[Music] okay everyone shabbat shalom um today is obviously the shabbat but it's also the day directly before shavuot and because of that i wanted to look at the gifts from the groom it will make sense as to why i've linked it to shavuot because our groom our messiah has given us gifts um and it's all tied in to when the slide wants to change to the ancient hebrew wedding model we know that all of scripture from beginning to end is about a bride and a groom about an unfaithful bride and the price that a groom had to pay to be able to redeem her and let's we're not going to go through the whole ancient hebrew wedding model series that was a four-parter but i just want to us to have a very quick reminder of the order and the stages and how this plays into the moadim so initially you had this matchmaking stage where it was usually it would involve both the parents and the bride in the group once the match was found and both families were happy you would begin the erusi so the betrothal stage in the modern day we have engagement but the mentality behind modern day engagement is very different to the biblical hebrew betrothal engagement cut in the modern day is kind of like this preliminary stage and in case it goes wrong that's it i've got to get out clause in the in the ancient hebrew wedding model you were legally married at this stage you just hadn't consummated so you had this is why you had the shidduchien before it because once you were betrothed it was serious uh so you would have the katuba the i don't call it the contract but these were the terms of covenant you know what does the groom expect from the bride and what will the bride expect from the group you know and there would have been like an inventory list and all that kind of things but essentially it was the terms of covenant the terms of their marriage you will do this for me and i will do that for you and from elohim if you go to exodus 19 it says if you obey my commands and you will then i will be your elohim and you shall be my people this is bridal covenantal language that you're seeing um and we've already done in the ancient hebrew wedding model series that you know mount sinai was essentially a betrothal or marriage ceremony uh the moha would be part of the you know when the two families would be kind of hashing it out uh the bride price would be established now traditionally this became 50 pieces of silver which is off the top of my head like 25 or 30 grand in pounds the modern equivalent so quite a lot um then you would have had the covenantal meal so this would have sealed the deal uh and traditionally the bride the groom in his father would have come to the house of the bride knocked on the door and if she would have opened she this was a term of acceptance so when yeshua says i stand at the door and knock this is again uh wedding covenantal language and usually the covenant meal would always involve bread and wine then the the bride and groom would undergo mikveh they would uh baptism in in english now we know that obviously as part of our journey in the faith we have to go through the mikvah and we know that yeshua had to undergo a baptism and he says that the baptism i'm going to go through you cannot bear yet but again we cover this in the ancient hebrew wedding model and then you would have had the matan so traditionally once the betrayal was set and it was legalized the groom would go off for traditionally yeah and go to prepare a place but what he would do he would give gifts to his bride as a token that he was returning okay and it was a pledge as it were then they were legally betrothed they were considered married just not consummated so if the bride was unfaithful during that time she she could have been stoned for adultery and all these things like to to come out of this would have required a divorce okay so it's not like the modern day engagement where it's like oh let's see how it goes you know very different mindset like you you were already considered married and dedicated to each other then the groom goes to prepare a place in his father's house which again should echo what yeshua says i go to prepare a place for you in my father's house and many rooms the during this time while the groom was away the bride would prepare her wedding garments and learn about her group what pleases him you know how by this stage she would have um most brides of this age would already know how to run the house having helped their mother but it's just interesting and what are we called to do to prepare our garments and learn about our groom then when the groom would return this is the nissuwine the marriage itself the groom would fetch his bride at night with shofar blasts and quite traditionally he would have two witnesses with him blowing the show fire saying the groom is coming which should make us think of revelation um and what was really interesting is that the bride because no one really knew when the wedding day would be oh the father of the groom would decide okay you're ready son go get her so she always had to kept her oil lamp trimmed because she never knew when it was going to be they just knew it would be at night so her oil lamp had to be trimmed and her bride her bridal garments had to be ready if not it would have been considered shameful the bride was lifted up which is so that the word nissuin comes from the word uh nassau which means to lift up now again what happens when the groom returns for his people they're literally lifted up they shall meet him in the air and then they would go back to the father's house there would be the consummation and then a seven day wedding feast okay so very quick recap of how things were done back then so let's apply these to the moadim now so in the elecine or the betrothal stage the passover is where the bridal price was paid yeshua gave his life paid the bride price unleavened bread is about setting ourselves apart for the group getting rid of the leaven and within passover and unleavened bread you have the illusion to the bread and the wine as well which would be part of the covenantal meal of betrothal first fruits i believe is when the groom would accept the bride officially when you look at the rules in regards to the to first fruits it says that it's for israel's acceptance so that they are accepted before elohim so i believe that first fruits is pointing to this and then shavuot i believe well the ketubah was signed when was the ketubah signed with the people of israel of on charlevoix mount sinai okay and the gifts given to the bride is the pledge of the groom's return when did that occur in acts chapter 2 the spirit poured out um and we'll see more of this as we go forward now all this was on our grooms first appearing now we know our groom is coming he comes twice