last week Melissa and I managed to get the entire ceiling space here in our garage insulated we squeeze all of those bats into place and then because we're anticipating that we're going to have our garage doors installed later this coming week we needed to get some drywall put up over that installation so we're really focusing on the front half of the garage space last week we sort of ran out of time because it's the holidays and we wanted to spend some quality time together yeah we were supposed to spend a second day getting the ceiling up but the kids wanted to go ice skating so of course we chose ice skating over drywall so we're picking up where we left off the garage doors are being installed in 3 days we have a lot to do and if we have time before Christmas we're going to plug in the side door because that will mean that we are 100% dried in it is an absolutely beautiful morning out here today and because it's the weekend meliss and I didn't have any homeschooling to get done with the kids this morning which means we have a full work day ahead of us it's a beautiful thing I came out extra early already got all of our measurements taken and we got all of the ceiling joist marked off so we know where to screw through I'm hoping that because we do have a full day to work that we can get the entire front half on this side of the garage closed in these garage doors are going to need some mounts that go over the drywall so let's get busy enough talk let's get to work we always get comments about why it is that we put our drywall panels on saw horses and cut it this way as opposed to just standing them up and cutting it it's cuz I have a really bad back and this just limits the the amount of times that I have to bend over so it's not perfect but there's more than one way to skin a cat there's more than one way to cut drywall and this is the way that I prefer to do [Music] it so the part that takes the longest with installing all of these sheets is the many many screws that go on so we have one of these that uh it's it sets a screw at the perfect depth for drywall but our is jammed and it won't go on and we don't know what's wrong so we spent like 30 minutes trying to figure it out and we are burning daylight so Jeremy's going to do it the Hardway and while he does it the hard way I'm going to answer one of the biggest questions that we've been asked lately and that is why on Earth are we still using a ladder to get up to the apartment and why have we not built the stairs so it is by Design it's not because we've overlooked that step the reason that we have not put in the stairs yet is because we have a really really tall stair well entry way to the apartment which is going to require all of the drywall be put up before we put the staircase in so that we can get a scissor lift into the garage and up into this cavity the walls are really high and if we were to build the stairs we would be on extension ladders on a staircase which isn't even really possible because you would be at an angle so it just it would have completely complicated of drywalling this so it not only does it need to be drywalled it needs to be taped and mudded and and then painted and finished once we get all of that done safely with a lift or scaffolding or something that needs to sit right in this cavity we will then build the staircase so we could have put the stairs up temporarily but that would have required us to build the stairs and then deconstruct them and then reconstruct them and that takes a lot more time than just using a ladder to get up to the apartment so that is why there is no staircase it is coming soon but we chose to keep this area empty so that we could get up there safely I've seen the [Music] [Music] Stars [Music] like carbon a pumpkin what you think I got this [Music] one right now [Music] sh oh my back after this piece we just have one more piece to go and then we are done and as you can tell by the fact that it doesn't look like it's midnight we got done pretty early it gets dark here at 4:00 like you guys have seen in the recent videos and we got done with plenty of daylight to spare with like 20 minutes of daylight to spare yeah this wasn't bad at all it's looking really good we were FAS I am old now I am a [Music] strer seen this all I don't know where it didn't we use 16s [Music] in so [Music] there you go front half of the garage but up did it a cake my shoulders feel [Music] awesome I will not again [Music] so Eli has been spending a lot of time with lexon lexon is my horse but it may become Eli's horse in time they are working on a lot of stuff on the ground lexon is a lot of horse for an 8-year-old boy but Eli is kind of bored with Debbie she's older and she doesn't like to lope she will not lope and so it's perfect for Kira it's just her speed but kir is showing a little more interest in gymnastics these days so the pony's not getting as much action as we I guess had hoped um Kira's kind of losing interest and I I can't force something that she's not into or or something that makes her nervous we thought by getting her a pony that was really calm that um that would help but the pony's calm sometimes and then sometimes she's not sometimes she likes to take off and buck and that's pretty much solidified cira's fear of all horses so Eli still rides the pony a little bit but he's definitely more interested in lexon so we're going to see where this road goes owning horses and having kids grow up with them is such a journey and