twelve have you ever stopped to ask yourself why did Jesus pick 12 disciples I got a theory for you maybe it's because he knew something we need to learn and that is not only is it important to have the right people in our life it's also important to have the right people in the right place that's right everyone in our life has a place it's our job to put them there and when something is this consequential we can't afford to be casual in the way that we manage them we've got to manage them intelligently cuz listen to me your greatest joy and your greatest pain will come from the same place relationships our Creator has given us a blueprint we put it in a book call relational intelligence and I want to help you learn the creator's way of defining aligning and assessing and activating your greatest relationships for your greatest potential relational intelligence [Music] John chapter 12 verse one says six days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus lived whom Jesus raised from the dead here a dinner was being given in Jesus's honor Martha served while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with Jesus then Mary took about a pint of pure nard and expensive perfume she poured it on Jesus's feet wiped his feet with a hair and the whole house was filled with the fragrance of perfume but one of his disciples Judas Iscariot who was later to betray him objected why wouldn't his perfume sold and money given to the poor is worth a year's wages he did not say that because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief and as a keeper of the money in the bag he used to help himself to what was put in it leave her alone jesus replied it was intended that she saved this perfume for the day of my burial you will always have the poor among you but you will not always have me I want to talk from this subject in our time together family give him what he wants give him what he wants this past weekend many persons all over the place celebrated a day that we designated as Valentine's Day somebody say Valentine and for those of us who are exposed to social media platforms we were inundated with images and pictures and posts and captions about amazing experiences that people had receiving and expression expressing adoration and appreciation for somebody significant in their life and I think it's important I think it's appropriate God is love and he allows us some time to experience love by people on two legs however being a realness I do have to flip the coin and give you the other side remind you everything that glitters didn't go and while some people had amazing experiences this weekend some people did not have a victorious Valentine's Day somebody wanted to go out and they stayed in somebody wanted a quiet evening with the object of their affection and the focus of their attention but they ended up in a crowd with people they didn't know and did like somebody wanted a necklace and they got a bracelet somebody got a bracelet and they wanted a ring while y'all oh it was Shane I ain't even made it like that I'm just making a point the point that I'm making is that everybody did not have an amazing experience on Valentine's Day there are times where we are deeply disappointed and some people's disappointment does not mean they are unappreciative it just mean they are in relationship with somebody that's unaware of what their love language really is did you hear what I just said yeah they are it may just be they are in relationship with someone who is unaware of what their love language really is so that person has the right motive but the wrong motion has the right intention but the wrong execution because they are given the person they're with what they want them to have but they're not giving them what they want and if any relationship is going to be wholesome and healthy and sustainable the partners involved must learn how to speak each other's love language what's a love language pastor Daniel's a love language is a way to express and experience love it's a way to express and experience love and many people can be in relationships and be frustrated because somebody is speaking a language that does not scratch the itch of your heart they're giving you what they like but not what you want somebody scared to say Amen this morning I know preacher are you hearing what I'm saying so this means people who are in relationship with each other must be willing to pause for the cause listen to me y'all to pause for the cause and to teach who you with how to love you teach me how to love you teach me how to love you and just as it is in our relationship with people so it is in our relationship with God God has a love language and we are spending a few weeks attempting to unpack one of those love languages it is his most important love language it is his primary love language it's a love language he loves more than any other love language and this love language I'm referring to is what the Bible calls worship somebody say worship what is worship pastor Darius worship simply means to express worth to express worth it doesn't mean to feel gratitude it means to express worth because people do not benefit from the love we field people only benefit from the love we show if you love me show some signs and all throughout scripture God consistently communicates to his people I need you to worship me I want you to worship me I need you to worship me I want you to worship me I need you to worship me I want you to worship me I need you to worship me I want you to worship me the question is why God have an insecurity problem where he needs to be frequently reminded by me of how good he is does God