go go tell pharaoh let my people go and he said who am i right i stutter i'm not i'm not able to speak that well how am i going to go to the pharaoh and tell him to let your people go what what am i going to do to pharaoh he's the the high king of the land he says take your staff throw it on the ground stick your hand inside your you come and pull it out it shows him i'm giving you authority i'm giving you power you're gonna do my wonders in egypt said i've called you to set my people free and i'm equipping you to do that so that's why moses was given power because he was given a big task god said i got to give you power to do that because you can't do it on your own but what what was the reason that god gave the holy spirit what did you sure say why he's going to send the holy spirit to be with his people acts 1 8 but you shall receive power when the holy spirit has come upon you and you shall be my witnesses in jerusalem and in judea and samaria to the ends of the earth it's the same reason it says i've given you a big job you're going to go around the world and preach the gospel and tell them about yeshua and you need the power of the holy spirit to do that so again as with us being ambassadors he gives authority to his ambassadors he gives power to his ambassadors because he knows that it's a big job and we're going to need the help i may not be able to go through the rest of this my voice is getting weak pray for me we receive power so we can take the gospel to the nations look what happened in acts 2. i'm going to skip around just a little bit but basically 1 through 11 is what i'm going to look at i'm going to skip just to the the stuff that i want to really focus on acts 2 starting verse 1. when the day of pentecost had fully come they were all fi they were all with one accord in one place and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled the whole house where they were sitting then there appeared to them divided tongues as a fire and one sat upon each of them and they were all filled with the holy spirit and began to speak with other languages as the spirit gave them utterance in verse seven then they were all amazed and marveled saying to one another look are not all these who speak galileans and how is it that we hear each of them in our own language in which we were born verse 11. we hear them speaking in our own languages the wonderful works of god okay so what was the purpose of this they were filled with the holy spirit he says i will i will sin in acts acts 1 8 he says the holy spirit will come upon you receive power to be my witnesses in jerusalem first and then judea and it's mary and to the ends of the earth and so when the acts 2 comes around they receive the baptism of the holy spirit the holy spirit comes upon them the tongues of fire come down they're filled with the holy spirit and they have the power of the holy spirit in their life and they go on the first thing they do is they preach the gospel in jerusalem right there outside the temple and all these people from all these different countries were gathered there from all around judea and they spoke to them in their own native language and the people marveled and they said how is it that they're able to speak to all of us in our own language and they're proclaiming the wonderful things of god so we receive power so that they can proclaim how wonderful god is proclaim the message of the gospel to all those in jerusalem then we see later they start spreading out to other places spreading out beyond jerusalem into judea and then out into samaria into the outer parts we have paul traveling over to rome and up into turkey with people traveling all over the country down into egypt various places that people are traveling to to preach the gospel to proclaim the death and resurrection of yeshua to proclaim salvation through yeshua they were given power to speak in other languages they were given power to prophesy power to heal power to do various miracles and the the apostles boldly proclaimed the message with authority and with power and so when god calls us to do a big task he equips us to do that task he gives us what we need he gives us the ability he gives us the power he gives us the authority because he didn't call you because you're qualified right he didn't call us because we're qualified look at paul paul was persecuting the church paul was an enemy of christ and as he was going to persecute christians yeshua showed up knocked him off his high horse literally right blinded him he says stop persecuting me and start preaching start preaching for me he took the greatest enemy of the church it made him one of the greatest proponents of the church he takes the most unlikely person right paul was the most unlikely person to get converted in his day he was the strongest opponent of christianity in his day most unlikely person to get converted to get saved and to follow yeshua to preach yeshua most unlikely and you should have said i'm going to take this most unlikely person and i'm going to use him he does the same thing with us just like what i said about samson i don't think samson was a big muscly guy like the rock right but i think if you stood him up to you probably take samson and stand him up next to vin diesel and you'd probably be like yeah i think ben diesel would win that match i just i have a feeling he wasn't a big muscly guy but he had the power of the holy spirit and so to look at him i don't think people were that impressed i think that's again why they said what's the secret of his strength and i think that's what people would say about us too what's the secret of their strength if we were acting walking in the holy spirit doing doing what