communion of the holy spirit be with you all my dear brothers and sisters we are celebrating today the solemnity of the most holy trinity so we lift up to our god the god of love all the intentions of the word of truth and the spirit of sanctification made known to the human race your wondrous mystery grant us we pray that in professing the true faith we may acknowledge the trinity of eternal glory and adore your unity powerful in majesty through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god forever then a reading from the book of proverbs thus says the wisdom of god the lord possessed me the beginning of his ways the forerunner of his prodigies of long ago from of all i was pulled forth at the praise before the year when there were no depths i was brought forth when there were no fountains or springs of water before the mountains were settled into place before the hills i was brought forth while asia the eight and fields were not made nor the first class of the world when the lord established the heavens i was there when he marked out the walk over the face of the deep when he made firm the skies above when he fixed fast the foundations of the aid when he said for the sea it's limit so that the water should not transgress his command then was i beside him as his craftsman and i was his delight day by day playing before head the heavens the work of your fingers the moon and the stars which you set in place what is meant that you should be mindful of him or the son of man that you should care for him you have made him let a little less than the angels and ground him with glory and honor you have given him wool over the voids of your hands putting all things under his feet o lord our god how wonderful your name in all the way all sheep and oxen yes the beast of the field the bridge of the air the fishes of the sea and whatever swims the paths of the seas oh lord our god how wonderful your name in all the earth everything from the letter of saint paul to the romans brothers and sisters therefore since we have been justified by faith we have peace with god through all through our lord jesus christ through whom we have gained access by faith to this grace in which we stand and we boast in hope of the glory of god not only that but we even boast of our affliction knowing that affliction produces endurance and endurance proven character and proven character hope and hope does not disappoint because the love of god has been poured out into our hearts through the holy spirit and that has been given to us the word of the lord [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] so [Music] so [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to saint john [Music] jesus said to his disciples i have much more to tell you but you cannot bear now but when he comes the spirit of truth he will guide you to all truth he will not speak on his own but he will speak what he hears and will declare to you the things that are coming he will glorify me because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you everything that the father has is mine for this reason i told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you the gospel of the lord my dear brothers and sisters in christ we thank god our one god who is a trinity of persons a trinity of love for bringing us together we are a community and the christian community is called to be the icon the image of the trinity for we are all baptized in the name of the father son and holy spirit is prepared the homily based on the readings of year b what we read are the readings of year c but the same word of god uh the trinity god one god and some people who say how come one god and three persons so how do we know that they are there are three how do we know that it is one well it is not a product of human invention that was how god revealed himself from the uh judea tradition we know there is one god only one god but then in the mission of jesus christ we learned that he possesses the fullness of being god but as the son of a father and then with the mission of the holy spirit and we know that the love of father and son is poured also into our hearts so it is not an invention the trinity is not an invention the trinity is not also a product simply of our reflection it is how god reveals himself the god of love revealing himself in three persons called father son and spirit and in all the readings we realize that they are persons three persons not three individuals three individuals individuals do not relate with one another individuals will even fight with each other for supremacy and power but not in the trinity we don't have individuals we have persons and the person acquires his unique identity only in a relationship with the others by giving all of i am to the others receiving also from the others who i am that is a person to so an individual will not discover who he or she is but the person discovers his or her unique identity because he or she is related and that's what we see in the mystery of the trinity the father giving everything his love to the son and the son receiving his love and identity from the father and the father and son giving to the holy spirit their love and the holy spirit binding the father and son in love the only thing that they do not give is their identity the moment the father says i am no longer father then the son is no longer son but they give everything and in this mutual giving and receiving they become who they are but that is not just among themselves it is not just a love that is contained among the three of them we see in the in the in the gospels and in in the read in the writings in the old testament in the new testament that the love of god that god who is love god who is trinitarian love shows that love in their common action of love it is not self-contained it is loving others creating others out of love creating the world the incarnation saving humanity sanctifying people sanctifying the earth recreating the earth now that's not love that is corporate individualism and selfishness is that's the love of god god is love but their love for each other is not self-focused forgetting the world forgetting humanity forgetting others no because god is love it recreates it creates it saves that love saves in the letter of saint paul to the romans it is clear there is no competition among the three persons the father gives us the son gives us the spirit jesus shares with us his dignity a son the holy spirit enables us to say abba father the holy spirit will teach us what jesus has taught us so they do not compete with one another they lead us to the father to the son to the holy spirit they lead us to each other and we have been baptized in the name of the father son and spirit so this sunday as we honor of course every moment every day we honor god as trinity but this sunday we are given this special opportunity to reflect to worship god and to value our baptism we have been invited through baptism to be part of the life of the trinity as love to be persons of love to be a community of love and jesus says i will be with you till the end of the ages so we will be in the love of god till the end of time but how about us this is a day for us to ask ourselves as baptized am i a person we who are baptized or are we individual rather than persons is our rule of life the rule of life of the the trinitarian love receiving giving sharing and the church the community of the baptized we are supposed to be the icon the image of the trinity a people made of the trinity community life mutual giving mutual giving mutual sharing celebrating one another saying that what i am who i am is because i have received from others and i am who i am because i am also able to give to one another do i recognize that interconnectedness so as we praise and worship god who is love one god in three persons let us take to heart how the trinity acts in us and in our community and let us follow the lead of the three persons working in us and in the community so that we can give a true witness to the world of true love the world is in need of true love love is adulterated love is mangled love is distorted but this day we are called to behold god who is love trinity let us worship let us receive this god and let us remain in god the most holy trinity so i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only beloved son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us man and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who was spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen inspired by the spirit we now offer our sunday prayers to god in the name of jesus christ saying lord have mercy lord have mercy for the fulfillment of our baptism let us pray to the lord lord have mercy for all the seed and the suffering the lonely and the dying let us pray to the lord lord have mercy in the communion of the holy spirit with mary the mother of the son of god and with all the saints in light let us commend our lives and the lives of one another to the lord let us pray to the lord lord have mercy almighty god with tender love we call you abba answer the prayers of your children gathered here for we rely on you and have confidence in you we ask this through christ our lord in the unity of the holy spirit now and [Music] holy spirit so that in the confessing of the true and eternal godhead you might be adored in what is proper to each person their unity in substance and their equality in majesty for this is praised by we humbly implore you by the same spirit graciously make holy these gifts we have brought to you for consecration they may become the body and blood of your son our lord jesus christ at whose command we celebrate these mysteries for on the night he was betrayed he himself took bread and giving thanks giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and giving you thanks he said a blessing and gave the challenge to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from me for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith save us savior of the world for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free therefore o lord as we celebrate the memorial of the saving passion of your son his wondrous resurrection and ascension into heaven and as we look forward to his second coming we offer you in thanksgiving this holy and living sacrifice luke we pray upon the oblation of your church and recognizing the sacrificial victim by whose death you will to reconcile us to yourself grant and we who are nourished by the body and blood of your son and filled with his holy spirit may become one body one spirit in christ may he make of us an eternal offering to you so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect especially with the most blessed minister to the sick with competence and compassion grant them health in mind and body strength in their commitment protection from the disease we pray for those afflicted may they be restored to health protect those who care for them grant eternal rest to those who have died give us the grace in these trying times for the good of all and to help those in need may our concern and compassion for each other see us through this crisis and lead us to conversion and holiness grant all these to our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit one god