he came once already and we await his return i believe this matches perfectly to the two stages to betrothal and to marriage so if in terms of the nissuin the feast of trumpets is when the groom gets his bride and the bride is lifted up we would know this as the resurrection the resurrection atonement i believe actually so in terms of on earth i believe it deals with the wrath of elohim but in the heavenlies i believe it's to do with the consummation the link being blood okay not to be graphic then you would have had sukkot the seven day wedding feast and we see this in revelation when they're waving the palm branches wearing white garments i.e wedding clothes and then you would have schmini at cerrets married life begins for the bride and groom if you're looking at it within the same year so just as the spring modem were fulfilled one after the other within one year so will the former redeem so after your seven day wedding fees life as a marriage uh couple begins and i believe this then points to the millennial reign to yeshua and his bride ruling and reigning so where are we prophetically speaking in this picture where are we yeah so in between shavuots and in between trumpets we're in this in between stage so we're in the betrothal right now our groom is preparing a place for his bride but we're expected to be preparing our wedding garments and learning about our groom what pleases him okay padding six months yeah yeah but think of it as two comings two comings so the you sure is first uh appearing on earth being the betrothal and then uh i mean you see this all in throughout the last supper that was essentially a betrothal meal which is really interesting so in terms of the prophetic timeline i would say we're in this bit in between shavuot and trumpets so when was when and where was the ketubah originally given yeah it's a giveaway in the picture mount sinai now interestingly uh when it came to the wedding and an actual hebrew wedding you'd have had three copies of the ketubah one for the father of the bride one for the married couple and one for the local judicial courts and that though one with the local judicial court would have been sealed um now what's really interesting there were seven seals or signatures on a ketubah but again go watch the series now in terms of the covenant of elohim where are the three copies or where were they so where was the first covenant written at first on the tablets of stone now there's a common hebrew belief and in fact you sure your will be done here on earth as it is in heaven so it was a there was this understanding that there was a copy up in heaven where's the third copy on our hearts or so it should be so we become the very witness itself of his covenant now what are the gifts from the groom given to the can people see why i'm choosing to do this at shaun of what now because i believe that shout out what what what are the gifts from the groom given to the bride spiritually one of them was the title of the subtitle of the series the ministerial gifts and so let's actually look at the gifts that our groom has give has been given by the way you know when yeshua says i have to go that the helper may come people have asked me in the past well why did he have to say that because again it's to fit with the hebrew wedding model if if he doesn't go he can't give us the gifts and if we don't get given the gifts so i mean the the marriage covenant cannot go on anyway so let's look very quickly at what these gifts are ephesians 4 7 but to each one of us favor was given according to the measure of the gift of messiah that is why it says when he went up on high he led captivity captive and gave gifts to men so had he not ascended he wouldn't have been able we wouldn't have been able to receive the gifts remember that the gifts were a token of his return a pledge which will tie into something that paul says and he himself gave some as emissaries or apostles and some as prophets some as evangelists some as shepherds and teachers for the perfecting of the set apart ones for the prep for the perfecting of our garments okay for our preparate garment preparation to the work of service to the building up of the body of the messiah until we all come to the unity of the belief and of the knowledge of the son of elohim this intimacy to a perfect man to the measure of the stature of the completeness of messiah so that we should no longer be children now i've said this before our groom is not going to marry a child bride okay tossed and born about by every wind of teaching by the trickery of men in cleverness unto the craftiness of leading astray so why were these gifts given [Music] for perfecting the body yes so i've put here to learn about our group now what happens again in this period of betrothal what's the bride doing preparing her garments learning about her groom and here we see that these things are so that we come to the of the knowledge of the son of elohim to know our group for our garment preparation that we matured that we be refined spotless okay and that we mature these are like the three main functions i believe to reject these ministerial gifts is to reject the group it's actually to spurn the gift in his face that would have not gone down well in the physical right if uh you know imagine they've they've signed the katuba and everything's great and the bride goes well actually darling i don't like these it wouldn't have gone down well it would have been really shameful so again this is our king giving us these things not for the hell of it like they're actually there for our benefit not only are they out of his kindness out of his generosity but it's about as paul says so that we actually grow up we mature we learn about him that we'd be ready for that day and then in 1st corinthians 12 we read of a load of other gifts and there are different kinds of gifts but the same spirit there are different kinds of services but the same master there are different kinds of workings but it is the same elohim who is working all in all and see each one is given the manifestation of the spirit for profiting for to one is given a word of wisdom through the spirit to another a word of knowledge according to the same spirit to another belief or faith by the same spirit people always miss that that faith can actually be a gift of the spirit to another gifts of healing by the same spirit and to another operations of powers so miracles to another prophecy to another discerning of spirits and to another kinds of tongues or languages into another interpretations of tongues but one in the same spirit work all these distributing to each one individually as he intends okay so it's the groom that chooses to whom he gives these two now it's really interesting that these are all linked