the holy spirit is calling us to do we start you know doing miraculous things and we're like man what's going on with these people that's what happened in the book of acts people were amazed at the things that happened paul said first corinthians 2 4 5 he said in my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom but in demonstration of the spirit and a power that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of god paul said my preaching is not that good i'm not that good of a teacher but the power of the holy spirit is what convinced people to follow the power of the holy spirit is what convinced people that my message was true that's something i pray for because i know i'm not that good a preacher either so i pray god i pray that you would you would use me speak through me i pray that i pray that the holy spirit would would empower me to do things like paul to confirm his message but their message the messages of the apostles and disciples of first century their message was confirmed with signs and wonders it wasn't that they were just really good preachers it really wasn't i mean we got some of the sermons recorded for us in the bible they got up and they said remember jesus that guy you crucified but he raised from the dead you need to repent for it and thousands of people repented it wasn't a super fantastic message i mean it wasn't like oh wow this is this is some grand revelation that nobody's ever had before they just told them the truth they spoke with the authority the power of the holy spirit their message was accompanied with a demonstration of the power of the holy spirit the power of god validated and confirmed their message about yeshua and healing was an important part of the apostles ministry acts 5 verses 12 through 16 it says and through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people and they were all with one accord in solomon's porch yet none of the rest dared to join them but the people esteemed them highly and believers were increased believers were increasingly added to the lord multitudes of both men and women so that they brought the sick out into the streets and lay them on beds and couches that at least the shadow of peter passing by might fall on some of them when you think about weird stuff right people laid down just so that peter's shadow would fall on them and they could get healed there's some weird stuff like that recorded in the book of acts and you know it's like well do we really believe that do we really believe that peter's shadow healed people i do there's a lot of people who don't but i do he says uh shadow peter passing by my phone some of them also multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to jerusalem bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits and they were all healed they were all healed and said yeshua said greater works than these will you do he's saying i did you know the stuff that you see me doing you're to do greater stuff so you know we have the woman who touched yeshua's garment and she was healed and then we have people who just peter's shadow fell on them and they were healed why would yeshua give such great power and authority to his apostles why first corinthians 12 paul explains that he says that you are the body of christ you are his representatives you are his visible body on earth you represent him you are his ambassadors and so he empowers his people to do his work because we are his representative on earth we are his ambassadors on earth he's making his appeal through us he's doing his ministry through us working in our lives and through our lives to minister to other people and so he empowers us to do the work he's called us to do but we've grown up in a culture that doesn't believe that those things even exist anymore american christianity is has so over the years it has become so opposed to the idea of supernatural american christian is opposed to the idea of miracles oppose the idea of healing opposed to the idea that the holy spirit could do anything in the world today they say the prophecy ceased john the baptist so what do you do with the new testament when the paul says that the holy spirit gives the gift of prophecy they say prophecy died out with john the baptist that he was the last prophet or why does paul say that the holy spirit gives his spirit prophecy the gift of prophecy why does john the apostle give us the revelation he says this was a prophecy how can this be if prophecy died out which i'm the baptist we live in a culture where christianity says that the supernatural doesn't happen anymore and we bought the lie we believed it and it has so affected our thinking that we have a hard time thinking otherwise this is how the enemy defeats us really what did he do with yeshua right when yeshua was tempted in the wilderness use scripture he said you know it's written you jump off this this high place and god will send his angels and they won't let you strike your foot on the ground it's written in the psalms and yeshua said don't test the words your god satan used scripture to try to win the battle against yeshua the bible says that satan disguises himself as an angel of light he says that his ministers also disguise themselves as ministers of righteousness paul argues and he says that actually i don't remember it was paul or peter but it says that those who have a form of godliness but deny the power stay away from those people they have a form of godliness but they deny the power what does that look like looks a lot like american christianity to me we have a bunch of people who look godly look like look look righteous we're going to church read our bible we pray and we don't believe that the holy spirit