Glory Within: The Power of Speaking in Tongues | Corey Russell

hey guys here we are were just plowing through the glory within Ceres the podcast I've just been we've been taking our time with looking at the three different ways to access the life of the Spirit of meditation in the word John 15 fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit second Corinthians 13 verse 14 and now we're going to spend the next couple of podcasts looking at the last one and it's praying in the Holy Spirit this is my favorite one the book again is called the glory within the interior life and the power of speaking in tongues many believers focus more on the exterior life than their interior life but I'm giving a radical call to the whole body of Christ focus on the inside and everything on the outside will begin to bear forth that fruit there's so much to say about this I want to talk specifically about praying in our prayer language praying and that unknown tongue praying in our prayer language the book of Acts is very clear that there is another experience after salvation that includes what's called the baptism or the immersion into the Holy Spirit and that you see in many instances in the book of Acts that is accompanied by this immersion is the evidence of the speaking of new tongues or this prophesying or other random different things that take place but you see tongues happen time and time again throughout the book of Acts well I want to begin to talk into that now first Corinthians 12 through 14 go ahead turn there with me to first Corinthians 14 there's lots of different confusion around this reality right here because in first Corinthians 12 Paul is addressing the Parenti in church and what's happening in the Corinthian church people are showing up to church and while you have unbelievers there present you have people that are that are all from different backgrounds and you have these people just shouting out a whole bunch of unknown tongues and there's no interpretation in the corporate setting and Polus and guys there's a bunch of confusion it's chaos at church stop it the only way that I want you to speak in tongues in a corporate setting is that there's interpretation he goes and if you don't have interpretation I want you to prophesy so that everybody is edified everybody knows what's going on he is calling forth order in a corporate setting but in no ways is diminishing the power of speaking in tongues because he talks about the corporate dimension and then in first Corinthians 14 he seems to shift him from a corporate dimension that's you begin to see a corporate gift of tongues that is used for Corp identification but Paul begins to lay forth is crazy verse in 1st Corinthians 14 verse 18 he says I thank my God that I speak in tongues more than you all I think my God that I speak in tongues what do you know and then the 1st Corinthians 14 verse 5 because I wish you all spoke with tongues because I want every operating in this unknown tongue but he's not talking about the tongue that you would shoot at a church he's talking about a personal prayer language between your spirit and the Spirit of God between your spirit and the Spirit of God in this book that I've written is about uncapping that's been 5 6 7 chapters walking through the different benefits of what happens when you are engaging in your personal prayer language the sad thing is is that the thing that the charismatic sar most known for is the thing we do the least of and the Apostle Paul showed up and says I thank God I speak in tongues mourn you all I mean that is a bold statement for the Apostle to show up to church saying we don't need to have a contest I know that I speak in tongues on a regular daily basis more than anybody in this room I mean stop for a second and consider the greatest Christian ever I mean the man who wrote pretty much the whole New Testament a man who did more for the gospel than any person and this man said that he lived perpetually praying in tongues this is glorious whether he was building a tent whether he was preaching whether he was walking between one city to another whether he was in a prison the man was living in tongues what does this tell us of the value priority and glorious speaking in tongues well I want you to tell me two first Corinthians 14 verse 2 I'm gonna begin to lay out a couple of the benefits of speaking in tongues I want to just to tell you clearly unapologetically speaking in tongues has changed my life speaking in tongues has changed my life and it has brought forth so many glorious realities in my personal life in my character and in my ministry it has changed me from the inside out and I believe that it is the gift it is the hidden gift that God wants to bring to the forefront to unlock the door into the greater gifts for the endtime Church I believe that praying in tongues is a gateway gift I believe it's a gift that if we steward and give ourselves to it is going to open the door to the greater gifts that God has for us look with me in 1st Corinthians 14 verse 2 he says this for he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God that's the first thing right there many people if you begin to give yourself to praying in tongues you're gonna find that you have a problem and it's called distraction that your mind wanders after every five seconds well if that happens to you know that you're normal and like and that you're like every you every one of our minds wonder from time to time or mine is like a cat with a ball of yarn running everywhere and what I have found when I'm speaking in tongues is that the reality and the revelation and I'm not talking into the air I'm not talking into the air I'm not talking to demons I'm not talking to man but I am speaking straight to the throne room of heaven and I have a direct phone line between my spirit and the Spirit of God I focus with my mind's eye God sitting on the throne you've heard some of the earlier series of podcast revelation chapter for God on the throne and you see the heavenly sanctuary and God on the throne when I speak in tongues I am picturing with my mind's eye God on the throne and then of the other things that I focus on is God on the inside of me Christ in me the hope of glory many believers lose focus with that but I have found that it's been easier for me to focus what I understand I'm speaking to someone I want you to know right now you may be the weakest littlest Christian in the body of Christ but I want you to know right now you have a direct phone line to the president of the universe you have a direct phone line to the President of the universe you have he you have his ear you have his engagement he is deeply connected to you and that you can speak straight to him I love that realization that I can talk to God anytime that's the first one right there the second one he says this in the spirit he speaks mysteries when you and I speak in tongues speaking of personal prayer language we are speaking hidden truths divine truths are coming out of our spirit straight to the throne room of God and we are prophesying out of our very own mouth mysteries okay mysteries Matthew 13 says the mysteries of the kingdom have been given to you and that these mysteries aren't things hidden from you 30 things that have been hidden for you God's favorite game is hiding go seek and God loves to hide the deep mysteries of his heart of who he is of what he's like of what he's doing hiding them in the mystery of the babblings of tongues God loves to hide things so he can find them he doesn't hide them so that we go on this forever search we're not playing hide-and-go-seek with my kids I don't end up building some mineshaft down a thousand feet and hiding down there for four weeks while my kids go crazy so where's dad and I'm down there saying oh I got him now I got him now know you've got a good father and he hides to be found he hides to be found and when you and I speak in tongues we are speaking mysteries things that are hidden in the Word of God concerning Jesus things that are hidden in the Word of God concerning the father things that are hidden in the Word of God concerning you and now when you speak in tongues what you're doing is you are picking the brain of the Holy Spirit and you are creating an atmosphere of that revelatory anointing in the word and in the spirit you're creating an atmosphere of revelation so that divine truths break through and come with light and clarity to you that's what happens is you build an atmosphere around you and you engage the revelatory realm I hear people all the time said I want to increase in the spirit of Revelation how do I do it pray in tongues for extended periods of time pray in tongues for extended periods of time you do that and you will begin to see the atmosphere shift over your life I promise you right now we need a body of Christ to get breakthrough into the mysteries of God the Apostle Paul is marked by one thing it's called the mysteries of the kingdom the mysteries of Jesus Christ and as we began to pray in the Holy Spirit we will begin to tap in and begin to probe in into those mysteries of Jesus Christ father I ask you right now you would release a revolution of praying in the Holy Spirit and that you would unlock mysteries in the name of Jesus amen