to the spirit now what is it that's supposed to be right in the covenant on our hearts the spirit and we we see that in the ancient hebrew wedding model these gifts are given as a pledge of the groom's return now who remembers what paul says that we have been given a deposit or a pledge of the spirit until his return a down payment as it were a deposit this is all interlinked this is like so these ministerial gifts and these gifts of the rua are the bridal uh they're the pledge of his return okay this is why as well paul says that one day with these things will will be gone why because the marriage will have occurred anyway i believe that the gifts of the spirit occur alongside the ministerial gifts and work with them um so rather than doing a whole section on the ministerial gifts and then looking at the fruit of the spirit what we're going to do we're going to look at each ministerial gift and look at how the gifts of the spirit work within each one one thing you're going to see is that there's a lot of crossover between the ministerial gifts as we progress through this the very interlinked okay before we jump into today's where we're going to look specifically at teachers there's three main misconceptions in regards to the ministerial gifts and we have i mean this well but you know we've picked this up from christianity the first one is that you are either one or the other so you are just a prophet or just a teacher or just a shepherd i will suggest to you that is false and i will give you the reasons why okay misconception number two that one is somehow imbued with a gift and does not need to work at it or the other one is that now you've said the lord's prayer in the sinner's prayer puff god waves his big magic hand and you're a prophet all of a sudden it doesn't work that way right this idea that you know this thing is is given to you by fear and that these are for the unbeliever so look what's evangelism for because according to paul it's for the perfecting of the set apart ones the gifts of the spirit who were the gifts given to in the physical shadow picture to the bride not to some random woman so who are these gifts given for this is a huge misconception that we pick up from christianity so evangelism is not for the unbeliever it's actually for the believer so this makes you think well hang on a minute what's an evangelist actually do then we'll get to that later in the series so let's address the the first misconception that you're either one or the other and that you can't have other ones who's our example in the faith yeshua so let's see what you sure how he went about things in luke 4 verse 16 and he yeshua came to nazareth where he had been brought up and according to his practice he went into the congregation on the sabbath day and stood up to read now he wouldn't have just been reading as we will see he would have been teaching so right here we're seeing the teaching gift and the scroll of the prophet isaiah yeshua yahoo was handed to him so now he's going to be reading from the prophet and having unrolled the scroll he found the place where it was written the spirit of yahr is upon me because he has anointed me so there's the ruach okay anointed to bring the good news now what does it mean to bring good news what's the word for it evangelize we'll look at this later on in in the series but uh the greek words for evangelii it me it literally just means to proclaim good news and as we're going to see yeshua is going to apply this to himself okay so he's already teaching he's led by the ruach because he's anointed his look he's able to rightly interpret the prophet so there's some kind of prophetic gift there he's bringing the good news there's evangelism he sent me to heal the brokenhearted to proclaim release to the captives recovery of sight to the blind there's miracle workings to send away crushed ones with a release to proclaim the acceptable year of yah there's again the good news the the year of yah has come all tied into the jubilee and having rolled up the scroll he gave it back to the attendant and sat down and all the eyes of all the congregation were fixed upon him and he began to say to them today this scripture has been filled in your hearing this means he could rightly divide that that prophecy he understood it he had the correct interpretation and he's he's literally teaching them today this has been fulfilled and he's able to rightly discern the prophet so i believe there's a hint of a prophetic gift here all who were bearing witness to him marveled at the pleasant words that came out of his mouth and they said is this not the son of joseph and he said to them no doubt you shall say this proverb to me physician heal yourself whatever we have heard being done in kefana in capernaum do also hear in your country say you could say is this like an insight that is having is it a word of knowledge maybe i think personally i think he can read them he can see the leaven in them he understands human nature but he's saying know he's telling them what they're going to do and he said truly i say to you no prophet is accepted in his own country now he's ref he's applying this to himself implying that yeshua is essentially saying he's a prophet there because look what did he just say you will say this thing of me physician heal yourself right he's telling them what they're going to do that they're not going to accept him and then the next thing he says no prophet is it accepted in his own country and he's inferring himself here but truly i say to you many widows were in israel in the days of elijah when the heaven was shut up for three years and six months and there was a great scarcity of food in all the land and aliyahu was sent to none of them but it's of tsidon to a woman a widow and many lepers were in israel in the time of elisha the prophet and none of them was cleansed except naaman the aramian and all those in the congregation when they heard this were filled with wrath they knew what he was saying he's saying you're just like these other people and rising up they drove him out of the city and brought him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built in order to throw him down but he passing through the midst of them went away there's a miracle so we can see he's working in the power of the ruach and when he came down to kafanahum a city of gelu and was teaching them on the sabbath so again he's teaching the gift of teaching and they were astonished that his teaching for his word was with authority that's what separated him from all the other teachers we get this mentioned a couple of other times but just as a second witness in matthew 7 28 says when it came to be yeshua had ended these words that the people were astonished at his teaching for he was