does anything in the world today let's have a form of godliness but deny his power we don't believe in spiritual warfare we don't believe that there is even demons the devil's not even real some of them say that's what a lot of people in christianity believe and teach that was some of the stuff that i heard in college 20 years ago professors saying that satan's not really real that's just a personification of evil those people back then were just dumber than us and they had to explain things in a way that people would make sense and so when you have mental mental disorders they didn't have psychology back then to explain what the mental disorder was so they just said it was demonic possession people would fall down having seizures they didn't they didn't have science to tell them what was really going on inside the person's body and so this kid was flopping around with seizures they didn't know that he was epileptic and he was having some kind of seizure they just explained that he was demonic he had demons throwing them around on the ground but now we're so enlightened and we're so smart we don't have to believe in those fairy tales anymore that's the kind of stuff that people teach we're so much smarter than those people back then we don't have to believe this nonsense about spirits and so people don't believe anymore they don't believe there's an enemy they don't believe that the holy spirit can still do something in your life and so they're content to sit in a pew and hear a sermon and then go on their way and they don't even realize that there's there's more that they should be seeking more they should be doing more the holy spirit wants to use you the holy spirit wants to move in your life the holy spirit wants to touch people through your hands as you pray for them do you believe that the bible says that they did unusual miracles acts 19 talking about paul verses 11 and 12. now god worked unusual miracles by the hands of paul so that even handkerchiefs or aprons that were brought from his body to the sick and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them they said paul i know you're busy can i have a handkerchief didn't even need they didn't even ask paul to come pray for them they said hey can you send me a handkerchief so that i can get healed the bible says this happened i'm not talking about the tbn nonsense okay send me your your love gift and we'll send you a blessed item that's gonna bring you healing that's nonsense that's not what paul was doing okay if there's money attached to it just just throw it out the window that's useless that's not real if somebody says yeah give give me an offer and give me a donation give me a love gift and then i'll pray for your healing that guy's a charlatan okay he's really active by the power of the holy spirit he's not going to ask for anything in return he's just going to say let me let me love you let me pray for you let me show you that god wants to touch your life no strings attached you don't have to come be a part of my congregation you don't have to send me a love gift you don't have to give me any kind of donation you don't need to buy anything just let me pray for you okay that's that's genuine if they want to attach some strings to it they're phony just throw them out the window they're useless the charlatan healing was a huge part of religion at one time in history really it still is in eastern religion it's western christianity that's kind of forgotten about healing is part of religion healing was a major part of religion all religions all world religions they would go to the priest for healing they didn't have doctors they had medicine men what is the medicine man he was he was a priest in the religion you can look through all kinds of societies all kinds of cultures healing was part of their religion that's why that they would worship their gods is because they believe their god would heal them their god would save them their god would give them a harvest or god would give them a child that was why they worshipped their gods i mean you look at the pagan deities that's what they were gods of of fertility gods of the harvest gods of rain gods of healing all kinds of different gods that they worshipped it's part of their religion and this was part of the religion of the bible too it says that god is our healer he said to go the levites for healing and they were given instructions on how to deal with certain things how to cleanse people of certain things it was part of religion people go to witch doctor or priest or sorcerer but uh western culture has gone a different direction western society western culture western christianity has now gone a different direction we have stopped seeking god for healing and we go to the doctor medicine is has become the new god right we go to we go to the doctor to get healed we take medicine to get healed we go to the medicine cabinet to find our healing we don't even bother god anymore we don't we don't need to bother to ask him for healing let's just go pop a pill get a shot we place more faith in medicine than we do our god this is a conviction that i've had this week as i've been struggling with the sinus sinus stuff so where am i putting my faith am i trusting in god to heal me or am i trusting in musics right where am i putting my faith i want to be clear because i don't want people to think i'm saying something i'm not i'm not saying we should never ever ever go to the doctor that is not what i'm saying i'm not saying you should never ever ever take medicine that's not what i'm saying i'm saying seek god first okay you know when you have a headache don't just go grab an aspirin pray ask god to heal you first okay let him