they outgrow horses and then they need more challenging horses and sometimes the horses are too challenging like in the case of Kota we bought our little red Mustang Kota uh when he was 2 and a half years old he is a sweet horse he was very dependable most of the time but he had a really bad habit of Kicking and that became very dangerous with the kids because they're short and if a kid takes a horse kick to the head it's over and he kicked me once and I just decided I couldn't take the risk anymore and I made the very very difficult decision to sell probably one of my most favorite horses that I've ever owned because it was just too dangerous for the kids so Kota went to live with uh who I call kot's Cowboy they're about 2 hours from here and I talk to him all the time he knows that I really struggled to sell that little horse and he updates me probably twice a month he sends pictures and videos and they're doing so well kot's all by himself over there as far as Horses go which turned out to be the absolute best situation for him because he stopped learning bad habits from other horses and he stopped treating people like horses and so it's been really good he's had a lot of training and he has become a roping Pony which is so fun to see for Kota because he was so playful and he just wanted to go and run and chase cows which is what he gets to do now so he's probably going to be in a rodeo next year and if he is and they're doing some Team Roping we're going to take you guys along and we're going to take the whole family and go see Kota in action so we just wanted to give you a little update because I know a lot of you guys love that little horse as we did and you guys ask all the time how he's doing so he's doing great and for today we still have a little bit of drywall to do we thought we were done with the ceiling but it turns out we actually need to do the front wall as well so Jeremy is already out there working on it we're going to get it done today garage doors arrive in one day so we have got to get going so I made an incorrect assumption with the amount of work that we're having to get done with this drywall we told you that all of the drywall on the ceiling had to be up for our garage door installation since that's where all of the uh the tracks are going to be mounted when I was putting away our tools last night over in the shop I was looking at the door there and realized that the guy that track will also be running down this front wall so we're going to take all of this uh half inch now we are working with/ in drywall I already got the far side done we're going to plug this piece in place and then fill in all the gaps in between provided we still have enough time we also want to take the side door that we removed from the house that's been sitting in storage for the last year we're going to use that and plug it into the side door that we have here on Gabby once that's in once our garage doors are in tomorrow we're going to be dried in on Gabby so it's really cold outside and we are starving I told Jeremy I was going to duck in really quickly and make us lunch and I just realized that we are completely out of our go-to Factor meals over the past 2 Goods simple living 50 to get 50% off your first Factor B box now I have to go outside and break the news to Jeremy about [Music] [Music] lunch could I would feel so if I could I found me through that open door [Music] I well we did it we got the whole front wall dry wall Jeremy is just doing the very last of the routering around the door and we are officially ready for tomorrow's garage door install we've got about 45 minutes of light left so I think it's just enough time to go grab the door and get that plugged in and that way after tomorrow dried in we keep saying that we've been so close but I think tomorrow's the day freaking mess here hello old friend L I've been here the whole time that's the first time I've been back in that room in months isn't that weird played such an important role in our lives for so long now we never go in there theer the old bathroom yeah that was a potty bucket room for a while I remember how could I ever forget How Could You Forget You didn't have to empty the buckets traumatized for life all right J we went to go get some shims and I'm taking a breather even even though I didn't have to haul the door over it's still heavy getting it into place so we took it off the house because it was exposed to the weather at the time and it was not holding up while it was leaking and warping and just doing weird things but now it's going to be inside a hallway so it actually works great I'm glad we kept it we have not finished this hallway off yet because we ran out of time and we had to prioritize getting Gabby dried in for the winter we're already into winter Gabby still not dried in but we're doing it tomorrow it's gonna happen so we haven't finished this because in order to put the roof on the hallway section we have to remove all the board and bat that we already have installed everything has to tie back into the house which means that this gate will end with all of our concrete uh ever log board and bat ins side it needs to be pulled away temporarily we're going to build the roof to This Ti back into the house like I said and we have to recut yes we all that board and bat so we're redoing what we already did not a huge deal also I thought it was going to be snowy and icy this time here turns out I was wrong so really we could have been doing