teaching them as one possessing authority not as the scribes so the scribes knew what they were talking about on an informational level but they lacked authority and i a lot of this has to do with maybe experience you know look there's been certain times when i can speak from a position of knowledge but not from a position of experience someone who has the experience will have authority in whatever area that is more so than me but there's another reason as well that where does the authority come from we also see this i am the good shepherd this was one of the ministerial gifts shepherds teachers right the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep i am the good shepherd and i know mine and mine know me there's a head we'll cover this when we look at shepherds but you have to know your shepherd you don't just randomly ask for help from someone you don't know and then in matthew 10 24 he answering said i was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of israel what do you call someone who has been sent out an emissary an apostle in the hebrew it comes from the root word shalakh to send a slicha would be an apostle messiah perfectly demonstrated all the ministerial gifts you just have to know where to look and what you're looking at so he was sent he's an apostle he's like he could rightly discern the words of the prophet implying he's a prophet himself he was teaching so he's a teacher he's a shepherd do you see all these things he demonstrated all of the gifts so don't tell me you're either one or the other because as paul says if we're to grow into the fullness of messiah that implies that you should start up you you'll naturally say naturally but through the ruach these things will be cultivated in you if we are to grow into the fullness of the messiah these gifts will start to be cultivated in us okay let's look at timothy 2 timothy 4 paul says this to timothy in the sight of elohim and the master yeshua messiah who shall judge the living in the dead at his appearing and his reign i earnestly charge you proclaim the word what's to proclaim good the word the good news to evangelize be urgent in season out of season convict or bring to repentance whose job is that to convict and bring to repentance the prophets that was their number one message repent warn what did a prophet do warn appeal with all patience and teaching we've already got three gifts left of ministry profit evangelism teaching for there shall be a time when they shall not bear sound teaching but according to their own desires they shall heap up for themselves teachers tickling the ear and they shall indeed turn their ears away from hearing the truth and be turned aside to myths but you be sober in all matters suffer hardships do the work of an evangelist if that wasn't clear enough accomplish your service completely timothy is being asked to demonstrate all the ministerial gifts and i've put here like father like son where did timothy learn this from paul become imitators of me as i also am of messiah look at what paul was doing just read acts and read his letters you can see every ministerial gift in there why because he'd grown into the fullness of messiah and i believe timothy was there too and paul called timothy his son okay he was his disciple so can we agree you can be more than one okay don't let anyone say to you you can only be this will only be that no we're called to grow into the fullness of messiah and if paul can do it if timothy can do it so can you let's look at this idea are the gifts given to you by fear or do you have to nurture them once you've been given once you realize you have one command and teach these matters so teaching role let no one look down on your youth but be an example to the believers in word in behavior in love in spirit in belief in cleanliness which are all fruit of the spirit until i come give attention to the reading of scripture to encouragement of teaching so he's been told to study but he's already a teacher do you see the folly do not neglect the gift that is in you which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the elderhood how can something be given to you by prophecy if you have the christianized version of what a prophet prophecy is but paul's saying don't neglect it i.e cultivate it practice these matters you're telling me practice be in them so that your progress might be plain to all there's progress involved in this pay attention to yourself and to the teaching continue in them for in doing this you shall save both yourself and those who hear you look i'm gonna use myself as an example go listen to my first teaching that i put out and then listen to one now it's a night and day difference okay why because i had to cultivate this i had to practice it and you guys were the guinea pigs i had you know i had to work with you guys for those of you who have come more recently well done you saved yourself a lot but the point i'm trying to make is that like i didn't i never saw myself as a teacher first coming into this the father like i knew i'd end up there but i was like how but i ended up doing it and i was very rough around the edges when i began i'm a bet i'm like i'm better now but again why because it was cultivated practice hard work praying fasting like just the journey itself so don't tell me that all of a sudden you're a prophet look why were there schools of prophets you read of them in in the tanakh a school of the prophets you mean you had to learn to be one or maybe you were called to being one but there was some kind of schooling some tutelage some discipleship because there were schools of prophets running around i thought you just god waves his big magic hand poof you're a prophet no scripture does not show that again as one grows and matures spiritually they will begin to display an ever-growing amount of these attributes again i'll use myself as an example i maybe lacked a shepherd in quality or two the shepherds tend to care more like to work with people my love for his body has grown as i've grown in the faith you know i for someone that used to hate people and the public i i mean that loosely but you hear what i'm trying to say again that's because of the work he's doing in me and i can't take credit for that only he can change the heart of a man all of the ministerial gifts and the gifts of this spirit are interlinked um we're going to start with teachers today but it's amazing the correlation between uh the teaching office and the profit office there's a lot of similarities but there are some minor differences there's a there's also we'll see that they're all interlinked so the fact that you're only one or the other again doesn't make sense so this is introduction uh is everyone okay with that yeah cool let's actually look at