be the one you turn to first don't don't turn to medication first it makes sense i'm not saying that there are times when you probably should go to the doctor okay like i was talking to cory about this the other day he said you know if i if i'm a church and i fall and break my leg pray for me give god an opportunity to heal it but then then if i'm not healed take me to the doctor because i need to get my leg i need to have a brace put on it there are times when you probably should go to the doctor but are you seeking god first are you giving him an opportunity to act in your life first are you believing that he actually will you know just don't just go through the motion and say lord lord heal my leg and all right hold me off do you really believe pray with faith and believe that you could be healed pursue god first pursue him for healing let believe that he is the healer and then kind of have well you know if if i have to we could go to the doctor but rather go to god you know i don't wanna i don't wanna give the impression that i'm saying don't ever do that don't ever go to the doctor don't ever take medicine because i've heard stories about people dying because that's what they did so i'm not gonna go to the doctor i'm just going to believe god's going to heal me and then they died and somebody said well they you know if they had just gone to the doctor they could have gotten healed okay well i don't want somebody to die because of this but i want to do is i want to say pursue god first seek him for healing and seek him for wisdom and find out if if you need to go to the doctor or not you know maybe one of those things where you pray for healing and he says all right well you need to go to the doctor i think that's a possibility he could say that or he may say hey you need to stop doing this because this is the problem you know your liver's not working because you drink too much stop that that could be could be what he says but again the western world doesn't seek god for healing we seek the medicine cabinet you know what the greek word pharmakia is you guys ever heard that word pharmakia that's where we get the word pharmacy and it's used in the new testament a few times galatians 5 19-20 says now the works of the flesh are evident which are adultery fornication uncleanness lewdness idolatry pharmakia so this is a work of the flesh it's translated sorcery in most your bibles sorcery or witchcraft why would it be translated as sorcery or witchcraft what is pharmakia why would why would pharmacy get his name from pharmakia if pharmakia means sorcery and witchcraft what's the connection here for makia means medicine means drugs potions spells that's what it refers to means magic sorcery or witchcraft and refers to drugs potions or poisons okay that's what pharmakia is a reference to so we have these magicians these sorcerers who are creating these potions they're supposed to be magical potions that'll heal you it's pharmakia paul says it's a work of the flesh why is it a work of flesh because it's man's attempt to do god's work man attempting to do what god is what we should be doing god is the one who he's the healer pharmacy is also connected to pagan religion and specifically babylon in revelation book of revelation there's several times in the book of revelation where this word is used and revelation 18 23 says for by your pharmakia all the nations were deceived talking about babylon it says by your pharmacia all the nations were deceived how could that happen how could all the peoples in the world be deceived by pharmakia i'll tell you it's happening right now the whole world is panicking over this virus and they say we've got the cure we got this vaccine it's gonna heal you it's gonna it's gonna save you that's how you that's how you fool the whole world to see the whole world by pharmakia right don't seek god come get your your flu shot come get your vaccine for by your pharmakia all the nations were deceived revelation 9 21 says this is uh this is when a bunch of plagues are being said it's opening up all these plagues being poured out on the earth test test all right my voice didn't give out my microphone yet revelation 9 21 it says and they did not repent in case this one comes back and they did not repent of their murders or their pharmakia or their sexual immorality or their thefts again it's translated sorceries in most of your bibles they don't repent of their sorcery they don't not repent of their pharmakia it has to do with magical spells poison potions drugs he says he sent plagues on the earth and they didn't repent there are times in our life when god sends sickness disease and plagues to cause us to repent and turn to him that's the whole purpose he causes sickness and plague so that people will turn to him but instead of turning to him we turn to the medicine cabinet the thing that should be drawing us closer to god the thing that should be driving us to him causing us to fall on our knees instead of coming to him and asking him to take away the plague we go to the medicine cabinet we go to the doctor so instead of repenting we just look for an alternative same thing that paul did or saul i mean right he went to an alternative source of power he went to the witch listen to what uh king asa did you guys familiar with king asa saying chronicles 16 verses 12 and 13 it says in the 39th year of his reign asa became diseased in his feet and his malady was severe yet in his disease he did not seek the lord but the physicians he did not seek the lord he sought the physicians and it says so asa rested with his fathers he died in the 41st year of his reign because he did not seek the lord instead he saw physicians he went to