have an amnesia issue where he's forgotten who he is and needs me to remind him no no no no no all of God's instruction is for my benefit all of God's instruction is for my benefit so whenever God tells me to do anything is not because he needs me to do it is because I need to do it so when he tells me to forgive my enemies it's not because he needs me to do it it's because I need to do it because I heard one quote say the unwillingness to forgive is like drinking poison and expecting the one you met at the die y'all not talking to me today but I'm gonna okay right over here here I come are y'all following me here no no we instructed to worship because the reward of worship is God in other words God's knows in order for you to function the way I intended for you to function you need more than principles about me information about me that comes from the preaching you need experiences with me you need more than information about me you need experiences with me and what a worship does is it gives you more than principles it gives you presents and last week we taught you that the presence of God gives you three things the first thing it gives you is provision there are some things we only get in the presence of God there are some emotional needs that are only met in the presence of God joy is one of those things in his presence there's fullness of joy there's some things that we only get in his presence provisions in his presence principles in his presence what's that those are messages that we need answers to questions that you can't get in sermons answers to questions that you can't get in a book words from God there are times where we find ourselves facing problems and we can't figure out a solution and then all of a sudden we have this epiphany where this idea comes into our mind and we say now I know what to do and we're saying to ourselves that was a good idea and God's standing on the outs saying no that was a god idea I injected that thought into your mind but we only get that in the presence of God so much this provision is in his presence principles are in his presence here it is number three power oh I felt the my Pentecostals I felt all right there I said power is in his presence right that is the ability to execute what we've been instructed in it means that we can have a notebook and a Notes app filled with notes that we cannot apply without God's help and without God's assistance that only comes from the presence of God and a person who is living a life with simply principles but not presence is a person that is converted they may be saved at going to heaven they're just living an inferior spiritual life it's the equivalent of having a phone that can surf the web and email and text in where you can view videos and record videos and take pictures and you only use it to make calls that's not evil it's not immoral but it is an under utilization of what you have and sometimes I believe God is leaning over the banister of heaven looking looking at you and I and Santa us do you know what all your phone can do I'm not making sense and so because this area is so essential and so important we can't afford to be elementary in our understanding of it family and so and so if if you're like me this is an area you want to do well and you want to do right because when it comes to this area of worship because God's not desperate just because it's offered doesn't mean it's accepted just because it's offered doesn't mean it's accept that I want to do this right and I want to do this well and our text today gives us an example on how to give God what he wants the Bible says Jesus is in this place this city called Bethany and while he's there he goes to this home Luke tells us as a home of Simon the leper and this woman walks in with this box this alabaster box and she walks past everybody in the house she opens up the box she takes perfume and she pours it on Jesus's feet then she takes her hair and begins to wipe his feet with her hair and the people that are observing her activity are looking at her saying it don't take all the day while she doing all that half while they clapping in my ear was this lady screaming behind my back why are they singing this long its pastor here today let me every time the dope the double doors open I need to look to the right to see who's walking out the double doors I need to know Wow while we're doing all of this and the Bible says while they kept on talking she kept on wiping they kept talking she kept wiping I said they kept talking she kept wiping they kept talking she kept like me because culturally during that time the glory of a woman was her hair so when she was using her hair to wipe his feet it was symbolic of her giving him glory it was an expression of worship and she's saying you may not like it but you can't stop me because you don't know like I know what this man did for me I'm gonna say that again you don't know like I know what this man did for me and one of the people who had an opinion about it was a man named Judas Judas was one of Jesus's disciples a minty and apprentice a team member so you had somebody close to Jesus speaking for Jesus that was misrepresenting Jesus they were close to Jesus speaking for Jesus but misrepresenting Jesus close to Jesus speaking for Jesus but misrepresenting Jesus and this woman was able to be an effective worshipper because she refused let Judas's voice replaced jesus' voice are you here and there are many people who are having inferior spiritual experiences because yet they've been taught by Judas but they have not been taught by Jesus dude oh my judas represents somebody that was close to jesus speaking for