what makes a teacher and again let's look at our messiah john 3 so this is the nicodemus incident and there was a man of the pharisees nicodemus was his name a ruler of the yehudim this one came to you sure by night and said to him rabbi so we know yeshua's a teacher there he's recognized by other pharisees as a teacher we know that you are a teacher from elohim for no one is able to do these signs you do if elohim is not with him so you sure had some miracle working power should we say that he had signs to accompany him what he was saying yeshua answered to him truly truly i say to you unless one is born from above he is unable to see the reign of elohim and then do not marvel that i say what that i said to you you have to be born from above now answered to him and said to him how is this possible for this to take place and yeshua says this are you a teacher of israel and you do not know this now i've done it i've done the teaching on it's called let's talk nicodemus which covers what yeshua was teaching and explaining but you sure he he's not mocking nicodemus but he's saying you know i'm paraphrasing dude you're meant to be a teacher and you don't get what i'm saying so teachers need to have an understanding of the word they need to be able to rightly divide it you know paul says this to timothy you know be a good worker rightly dividing the word of truth you have a lot of teachers out there that like this and as when we look at the prophecy gift we'll see how um rightly dividing the words is the kind of link to this as well this implies the gift of discernment which we know is one of the gifts of the spirit can you rightly discern what you're reading when you look at um we'll look at this but the word in the greek to discern means to be able to make a decision to separate can you separate truth can you separate your flesh from what you think the spirit is telling you that's the big one it also implies being led by his ruler how many of us have read the you know a passage plenty of times over the years and then one day boom it's opened up i believe this is the ruach in luke 4 14 yeshua returned so he's just come out of the wilderness he's been tempted you should return in the power of the spirit to galil and the news of him went through all the surrounding country and he was teaching so he didn't start teaching until his trial his tribulation as it were until he was refined and empowered by the spirit then he was teaching in their congregations being praised by all and then you drop down further the chapter he came to kefar nahum the city of galileo and was teaching them on the sabbath and they were astonished that his teaching for his word was with authority where's the authority coming from verse 14 he returned in the power of the spirit so elohim yes that's the difference okay this is why has anyone experienced where you listen to a teaching and it's great information and it's great and it's you know but it's just that and then you listen to another teaching and it cuts you to the heart i believe that the work is there either the ruach is speaking through that person or that person has something behind them we see that authority comes from being empowered by the spirit it's right there and again yeshua was demonstrate like look he demonstrated all the fruit of the spirit he demonstrated i believe all the gifts of the spirit maybe not the speaking tones we don't know but he definitely showed all the ministerial gifts john 12 47 let's take a a different angle if anyone hears my words or my teachings but does not watch over them i do not judge him for i did not come to judge the world but to save the world he who rejects me and does not receive my words has one who judges him the word that i have spoken shall judge him in the last day now what does that mean okay what does that mean he's not going to judge them but the word he's teaching his teachings themselves will judge them because i spoke not from myself but the father who sent me has given me a command what i should say and what i should speak this is why if you reject his words it's not him you're rejecting it's the one that gave them okay the spirit that's you can maybe infer verse 49 words of knowledge look when yeshua came he was a man he didn't cheat how did he have such clear understanding of scripture he clearly walked in the power of the spirit do you think that maybe he had words of knowledge i believe so because he didn't cheat he showed us how to walk this life if he cheated it makes it all pointless it makes his his judgment not righteous so he he he's listening and this is the key of a teacher the teacher should not be speaking their own words they should be speaking his words and now we're seeing maybe one of the functions of a teacher is almost a mouthpiece okay so you know we have the imagery of the body the teachers are a mouth john 8 26 i have much to say and to judge concerning you but he who sent me is true and what i heard from him these words i speak to the world john 14 10 do you not believe that i am in the father and the father is in me the words that i speak to you i do not speak from myself but the father who stays in me does his works this is why your show says if you don't listen to my words my words will judge you because they're the father's words john 17 verse 7 and 8 now when they have come to know that this is yeshua praying to the father right before his crucifixion okay at the last supper now they have come to know that all you gave me is from you because the words which you gave me i have given to them and they have received them and have truly known that i came forth from you and they believed that you sent me so again yeshua he was teaching these words the parables right we're in which are the secrets from of the kingdom from the foundation of the earth he was teaching them these things opening their eyes and this is why you sure can say this that if you do not love him or guard his word the word which you hear is not his but of the father who sent me he who rejects me and does not receive my word as one who judges him the words that i have spoken shall judge him in the last day because he he's those people will be rejecting elohim and what's really interesting in john 6 he says that it's the spirit that gives life the flesh does not profit at all the words that i speak to you are spirit in our life so what are we looking at the gifts of the spirit the ministerial gifts which are grown through the spirit the spirit writes the covenant on our heart you know the spirit is a pledge of our groom's return he's gone for now but i will return here's a pledge which is the ruler and part of that is the spiritual words the teachings so to reject messiah's teachings messiah's word is to reject the rua actually