an early grave i used to look to the positions for healing instead of seeking the lord so we need to be people who seek the lord first and foremost for healing again i'm not saying don't ever go to the doctor i'm not saying don't ever take any kind of medication i'm saying seek the lord first okay the bible tells us it is god who heals us there's something wrong with this one too in there is this one better we're having problems with the wireless tonight all right so exodus 15 says that god is the one who heals us exodus 15 26 it says if you diligently heed the voice of the lord your god and do what is right in his sight give heir to his commandments and keep all his statutes i will put none of the diseases on you which i have brought on the egyptians for i am the lord who heals you i am jehovah rapha right yahweh rapha i am the lord who heals this is a name of god this is a title of god this is who he is it's part of his character he's the one who heals he says if you hear the voice of the lord and do what is right in his sight i we're not going to let the plagues come upon you that's significant because it goes back to what corey was talking about that the blessings will overtake you right if you follow and obey him love him serve him obey him he says the blessings will just overtake you you don't have to worry about the curses this is one of the names of god is jehovah rapha yahweh rafa healing is a significant aspect in our faith in our religion what the bible presents to us about god he is the healer and we should be seeking him for healing this was a large part of yeshua's ministry you think about how many people yeshua healed while he was on earth we probably couldn't even count how many people i mean how many different cities he go in and it says that all who were sick came and he healed them all we don't even know how many people that was it could have been thousands in every city they said all who were sick came to him and he healed all of them but it was prophesied the messiah would come with healing in his wings this is one of the prophecies isaiah said that by his stripes we are healed yeshua heals it's part of his ministry this part of what he does that's part of what he did while he was on earth and it's part of what he does still he's a healer but consider the woman who had the issue of blood she tried everything else and she wasn't healed but then when she touched yeshua's tassel she received the healing luke 8 43-44 says now a woman having a flow of blood for 12 years who had spent all of her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any came from behind and touched him touched the border of his garment and immediately her flow of blood stopped she's reached out and touched touch his clothing touched the the hymn where there in greek is crass but on it most likely refers to the tassels on the corner so you know she reached out and touched his tassels the back of his garment and she was healed because she believed the prophecy that he would come with healing in his wings so she reached out and touched his wing because she believed the word of god but it says she wasted all of her all of her money on positions and nothing helped and then she saw the messiah and she said oh he's here now i can have my healing you sure didn't even have to touch her you sure didn't even have to speak to her with a lot of people he'd reach out and touch him put his hands on him put mud in their eyes various things like that right we speak to him but with her she she just reached and touched him she didn't even have to know it but he knew it says that he felt the power to leave him again the power of the holy spirit is tangible something that could be felt something that can be observed something that could be experienced she felt the healing and he felt the power leave we have to look at ourselves and we say i'm weak i have no power i can't do this this type of thinking causes us to feel defeated because we're looking to ourselves for the power instead of looking to god if you look to yourself and you say i'm weak you're correct you are weak but you are not the source of the power you need to look to the power source look to the lord look to the holy spirit let him be your source of power luke 24 yeshua describes it as powerful and high 24 49 behold i send you the promise of my father i send the promise of my father upon you but terry in the city of jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high we need to recognize that the power is not from us you know i've heard preachers say really stupid things i heard a preacher one time he said everyone that i've prayed for has been healed i am a healer and if you need healing just come and let me pray for you and and i'll heal you that's the stupidest thing you've ever said you are not a healer okay the holy spirit is the healer god is the healer he's just using your stupid hands to do it okay he's not a healer the holy spirit is the healer ephesians ephesians 6 10 says finally my brother be strong in the lord and in the power of his might is he who is strong not you he is our strength he is our power he is our source so that we look to him for our strength second corinthians 12 9 and 10 says this is paul he said and he said unto me my grace is sufficient for you my strength is made perfect in weakness therefore most gladly i would rather boast in my infirmities that the power of christ may rest upon me therefore i take pleasure in infirmities in reproaches and needs and persecutions in distress for christ's sake for when i am weak then i am strong realizing that when we are weak his strength can show through us he can use us more because of our weakness so when you look at