i think we have finally found out now i have it flat on the table no shims and i can measure uh i can set zero a little bit in here and get it to zero here and the same reading at the what would be the top of the column the top of the casting but in the rear here from the other side meaning turning around and doing the same measurement there and then on the front there in the front here i will measure two three hundredths um which is corresponding to this also it's a bit bell-mouthed so a bit [Music] too sloppy here which will correspond to the feeling you get when you rock it and that this distance maybe with only the column being another spindle being supported in the front you will get variation uh so logical and the way we have decided back and forth uh the owner and me we will um play in the casting here on top this plane here to mount some sort of uh support for the spindle when it's on the outer side also or the extreme uh stroke and uh i will also bore out uh or board the second first the outside of this plus of course to the face here and then plus the inside a little bit so then he can insert a sleeve some let's say two three centimeters or 20 30 millimeters inwards here to fit inside there maybe bore out yeah some two three millimeters so after much uh back and forth um i have at least established the situation where i have no shims measuring here and here aligning this i'm seeing that um this is correct on the top there that's a better surface than on down here and i see that i have done this in plane with the the let's say the base then would be the column then i have a slight bell mouth which would correspond to where we have the situation where a column is at the at the longest throw so out here and you will get then a deviation up and down rock so we decided the owner me that we should actually rectify this or improve this by i uh mailing out a milling then this um bore a little bit fatter here by two three millimeters maybe maybe in here and then he will insert a sleeve sorry for the drawing here i've also measured the machine the outside here and here because if you remember here the bore and there was a kind of support for the dial there we can use this surface maybe here also plus maybe a centric or i mean these is flat here and these 90 degrees so i will also machine a little bit outside here but this to get the middle one plane and use this as a better support for the column when it is at this longest row explain some of the fixes that can be done to counter for the sloppy board one is what the owner has asked me to do they need to bore out here so he will make an adapter and that can be bored off center thereby allowing the pinion to rack engagement if you turn this to be a little bit tighter which will also then force the to contact up here which will be the front uh the second is that he will use the uh at least use this for the dial which is connected to a plate that runs up and down of course with the pinion and gate with a quill extension um this together with some sort of sliding arrangement either just through here but through i guess a a sleeve here and fitting a more powerful or sturdier bigger diameter rod whatever so this either can be connected to the same plate and fix this better and or also then connected to another bigger plate and then number three [Music] the pouring out of the front here could be helpful because this is not contacting anyway i mean it's uh it's a bit bell-mouthed so bore this out fit the sleeve and then the last an extra support here which will steal of course from the um ability you have to extend the quill but anyway you can make this uh just easily on as an extension here and then this will be also impossible to make it off center and then you can adjust to to the correct positioning of the quilt actually i mean we're not talking about much here only some hundredths of a millimeter but still