and it's to reject the very gift that he's given to his betrothed think of it this way and this is why it's crucial that it's your responsibility to know am i hearing truth vet the teacher do you know them can you see fruit in their life and this is why there are bad consequences for those who reject teaching that has the authority of the spirit behind it i mean the pharisees look at what happened on that note in first john 4 6 the apostle john says we are of elohim the one knowing elohim hears us he who is not of elohim does not hear us i.e they reject the words by this we know the spirit of the truth and the spirit of delusion now what's really interesting here is notice the hint of spiritual discernment another gift of the spirit because to hear elohim to hear his words that's what helps us discern between truth and delusion which means you need a correct understanding of his word so you might need a teacher but i will get this later on in the series but maybe a teacher needs someone else okay to help him in his venture and it's because of this is not a new principle we get this principle right from torah right from the beginning who were the teachers during the times of ancient israel the levites and the priests and of levi he said so this is moshe blessing the 12 tribes and he says this of levi they teach your right rulings to yarkov and your torah to israel they put incense before you in complete ascending offering on your slaughter play so they minister within the house which we are as living stones okay so here we're seeing that the teachers within the ancient kingdom were the priests deuteronomy 24 verse 8 take heed in an outbreak of leprosy to diligently guard and do according to all that the priests the levites teach you as i have commanded them so you shall god to do so here we see the thing that if it wasn't the levites they would have been obeying or disobeying it would have been the one ordering the levite and the priests remember what what yahweh elohim did to miriam on the on the way when you came out of mitzvah so he's just reminding them you know what did she do she came against the mouthpiece of elohim moshe which means it wasn't mo shay she was coming against deuteronomy 17 verse 8 when any matter arises which is too hard for you to judge between blood and blood between plea and plea or between stroke and stroke matters of strife within your gates then you shall rise up and go to the place which you are your elohim chooses and shall come to the priests the levites and to the judge who is in those days and shall inquire and they shall declare to you the word of right ruling so do you think that they need to have an understanding of what right ruling is so they need to have been taught they need to know how to apply that knowledge what's that wisdom knowledge on its own is nothing you need to know how to apply it it takes wisdom to do that can you see maybe a gift of the spirit here there word of knowledge word of wisdom how does elohim tend to work does he open the heavens and show his face all the time no he works through proxies through people and you shall do according to the word which they declared to you from that place which yah chooses and you shall guard to do according to all that they instruct you do according to the torah in which they teach you according to the right ruling which they say to you you do not turn to the right or to the left from the word which they declare to you and the man who acts arrogantly says to not listen to the priest who stands to serve there before ya your elohim or to the judge that man shall die so you shall purge the evil from israel and let all the people here in fear and no longer do arrogantly hmm strong words now where do where do you think that paul and timothy get these ideas of if they um if they're unruly if they're if they break rank the greek says if they'd reject authority what do you do with them out you go this is the principle where it's coming from so it's nothing new you know obviously we can't stone people to death no but um it's amazing i've had i i'll give you a testimony i've had people come to me asking for advice or counsel you know and i'll ask them why why are you coming to me especially when i don't know them and they'll you know it'll be something along the lines of oh you know i like your teachings your preaching truth and then it's funny how when i give maybe a council that that person doesn't like all of a sudden i'm not of her heap and it's like well which was it like am i not of elohim now or you know were you deluded thinking i was of elohim before and now you've now you see clearly all these things but it's amazing there's been a couple of instances now and some of you will have witnessed this that i've given warnings to people over the years and they've not heeded those warnings and what happened the fruit played out now i'm not saying that this is because i'm special is because i believe i was giving them biblical counsel thus it wasn't me or the council that we're rejecting it was him and so a lot of these councils are these are discussed with those i'm in discipleship with to make sure that i'm accountable that my flesh is not getting them but you see what i'm trying to get at and i believe this is where you'll start to see who truly has authority and who doesn't these situations for the judges would have required understanding of truth discernment and wisdom because you would look you would have had two people you don't know he's saying this but he's saying that a dispute how do you get to the matter of truth look solomon with the two women and the baby there's a really good example of wisdom being like he's got knowledge but how do you apply it james three so here's the warning that we all have all heard of not many of you should become teachers my brothers knowing that we shall receive greater judgment for we all stumble in many matters and then he goes on to speak about the tongue okay and we actually saw this come to pass with moshe he he's known as the teacher of israel among the jewish communities like look he he yah gave him a huge word of knowledge right it's called the torah and he says now teach these to first he had to teach him to the priest to aaron and then the priest taught them to the people but what happened when moshe struck the rock instead of speaking to it he stumbled in a matter he was judged more harshly so with the position of teach it comes responsibility accountability and consequence why because teachers are essentially a mouthpiece for the king which is a similar place to that of a prophet both speak the words of elohim so here's one of the similarities between a prophet and a teacher they both act as a mouthpiece okay however i believe a distinguishing feature between