jesus but did not accurately represent Jesus did you hear what I just said and there are many perspectives that people have on spirituality some people say things like this doesn't work it's not working for me and there are people who have abandoned the faith and then pursued inferior and unproductive spiritual practices because they say this one isn't working right when they don't know the version of the faith that they received was a version that came from Judas but it didn't come from Jesus it came from somebody that was close to Jesus speaking for Jesus but did not represent Jesus and sometimes Judas is somebody you loved and when you love somebody who gives you something you don't evaluate what they gave you to see if it's right well are we suffering cuz you're practicing a faith given to you by Judas Judas can be my other Church Judas can be my other pastor Judas could be my previous Sunday school teacher Judas could be my Vacation Bible School teacher Judas can be the prominent evangelist Fugit Judas could be my favorite YouTube teacher Judas Judas could be someone who loves Jesus and is close to Jesus and is speaking for Jesus but not properly representing Jesus and some people are living a inferior spiritual existence cuz you heard from Judas but you hadn't heard from Jesus you-you-you-you I talked about forgiveness earlier you know why some people are averse to the idea of forgiveness because their idea of forgiveness came from Judas it didn't come from Jesus they think to forgive means to forget y'all miss forgive means to pardon it means to refuse to hold against it doesn't mean to forget because it's some things you need to remember you're missing because their action was a reflection of their character so you're no longer judging them but you got to know how to place them you can steal from me and I'll forgive you I just won't leave my wallet around you anymore and some people are versed to certain things because the version they got came hallelujah I got Fahrenheit tonight I got a hold my peace I got one more service but it came from Judas it didn't come from Jesus oh but you're gonna learn today I feel something getting ready to break out at the 11:30 service I'll say breakthroughs getting ready to hit you today God says this next season I'm getting ready to take you through I'm not getting ready not just to give you a breakthrough and deliverance from bad sin I'm getting ready to give you deliverance from Bad Religion come here Holy Ghost I say God's getting ready to give some of us deliverance from Bad Religion [Applause] [Music] she got the wipin they were talking but she didn't stop wiping she was not watch this she was not consumed and controlled by their opinion cuz you're not worshiping until you're worshipping for an audience of one [Music] she probably why she oh I forgot so over here I didn't even know you were on my row I got so caught up focusing on thinking about reflecting on the goodness of Jesus I forgot you were even here [Applause] some people are living in inferior spiritual existence because they learn from Judas and not Jesus and Judas is telling you things that things Jesus is telling you things don't matter to God that do Judith Judith tell you worship in your own way nope worship in one of his ways no no no you can't just give him what you want him to have that's what Judas is just given what you want and a half Judas I ain't got to come to church Church ain't really you know I can worship wherever I am yeah but are you though I can worship at home right but are you did you hear it I just said I can worship at home yeah but are you worshiping at home you probably not worshiping at home you're probably watching at home you're probably not worshiping at home because when you are a worshiper worship creates an appetite for the presence of God that cannot just be contained within the confines of isolated worship I need to be around high other people that wanna worship Him I need to be around other praises yeah so you're right you can worship at home but are you yeah so you're not not coming to church because you're not oh cuz cuz you can worship at home you're not coming to church cuz you're not a worshiper Oh [Music] you ain't worshiped all week it didn't mean you're a bad person God still love you you probably still go into heaven you just not when you're worshipper we don't have to make you we have to keep you away when you're worshiping you'll come to the 11:30 service run by Popeyes get a chicken sandwich take a 20-minute nap say I got to get the finite cuz I need fire I need fire more than I need a nap I need fire more than I need Netflix you ain't hungry [Applause] Hyundai hey hey hey hey don't start don't start nothing won't be nothing she say this is for an audience of one and while they're talking Jesus silence those that were speaking for him he said stop speaking for me you're misrepresenting me you're telling people I won't stuff I don't want and you're telling people I don't want stuff I do won't stop and so he speaks to the woman and say learn from me this matters to me she's giving me what I want when Matthew tells the end of this story he's saying what this woman is doing will never be forgotten in other words Jesus saying I want people to learn from her this is what I like right here this is my love language right here what she is doing is is reflective of the way I want my people to respond to my goodness I want her to be remembered oh my god Jesus Sarah I want her to be remembered because I'm always going to remember her now remember I taught you the difference between God's memory and people's memory when people remember they think