we're into the business end of the candidates chess tournament we're trying to find the next Challenger to ding Len and it's getting spicy this is where the action happens it's like day four of the Masters hands up if you're watching that later can they catch Scotty Sheffer but back to the chess here Hikaru Nakamura world number three playing Fabiano caruana world number two and Hikaru opens with E4 he is in fabby's head right now because he's won the last three games with the white pieces classical games can he do it again here boy is this a great game we get Knight C6 Bishop B5 Rory Lopez nothing surprising there hikaru's been playing at this tournament the bishop drops back Knight F6 and now Mainline stuff is castles and The Rook comes to E1 but here we see D3 another very common sideline you just protect your Center and now Bishop C5 from Fabby the most aggressive placement of that bishop and in a bizarre move Fabby starts promoting his chessable course the Archangel variation with the bishop on C5 B5 inserted Arbiter comes and has a word he's like Fabby you can't start promoting over the board right now Fabby sits back down we get Carles D6 played C3 looking for expansion B4 D4 different ideas Castle's played rookie won standard stuff and now different moves for black right it's a rich position you can drop a bishop back already but Fabby goes Knight E7 a standard maneuver releasing the C Pawn to push forward Knight G6 on the way we see that now after these couple of Knight moves Here and Now Knight F1 from Hikaru another really standard maneuver supports Bishop E3 comes to Knight G3 AT time G3 sorry these kind of things going on now black can Retreat the bishop play H6 different ideas but Fabby goes for a very direct one with Pawn D5 clarifying things in the center Pawn structures changed hang on is an E5 dropping it's tender as a bud in early spring but there's a problem if you capture then there's this bishop takes on F2 sorry I was just checking do you take first no you take here first King takes obviously you were going to capture a rook otherwise now you capture the Knight rook recaptures and queen F6 check picks up whoops a loose Rook this is the sting at the end of the tail so we come back here Pawn Untouchable therefore Bishop B3 played by Hikaru hitting a knight over here so C6 add some support in the center and now Hikaru his turn to change the pawn structure plays very directly in the center here with Pawn D4 we get captures Knight recaptures played Knight F6 comes back opens the queen there's pressure on D4 and Hikari says fine you want to change the pawn structure but give me your Bishops no worries let's go for it and this is the thing Black's got the nicer structure but White's got these Bishops and Hikari takes the pawn of course you want to keep the ladies on the board you want pieces you want activity you want attack if you've got the iqp isolated Queen Pawn so Knight D5 coming back blockading the pawn good policy we see Bishop C2 hitting some new real estate you weren't getting much action on this diagonal now Bishop E6 very solid Knight G3 and now here Fabby could just take a couple of moves to do some Basics get the queen on to C7 iBall this dark Square connect the Rooks maybe centralize a couple that sort of thing right but here already charges forward with Knight df4 not that it's a bad move Rook E4 pressures and now he drops back is this a draw offer does he want here The Rook to drop and repeat well no Hikaru goes A3 takes away B4 from Knight jumps sets up the classic Queen D3 Bishop Queen battery looking for potential mates in future and after Rook E8 Bishop D2 now again just developing the queen seems quite standard but Knight F6 is played and I don't like this move because it allows Hikaru to switch gears he goes Bishop G5 defending the Rook via this pin don't take botes Gambit your Queen instead we see H6 but Hikaru gives up his Bishops but this is a nice exchange for him that Knight was an absolute monster on D5 of course this bishop struggling a bit to run round the board all the pawns on dark squat therefore it was the bad Bishop right so this has helped taru Queen D2 very natural plans now double the Rooks Bishop D5 looking quite natural for black but you allow Rook G4 potentially so instead we get Queen G5 but it's like Fabby he's trying to force the issue here get the Queens off get that draw going here Hikaru could go Queen C3 Queen B4 decent moves but Rook e 3 is really a fantastic move just because it's a bit weird right bit of a strange psychedelic move what's actually going on there why are you pinning your own Queen maybe not