prophet and teacher is that a teacher may so this is a broad brushstroke i'm painting very broad a teacher may not have as much of direct access to elohim so you know how a lot of the prophets like the word of yah came to them and said you know very clearly um how can i put it look a teach as a teacher you can know something is true because of the witness of it in your life right and then you put a teaching together you don't need yah to give you a word sometimes and you put a teaching together and it's truth you may get a word of knowledge along the way but a prophet tends to ha does that make sense a profit is more likely to have a for what they do this will make more sense when we look at the profit but a teacher i believe a teacher does have to have the relationship but you don't necessarily have to have a direct word to put a teaching together is the point i'm making again very broad brush stroke i actually believe if you're to think of yah gives his word i believe he gives it to a prophet first then that word needs to be understood once it's understood and rightly divided now you can teach it does that make sense if you're going to follow it that once it's been taught and that person has been raised then you can spread that evangelism discipleship right i believe a teacher without spiritual discernment will end up being a blind guide so again remember that one of the gifts of the spirit is the gift of the discerning of spirits i believe a prophet has this as well the gift of discernment to know whether something is truth or not first corinthians 12 10 to another discerning of spirit so we know that this is one of the gifts of the spirit the gift of discernment okay the greek for this is dioclesis which means to distinguish to discern to judge notice this thing of being able to tell one apart from the other which is almost very similar to sanctify the link between teaching and discernment is evident throughout scripture i'm going to give you two examples okay first example is hebrews 5 but from verse 9 having been perfected he yeshua became the cause of look notice perfected right in the fullness right he became the cause of everlasting deliverance to all those obeying him having been designated by elohim a high priest according to the order of maoki zedek concerning whom we have much to say and hard to explain okay so they've got lots of things that are hard to explain and i believe this is a distinguishing feature maybe between a prophet and a teacher a teacher can put things in a way that are plain to understand there were certain prophets they were given a word and they didn't understand the word they'd been given but they knew it was from yah can you see that that distinguishment but yeah they've got much to say in regards to you know the order of melchizedek these things are hard to explain since you have become dull of hearing for indeed although by this time you ought to be teachers you need someone to teach you again the first elements of the words of elohim and you have become such as need milk and not solid food for everyone partaking of the milk is inexperienced in the word of righteousness for he is a babe what's the milk of the word torah that annoys a lot of messianics it's the milk but solid food is for the mature whose senses have been trained by practice to discern both good and evil notice that solid food good teaching is supposed to bring you to discernment between good and evil solid teaching is designed to actually grow our discernment look how do you guys know that when you're watching something on youtube if you do that that oh well this is a load of rubbish how do you know that did you just figure it out one day no you've been in an environment of learning and growth so this is your brit harusha example let's look at one and that's of the link between teaching and discernment proverbs one the proverbs of the king the son of david sovereign of israel for knowing wisdom and discipline for understanding the words of understanding for receiving the discipline of wisdom righteousness right ruling straightness for giving insight to the simple knowledge and discretion to the young the wise one here's an increases in learning and the understanding one gives wise counsel again like i'm going through wisdom again with river shabbat and this is all discipleship based for understanding a proverb and a figure or a parable you know when you understand the parables and of the secrets of the kingdom the words of the wise and their riddles now what's really interesting is this word understanding okay the hebrew concept of understanding is actually based on discernment it's not based on knowledge for knowledge's sake it's based on being able to discern truth the word for understanding is being or be to to understand and then understanding is bina okay notice here to discern to perceive to discern to distinguish to be discerning and look at when you drop down to here one e so when you see things like cal nephal he feel hits bullet these are different verb verbal conjugations okay so to to discern would be one form or to cause someone to discern that's another form to be anyway hebrew grammar but notice here that in the pale form it means to teach to instruct which is interesting so very even within the hebrew word itself bean and binar to be able to discern is not just for you it's so that you can then go and pass it on to others to teach notice the link between discernment teaching and wisdom they're all kind of interlinked biblical teaching grows our knowledge of scripture okay and as we've seen growing in knowledge leads to an increase in discernment so that we can discern right from wrong truth from delusion wisdom however deals with one how uses and implements that knowledge this is why look i know some brothers in the faith they've been in the faith a couple of years which is not long in the grand scheme of things but they're very knowledgeable and it seems to be that as the times progress people have been able to understand a lot more in a shorter space of time but what is it they lack wisdom what so what where do they go get that from someone that has the experience or has wisdom you know so this is what i sometimes have to you see someone they're very knowledgeable and they want to start speaking into people's lives and it's like hold up sonny jim you might want to make sure you're doing this in wisdom this is essentially again going back to the torah principles of going to the priests the priest had the knowledge the discernment and they knew how to apply it now a teacher i'm not telling you how to apply things in your life generally speaking i'm giving you knowledge when is it that i'm telling you to apply that knowledge when you come for counsel that's different and then