something when God remembers he does something the Bible says he remembered Noah and it made it stop raining when God remembers he does something yeah so I want to I want to learn from this woman cuz this if this is the pattern for a worshiper I want to follow that pattern so there are three things about her worship that I feel like we can learn and incorporate into our own number one this woman offered grateful worship grateful worship now gratitude requires intentionality because every human heart leans toward entitlement when God has been good to you so long his goodness becomes normal and there were things that used to be a blessing that you're taken for granted some of you are sitting in riding in working in answered prayer that you used to pray for now you're complaining about did you hear what I'm saying yeah yeah you're going hey come on it's something you used to pray for but when it becomes normal to you you start complaining about at one point you just wanted to space now the space is too small right cuz the human heart leans toward entitlement that's normal it doesn't mean you're evil it means you're human that's human is what happens with our children your children have no idea how favored they are because your favor has been their normal they don't know what it's like to have one TV in the house and everybody have to share they don't know what it's like not to have come on y'all not talking to me nah not to help the owners they don't know what it's like it's their normal and the enemy wants to keep us in entitled he wants to keep us in entitlement because entitlement is the enemy to contentment and until you content you won't be happy and until you're happy you won't make my bet you won't make wise decisions because if most of us are honest we made our worst decisions when we were unhappy in some area preach Holy Spirit let me come okay are y'all all right y'all got a little tight all right I said we have made some of our worst decisions when we were okay I got a real right here when we were unhappy we make some of our worst decisions when you are content you're more wise because you're not seduced out of lack yeah you can look at opportunities and individuals that are not for you and say no I'm good I'm good all by myself come on is there anybody here that can say pasta even it's Valentine's Day it was me myself and I and I was happy by myself instead of being miserable with somebody I ain't want I'm content godliness with contentment is great gain this woman was grateful gratitude is the antidote for entitlement gratitude is warfare you have to make yourself be grateful it's the only way you break out of entitlement you have to war with your tendency to take for granted God's goodness and there has to be intentional mindfulness and reflection on the goodness of God in previous and present seasons of your life you see the Bible says this woman this woman washes Jesus feet but Jesus wasn't the only one at that table somebody give me verse 1 in the back in the back give me verse 1 I gotta go we got 10 minutes and we got to get out of here 6 days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus lived whom Jesus raised from the dead wait a minute somebody should have been shouting right there ok ok let's try it again let's try it again verse 1 6 days before Passover Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus lived whom Jesus raised from the dead okay y'all not getting it so let's go to verse 2 here a dinner was given in Jesus's honor Martha serve while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him [Applause] yah-yah-yah shot she's worshipping like she's worshipping in Chapter 12 because she's grateful for what God did in Chapter 11 in chapter 11 Lazarus had been dead for four days Jesus raised the damn thing back to life so when she goes to the table and she's worshiping Jesus she's thinking about Lazarus who wouldn't be sitting at the table in Chapter trial if Jesus and did what he did in Chapter 11 do you remember your chapter 11 do you remember when something was dead do you remember when you were dead if you're still alive in chapter trail give him a praise for what he did in just 11 I feel we gotta go we don't I don't normally do this in a service like this but just indulge me one time just tell your neighbor okay I'll say neighbor this praise is for what he did in my chapter 11 you don't know like I know what the law okay I said [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] she-she-she was grateful I gotta go you could be see gotta go some people like what was that what was that that that's singing in the message part what was that yeah that's that that's an expression in historic culture called whooping and and some people look at it as as theatrics and they say in circus and they say it's ostentatious and they say it's unnecessary some people say it's cultural but it has its history in one of the most biblical forms of New Testament Christianity in American history one of the most biblical forms of New Testament Christianity in American history was seen in my grandfather's generation that's why everybody are you hearing what I'm saying it was seen in my grandfather's generation where people in the name of a God would spray him with water hoses and then he would get sprayed with a water hose on Friday and still walk in church on Sunday and say this is the day that the Lord hasn't yeah yeah yeah it it has its roots it has its roots in an expression of Christianity that goes back to days of oppression and slavery when slaves could not speak freely to one another about their attempt to get out of their predicament so they would seen the