psychedelic could be a bit too extreme but either way it's a strange one and Fabby starts burning clock here they're roughly level but Fabby spends 20 minutes now Rook 88 one of the top engine moves looks so so natural there's just something a bit unnatural about how Fabby plays this game he goes Knight F4 sort of like thank you very much you've relinked in control of this dark square but now Hikaru just unleashes a game changer right trust me it's an absolute Banger it's a GameChanger you could just double the Rooks standard stuff but this is how you win games at this level this is how you win tournaments he comes up with the exceptional Pawn to H4 star move of the game because you're giving an entire Pawn if black wants it surely your King's getting drafty what's your idea what's the followup well just simple Rook E4 hit the Knight threatening to win it can't move of course the queen drops so G5 covers now you stack the two towers as Hikaru would say rook ad8 and you can just slowly improve Knight F5 for example there's also amazing ideas of Bishop D1 Knight H5 on the way supported by the bishop intensifying the pressure on the night really nice lines this one's now pinned of course as well well so very often White's getting the pawn back with interest in those lines the Queen's in jail so the pawn wasn't touched here Fabby quickly declines it comes to the center of the board Rook e four now played Knight is hit and you can take on G2 excuse me it gets complicated the point being if captures F5 you're winning back more than your piece you're getting an exchange ahead but you don't have to capture that one you can kind of play around the Knight keep bringing the pressure to Black and is that Knight going to get stuck in jail you know it's got no retreat move right now imagine if the bishop could ever snake round the knight's just lost of course so it's a very risky move low on time therefore Fabby just Retreats the Knight you could play H5 immediately but Hikaru doubles the Rooks knight f8 from Fabby anticipating H5 not the most accurate move but in general Fab's accuracy drops now we see Rook E5 the queen drops H5 not the engine's favorite it preferred Queen F4 or something but still not bad Fabby under pressure and he cracks Queen D7 or queen B6 some of the top engine choices connecting the Rooks these Rooks just never really get properly connected this game but Bishop D7 played instead and it's a big blunder because simply takes Bishop raptures you've relinquished control of F5 it's really hard to ever kick the Knight of course with this Pawn here on H5 clamping and after Queen F6 important idea to add defense around the King stop any kind of Knight sacks and queen Invasion we now see Queen B4 and Hikaru just using the board as his canvas right painting on both sides here switching up the play and Fabby blunders terribly but it is a very tough tough position low on time B pawns Under Fire right what to do top engine move is Bishop D7 just giving the pawn after a check King goes Queen captures idea being to try and pin and win but white can wiggle out defend like this you can try and decoy the queen but it can stay Knight E6 looks like you're toast but Queen F5 comes just in time this is one sample line and if you take here no time or you get checkmated this is the thing this is why the Queens have to come off so Bishop D7 best not played B5 played natural setting up the lovely porn formation we love on this channel but it allows a winning shot 97 check King h8 and now can you find the deadly final blow which of course Hikaru does he eats puzzle rush for breakfast literally in a bowl with milk you can order a puzzle Rush cereal now from chess St he goes Knight D5 and it's a killer Fabby resigns the game okay what if you capture the Knight first thing to explore bang The Rook not connected with its Knight horrible that's a Checkmate literally dead this Spanish Bishop right Roy Lopez Bishop just becomes a monster late in the game at times and if instead of capturing this Knight you go C5 to try and block out this Queen's thing here then the queen can still take Knight E6 sorry D7 counter shot on the queen you can take here take here take care with check and here wh's emerging a porn ahead a piece ahead you're even going to win another one over here nothing left to say Hikaru has got fabby's number right now what a game blows the tournament open here's the standings on screen it's hotting up it's day four at the Masters right this is the business end I hope you enjoyed check out the video on screen for another exceptional game of chess and I hope to see you again soon cheers