you have to kind of step into a different role of maybe more shepherding anyway i believe that wisdom comes through experience and discipleship again i can only speak of myself in this that i've been saved by my brother's wisdom from making silly mistakes and again go watch the wisdom series that we're working through again you know showing that the wisdom and discipleship are completely interlinked you can't have one without the other so let's briefly look at teachers and the word of knowledge so the ministerial gift and the gift of the spirit i'm not gonna sit here and show you loads of examples of words of knowledge in scripture you can do that by yourself a really good one is when paul he's he visits the prophets um he's visiting a congregation and they say to him through the spirit that if you go to jerusalem you're going to end up in prison and you're going to end up going to your death how did they know it says through the spirit they were given a word of knowledge okay now i believe that the idea of the um i mean a word of knowledge in terms of what it does what it's for you know when it says your word is a lamp unto my feet it's there to kind of help you guide you sometimes it's there to confirm something uh so you might be given a word of knowledge and then you see it come to pass you know when peter was told um that you're going to be sent for by the the pagan the foreigner and then it happened he was given a word of knowledge so it can be to guide you to help you make a decision to confirm something but it's knowledge it's not application if that makes does that make sense i believe that the word of knowledge is closely linked to the office of being a teacher because look what am i in teaching trying to grow in you knowledge okay who here has had the aha moment again i mentioned this earlier you're reading scripture and all of us you've read it a hundred times and you think you understand it and then whack then you understand it how did that happen i believe that's a word of knowledge which should be encouraging to you because you've probably had more words of knowledge than you realize look i'm not trying to get all hyper charismatic on you you know my stance on charismania but at the same time let's not quench the spirit right the amount of times this has happened to me like look you know the bitter and sweet teaching that came through that curtis and i are just talking about something and then spirit puts something in curtis and then i bounce off that and it was this kind of tennis match of uh-huh it wasn't us it was the spirit like you just suddenly see it you now have a deeper knowledge of that thing does that make sense so you've probably had a lot more words of knowledge than you realize take that as an encouragement accept the gifts being given to you from your group as you grow okay let me give you a bit of personal experience within the link between teaching them a word of knowledge about two years into being a teacher here i got to a place where i came to the end of my knowledge i had like that's it everything that i knew i'd given and that put me in the flesh in a precarious position in the spirit it was to get me to rely on him and it forced me to have to listen to the spirit to that still small voice because i'd given everything i knew and in those little moments where i'm having to be forced to listen i you know you get given a nugget i usually get given a trail and then i have to go do my due diligence and in doing that i gain more knowledge through study as paul says to scripture right study scripture but my wife will bear witness to this every week almost every week for the first half of the week i say i don't know what i'm teaching on and then all of a sudden i know what to teach on today's teaching is shabbat today it came on thursday thursday afternoon going on into the evening ask my wife i was actually going to do something completely different because i i'm now in a position where like i've learned father they're not my people they're yours i'm just a mouthpiece i'm just a vessel you tell me what you want me to say and i can't explain it something just pops out and you you know when you just know it's him so for a while i was like do i go down this road and this road and you know when it gets near crunch time i call it you know i start maybe panicking a little and i go farther if you're not gonna say anything this is the direction i'm going and every single time he's gone nope you're going this way usually a day or two later but the point i'm saying is for the past two years i have to i experienced this you will say this that's i believe a word of knowledge and this should be comforting for you because you know i'm not speaking of myself as yeshua said you know the words i'm speaking and not mine but him who sent me and this is why i believe that the teaching ministerial thing and the word of knowledge are very closely related now with that will come discernment you know when someone sends me a teaching and says what do you think to this i have to discern it so that's a little bit on the teaching gift i hope it helps you understand maybe how to spot a good one or a bad one or even maybe a false one i mean i don't have to go through the obvious things you know do they point to his word to both sides of the word right the the the tanaka and the brit do they have the blood of messiah do they have the mo you know these types of things i don't have to relay that foundation but hopefully understanding that you know a teacher that has authority versus one that doesn't how the gifts of the spirit help that position as it were so we've seen today that with a teacher you'll need discernment you'll need the word of knowledge anyway next week we'll look at profit okay profit uh again there's a lot of similarities but there's also some key differences but again like we'll start seeing these things they all cross over they all depend one another and if you get anything from today is that you can grow into all of these gifts you can you know even like even the women as teachers they have a place of teaching for the other ladies and for the children in their own home but yes i hope that's been a blessing okay and on the eve of shavuot you know when we're remembering the covenant being given his spirit being given let's not quench the spirit okay and i hope that this series will help people understand with maybe what they've experienced in their life and what's to come because in the times that are coming ahead of us we're going to need to listen to that ruach we're going to need to be attentive and just read revelation there's some pretty incredible things that are going to happen like in terms of miracles okay so let's stop here let's do some q a and have a break come in you