message they would hide the message in a song and the slave masters thought they were singing but they didn't know they were talking to one another and so when they were gonna meet by the riverside one would say I'm gonna lay down my burden Dambach and the master thought they were singing but they were talking to one another say meet me by the river so when a preacher starts to whooping he's singing a message [Music] [Applause] [Music] yeah I sit down them I'm done almost yeah grateful were sure I'm grateful this was a trap I was pulling up on the other campus I'll pull up on the other campus and went stamped and we're trying to figure out where to put people there the overflow is overflowing we were trying to figure out where to put people I got this philosophy moderate buildings I mentioned earlier moderate buildings used them multiple times moderate size builders use them multiple times water starts building so that you don't over build and under utilize and overextend yourself with that so multiple services the utilization of technology from time to time we don't envision having any any any one campus that's all video that's not our vision but we will use periodic video from time to time and any campus and at this church we've been trained it's not about the man it's about the message we've been we've been trained here you watch him on the screen I watch the Super Bowl on the screen i watch it yeah okay y'all missed it I watched the MTV Awards on the screen and so no we we don't envision having any campus that's all video that's not our vision but because we do multiple service from time to time we utilize video cuz cuz because we believe it's not about the man it's about the message and we want to preserve our pastor right what we want longevity for him so we're trying to we're trying to figure out where to put people and in Richard when I pull up on the line I said to myself today I'm from kill Michael Mississippi [Applause] I'm not supposed to be here I don't deserve any of this y'all miss you but I say ya some problems you're complaining about a good problems and you gotta pause for a minute and remember where you came from some of you came from not that you came from nothing and God spared your life [Applause] I'm grateful have you forgotten your chapter 11 have you been healed from leprosy so long you forgot what it feels like the itch have you been free so long you forgot what it feel like to be bound have you had a sane mind so long that you forgot what it felt like to be on the edge where you're about to lose it have you been for so long you forgot what it feels like to be empty [Music] forgot your chapter lever because you can only worship in Chapter 12 if you remember chapter left whatever your thing is you better know how to remind yourself of it I'm from kill Michael Mississippi I shouldn't be here [Applause] whenever you think about where you are not and where you wish you were remember where you could have been how far you come don't forget your chapter 11 that would look that was God just cuz you call it look don't make it look that was God common grace she was a grateful worshiper number two she was a genuine worshiper I've never seen anybody worship God with perfume but her worship was consistent with her own personality and wiring she's like this the way I do it you see they're all of these ways that the Bible says we should worship so that no matter what your personality is you can find your expression in one of them the Bible says praise God in the dance they don't mean everybody should dance but it means that it means that you ought to let the dancers dance that even if their feet not moving their mouth is testifying of the goodness of God so the dancer should dance and the clapper should clap and the shoulders should shout and the rockers should Rock and the weepers should weep and the mourners should learn but you gotta find your genuine expression of worship to God because if it's not genuine it's not real and if it's not real is not accepted when everybody's doing the same thing somebody's being fake this genuineness is one of the reasons men can't see themselves expression worship in a masculine way in church cuz there's no room for genuineness for man to say no when I do it I might not do it like she do it but let me do it the way I do it I might want to beat my chest I might want to walk it off I might want to scream but it's got to be genuine I'm done we getting ready to get out of here we got fire a night tonight and I feel I feel I feel I felt prophetic heaviness God's gonna get people answers this evening I feel that I feel that so we got to get ready to go but last but not least she was grateful she was genuine just be genuine just be genuine don't don't feel like your worship is not sufficient for God because it's not like the person behind you just be genuine right say hey this the way I do it just let me cry don't don't put no Holy Ghost circle around me I'm fine [Applause] [Music] don't rub my back leave me alone I'm in his presence it took me all week to get in his presence now you rubbing my back you're gonna take me out let me cry I'm alright hey let me cry I'm alright and number three it was generous now this is the distinction I'm making in this series on worship this is a distinction umm I'm not just encouraging us to worship I'm trying to redefine worship for us I'm trying to redefine it I'm arguing that many of our understanding of worship comes from Judas and not Jesus that the Bible teaches I believe that if I am a jumper but not a giver I'm not a worshiper you see I'm going with this okay because worship means to express worth and it