it we may still one of the many things that we have on our to-do list put it on the [Music] list oh look at that like magic Daddy got all the colors to match Mama W oh good job no rubbing hey I think that's your best door install ever it's not bad for like 5 minutes trying I'll take it go I like it just leave it open for now actually we'll shut it I'll grab the knob and stuff you want to do that tomorrow it's dark yeah I'll do the knob my hands and fingers are freezing we'll do it while he does the garage stores sounds [Music] [Music] good today's finally the day Gabby is getting herself some garage doors and I can't wait to see what Melissa picked out it's kind of like Christmas morning around here yeah I have a really bad habit of picking not standard colors and so we want it to blend in with the everlog wood sighing but kind of stand alone at the same time you're in for a treat I really hope it looks good I'm sure it will I think it'll look good what this is going to do for us is not only dry gabian like we mentioned before but this will allow for us to trap a lot of warm air inside which is always nice for working when you're doing things like taping and mudding drywall it is an absolute requirement you need warm temperatures right so ideally you want to do all of your drywall in the spring or the summer or if you live in a warm climate it's not a big deal but you can't tape in mud in the cold we however live in a very cold climate and we always tend to do drywall right in the heart of Winter so we have to do it these tracks are going to be put over the drywall granted it isn't been taped mudded or textured as of yet it is less than ideal but we're going to have to work around all that stuff when the time comes or pull it down and put it back up I hope that's not the case but maybe what we end up having to do yeah it's definitely tricky this way but we're going to get it done I can tell that Melissa is anxiously awaiting the color reveal on these doors right is that what you're doing nervously awaiting if you don't like them then are you second guessing yourself no I'm sure they'll look fine it's dark brown right it's not dark brown it's it's like wood grain but it's on steel garage stores you know so it's out of his way here you never know I'm sure it'll look just fine let's find out together is this the color All Season Dew now I'm second guessing your color selection you got us the do really yeah come on all season so it works for every time so you got black over the over the de Melissa yeah over the de oh I love that yeah it's going to look good it's going to look great it'll match that siding really close yeah I think so too yeah no I like that a lot and this is going to match our trim okay perfect I love it oh I I did good turns out the selection was good it's been approved Mama did good you got do I got all season [Music] do is that your impression of a horse short I thought they' be like I didn't think they' be like a wooden yeah that's cool huh different yeah mhm and I look like look like open this second garage door has been installed and just like that Gabby is officially dried in we got it done before Christmas high five wo so we have a uh garage once again which is really nice both doors have been installed we're also going to be doing the garage door openers although we do not have power that has been uh turned on activated activated yeah we have all the roughing done through the hallway but because there is not a roof on the hallway yet they can't activate the power to Gabby so that's why we haven't turned it on so I think we're going to have to find some roundabout way of making that work because again I would love for this to be fully operational we can pull in there no more schlepping uh groceries and all that through the mud like we've been been doing for the last Almost 4 years now it's going to be really really nice yeah cannot wait so we reached our goal of having Gabby dried in before Christmas by just a couple days all of our Christmas company arrives tomorrow morning so you stay here and monitor the the wiring I'm going to run into town grab everything we need for Christmas and there is no working for the next couple days we're going to have some family time here's the wall button right here and it runs that one over there that's really quiet wow a really nice nice Motors they DC [Music] motors just very dependable units awesome if you have any trouble just give me a ring and [Music] okay we spent the next couple of days passing on family traditions and enjoying a few down days celebrating the gift of our savior together as a family the downtime always gets me thinking about the year behind us and the year that lies ahead as we approach another New Year's Eve it's common to assess Our Lives as a whole what we achieved and what we didn't the goals we set and the resolutions that perhaps we should take another go at that reflection always causes us to wish that we had said more worked less and spent more time with the ones that we love so why not make this a year where we do better at the little things the things that will actually matter in the end New Year's is sort of like a fresh start a brand new book with an opportunity to tell a whole new story and where we are right now doesn't determine where we'll be 300 65 days from today it merely determines where we start [Music] from [Music] yes it's a Red Rider with a compass and a whatever shoot your eye out shoot your eye out I told you oh open