yourself and you say i i'm i'm i can't do this i'm weak i stutter i have stage fright i can't i can't talk to people i'm shy i'm an introvert we all have lots of excuses right don't let your excuse be that you don't have the holy spirit okay you may be shy you may be introverted you may stutter you may have all those things going against you and the holy spirit can use you you know i saw i saw a thing on youtube one time this guy he didn't have any arms or legs and he was preaching the gospel what's your excuse really i mean he has no arms and no legs and god is still using him what's your excuse seriously he can use anybody the worse you think you are the better you are because you can just take take your situation turn around even more okay don't be afraid to let the holy spirit use you step out in faith again exousia last week exorcist delegated authority dunamis has delegated power it's not your powers the power of the holy spirit working in you and through you it's when the holy spirit comes upon you you receive power right the holy spirit's power and uh it can be observed and felt again let's look at this woman with the issue of blood let's look at mark 5 25 and 30. now a certain woman had a flow of blood for 12 years and it suffered many things from the physicians she had spent all of the all she had and was no better but rather grew worse when she heard about jesus she came behind him in the crowd and touched his garment where she had said if only i may touch his clothes i shall be made well immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed she felt it it was tangible and jesus immediately knowing in himself that power had gone out of him how did he know power went out of him she she touched the bottom of his clothes he wouldn't even probably didn't feel her touching him but he felt the power go as tangible as something that is felt and experienced he turned around he said who touched my clothes so she felt that she felt in her body that she was healed and yeshua felt the power go out from him think about the uh the gifts of the holy spirit i'm going to look real briefly we're almost done hang in there you guys are getting used to me going along aren't you okay i i need to just stop apologizing and just just you just just just expect that i'm probably going to go long most weeks because it doesn't matter how many notes i have i just can't stop talking apparently so hang in there we're almost done first corinthians 12 describes the gifts of the holy spirit it says these are the manifestation of the holy spirit okay what does that mean to manifest something is to make it known manifest means to make known to display or to show something to manifest means to show to display to make visible so the manifestation of the holy spirit is to make known to display to show the holy spirit at work in the life of believers it's it's showing us that the holy spirit is here showing us that the holy spirit is present he is making himself known he's revealing himself to us that makes sense the manifestation of the holy spirit i think that's a really interesting way that is phrased so he says first corinthians 12 4 through 11 but there are diversity of diversities of gifts but the same spirit there are diversities of ministries but the same lord and there are diversities of activities but the same god who works in all but the manifestation of the spirit is given to each one for the prophet of all for to one is given the word of wisdom through the spirit to another the word of knowledge through the same spirit to another faith by the same spirit to another gifts of healings by the same spirit to another working miracles to another prophecy to another discerning of spirits to another different kinds of tongues into another interpretation of tongues but one in the same spirit works all of these things distributing to each one individually as he wills so people people say i have a gift of healing i say no you don't the holy spirit has the gift of healing and he's just using you i have a gift of prophecy no you don't the holy spirit prophesies and he just happens to be using you and he distributes these gifts as he wills it is the holy spirit who gives these gifts and these gifts are given to the prophet of all and i really think we've looked at it backwards because people say well i have the gift of healing what we should be saying is you're sick let me pray for you and let you receive the gift of healing right i have a gift of knowledge no what we should be saying is you need some you need some a word from the lord right let me pray that you'll receive some knowledge let the holy spirit work through me to give you some knowledge right i think that's actually what paul is saying that if someone is sick you pray for them and they receive a gift of healing it's not that you have a gift to heal does that make sense you're sick and i pray for you and the holy spirit heals you you have been the recipient of a gift of healing because you were healed by the holy spirit i don't have a gift of healing the holy spirit does and if he happens to heal you through me that means you've received a good healing does that make sense i feel like the church has been backwards on this and so if if you need a word of wisdom or word of knowledge and i happen to give that word of wisdom or knowledge and you receive that you have received a gift of wisdom and knowledge from the holy spirit i do not have a gift of wisdom and knowledge does that make sense okay so the manifestation of the spirit is given to each for the prophet of all the gift is given for the prophet of all the benefit of all the manifestation of the holy spirit is given and again manifest means to make