comes from a heart that says to God nobody matters to me more than you nothing matters to me more than you and there are two mirrors the Bible says that reveals was in our heart our words and our resources whew out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks and where my treasure is there my heart is also some people didn't mind investing this weekend cuz their hearts there it was dinner it was candy it was bracelets cuz that's where their heart is its worship it's saying I don't just worship with my words I wash it with my possessions because you matter to me more than anything cuz I know this is your love language I don't care what you to say this is your love language we see it in Genesis chapter number 14 the Bible says a man named Abraham went and rescued his family member named lot and he has to fight here to get his cousin in them here yeah the gather is cousin him saying let's go rescue lots and they fight and they could have lost their own life give them the scripture because they're not gonna believe me and the Bible says they rescue a lot and they're on their way back in Genesis chapter number 14 and they run into someone named Melchizedek the Bible says Melchizedek was a king of Salem and a priest of God you see that King and priest nobodies both of them except for one person Jesus he's king of Salem King and priest of the Most High God he brought out bread and wine didn't we have communion today because it Jesus's Last Supper he gives out bread and wine milk esident we learned in the book of Hebrews has no beginning and no end it's because he's not a normal priest he's what's called a christophany he is a pre manifestation of Jesus in the Old Testament before he shows up in the New Testament it's Jesus in another form and the Bible says that Melchizedek blessed Abraham and Abraham was so grateful because of the blessing of God on his life the Bible says that out of everything he had verse 20 it says that he gave Melchizedek a tenth hmm he said wait a minute I could have died in this battle but you saved my life here whoa I almost lost my mind here I wouldn't got in this school without you here I wouldn't got into this company without you here is some stuff about me that got out but there's some other stuff you kept under wraps thank you for keeping my name clean here and melchizedek didn't even ask for it he gave it to him cuz it was love not long someone may say well pastor that's our isolated incident no Abraham had a grandson named Jacob and in Genesis chapter number 28 the Bible says Jacob does this it says he said he made a vow saying if God will be with me is he with you he said and will watch over me is he watching over you he said and give me food to eat and clothes to wear has he done that for you so that I may return safely to my father's household is it getting you back and forth safely he says then the Lord will be my god this stone our set up will be a pillar will be God's house and out of all that you give me I will give you a 10 [Music] God didn't even require it but Jacob gave it why didn't jacob say a fifth or sixth or seventh or eighth could it be because his grandfather taught from generation to generation that the way you respond to god with your resources is by giving him the number of testing the tenth ten commandments that test your obedience ten plagues that test Pharaoh's heart ten lepers that tested gratitude but if and when the here it is this is Genesis not Exodus everybody say Genesis say not Exodus Moses wasn't born yet so the law wasn't given yet so we see this being practiced in the Bible before the law is even given so when people say the law established this principle of generosity the law wasn't even given and Abraham and Jacob did it because they did it out of love not law and then when the law was instituted God confirmed yeah I want this and he mandated that for his people during the law but it's not a matter out of law is a matter of love just belong to you [Music] it's no grocer Ned I'm not asking those kind of questions you deserve it woof nobody wants to go out on Valentine's Day with somebody to head to make take them out somebody sitting across the table saying you gonna order all that y'all didn't hear me so even even if even if this even if it's not even if it wasn't mandated in the law people should've did it because he deserved it cuz whatever you asked me for God you deserve I want to be a biblical worshipper not a worshipper they learn from Judas a worshipper they learn from Jesus cuz nothing matters to me more to you so for me when I went when I give is like me lifting my hands this morning I got a little emotional because I remember what it's like to be in college I remember is like when I first came to this area and the rescue mission that existant written is is the place we got our furniture that's why I got my furniture I remember going to apply for food stamps and they would not give them to me and I said in my car and cried cuz my wife and I had set and I had moved them up here trying to follow God and I had no idea how we were gonna provide for him I said my car and cried before I went home I remember not having a coat attending Princeton seminary cuz I didn't know these winners were like this and I could not afford one and Deacon Perry Mackenzie who's in heaven now saw me and bought me a coat [Music] and as I gave today so good to me it's like lifting my hands this is yours you're not a more than a TV more than the latest shoes you deserve it it's yours because whatever you ask for you deserve my hallelujah belongs to you [Music] beloved I love your presence father [Music] what's up found pastor Darius here I
