God Loves Enough to Warn

so i moved to hong kong six months ago and i thought it was going to be so hard to move a family of 12 to a foreign country in the middle of the pandemic with the protest going on but it's been crazy the people here have been so good to us it's like anything we need people have been so gracious but a question that keeps coming up the last last few weeks is people just say hey how has hong kong been in in your perspective what what what do you feel like god is doing right now and if i'm perfectly honest man i have some serious serious concerns and the reason is because the world is so crazy right now i i mean you just look at what's going on in the world and and the bible says jesus said look before i return the world is going to get wild so many crazy things are going to happen before i return but the bible also says that the people are going to be just like it was in the days of noah it says that in the days of noah people were just doing their normal thing eating drinking getting married doing their family stuff and then boom the flood came and destroyed them and jesus says when i come back i'm coming back to judge and he says it's going to be like the days of noah where before the judgment everyone's just going to be doing their thing and and that's why i'm concerned is i look at hong kong and i look at the people around and it just seems like no one is really concerned about the judgment of god about judgment day i feel like it's a lot like the u.s like you're following the pattern of the us churches where i even remember being told specifically by a pastor do not talk about judgment day do not talk about hell because people don't want to listen to that stuff that's not what they come to hear it's not like people are going to invite their friends if they hear there's a judgment day sermon coming and so we just kind of pretend it's not happening but that's insane because when the bible describes it in the book of revelation man listen to what god's word says revelation 20 starting in verse 11 he says then i saw a great white throne and him who seated in it from his presence earth and sky fled away and no place was found for them and i saw the dead great and small standing before the throne and books were opened then another book was opened which is the book of life and the dead were judged by what was written in the books according to what they had done and the sea gave up the dead that were in it death and hades gave up the dead who were in them and they were judged each one of them according to what they had done then death and hades were thrown into the lake of fire this is the second death the lake of fire and if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life he was thrown into the lake of fire because this is describing something that's actually gonna happen to get that that's that's what i'm concerned about is is it any second any second you are gonna stand before this throne with this god who the bible says there's lightning and thunder coming from his throne millions and millions of angels and you're gonna stand before this so right now you're sitting here on the earth but boom in a second you're going to be before the throne and that being decides whether you spend all of eternity in glory or all of eternity and agony and and it's crazy to me that people are just kind of like like they're not really believing it's gonna happen and this is exactly what jesus said would happen is that people are just gonna go on with life and so i just see the craziness of the world and i'm not seeing a response from people and do you understand and some of you may be saying well i don't believe in a judgment i don't believe god is that way i gotta ask you why why because in your mind you don't think he's gonna be that way you're just gonna go with whatever your thoughts or feelings are man for two thousand years people have trusted this book they've died defending this book not just because of the prophecies and archaeology or anything it's because it talks about a resurrected jesus who rose from the dead and many of us have experienced him and that's why we go man what they say about him is true and so what he says about the judgment is true it's going to be like the days of noah and too many people are just going to feel like there's no problem there's no trouble coming and i just see people more worried about the pandemic or a national security law than the eternal judgment of god and i know that people don't like to talk about it but it just feels like that is so evil for me to know this is coming and say nothing and what i'm most concerned about here in hong kong when i talk to people is the way people talk about salvation compared to what i read in the bible there's so many people who feel safe like well it's okay i'll come before the throne i'll be fine because i prayed the sinner's prayer and i asked jesus to come into my heart and i'm going man there do you know there is no sinner's prayer in the bible now why do you have this confidence look and the thing is i prayed that prayer too i remember being in high school and hearing this guy talking about heaven and hell talking about how i can be safe from it and i thought okay i need that i need that i need that i go forward i pray this prayer asking jesus come to my life and i remember this lady just said okay now you can know for sure you're going to heaven and she assured me i was going to have and i still remember the verses she told me she says in revelation 3 verse 20 jesus says he's knocking on the door that's the door of your heart let him in and he'll come in and then she said first john 5 13 says i write these things so that you may know that you have eternal life it says right there you can know that you have eternal life and so i felt confident because someone assured me of something but then i started reading this book and if you look at the context of those verses it's not about praying a prayer it's not about just making a one-time decision man in first john 5 it's true he says these things are written so you can know you have eternal life but what was written what exactly did he write first john 1 verse 6 if we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth in chapter 2 verse 3 it says and by this we know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands whoever says i know him but does not keep his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him and he says do not love the world or the things of the world if anyone loves the world the love of the father is not in him in chapter 3 it says no one who abides in him keeps on sinning no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him little children let no one deceive you whoever practices righteousness is righteous as he is righteous whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil for the devil has been sinning from the beginning you see all of first john is is about look you can look at your life if you hate your brother if you don't care for the poor if you don't do this this this then you know you're not a believer but but he says if you can see man the love of god in your heart and you can't keep sinning because