known or just to display these gifts of power come through the holy spirit again i emphasized wisdom through the spirit knowledge through the spirit faith through the spirit healing through the spirit miracles prophecy discernment through the spirit these are all tangible and observable we can hear prophecy tongues interpretation we can see healings and miracles we experience knowledge wisdom and discernment this is something that's manifest something that can be seen heard felt as tangible is showing us that the holy spirit is still around okay that the holy spirit wasn't just for the first century apostles the holy spirit is still around in his body today do you guys believe that the gifts of the spirit are the manifestation of the holy spirit in god's people now i want to be careful here because uh i know some of you may be familiar with churches like the symbol of god where they say that the gift of tongues is the evidence that you have the holy spirit in your life okay they they put so much emphasis on that one gift and they say well if you don't speak in tongues you don't have the holy spirit that's not true okay it is an evidence just as prophecy is an evidence just as healing excuse me just as healing is an evidence but what it is is it's evidence that he exists as evidence that he is still working in his church okay it's evidence that he is still moving in the life of believers and so when we see these things happen it shouldn't be glorifying the person okay so if somebody stands up and say i have a i have a word of prophecy to give we don't glorify the person and say oh that person must be so great god is using him in that way he's a prophet no we should be glorifying and saying praise the lord the holy spirit still still speaks through people remember he spoke through a donkey right okay so just because he speaks to you doesn't mean you're important okay look at me he can use me he can use you okay so but these acts of power these these ministry gifts are given for the benefit of other people it's not so you can puff yourself up it's not so you can feel like you're somebody special so you can minister so you can help people so when you see somebody need you reach out to him and you say you know what i know a god who can heal you let's ask him okay luke 9 1. this is where we started last week then he called his 12 disciples together and he gave them power and authority over demons and to cure diseases you guys are gonna have to pray for me here real quick my voice is getting really weak yeshua gives us power and authority over demons and diseases this power is delegated from above and it comes through the holy spirit so i just want to encourage you i would encourage you to seek the lord seek the holy spirit let him use you trust in him believe in his power it's not your power it's his power trust in him believe that he can still do miracles believe that he still heals people believe that he still touches lives believe that he still cares right is that that's ultimately what it is does god care enough about me that he would heal me does god care enough about this person that he would heal them what we that's what we're basically saying isn't it we pray for you let me show you that god loves you let me ask god to touch you you bow your heads with me but we praise you lord we thank you lord we thank you for your word we thank you for your holy spirit holy spirit we invite you into our lives into our congregation into this place tonight would help us to be people who trust you who follow you and we will be led by you hope us to be people who believe that you still you still do stuff today that you still touch lives that you still still heal help us to believe that not just not just say that but actually believe it we walk out our lives believing and trusting in you and knowing that you can actually do something make a difference that you are god that you are greater than anything that can come against us let's walk out our lives in a way that we tangibly live that out it is not just lip service we don't just say we believe but that we actually live it out we actually live like people who believe what we say but increase our faith help us to seek you first give us to trust you more lord use us to do your work use us to be your mouthpiece to speak your word use us to touch people's lives and to draw them closer to you use us to heal people use us in whatever way you want or let us be used by you help us all to figure out what our role in the body is tell us to do it help us to live to live as your ambassadors in the world we praise you we thank you in the name of yeshua amen i was just thinking about what paul says in first corinthians 12 about the body right he says we're all part of the body and each each part of the body is different we all have new roles he talks about the eyes and the ears i was thinking about the toenail right who's the toenail and you think about that it's like well if you're the body of yeshua even the toenail is significant right i mean the hymn on his garment was significant for that woman so even the toenail of yeshua is significant what part of yeshua's body wasn't used in some way for some important purpose we're the body of christ right where his physical representation on earth every part of his body is important there's not an insignificant part not even the toenail right i don't care who you think you are you're significant if you're part of the body of christ i think somebody may be feeling insignificant tonight i want you to know that you're not okay is that you bear you feeling like a toenail you're the most awesome toenail ever all right can can we get some prayer does anybody else want prayer