his spirit is in you and you can't hate your brother but there's a desire for unity and love see these were the things that were written so that you can know that you have eternal life it wasn't about the fact that you prayed a prayer it's about the spirit really coming into you and changing your life and if you read revelation 3 verse 20 the other verse about jesus knocking the context of that is he's saying he's saying to this church you're not hot you're not cold you're just lukewarm so i'm gonna spit you out of my mouth he's talking about people who maybe claim to believe in jesus but they were lukewarm about he goes i'm spitting you out he goes you don't get it you're you're blind you're poor you're pitiable you're naked this is what the bible says look jesus had this encounter in luke he met a couple of people in luke 18 and 19 and the bible specifically says that they were rich men and the first one in luke 18 was this rich young ruler and he's saying to jesus yes jesus how do i get eternal life and jesus says to him well obey the commands and he's like i have and jesus okay sell everything you have and give it to the poor and it says the man walked away sad because he was a man of great wealth so he walks away from jesus and this is not some one-off weird thing where jesus you know said i i i'm demanding a lot of this person no this is the way jesus spoke in luke 9 verse 23 jesus said if anyone would come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me for whoever would save his life will lose it but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it this is the way jesus spoke if you want to follow me deny yourself pick up your cross and follow me don't try to save and hold on to your life see he didn't right now it seemed like so many people in hong kong believe like we have a choice well i can be one of those radical christians or i can just pray this prayer accept jesus as my savior and go to church every once in a while or something in between jesus didn't give us these options just like he said to that rich ruler man sell everything you have and give it to the poor and the man walks away sad but what's crazy is in the very next chapter chapter 19 he runs into another rich man his name is zacchaeus and he wants to see jesus so bad he climbs up a tree and jesus sees him and says zacchaeus get down from the tree i want to come to your house and the way zacchaeus responds it's like he just freaks out runs down and and jesus comes into his house and he just immediately jesus didn't even ask for anything and zacchaeus goes half of everything i own i'll give it to the poor and everyone i've ripped off i'll give you four times whatever i stole from you he was just ecstatic so happy and jesus goes today salvation has come to this house do you see the the totally different paths these two men took one was like oh i want jesus i want eternal life but you're telling me to give away everything i own and the other guy is looking at jesus going you got to be kidding me jesus christ is in my house here here's all my money just just take it just do it whatever because i have jesus one guy's sad one guy is excited and if i'm honest when i see hong kong i meet so many people who call themselves christians but they're so much like the rich young ruler where it's just like anything you ask him to do serving giving it's like you're bothering them and it makes them sad it's like can i just keep my life and add a little jesus meanwhile zacchaeus man he got it he saw jesus the other guy only saw his wealth you see if we really understood see zacchaeus says i i don't see that in hong kong i don't see people that are just like are you kidding me think about it think about what happened that day jesus the person think about this god spoke so this being spoke he opened his mouth and the whole world appeared think about that this being spoke and the whole world appeared and then he says to you i want a relationship with you i i want to know you so badly that i'm going to let people torture me so that i pay for everything you've done wrong because i want you that badly man the reaction of zacchaeus is a reaction we should have like are you kidding well why why do i get this we want we shouldn't be sitting here going oh but but you know i i'm a little worried about my my savings or the creator of the universe wants a relationship with you he wants to forgive you of everything you've ever done and he wants to know you you guys i'm just concerned because i don't see people with this overwhelming joy the bible says a joy that is inexpressible because we know god and we're one with him i mean way too many people that are counting the cost and just going gosh i don't know if i can do this and i know the way people in hong kong are where where man there's like this work ethic where well i'll try harder i'll try harder i'll do more you guys this is not about working harder it's about god opening your eyes to who he is you know like that passage in in revelation 3 where the lukewarm person he says you don't get it you're you're blind it's like that blind man luke 18 that was crying out to jesus lord jesus have mercy on me don't don't walk away from what i just said and go okay i'll try harder because the bigger concern is maybe this desire isn't in you because you're actually still blind you don't know what a treasure jesus is otherwise you would be thrilled like zacchaeus was [Music] so i took the month of august just to pray for the city of hong kong i i fasted i prayed and just begged god believe in him attitude and that you would you would raise up a new group of people like zacchaeus and maybe right now you don't get it man just be honest with the lord and say god i think i'm lying because i don't think you're that great i'm like the rich young ruler and i'm looking at my my family i look at my money i'm looking at my life and and i'm comparing it and it's like you guys just pray and be honest and say god please open my eyes because i know i should be more excited about knowing the god of the universe but maybe there's others of you right now as i've been talking as you hear the scriptures you're getting serious and you're realizing man i actually believe i'm gonna be standing before the throne any second and i actually believe like what you said that i can know the son of god who spoke the world into existence and he loves me and sacrifice for me i want this i want this how do i get started man we'll give you a way to contact us at the end of this video but right now man i just beg you just get on your face maybe for the first time before you actually see god face to face maybe today's the day where you get on your knees and you actually picture god in heaven in all of his glory as your coming judge and as your savior and you say to him jesus i believe you created this world i believe you died for me and i am so happy to receive you as my king and then may your life change now because his spirit coming into you may you get involved with the local church and have your life be transformed because this wasn't just something that jesus did years ago he's alive today and he's knocking the door of your heart you
